"45 Tchoup is a perfect stop before or after a show at Tipitina’s for those seeking a friendly environment and cheap drinks Uptown (not always easy). Fun decor, warm bartenders, and a solid selection of beer on tap make it a go-to, especially if you’re a Boston sports fan." - Eater Staff

Google
Cool fun place where locals hang out and mysterious things happen. Atmosphere friendly, soulful, and intimate. Lighting dim, great drinks. Bartenders attentive to regulars and people from the neighborhood. Like a clean cool dive bar, my favorite kind of spot, getting more rare and hard to find! Street parking was easy.

Eve Smallwood

Google
Ray was so friendly and treated us with such kindness when we came in. A relaxed atmosphere neighborhood bar. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.

Seth Matasar

Google
Always a great vibe. Great bartenders. Never intrusive, but they always remember your name. Great place to watch a game. Never crazy, never sedate.

Mo Wiltshire

Google
Great neighborhood bar ...a classic...friendly people. Great bartenders and that perfect bar vibe! Ask for Ray when your are there he is the best bartender ever, funny, clever, very personable and full of local information.

Freddy Silva

Google
Great neighborhood bar! I heard some great stories and met some really cool people!!

Dane Lee

Google
The best uptown bar. No, don't tell me about Mae's or Bon Temp or whatever. This is a real bar with video poker, cheap drinks, a patio and food on Sundays for the game. Come check it out, or don't, I don't care. We'll be here drinking and hanging out anyway.

Brad Sims

Google
This place is great. Friendly people. Solid drinks. Awesome.

Justin Machacek

Google
Always a great time, highly suggested as it is a spot you must say "I've been there" when you visit NOLA!

Mardi C.

Yelp
always a good time. this is family here. uptown new orleans. home of the wild tchoupitoulas, home of the red socks gang. great customers, and great people who work here. I highly recommend

Alex M.

Yelp
Exactly what you want in a dark drive bar with little light. It's the type of place you never know what time it is, in the best way. Only giving 4 stars because there's no kitchen.

Lance F.

Yelp
Good old neighborhood bar prices are pretty pricey for drinks, but good people good place to hang late nights pricey drinks

Russell J.

Yelp
Before Tucks parade, the Elvis hangout. Starts at 8:30 AM. Always a blast and friendly bar tenders.

Mike T.

Yelp
I had seen this place while shopping across the street. Red Sox banner, looks small from the outside. Walked in and it took a sec for my eyes to adjust. It's pretty dark in here. Couple of other patrons on one end of the bar, tvs on sports. I was greeted by a cheery, funny lady behind the bar, very friendly. She mentioned how dark it was in the bar, and the beer was as cold as it was dark in here. The beer IS cold, decent price. There is Red Sox memorabilia all around, and coincidentally, a Red Sox game on tv. The bartender had a big jar on the bar with peppers in it, said it was filled with vodka, for bloody marys on Sunday before the Saints game. Pretty cool. Bathroom is decent, couple of tables and a back room Its ok.

Eddie C.

Yelp
Cozy cool fun bar. Its barely a dive tho. Categorized as a dive is what brought me in, dealing with the bartenders is what keeps me coming back. Now that its non smoking, its a 1000 times better. There is plenty or spots to talk and get deep into conversation besides the bar. Tables and booths way in the back lets you get all kissy face. During the winter months its nice and comfy back there. Its a Red Sox bar if that matters to you. Im not a raving sports fanatic but the background noise is comforting. The nightly visit of a food truck, my apologies on not knowing which one it is, is a sure thing too. Its the truck that sells the fried avocado slices. MMMM! There is a very nice selection of draught and bottled beer here too. Its constantly changing. Parking can be a bit of a hassle if you gotta park on the "inside" of the adjacent neighborhood. Not well lit and sometimes sketchy. Walking across Tchoupitoulas with a buzz isnt not easy feat either but this place is definitely worth it. Good prices and awesome staff is where its at for this funky hole in the wall.

Nicoya W.

Yelp
I'm no Red Sox fan...but this is a great place!! The owner Debbie is AMAZING...I didn't even know she was the owner until the end of my visit lol. She's so funny and down to earth...and she LOVES her Red Sox. Reasonable drink prices. No food tho, sometimes they have pop ups. Good beer choices...even had some beers I enjoy in the Dominican Republic. Check it out. Not touristy which is great for us locals.

David G.

Yelp
Bert serving drinks at the bar. Very heavy poor which is to be expected at any nola staple "dive bar". The owners are Red Sox fans which means this bar must be a great place coming from a Yankees fan. Great place for football Sundays and any sport game for that matter

Steve W.

Yelp
Came here a few months back because I've always noticed the Boston Red Sox flag hanging outside of it and I'm a big big big big fan, so I had to try it out. I was overwhelmed by the amount of Red Sox gear in here. I felt at home! The staff was excellent and the pricing was right on par with other dive bars in the area. Debbie was amazing to my wife and I even tho my wife is a Yankee fan (SMDH). The beer selection was typical but we did have a Dominican beer that was really good. I'll be going back soon with my friends that are die hard Red Sox fans as well so they can experience the greatness that is 45 Tchoup!

Devin C.

Yelp
Great dive bar. Wonderful bartender and lots of fun decor to have conversations about. Right on Tchoup, close to Magazine St so you've got plenty to do all around you. Not to forget, the delicious pop up food business SWILLIE POP cooking fresh and hot sandwiches for you to grub on!

Angie T.

Yelp
There are bars you can still smoke in?! Yuck. Sorry smokers (I used to be one so I get it) but yuck. The stink of smoke in my hair woke me up in the middle of the night after stopping in here and was so bad I had to get up to wash it before I could get back to sleep. That's not good. Definitely a dive, this bar is very dim and smokey. The bartender was friendly and came to take my order as soon as I walked up to the bar. The bloody mary I ordered wasn't that great or strong, though. That's not good either.

Jen L.

Yelp
This is a solid neighborhood bar that is spacious and has MLB season pass (if that's important to you). I would hang out here alot except y'know the smoking. The liquor is well priced, the bartenders are on point, the clientele is diverse and welcoming. But dang do they smoke. I've heard their trivia night is outstanding. And just as a note about the women's restrooms, they are spacious (not palatial) but you don't feel trapped and feature my all time dive bar favorite...plywood stalls. Love some industrious carpentry. PLUS they have old high school prom pictures to make you laugh. OK I just changed my review rating from 3 (because of the smoke) to 4 (because of the prom pictures). Sometimes it's the little things...

John L. H.

Yelp
45 Tchoup is a smokey dive bar. Years ago I wouldn't have minded the smokiness. Hell, dive bars are supposed to be smokey, right? The problem with the level of smoke is that the next day my clothes and hair reek, plus my lungs don't want to function to their full capacity. Now that that is out of the way, 45 Tchoup is a pretty cool place. There was a pretty good beer selection including several St. Arnold's beers. While not local, I occasionally like to support Texas brewers and this bar gave me that opportunity. The bar was nice and dark with a low ceiling. These two features added to the ambiance and made me feel better about drinking beer while it was still technically the daytime. I would probably come back to 45 Tchoup if I were in the area, but if it was crowded, I would probably pass due to the level of smoke.

Matt C.

Yelp
Has all the aspects that you would like to see / expect of a dive bar... Smoking. TVs playing sports. Pool tables, and other games... Good music bumping on juke bock. Very friendly, quick / prompt service from bartenders. And something which came of a surprise: Cheap, Cheap drinks! For the good stuff too! Oh yeah, big time... Oh yeah.

Jim M.

Yelp
Sometimes a bar is great because of the bar itself, regardless of personnel, I find this to be the case most of the time. However, at 45 Tchoup, while the bar itself is great, the owners and bartenders are really what makes this place special. They bring so much energy, are so friendly, and clearly love what they do! If you're a Red Sox fan, this is your place. They have NESN and play all of the Sox games. The energy Debbie brings during games is what makes the atmosphere so awesome (note; I've only been here during Sox games).

Spud Z.

Yelp
My favorite bar in New Orleans, hands down. Signed, someone who sits on a lot of bar stools.

Sahra V.

Yelp
On the list of favorite dives where everybody knows your name. 45 Tchoup attracts new recruits on the daily though so different faces mix with the familiar. The drink prices are amazing and the bartenders don't hesitate to discount or comp when needs be. Love the bartenders - Deb is a saint. Juke box, hysterical bathroom, free darts, gambling machines and a back area for a bit of quiet. Went to a benefit crawfish boil recently - that's where the photo came from.

Julius C.

Yelp
nice local dive bar for enjoying a Sunday Saints football game with all the locals...prices are really good for beers and mixed drinks....these guys will also provide free buffet foods during a football game. i love seeing a bar full of young and old folks mixing.....this is what makes NOLA great....

Nick B.

Yelp
The jukebox at Tchoup 45 could have been stocked by my grandmother, specifically for those nights when she had a couple too many Brandy Alexanders and started flirting with the busboy, had my grandmother been a whiskey drinker who hung out at country-themed drag bars in Norman, OK. It is, in other words, the greatest jukebox in the history of public houses. On my last visit there were 9,987 credits on that baby just waiting to get spent. Darts? Check. Evan Williams and a pint for $4? Got it. Hedwig and the Angry Inch soundtrack right next to Rebirth and Hank, Jr. on the box? Were you not paying attention earlier? As Christine D. noted, it is also wildly smoky. Impossibly smoky. So smoky that, the next day and possibly for many days after (depending on how many fresh loofahs you own), you will smell like one of those creepy old people who chain smoke Merits with their cat and rheumy-eyed Jack Russell in their sketchy condo for decades on end. But no one ever said that entry to Jukebox Valhalla came without its cost.

Danon H.

Yelp
Yes this place has cheap booze. I used to go here because one of my friends considered this place his favorite hangout. The way he hyped this place up I thought it would have been way better. If you are not a smoker this will bother you like crazy, Lots of people smoke here. Back when I hung out here I used to smoke so I guess it was no big deal. I think if I went back I probably wouldn't be able to handle it anymore. This place does get super crowded but it is still fun. In short this place is good but overcrowded and smoky. Still it is way better than Ms. Maes!

Christine D.

Yelp
While I want to love 45 Tchoup because it's a Red Sox bar (WOOT!) with a good vibe and darts...the smoke in there is (in my opinion) the worst in the city. I can't breathe and I leave feeling nauseous. I've gone back a few times hoping that I can stand it but ... I can't. I think that if it wasn't for the smoke I would be there at least a few times a week during SOX season.

Clotilde L.

Yelp
45 Tchoup, pronounced "CHOP", is a great place to be before or after any event at Tipitina's. It seems to be ripping and rolling around 2am. Drinks are cheap...like, stupid cheap..and I like the crowd here a lot. It's a way better alternative than Miss Mae's and Snake and Jake's. I feel safe here. I never feel like I'm going to puke from the stench of body odor or get robbed. These things are important things to consider on a late night drinking binge.

Sara G.

Yelp
If you like to mix alcohol with your coffee I have two words for you... Triple Jitter. Drop what you're doing right now and go order one. I could drink the Van Gogh espresso vodka that they use in that drink straight! Oh wait... I do... well on the rocks ha! I also could have sworn I had written a review for this place already but maybe I started and had just had one too many of the aforementioned drinks *scratches head* oh well moving right along! The bartenders here are the best, so helpful. I would have never discovered my new favorite vodka without them! They have darts, an excellent beer selection, and free food during saints games! It also doesn't hurt that Taceaux Loceaux and WhoBurger seem to pop up here quite often. I guess I could see why the smoke would bother people but I have never really been there during peak hours I suppose. It's definitely a fun little haunt for me.

Marielle S.

Yelp
Typical dive bar with a good beer selection. This is a great place to watch a game, but be warned: the ceilings are low and the place gets really smoky. It's a neighborhood place and the patrons are friendly and nice. The staff is pretty awesome, too.

Robyn D.

Yelp
After starting the night, er, late afternoon off in a classy fashion, my friends and I decided we needed a slighty grungier place to continue our escapades. After a quick search of happy hour specials, we found ourselves at 45 Tchoup. We sauntered into the dimly lit bar and sat ourselves down to grab drinks and take in the scenery. Our bartender, Shanon "Deuce," was a friendly lady who filled us in on the daily specials(try the $3.50 bluberry gin martini) and the place's history. While nursing our drinks, pulled pork tacos and homemade slaw magically appreaded behind us. SO GREAT. Apparently, one of the bartenders brings food on Tuesdays for bar patrons. Delicious free food, always a plus in my book. Good, nicey priced, also a plus. While the bar is out of the way for me, I'll be sure to stop by whenever I'm in the area. Gracias, 45 Tchoup!

Shannon S.

Yelp
This dive joint is the basement/ground level of a house right across from Rouse's on Tchop. This place sometimes has music and often has other events going on. It is a relatively generous space and has a decent sized bar. This place will often get crowded during a big show at Tipitina's when folks will walk back forth between here and there and then hang out here after the Tip's show. This generally seems to be a cool bar except for the times when it gets too smokey and I'm not a fan of smoke or dumb ass smokers that always seem to accidentally bump into you and burn you with their cigarettes. This place seems to almost always be open so I'm not even sure what there hours are if they aren't 24/7.

Megan M.

Yelp
45 Tchop was highly recommended to me by a dear friend who spent a lot of time here in her twenties. She's a picky little princess much like myself (albeit a bit more than I). But we both also appreciate the appeal and atmosphere of a good dive bar. Really could become my go-to neighborhood bar. My only complaint is the smoke. It's so small and poorly ventilated that my eyes were killing me from all of the smoke. And I got home stinking like an ashtray. It's dark and divey with a mixed crowd. The prices were unbelievable! The bartender was awesome. Even as crowded as it was, I never once had to wait more than a minute or two for him to grab my order.

Eddie M.

Yelp
Red Sox Nation, New Orleans Chapter #1! Good times, through the tough times and thrillers. LET'S GEAUX RED SOX!!!

Kuang J.

Yelp
I have been meaning to write up 45 Tchoup for some time, as this is one of the best neighborhood bars in the Uptown area. The staff here are all super nice, drinks are reasonably priced, the music is consistently great, and the patrons are friendly to boot. If my life had turned out differently, I would gladly be planted at the bar every damn night. Unfortunately, due to some so-called "success" and "luck" in life I cannot go to the bar and get hammered every damn night, which suggests I need to rethink "success" and "luck." Special note: they are now holding a quiz night every Monday at around 9pm. I have gone a few times and can attest that they do it right--funny categories, sweet prizes, and hands-down the best music round I have ever seen, and I have quizzed it up world wide. Bert, the bartender who does the music questions, is a mad genius.

Colin K.

Yelp
This bar is excellent. They don't serve food but it makes up for that in every aspect of being a bar. They also have food trucks on busy nights so there are some great food options here from time to time. Bartenders are always friendly and quick to pour. They have a dart board, juke box and a poker table in the back. This is one of my favorite local bars

Laura C.

Yelp
I came here with the promise of darts. So last weekend a promised face off against the dart master of my boys turned into the scavenger hunt of the year. We started off the night at shamrock to be turned away by our dislike of paying cover for a band we didn't know and the bass lines coming out the door made an otherwise sure... let's do it moment turn into me running headlong down those green stairs towards freedom and the words "it's new orleans.... there's got to be plenty of places to play." So we began. We contemplated mick's but realized we weren't sure if they had any darts. Drink one and out the door. Went to milan and in the midst of my confusion about when was that party that brought me down here realized the hipsters crowding the front weren't going anywhere we had a few tasty cocktails, grabbed a sixer to go and headed to 45 tchoup. This was the first time i'd ever walked in that door and I have to say it was a great surprise. It wasn't overly crowded and I was able to order my whiskey and coke within just a few clicks of bellying up to the bar. It was a good drink, strong and she didn't put diet in the glass (which turns out is still a huge problem the first time I order a whiskey and coke at almost any bar round here). And she very quickly took care of the guys too. To our disapointment they were down from the promised 2 dart boards to one that was already taken. We settled in and chilled out for a bit drinking up the great neighborhood bar atmosphere and the clean space. We went to check out the foozeball table to discover that it had been removed in favor of a poker table. Sad moment, but hey... i'd play some serious poker back there given a chance. During a rogue girl moment/ escape from the sports talk I was suddenly surrounded by i headed to the ladies room. Which was great. Hilarious with the prom pics up everywhere. I spent a very entertained extra 10 minutes in their oggling some bad prom dresses and even worse auquanet situations. We managed to ringer the dart board away from the guys playing for a game and I did enjoy how even though the bar got even more crowded as tips let out that it still felt cozy and warm over there. So our challenge turned into one drunken game but was well worth it to discover this little jewel way over on the other side of town. My advice is go in if you find yourself over there. No matter how packed the bar my drinks and tab came in a timely manner with a smile and a friendly joke. The seats aren't thousands in capacity or anything, but it's still roomy enough for a night out with friends. And from what the guys said the tap selection was pretty decent. And note to yourself if you're looking for a place to play darts in this town: Buy your own darts and bring them with you wherever you go.

Anthony S.

Yelp
The best. Fun staff and great hidden area. Nice clients. And check out dick and Jenny's next door.

Erica F.

Yelp
Best bar owners in town! They hire great bartenders and they alll take care of their clientele. You can't find a better dive bar uptown. Not to forget it is definitely the cleanest one I've seen. I'll absolutely go back!

Matt M.

Yelp
I just visited 45 Tchoup after having lived here for 3 years. I really regret not stopping by earlier! While this place sort of reminds me of sports bar meets dive bar - it really is a pretty comfortable atmosphere and a good place to grab a few drinks. The prices are very fair - $2 high life all the time, 2.50 mexican beer night on Tuesdays and drafts range $3-5. Overall, its one of those places where if you drink cheap, you'll be tipsy to make your $10 credit card minimum! The one downside is that the place is VERY smokey - the only portal to the outside world appears to be the front door, so not a lot of air circulation going on in here.

Dennis M.

Yelp
One of the better dive bars around. Killer jukebox. Cool staff. Decent beer choices. Darts. Trivia. Pool. Boom. Go there. One downside: bit of a sausage fest

Elisa C.

Yelp
Solid. Clean dive. Yeah those words go together for some reason in Nola. But if you dig a bizzilion beer options, band stickered walls, pool, tall boys, and actual real live locals... You'll dig it here.

Matt T.

Yelp
Being on vacation from New England, I looked up Red Sox Bar New Orleans and 45 tchoup came up and I'm so glad it did! Stopped in to watch the playoff game, and was greeted by Debbie, the owner, like I was long lost family. She is a host who bring s such positive energy, it's impossible to have a bad time. Located down the street from Tipitina's its mostly friendly locals (going out to dinner tonight with a couple I met there last night) and ex-pat New Englanders who want to watch the game. They have a good beer selection and drinks are moderately priced. Two thumbs up!

Jessica H.

Yelp
I absolutely LOVE this place! It has a great relaxed atmosphere and some of the friendliest and most fun bartenders anywhere. It probably doesn't hurt that the owner is a sweetheart and I am a Red Sox fan.

Kris D.

Yelp
Even though theres nothing ostensibly stand-out about 45, I spend quite a bit of time here. This is definitely a "Cheers" bar, where everybody knows your name. If you can make out their face through the haze of cigarette smoke, that is. Personally, the smoke doesn't bother me, though i have plenty of friends who refuse to go here for that reason. I just love the laid back, dive-y vibe. On game days, theres always a spread of food to help yourself to, which is such a nice tradition that you rarely see in bars now. During baseball season, well, I hope you're a Red Sox fan. If not, keep your allegiances quiet, lol. And theres often a food truck parked out front. Yum! A great pre or post show stop if you're seeing music at Tipitinas, which is just down the street.

Squirrel S.

Yelp
Great low key neighborhood bar. Wouldn't call it a sports bar, but they show huge Red Sox / Cubslove. Used to have an awsome trivia night...hopefully someone will step up to fill those shoes again. Easy, safe parking available at Rouses across the street. Such a trip to go in there and think about it being the Shilo...

Julia B.

Yelp
Definitely a dive bar... pretty smoky and not the cleanest, but the drinks are cheap, and their happy hour goes m-f 2-8, which is pretty good. However, my friend did order an abita amber on tap, and after a few sips she realized her beer tasted/smelled kind of rusty. Upon having the rest of us take a sniff of her drink, we realized it smelled like an old dirty sponge, AKA mildew and rust... really gross. Luckily when she asked for a replacement beer the bartender didn't put up a stink, but it kind of grossed the rest of us out.

Mitch H.

Yelp
I was visiting New Orleans from out of town during the World Series and hoping to find a fun bar to watch the game at. This bar was more fun than most place I would have found in Boston and Debbie, the owner, made a point to come up and meet me and include me in everything that was happening even though I was from out of town. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough. Fantastic people serving cheap beer who understand sports. It's a no brainer! Come have a fun night at 45 Tchoup

Guy S.

Yelp
First time here, went after work with my staff, looks like a great place to throw some darts. Bartender had a great attitude and the bar was well stocked

Kendal S.

Yelp
If you love dive bars then this is one for you. Only had one drink while we were waiting for Tipitinas to open but if this was in my own neighborhood I would be a regular.

Justin R.

Yelp
I don't know if I just had a bad night here, but I doubt I'll be back. It was very dead and very smoky, I usually don't have a huge problem with smoking, but I felt like I was hanging out in an ash tray here. The one good thing is that they have cheap drinks and darts! But that still wont get me back. Sorry.

Christopher D.

Yelp
I have been coming to 45 Tchoup as long as I have lived in New Orleans. As a lifelong Red Sox fan, it was a bit of a homecoming experience to chat with the bartenders and enjoy a few reasonably-priced beers while watching a ballgame. I even was lucky enough to see the Sox clinch a World Series at 45 Tchoup this fall! The biggest thing I can say about 45 Tchoup is the bartenders there. My money says that they are the friendliest in the city. I had only been there a handful of times before Deb (the owner) enthusiastically greeted my by name and started asking me about the Sox. During football season, they have NFL Sunday Ticket and normally have several games on during the day. The crowd is predominantly Saints fans, but all fans are welcome. I myself am a Patriots fan, and have never had a negative experience with a patron there. The atmosphere can be a little dim and smokey (I do not smoke myself), so as long as that doesn't bother you, there is not a better place in New Orleans to catch a Red Sox game, enjoy some good conversation and very reasonably priced drinks.

Aja W.

Yelp
I love tchoup 45! Came to visit my brother and ended up moving here! So now I am a regular! Come in during midday and it can be quiet but the customer service is awesome and friendly as well as during late nights!! Mary Ann and Franky and Burt are amazing.! I love just pulling up a chair to the bar and chatting it up with these three! There is also bar tables positioned around and a poker table in the back. There are dart boards as well and I believe I joined a dart league there the other night! Go figure! The price range is great and this place is a home away from home. All the customers I have met are locals and fun to get to know. I have made so many new connections. They don't serve food but there are good trucks that work with them and you can eat inside! Love that! So I can sober up for my little walk home! Lol. Had to give a shout out to tchoup 45, see you tomorrow!

Gerlaine B.

Yelp
I love, love, love this bar! Debbie & Frankie along with all the other bartenders are amazing. Definitely a neighborhood bar. Great jukebox!

Dietrich B.

Yelp
Been going since it was called shiloh's. Debbie is the new owner I believe. This is a great bar, only when Christian isn't there. One of those bartenders who acts like serving a damn drink w a smile is impossible. Other wise a great place. The tamale vendor sucks, but the taco loco truck usually pitted in front of the bar is GREAT!!!

Sara V.

Yelp
I am HUGE fan!!! Great bartenders, cheap drinks. Divey bar. They had trivia last night. We were not good, but it was still fun.... Local, divey place. that is nice to everyone who walks in the door.
