Great place to watch your football games. Food is simple but good. Gary really goes out of his way to assist his customers both at the bar and food serving. Wish they could add nachos to their food list, a long with pastrami sandwich.

Currently on location here. Clean property, including the bathroom. Yes, there is an outdoor patio for smokers (as every bar should have, come on, people are drinking!) Grilled cheese = amazing Burgers (added cheddar cheese) = awesome Other reviews said the owner is the griller - if this is the same guy, he just came to our table and asked how we are doing. Thanks for putting up your banner about the best burger in town- this is why we looked you up on Google! Great service from him, and our bartender. Photographed the menu for readers' convenience. This place is down the street from my office and I always see it on the way to work in the mornings. They have a huge sign that says something along the lines of “best burgers in town,” and being a burger person, I accepted the challenge. They were not joking. The burger was not only huge, it was amazing! The burger was juicy and flavorful 🤤. My mouth is literally watering as I write this. The staff and owner were super friendly and accommodating as well. I’ll definitely be back, but as someone watching her waistline, I’m in trouble, because every bite is worth the extra work I’ll need to put in to keep it.😅

Went there last night after having seen some comments on the next door app about the burger.. man oh man, I wish I had discovered this burger before, 8 years in Long Beach went by having never tried this beauty. I will be back each time I want a DELICIOUS burger, the best I’ve had in this country so far and I am an acclaimed burger expert haha. Highly recommended, also the bar tender was super charming and the bathroom was spotless.. we will go back for Wednesday $9 beer jug.

Cool dive bar. Watched games here when I visit my cousin. Staff is super chill Typically I watch football and baseball bit I've seen soccer and other events posted.

We came in for a burger that my neighbor( who's a regular) keeps raving about. Ordered two beers and checked out the menu. Server, Maxi, was not friendly nor did she ask us if we were hungry. Not once did she check in on us. Asked for the bill which she got quickly not noticing the fly in my friends beer that had to be pointed out to her. Her response "oh there's a fly". (Hindsight I should have taken a pic) No apology or "Can I get you another beer?" I paid the tab for two beers and walked out. My opinion is , if you have a "male appendage" you get service and she'll let you buy her drink shots. NOTE after talking to my neighbor he said not to go when Maxi is working, she's a terrible server. May go back but my first instinct is a big NO. Time will tell...

Amazing food, staff and atmosphere! They have tons of beer options for the ladies including champagne by the split and full bottle.

A friend of mine and I decided to go to this bar. We thought it would be a chill spot. But once we stepped foot in the regulars that were there looked as though they had just seen two ghosts. The talking died down and it was complete silence. The only person who was welcoming was the Waitress/Bartender working that day. We didn't stay long after four beers and two songs being played on the jukebox. I don't think we will be coming back.

Will never return here since they've started sneaking in a transaction fee after the fact and can't explain why it's there and you can't have it removed from the bill. I would visit here every month with a group of 10 people - we'll go elsewhere from now on. You want to charge more? Build it into your menu prices, don't sneak a fee. It may be legal, but it's a terrible business decision.

Came into the bar with a friend and Cal State Long Beach alum who recalls coming here many times while in school. The bar looks very nice with some fancy graphite bar counter and a couple of pool tables. Would love to come in and try the food but that will be for another day! I did notice that we had tried to call 2-3 times to see if it was open and decided to come and see physically; of course they were but they were not busy yet they never answered the phone?

Great environment Staff friendly and people are respectful I would recommend stopping by for a cold beer and burger.

Try the burger, do yourself the favor. Get a couple beers, you won't regret the good times here. Service is great, Shelly is awesome!

My husband and I were down in Long Beach picking up paperwork. It was a rainy day. We wanted to stick around the area and have a couple drinks at the closest bar. We walked into 49rs Tavern & Grill - as the first customers - and we were immediately warmly welcomed by the friendly bartender Baylee. She was so fun, we ended up staying for a few rounds of drinks. And she was sad to see us go. Only thing is this bar is beer and wine only.

My favorite bar. Great food, cheap beer, outstanding service and sports on multiple tvs. Besides the cheap beer in cans---PBR, Hamms, Busch Light, Rolling Rock , there is an excellent selection of craft beers and seltzers on tap. Jose is a dedicated cook. Everything is cooked on outdoor grills. Shelley, Baylee, Raya, Mayra and Kat are attractive and attentive servers/bartenders. Two pool tables and shuffleboard. Not loud with a neighborhood feel.

49rs Tavern & Grill is a upscale Dive Bar. 2-Pool tables and a shuffleboard. The Burgers are the best you are going to find in the area. Gary makes a mean Burger called the DirtBag Burger. Unbelievable in flavor and has just the right amount of everything to make it the best. Hours are 11AM to 10PM Sunday through Thursday and 11AM to 11PM Friday and Saturday. They have a Firemans hour and a happy hour.

I came in the other day to hang out and I decided I just had to give our bartender a shoutout. Brian gave us excellent service. It was kinda nice seeing a guy bartender for once lol. He brought a great vibe and he was just really fun to talk to. He definitely kept us entertained the whole time! It was cool seeing how well he served everyone consistently and you could really tell everyone was very satisfied. Thank you for the great experience Brian!

No longer kid/family friendly. Came in on Sunday afternoon for burgers and grabbed a table on the patio. Manager came by, stated that the new owner doesn't want kids on the premises and told us to leave. We ended up up Roundin 3rd which had a much more inviting environment.

Went to the 49rs Tavern last Friday around 5pm. It was slightly busy. Not too crazy. The bartender/waitress came up and asked what we wanted. I said the QR codes on the tables weren't working, and I needed a menu. She pointed to the board that I couldn't really see across the bar and said "sorry we have no menus, but it's on the board." She walked away and never came back. After 20 minutes of waiting, we saw her sitting at the bar on her phone. We walked out and went across the street to the 562 bar and had a much better experience. It's too bad because I just moved in right across the street. They could have had a regular customer. Oh well.

Solid burger!!! 9/10. Jose is a good chef and Gary makes a fun atmosphere. Will be back for sure.

The bartender Kat is AMAZINGGG!! She has such good vibes and so down to earth ! Not to mention her attentiveness to her customers.

After living here for so many years and driving by it so many times... Finally went in to this place. It's a dive bar and unfortunately not the best burgers in town like described on their wall. It was a good piece of meat but really lacked flavor.

What a night and a very incredible time I had with my wife. We decided to give it a try now that it's under new management. I got to say. Definitely impressed with the cleanliness of the place and the wonderful customer service I received. I got a beer and my wife got a mango cart and we both enjoyed our beverages and after that we decided to play some pool. What a great bargain to play one game for a dollar. Yes I said that correctly. $1.00 to play a game of 8ball. After that we had another drink and decided to eat their. What a terrific menu that they have now. We had a old school burger and a new menu item grilled chicken and everything was terrific.

The 49r tavern, back from the dead Alive and Kicking. Same vibe but cleaner and the burger actually is better and Tude Sauce tastes the same.

Unexpectedly great! Jose, the chef, is so sweet and really puts his heart into the food. Nice patio to enjoy the sun, if dark dive bars aren't your thing on a sunny beach day! We went for taco Tuesday and decided to participate in Trivia Night. We usually pass at other bars because it can be a little intimidating, but this was perfect! Totally great for trivia newbies like us! We had a good time.

My wife and I used to love coming here for the chill atmosphere and cold beer. Loved playing pool here until they raised the game from $1.00 to $2.00. We'll be back once the game comes back down.

Another great afternoon at the 49'er. A lot of excellent beers on tap and as usual the customers and bartenders are a fun crowd to hang out with. Also a great place to watch the game with all the big screens

Walked in at 10:21pm there was one more person at the bar and he walked away just to tell us he was t servinf anymore. Two people walked in and he served him. No way.

Under new management. Current owner has a lot of experience in the industry. Had an excellent burger. Bun, beef and garnishes were fresh. Great beer selection and everything is spotless. The server was charming and attentive. Well positioned TVs and two pool tables. It is better than ever..

I been coming here for the great food since my husband and I knew that this place was with a new owner!! And I love it!! The food is great and the drinks uff great too!! Love, love it!!

Came into the 49er Tavern & Grill because our kids' volleyball was delayed. Service was great and beer was ice cold! The newly renovated Tavern is awesome. Come visit Gary and Shelly soon!

Absolutely best burger I've had in years! Good atmosphere and good service. Lots of TV screens to watch a game and it's got a good location with free parking. I'd say try the burger if you want a really good juicy patty. And the brioche buns are made fresh daily.

At day it's a chill, casual, uncrowded and unpretentious place to drink a frosty beer, crack a few peanuts, play a game of pool or dominos, and eat a homemade burger, with your uncle's Pandora station in the background. It's like LBC's Joe Jost's little squirt brother with a touch of Knott's Ghost Town. At night... well, it's like getting a Gremlin wet.

Not the worst dive bar. The beer selection is great and prices are very reasonable. Food is a bit overpriced. Could be better, maybe more seasoning on the burgers. Pool table is fun and I love the outdoor seating on a summer night.

Great casual atmosphere! If you're looking for a casual dive bar - after getting a mani/pedi at Sunny Nails - this is the perfect place! They have a Yelp check in offer - 10% off your purchase of $25.00. Besides drinking a bunch of wine, we also tried some of their pub fare. Pickled eggs are only $1.00 each (although my picture looks like a nuclear accident, it was actually good!) Also good were the Carne Asada Nachos ($10.25) and the Tator Tots with cheese and bacon ($3.50). They don't actually have a kitchen the dude said, they're making everything on a grill out back. But they do a pretty fine job of it!

My friends and I love this place. I've been tossing cold ones back here for over 20yrs. The new owners really turned this place up a few notches though. Same neighborhood feel, same delicious burgers and food period, awesome live bands, TV's inside and outside, free pool, and the owners and bartenders always make you feel at home. As I first walk in it was just good vibes I can feel it bar tender ask me so what would it be so I said a beer and a burger Best so I got to beer good n cold yes how I like it then burger came took a bite felt like heaven I'd be coming here more often

When I stopped by on 8/20/2018, the place is unceremoniously shuttered. The sign says "Closed", but offers no explanation and when it might be open again.

49r has reopened on 09/21 under new ownership after 5 months so all of the former bashing of the prior owner and business itself is unwarranted and should be disregarded. I start with a 4 because while I don't plan to go in until Saturday, I've poked my head inside enough to see the new owner John working his ass off readying the 49r for what will hopefully be a long and prosperous business venture. This place smells worse than any dive bar actually should. It's right across the street from the Long Beach state, yet is completely empty on a Thursday. The bartender is some chunky blonde girl who could not even pretend to display any kind of professionalism if she tried. She was talking to some customer for 5 minutes before she finally asked us what we wanted. The entire time she looked at me like she had no idea why I was even there. I hope this place closes so a new one could pop up, it's got a great location but it's a terrible bar. If I could give it a negative star I would.
