Where to Eat and Drink in Cully - Eater Portland

"Beeswing is a popular and much lauded brunch spot, thanks to its newspaper lined walls, distinctive lattes and winning brunch dishes. The fried chicken at Beeswing is so beloved that it often sells out, so fried chicken fans should get there early. The Korean take on eggs Benedict, with glistening pork belly on a crispy scallion pancake, is another brunch hit, as well as the fantastically floral honey-lavender scone. There is nothing else like it in the city." - Kara Stokes

Yelp
Wow, this place is packed for lunch on a Thursday, and rightfully so. Counter-service in a causal setting. All orders are served in to-go containers, which you will need because the portions are enormous. Pork Katsu is juicy and curry is sweet and savory. Garlic shrimp is buttery and a must eat with the shell on. Mac salad is just okay, but good and the rice is great. Each grain separate and not over cooked. Service can be a bit Hawaiian-time, ha, as it's counter and they are doing a big volume but folks are friendly and happy to check on your order. I would recommend calling in, even if you plan to sit. Need to try their nachos with wonton chips, as it looked massive and full of toppings. Definitely a stand out spot, that does each item fresh, with a little something extra.

Yelp
Coming from California, there are a few Hawaiian chain restaurants I am comparing this restaurant to. After trying their food at a local event (Guamanian/Chamorro festival), I decided to give their restaurant a try. My overall impression: -The food was as expected, and they do give a good healthy amount of food, which is great. But my order came out a bit messy. -The atmosphere was not as expected. The restaurant was smokey inside and seems the ventilation was not great on the day of my visit. -The music was loud, and not all islander music (as I'm used to listening to and enjoying at Hawaiian restaurants in California). -There was no Hawaiian Sun drinks which is what I expect from any Hawaiian restaurant. -The service and staff were nice. -The bathrooms ran out of paper towel on the day of my visit. Let me add, the ambiance I experienced may have been a one-off. I still think it's worth it for anyone else to try.

Yelp
I feel like this place already has a lot of hype for the portions alone. My first visit was back at the Alberta location. I'm pretty sure the owner (pregnant at the time) was working the cashier. I asked her to make a recommendation and she asked what I was into and I said anything. She recommended one of the specials at the time. The fried Halibut Collar. I think about that plate pretty often. Ever since then it's been a regular post-hike meal for me. The Ono chicken and Honey walnut shrimp are big crowd pleasers but I've never had something there I didn't like. Give them your money!

Yelp
Prior to my Portland Trip, I was just at Big Island, Hawaii. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this place. Made me miss the Big Island. My cousin and I ordered the Poke Nachos ($26). It did not disappoint! They packed our nachos and we were both so full. The ahi melted in your mouth and everything just paired so well with one another. We also ordered two sides of Mac salad. The Mac salad was delicious and just the way I like it. I wish I got to try the other dishes they offered since they all looked amazing. I'll have to stop by this place when I'm back in Portland.

Yelp
Omg so good!!! The menu has so many good things I can't wait to go back. I got the katsu curry plate. I dont even like macaroni salad but it was good and not over sauced. Portions are huge and was able to have for dinner and lunch. The staff was nice and helpful the moment we walked in letting us know where to grab a menu at. It just a fun place and you don't even notice the rain outside. It really felt like we were transported to a small mom and pop shop in Hawaii. Only con since it's so beloved they sell out on certain populat items.

Yelp
This is my favorite hawaiian spot in Portland and every person I've taken here has agreed. They recently moved locations, the original one off Hawthorne was pretty small but the new spot is very nice and much larger. The portions are huge, I recommend sharing and the price is very reasonable considering the amount and quality of the food. They always have new special items but everything I've tried from here has been amazing. Definitely a must try spot if visiting Portland.

Yelp
Hooo broke da mouth! Feels like i'm back on the islands with a majah local vibe. Love this place for plate lunch with large portions. However I will say the cooking can be inconsistent. Usually everything is deep fried really well and not too oily or over done. However one time we visited, I'm not sure if the oil was old or the fried was too hot but everything we ordered that was deep fried had a burnt taste to it. Staff was awesome and offered to remake the meal which was much appreciated

Yelp
Hawaiian food in Portland Oregon? Yep and it's ! The line was long but moved fast on a rainy day. The service was fantastic and quickly moving folks along. Tons of folks back in the kitchen but a bit smoky inside the restaurant as they were quickly frying the items on the menu. This place definitely does not skimp on the portion sizes fill you up with the delicious options! Bring a friend and order everything because it's definitely worth a try!

Yelp
Heaping portion of Ahi! Tasted really fresh and an awesome portion for the price! Definitely want to try some other menu items! Unfortunately the spam musubi rice was too soggy for me so a bit of a miss. Will definitely be back to try more, I know how popular this place is.

Yelp
This is a neighborhood spot that I keep saying I am going to check out but then realize they are closed by the time I want to eat dinner. Last time I tried to stop in at lunch there was a long line, so I left as I had to get back to work. But today, I smartened up and ordered online for pick up ahead of time. I placed my order around 11ish and it said it would be ready at 12:30 and I believe they open at 12. The dishes seem spendy for lunch, but I think every Hawaiian place in Portland is so expect to pay about $18-$26 for an entree. They do smaller orders like the Spicy bombs that are $12. But similar to many of the Hawaiian spots, they give you so much food that it easily feeds 2 people or you can eat lunch and save the rest for dinner like I did. But what sets this place apart is the poke, garlic shrimp, walnut shrimp and korean chicken, which I don't think the other places have. I got the Combo which starts at $22 but they upcharge for certain items. So I added the Poke which had a $2 extra charge and the walnut shrimp. It was sooooooo tasty. I loved the poke which came in a separate container to not mix the hot and cold items, but I dumped it into the box for the photo. The walnut shimp had 8 LARGE prawns (see photos) and was fried to perfection with the sweet coating and walnuts. They add sticky rice under the main entrees and then an extra scoop of sticky rice and a scoop of macaroni salad. I personally did not like their version of macaroni salad as it had too much mayo for me, but not sure if it's always like that. I came back with my family the following day to dine in. I had the garlic shrimp, hubs had combo of ono chicken/beef teriyaki and daughter had the Jun plate. I had the garlic shrimp ($18) that was so delicious and garlicky anf had about 15 HUGE prawns. That is a bargain. They have indoor and the outdoor seating which is cool because inside the air was a smokey and it was a nice day, but unfortunately, outside the picnic tables were kinda filthy. I tried to wipe the table down as beat I could. They also were out of silverware but did have plastic to go utensils. Overall, I think the food is good and the spot is nice but they still need to work out some of their kinks which is probably why they seem to cater to their to go orders.

Yelp
Mad the pine bowl and it was really good. The counter lady was really friendly and the inside area was fairly quiet. I'd come back.

Yelp
Came for a quick bite before heading to the airport. The guy working the register was SO nice. I explained it was my first time and I didn't need a big meal and he recommended the poke, which was on par with what I've had in Hawaii. I wanted to try musubi but they didn't have any that day.

Yelp
At first, I thought I was at the wrong location based on the previous photos in Yelp, but I realized they had moved. It was a hot day and I was hoping that the indoor dining was air conditioned, but that was not the case. They did have the fans running, but not enough to keep us cool in this heat. However, we heard so many great things about them and we came hungry so we were looking forward to getting our grub on. And they did not disappoint with the generous portions which we ended up with leftovers for later. 5/5 - Ono Chicken - A must try! The star out of all the things we ordered. Bomb! 4.5/5 - Spicy Ahi Poke - Sauce was a tad bit too much, but still delicious. 5/5 - Walnut Shrimp - Huge prawns and cooked perfectly. 3/5 - Shrimp Katsu - Overcooked and dry, but with the sauce, it had flavor. 3.5/5 - Kalua Pork - Lacked the smoky flavor and was under seasoned, but very tender. 3/5 - Mac Salad - A little bland but balanced out with the flavors of the other dishes. It really brought us back to the islands and we are so happy to have good Hawaiian food in Portland. I wish they were closer to us in the west side of the Portland Metro in either Beaverton or Hillsboro, but it was definitely worth the trip.

Yelp
Great service! Took a little while to get the food but I'm assuming it's because it made to order. The short ribs were phenomenal, the Mac salad and rice were good as well. The sitting area outside was cute little wooden picnic style tables. Definitely get a bang for your buck with the amount of food they serve. I can't wait to come back to visit and eat here!

Yelp
If you're a fan of Hawaiian and Filipino food and a welcoming atmosphere, Grind Wit Tryz is a must-visit. Their Spicy Bomb, a spicy ahi poke, is nothing short of explosive in the best way possible--fresh, and with just the right kick. The Ahi Katsu was also a standout, perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside. The Spam, egg, and katsu combo was a nostalgic delight, blending comfort food with huge portions. It also had Mac salad and rice that comes with it. The dishes are overall HUGE! The ambience was spacious and clean, featuring comfortable booth seats that make it a great spot for both casual meals and special gatherings. The staff were helpful and friendly, the cashier recommended up some of these dishes. Highly recommend Grind Wit Tryz for anyone craving delicious, well-prepared food in a great setting.

Yelp
First time visiting their new location since they moved, and I have to say--it's not what it used to be. The flavors I loved seem to have changed, and not for the better. Ambiance: 3.8/5 The restaurant is big, spacious, and casual--perfect for a homey meal. Service: 4/5 The service was good; food came out quickly, but nothing stood out as exceptional. Food: 2/5 I ordered the spicy ahi poke with rice and mac, and it was unbearably salty. Neither my boyfriend nor I could finish it. There weren't enough sides to balance the overwhelming saltiness. This was a huge disappointment because I used to love their poke and nachos. While portions are still generous, the taste just isn't the same anymore.

Yelp
this was my first time eating at their new location, but since it's close to their old location, i thought the maps led us to the back of the old building so i was confused haha. this place is a lot more spacious and i love that they had plenty of booth seating. they have an open kitchen so be aware to smell like grease afterwards. the line can get long depending on what time you go so beware. we watched the line get packed immediately after we ordered so we were lucky. you order at the counter and wait for them to call your name. my friend and i shared the ono chicken and ahi poke combo. the portions are big, we ended up having a small amount of leftover. tbh, this was not as good as i remember. i'm not sure if the recipe has changed since i last came, but the chicken was not as crispy as i wanted. also felt that it sort of lacked flavor. when i went to their old location, i remember the food being too salty but this time it was a little under seasoned for me. the poke was very good though and i would recommend it. overall, i felt disappointed by my meal and would not come back :(
google avatar

Rebecca B.

Yelp
The food here is amazing! The people I was with all tried each others plates. I don't think there is anything we disliked! The outdoor seating area is great when it's dry out. Be prepared to wait a while for your food, they are on Hawaiian time. But it is so worth the wait.

Yelp
Felt like an eternity.. don't come here on Saturday.. I ordered a trio combo of Short Ribs, Kalua Pork, Ono Fried Chicken that came with 2 scoops of rice, a scoop of mac & cheese. As well as Deep Fried Musubi! It was a madhouse.. super busy.. waited 30 minutes in line and then another over 30 minutes to get food (Trio Combo) and then another 15 minutes to get (musubi) If you're hungry, you'll probably forget after a while, haha But the food was good.. Chicken is the best, although boneless, it was sweet, garlicky, crunchy, and tasty! Kalua Pork was sweet and smoky; some parts were tender, and some parts were a bit tough.. ribs were tender, fatty, and sweet like the ones you have in Hawaii (compared to Korean, which I feel is more savory with sweet, maybe because of scallions?) Portions are huge. You order first and get a number, and they'll bring it to you.. I felt like I just ate a buffet Does feel like you're in Hawaii and definitely is a place where it's noisy with a lot of 20 year Olds and some older folks of 40s and above

Yelp
Our favorite Portland restaurant! Food is SO good and portions are super generous. This place is often busy and the hype is worth it!! Ono chicken & kalbi are my favorites. But the poke and honey walnut shrimp are really great too.
google avatar

Smaly K.

Yelp
My bf and I came here for lunch (it's been on my list for so long), and there were just too many things I wanted to try. I finally decided on the Trio Plate with Garlic Shrimp, Shrimp Katsu, and Krack Chicken. My bf got the Combo Plate with Garlic Shrimp and Ono Chicken. They were nice, big plates of food, and oh, so yummy. Everything on my dish was delicious. All so full of flavor. I had leftovers, and gladly ate it later in the hotel room. Having been wanting to come back since.

Yelp
If you have not been here, you must come! You will not regret it. This is the best Hawaiian food in the Portland and surrounding area in my opinion. Food here is always delicious and hits the spot. Prices are reasonable for the amount you get. I highly recommend getting the ono chicken, meat Jun, and poke nachos! They use fried wonton crisps as their nachos instead of corn chips which I think is a game changer-- the perfect vehicle for delicious poke! We've tried the kalbi on different occasions and wouldn't get it again because while flavor is great, it can be a little hard to chew. They have a good amount of seating inside and outside. It was quite busy on a Saturday, but trust me it is *worth* the wait.

Yelp
We love Hawaiian food. Grind Wit Tryz is da kine! Serving sizes were big and the food was good. We're big Lau Lau fans. At Grind Wit Tryz, they were really big and meaty. We like when places trim out the fat, rather than stuffing all the fat into it. Here, they were lean, but still juicy. They also had a twist on Lau Lau by offering a brisket version. We tried their regular and their brisket and found both to be good. These were both on their specials board, not on the printed menu so they could have been easy to miss. Glad we asked about Lau Lau. We also got the Ahi Katsu. Not many places serve this. It was really tasty. It was one of our favorite items that we tried. We also tried their poke, which we liked, and the garlic shrimp, also good. Authentic Hawaiian food can be hard to find. We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
OMG!!!!! I can't believe that we waited this long to try Grind Wit Tryz. Its been on my list forever but when my MIL sent me the Hawaiii News article (she lives on Oahu) I knew it was a sign to go for Mother's Day and I'm so glad we did. True authentic Hawaiian food and add in today's gorgeous weather and you are instantly transported back to the islands. Food was amazing and we can't wait to go back and try more. Mahalo for an amazing afternoon!
google avatar

Yelp
I always hear everyone rave about grind wit tryz and I finally got the chance to try it! With tons of options, I would definitely have to come back again but the poke nacho's portion was great for sharing. It was good with fresh salmon but there was too much unagi sauce that it made too salty with just the wonton chips. A side of rice would have paired well. We also got a side of Mac salad and it's definitely top 2! The texture and flavor were perfect. There's also outside seating which is great for the nice sunny weather and the staff were friendly.

Yelp
First time at their new location, lots more street parking and easy access. Service was prompt on a Sunday. Walk up and order at the counter and they will call you when your food is ready. Consistently large portions - I got the spicy inari bombs - 4 huge pieces, enough to share. Others got the grilled chicken, kalua turkey and bean soup. Everything delicious as usual. No pics because we couldn't wait to eat, but scroll the Yelps for ideas! Tip : due to grilling food it can get a little smokey inside, so if you are eating in you might want to leave the nice coat in the trunk of the car unless you want to be reminded of the deliciousness whenever you put it on
google avatar

Yelp
Bring me back to the island! The food here - delicious, the servings - super big, the vibes - reminds me of a backyard party in my motherland. You feel at home in this place, place your order at the counter, take a look at their specials and decide how you plan on sharing all the food you plan on eating. As with a lot of places we've gone to during this food trip in Portland, you get your food and general things from the server, and you bus your own tables. Not a problem, and we just enjoyed the atmosphere, with Ekolu playing in the background. At the front counter they pay homage to their Filipino roots and to their ancestors. I also want to talk about the food, but we ordered a lot, so here is one thing - try the Poke Nachos to share, and try the Ono chicken! Those are staples, everything else we ordered was amazing too, but your eyes can tell you how good they are. Pics referenced below. Good portions to share with everyone, glad we shared our food with 6 adults, 2 kids and 1 infant. Not very many place around that do Meat Jun, and theirs doesn't disappoint, I've been craving beef luau, glad I got it. Katsu had thick pieces, poke was nice and chunky with great flavor. All the flavors you come to expect from a Hawaiian/Filipino place. Coming back everytime!

Yelp
Mixed review: First, they employ the entitled off-putting model found all over Portland: stand in line to order, PRE-tip (think about how ridiculous this is), get your own utensils and water, and bus your stuff. Most of the 20-somethings that work there probably consider a 20% tip a customer obligation. But the original intent of a tip was based on the level of service. Phew...that said... In terms of value, GWT is a cut above their peers. A typical platter easily feeds two, maybe even three. Taste-wise, they're behind Ate-oh-Ate and Ohana Hawaiian Cafe and a few food carts. Mind you, the food is good, but not memorably so. We enjoyed the Meat Jun, especially as left overs the next day because of the large portion. One of the Mule cocktails was refreshing and tasty, and a fair price point. They need more condiments choices. For dine-in, there was only one small bottle of soy sauce and no ramekins. Parking was relatively easy, but it's gonna get tougher. The outside seating should be a hit in the summer. Staff and manager/owners are very cool, I found this to be the case at almost every island food venue; the people are very nice. Portlanders seem to love island food, and go ape shit over large quantities of it. GWT is quickly attracting a following. They will do well and I wish them success.
google avatar

Yelp
Food is a bit pricey when you look at the menu, but it is easily a 2 person meal. Ordered the dynamite (not spicy) katsu, which came with two scoops of rice and a scoop of mac. Lots of outside seating and inside seating. Tons of bike racks out front on Cully, but they were also fine with us bringing our bikes into the patio area. Friends ordered the deep fried musubi, that came on a bed of macaroni salad. Definitely a heavy item to eat - I'd stick without it being deep fried next time.

Yelp
I didn't know about them, until my neighborhood posted a copy of their Grand Opening! We've not been to a Filipino-Hawaiian restaurant grand opening. To help celebrate another birthday for me, let's go! The Lion Dance, from White Lotus was about to start. (We brought ear plugs! We're old). It was outside. It was already packed of seated customers, out in the patio, and the line already started as we walked in the patio. Then, we started lining up, for meals, and it took us a little over 1hr. before we started to get inside to order. (We already planned our meals to-go, so we can picnic, in peace, in our car somewhere with a view). I tell you! The food was HUGE, enough for about 4 people. I ordered one that has vegetables. Pork Kawali. It was a tomato salad with onions and it was tasty! Everything WAS tasty, even the macaroni. (I'm not a mac lover, this I love!) Hubby ordered the ribs, more like Bolgogi with rice & mac. It's got great flavor, but he said, the meat was tough. I told him: just eat with your fingers and like beef jerky! He loves the macaroni. (Who doesn't?) I'm hoping to do a market at the Cully neighborhood this summer, and we will definitely be stopping by for to-go eat at home!

Yelp
I have DAYDREAMS about my meal here. Perfect comfort food. It was the first salmon katsu I've ever had and I think I need 10 more. Crispy. Warm. Fresh. Juicy. What more can you ask for!? It's a smaller restaurant with a walk-up-and-order storefront which leads to the line often flowing out the door (forcing you to wait in cold - at least during winter) and the large amount of customers makes you awkwardly stand among the indoor seating that is available which can make things feel a bit cramped. Even with the wait I didn't mind much because it meant that everything was served hot and made to order. The serving size is generous and filling. Street parking was fine and the cashier interaction was standard. The food is worth your coin. My only recommendation would be to plan for takeout or expect very limited seating and a potentially long wait.

Yelp
The food was OK but didn't think it was anything special . I must say they sure do get a crowd .

Yelp
I've been to the old Alberta location several times and always had a great experience. This new location made almost everything go down hill. The food is still good but the service is terrible. The servers act like they hate their life. No smiles and no your welcomes after saying thank yous. It took 10 minutes to receive the poke nachos but another 30 for the lumpia and I had to ask for the beer I ordered and that took another 10. Maybe they need to get happier servers and that could improve everything. I'll give this location another try but if it's the same with the service, I'll have to find another place for poke nachos. Next day edit: Food poisoned. I take it back. Sadly will not return.
google avatar

Theresa C.

Yelp
If you haven't tried them, please do. They close up shop the end of January. Which is quite sad. I'm hoping that they rest up for a bit ,and come back in the near future. Washington County maybe? I had their ono chicken w/ rice and mac salad. Their portions are a value for what you pay. Tasty and quite filling. Sad to see a locally owned business close up shop, hopefully I get to try something else before then.
google avatar

Lisa N.

Yelp
I finally got to cross this place off my foodie list after seeing it on insta. I wanted the poke nachos but didn't see it on the menu. Honestly everything on their menu and photos looks sooo freaking good. I ended up ordering 1/2 pound of poké instead. It was covered in sauce and tasted fresh. Still doesn't compare to the poké in Hawaii tho... The restaurant was packed and there were no seats indoors. They do have outdoor seating. Luckily, I was able to get a table as someone was leaving. Price and portion is fairly priced. Staff were working hard. I would come back to try some of their other items.
google avatar

Yelp
Nothing fancy in decore , but what matters is the food!! The Ono chicken is to die for large portions and so crispy and flavorful. The loco moco is excellent too . Tons of meat with two eggs and gravy . We try and stop on our drive through Oregon!! A must stop and they are very friendly too! Outdoor seating which was great since we had a dog with us.
google avatar

Heather S.

Yelp
Grind Wit has come a long way since they were in a food cart with a line around the corner, or since they were stuffed into a tiny space on Alberta. The crowds are still big, but fit much better in the new location. This is the best traditional Hawaiian food on the mainland. Huge portions and good prices for the portions. Every dish is like 3-4 meals.
google avatar

Lizzy L.

Yelp
As a Seattlite, I was delighted to try out some delicious Portland cuisine! I was recommended this spot and it did not disappoint! The servers were friendly and quick and the food was delicious! I recommend getting the combo plates. We got the beef teriyaki, pork katsu, and the famous chicken! All were delicious and flavorful and the portions were generous! Honestly some of the best Hawaiian food I've ever had!

Yelp
It use to be: -Quality 4/5 -Value 6/5 !! -Service 3/5 Now it's: -Quality 3/5 -Value 4/5 -Service 2/5

Yelp
This place is always packed, and it's been on our list forever. We finally got a chance to try it. I ordered the kalbi ribs and the lecho kawali. The ribs were incredibly chewy, very inedible. I couldn't finish them it was that bad. Flavor was good... and the lecho kawali was chewy too, just not as bad. Good portion of rice. And my husband said the mac was good. He got the spicy ahi and ahí katsu. He really liked them both. Very generous portions of rice and mac. I wouldn't go back, but my husband would... hence the the mid rating. I guess it depends on what you get.
google avatar

Nathan M.

Yelp
First time trying this place out. Got a Chicken Katsu Dynamite plate and a side of Mac. The portions are HUUGE. The Mac salad was good but dry. Needs more mayo or some kind of sauce. Chicken Katsu was GREAT. Not too thick breading, and had the perfect crunch. Only thing that could have made it better was more sauce. The top pieces are well coated but the pieces underneath were bone dry. Luckily, they worked well with dipping in sriracha. There is a bit of a wait so I would advise making an order online. Definitely would come back and may just ask for an extra side of the sauces.

Yelp
Hawaiian nachos - My goodness!!! This can feed a family. I ordered this to go, but had some of it at the restaurant. It's casual dining where you order at the register and your name is called out once your food is ready. It's a Filipino/Hawaiian fusion so it's right up my alley. When I saw this oh my goodness, it was insane!!! The box was full of poke nachos and meat where they used a rubber band to try to keep the box closed. The meat to wonton ratio was perfect!! I need to come back here and try other items from their menu.
google avatar

Chloe G.

Yelp
This place is bomb. Absolutely my new favorite Hawaiian place in Portland. We went in today and there was a huge line of people to place orders and lots of to go orders getting picked up. Staff was friendly, decor was islander themed, they played Hawaiian music and the food was so good and portions were big. We got the 3 combo and decided on kahlbi ribs, garlic shrimp and lecheon. Also order spicy bombs which were delicious. I look forward to trying more items next time.

Yelp
I'd heard great things, and this place didn't disappoint! Very low on seating, especially in the Winter, so aim for take out. Even with that limitation, this place is epic. Portion sizes are gigantic and the taste is perfect. My native Hawaiian friend swears this is the closest place to home he's found here, and I can believe it. Mac salad is always my favorite part, and I loved their take on it, with bigger mac. Awesome place. Will be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome, awesome food!! A coworker of mine who's from Hawaii this was the best spot for Hawaiian food!! She wasn't wrong. We ordered the Poke Nachos, Ono chicken, Korean Fried chicken, honey walnut shrimp, and the Kalbi beef ribs. Big portions, definitely worth the money. They had live music this weekend with a couple pop up shops outside selling merchandise and desserts. Great food awesome atmosphere

Yelp
As another local braddah i can attest this is prob the best local Hawaii spot in Oregon. Shitt hits harder than my mamas slippah after she found out i got detention. The meat jun my god was crispy and fatty with their portions. The poke nachos were fresh and their won ton chips were the perfect vessel for everything. I can feel the knack hitting in with each bite but would do it all over again. Bulk approved

Yelp
I'm sad. Have been really wanting to try this place due to the amazing photos and reviews and we LOVE Hawaiian food! I have to say I'm a bit disappointed in all except the poke and the inamri based flavor bombs, 4 for $12. Imagine sweet rice wrapped in tofu skin and topped with poke tuna!! So amazing and unique. The tuna was generously cubed with delicious sauce, some of the best fresh poke I've ever had... go get the tuna poke!! However, the wonton chips were grossly over cooked in old oil. They almost were unedible. We should have said something but decided not to. The other disappointment was the garlic shrimp. The flavor was great and the portion was some of the largest we've seen. However, the execution was way off tonight. From other yelp photos we expected crispy and crunchy happy shrimp. Instead we got lightly breaded soggy soft, over cooked shrimp. The batter was clumpy and soggy that we had to peel it off and when you did that there was no more flavor. Just a messy dish but we saw the kitchen was busy pushing out to go orders and it was close to closing time so we didn't want to make a fuss. But for over $50, maybe we should have. Everything was packaged in to go containers even though we ate in. We may give them another chance if we're close but it's a long way for us.

Yelp
So... lots of feelings. The main thing is, the food is great here. You get a big portion, so you can share if you want. It's all very good value and quality. I can see me and the missus becoming regulars here. During our first visit, we came here for lunch. Ordered the Ono Chicken and we couldn't have been more pleased. The staff was friendly and our food came out so fast. It was hot and muggy that day. We sat outside because there was no airflow inside. During our most recent visit (yesterday), it was much cooler and it looked like it might rain. So we got to enjoy sitting inside. This time, we ordered a combo plate: Lechon Kawali, Honey Walnut Shrimp, and of course, Ono Chicken. That's a 4-star meal, only because I went straight for the lechon and thqt was neither crispy or hot. It was warm enough, at least, that the pork fat wasn't gross. But hey, we ate it all and it was the most flavorful thing I had that day. Next visit, I'll order it later, and maybe then, it'll have had more time in the warmer.

Yelp
I'm a long time supporter of this establishment, this was my first time coming to this new location on Cully. There's a lot of room for outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. I loved the decorations and music in the background. We came in on a very sunny day on the weekend so it was extra busy. It took close to 40-50 minutes to get our food. From what I remember from the old location, I wouldn't say the food lived up to my previous expectations from coming here when they had a food cart on mlk and then the actual restaurant on Alberta. I just felt like everything lacked flavor compared to the past. I also felt that the portions weren't as big as they were previously, but given the times and bigger location I understand the change to smaller portions.
