Fairly new addition to the 5 Points area of East Nashville. It is located right on Woodland Street, next to 5 Points Pizza and features a good sized bar, walls lined with booths and tables, a front made of massive windows that open all the way and enough TV's to be considered a sports bar. To be honest, trying to figure out the identity of 5 Points Diner is tough. I know they are new, so maybe they are still figuring it out themselves.
We came by on a Saturday afternoon in search of a spot to watch college football and we luckily found it here at 5 Points. They were serving brunch and had a limited gameday menu that featured a few classics such as a hot dog, burger, chicken tenders, etc...and of course it came with a specialty cocktail and drink menu. We were there for a long haul so we started with drinks and worked our way through the menu.
Drink wise we got draft beers, High Noons, margaritas and eventually shots.
On the flip side, for food we had the fried pickles, pretzel sticks, a couple of burgers and the chicken tenders. Fried pickles were hot, crispy and served with a solid ranch dip. The chicken tenders were clearly bagged frozen chicken, but were good sized and friend well. The burgers were smash burger style and came with only 1 patty, which is odd for a smash burger as the meat to bread/topping ratio gets way off. However, I will say that this smash burger was actually decent, but it still could have been better with another patty and a little more seasoning. All the mains were served with fries, which for the two menus offered were the only side available. The fries were well salted and fried perfectly crispy. I am normally not a big fry guy, but these were solid taters!
Service was meh. Our waiter was hit and miss, but mainly miss. He would visit our table every 30 minutes or so...basically stopping to check to on 1 out of every 15 times he actually walked by our table. Majority of the time we had to search him out or stop him as he walked by. He was nice, but not very effective.
The crowd was great for the game today, so it was nice to see the locals, especially the gay crowd, find another spot in East Nashville that feels safe and like home to watch and ultimately celebrate their teams!
Overall, we definitely want to come and check 5 Points Diner out at other times outside of a game day!
