Where to Drink Coffee on Seattle’s Eastside | Eater Seattle

"This Redmond treasure partners with a variety of charitable organizations and sources its high-quality beans from local roasters who work directly with sustainable growers across the globe. The cafe also serves decadent brunch options on the weekends, including biscuits and gravy and a croissant-waffle hybrid called the “cruffle.”" - Maggy Lehmicke

Updated review Sept: Very loud today. Not always but could barely hear the order over the chatter inside. They did have a group that just arrived making my order 20+ minutes which does happen and dont fault them for that but the noise component was rediculous and compounded from the choice of building materials and design for the space in such a small area. Wish I had one of those stadium noise meters they use at football games cause I think it would have been interesting to see. The coffee was fine just delayed quite a bit. Updated review: I frequent a number of coffee shops and this place is routinely giving me my mocha at a warm but not hot temperature and often I end up microwaving it to get the temperature up. Im not sure if its their machine or the staff in how they do it but its consistently not as hot as starbucks or other places. Other than that, I enjoy the flavor of the mocha. Past review: First timer here. Tried the lemon/berry scone and was fresh and good. Also had a mocha and very much liked the balance flavor of coffee to chocolate. I can be pretty tough on my mochas and this one suits me well. The service was very friendly and timely. It was fairly busy with seating near capacity. The atmosphere could be better and seating area more inviting would be my only complaint but they're doing as much as they can with the space. Really wish we had some nice options like this for coffee with good spaces located along the trail nearby to enjoy the river slough. If enough people comment with redmonďs planning of comp plan that can be a reality and perhaps a business like this could step up to advocate for it. All in all good place for coffee but parking can be challenging at times.

Their coffee and pastries are soooo good, and I'm super finicky about that. They make the absolute best cappuccinos. Their kouin amann pastry is my favorite- its the perfect combo of soft and doughy with a nice crisp crunch and sweet sticky glaze. The rewards are generous, every few coffees I'm able to get a free one. This place gets pretty busy so wait times are long. As long as they're friendly and doing their best I can't complain.

Lily A

Google
They only accept debit/credit but no sign out front so you only find out when you are ordering. It is a long wait time, there are two people making the coffees but one of them is mainly focused on the coffee pour overs which leaves most of the orders on the other person. Also, the order taking is on the left side which meant the overflow of customers waiting for coffee was on the right side, blocking the washroom and access to the lids, sugar, milk, etc. Overall wait time was approx. 15 mins for two coffees, pour over and mocha. Tastes good but not $12-good.

Really great staff and atmosphere! Usually not that hard to find seating, especially on weekdays. Great Wi-Fi and access to outlets. Sometimes need to walk for parking but sometimes street is available Just needs some dusting! Dust and cobwebs are definitely noticeable on the ceiling, lighting, and bathroom.

Google
Cozy ambience with friendly and patient staff, and great coffee! Tried the pour over filter coffees and really liked the Guatemala Washed blend! The Brazil Anaerobic tasted so unique and was surely worth a try too. Was recommended this place and would rate it as a great place overall for coffee anytime of the day, with breakfast / brunch / afternoon tea friendly pastries and food options as well 🥰 i’m glad we gave this recommendation a try!

Google
Crazy enough, the drinks here are well made. No complaints there. However, the entire coffee shop needs are good scrub down. Dusty, sticky, cobwebs in the corners, and a bathroom in which I'm afraid to touch anything. It feels like the owners probably aren't around much.

Google
By far my favorite coffee shop! Five Stones has the best coffee around, and the staff are always friendly (sometimes they even draw smiles and hearts on my cup, which always makes my day a bit brighter). It can get very busy, especially on the weekends, but it's worth the wait!

Google
4.5 Stars. I have a high bar for cafe reviews - so on the positive side, I liked the food, atmosphere, and service today. Latte art was good, which is not always the case in the Seattle area. This is Redmond, so perhaps that explains the higher quality. There was a lot of movement and chatter behind the counter, but it was in good spirits (the employees seem to be friends). Lots of seating and tables for doing work or studying. Clean environment. I also was greatly heartened to see an American flag on the wall. This lifted my spirits greatly and made me feel at home. In Seattle city, in cafes and many restaurants, one sees flags of various rainbow hues and chromatic divisions. Although rainbow flags in the zeitgeist of our time purport to represent "inclusion", I contend (with all due respect), that rainbow flag actually point out our divisions. I like rainbows in the sky caused by moisture and sunlight. Atmospheric rainbows are wonderful. Pots of gold are often at the end of them. But flags ... flags are symbolic and the only symbol I want to see on a daily basis here in America is the American flag and the flag of the state of which I am in. The American flag is the only true flag of unity and inclusion. "And for the republic for which it stands ... liberty and justice for all...." that's the pledge of allegiance I grew up with in 1984... no rainbows ... no divisions ... unity under red and white stripes and crystal stars on field of brilliant blue. I don't even own an American flag. I have no clothes with flag patterns on them. It's just good to see it raised proudly in an establishment.

Yelp
The owner of Five Stones, Jacob, was incredibly prompt and generous in his effort to make my poor experience a good one. I in no way sought to get any thing in return for my review, I simply wanted to let management know what happened. It was incredibly clear within just hours of writing my review that not only is management aware of the situation but is and has been taking active steps to improve their service. It's also clear that they care deeply. My interaction with Jacob was so positive that I will absolutely return. Thanks again for your help. See y'all soon!

Yelp
Very good cafe stefano. The orange zest I believe stands out in the drink and it doesn't taste too sweet. This location also does good latte art and the vibe feels very cozy inside with a lot of good seating to catch up with a friend or work inside. Service is standard, but this location is head and shoulders above their other location in Kirkland in my opinion.

Yelp
As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the friendly staff. I ordered the Iced Maple and only waited a few minutes for my drink. This was my second visit to the Redmond location, and I've noticed the drinks and quality can be a bit inconsistent. The Iced Maple was extremely sweet and left a lingering aftertaste that I didn't enjoy. I would have preferred a more balanced flavor.

Yelp
A neighborhood coffee shop in Redmond, this spot has a moderate amount of seating perfect to do some work while enjoying some coffee. This is a coffee shop with some specialty drinks, drinks beyond the standard latte, etc. I got the Cafe Stefano which is a latte with hazelnut syrup and Ceylon cinnamon, finished with a spritz of orange for an added citrus flavor. It is fairly flavorful and delicious - all the flavors combined well. The latte art was perfect. It was great that I found a spot to do some work, as it was quite busy. There is good WiFi but limited outlets. Overall, great coffee spot in a good location.

Yelp
I come here often and I'll say this the service is hit and miss it may be good and maybe not so I usually don't go because once I get really crappy service from them so I don't go at all, but they got good sandwiches and hot chocolate and a really amazing granola bowl Which is very delicious but anything anything else just the service just really sucks to me
google avatar

Yelp
I came here around 7am for some breakfast and I got the avocado toast with lemon on the side and it was so good!! Along with the 8 oz hot matcha latte I got was the perfect amount of sweetness and matcha. My sister also got an avocado toast and tea, our total was $34 which is not bad for two people! Service was amazing and the food came out at a decent time. The ambiance is nice, they play music in the background. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Honestly the best most consistent cappuccino brèves ever! Love the team of Baristas here, great service! Love the ambiance, get a lot of work done here! My favorite is their walnut honey cream cheese toast!
google avatar

Lily P.

Yelp
Had the cafe stefano and it was so yummy! Could be a bit sweet for some, i think next time i might ask for a little less sweetener, but the flavors were great. It was also quite busy on a saturday afternoon. We came to do some laptop work and there were no tables when we got there, but were lucky enough for a couple people at the bar table to leave. Love that they have dine-in cups for coffee!!

Mackenzie P.

Yelp
Five Stones is my go to coffee joint. All their house drinks are delicious. This is the place I'll stop by to show friends in town a taste of WA's awesome coffee scene! The service is always incredible and cheery :) Place is clean and perfect to chat at or work
google avatar

Yelp
Quick service delivered with a smile. The online menu didn't mention that they have a full case of various breads and pastries so that was a bit of a surprise. Opted for a Nutella cruffin which was delicious though with the Nutella in the center most bites were just plain cruffin. Still had a good buttery flavor so no complaints there. The latte was decent but it could have been stronger so I would go for a 3rd shot of espresso next time.
google avatar

Karthik R.

Yelp
Their Nutella coffe is one of the best I have tried. They have a friend staff and always go above and beyond to help
google avatar

Kelsey G.

Yelp
Yummy coffee! I really enjoyed the Stefano, nice and creamy and natural tasting flavors. It might be one of my favorite coffee flavors because I haven't had anything like it. The Missile was alright, a unique flavor but didn't taste too much like maple like I thought it would. Lovely ambiance to work in if you're in the area!
google avatar

Vy M.

Yelp
Service and coffee are both great! Came here to do some work because they have free wifi, which was strong and worked well. I got a mocha and it was made perfectly, with a nice touch of latte art as well. The seating area is large with plenty of seating, but I didn't like that the music was too loud, so don't expect to be able to take a professional meeting here. Another thing to note - this seems to be linked to a church because they were playing Christian pop the entire time I was there, and I also saw posters for church in the bathroom. The workers don't push anything on you, but forewarning for anyone who may feel uncomfortable with this.
google avatar

Brigid C.

Yelp
I'm not too sure about this place, because all the seats are always full with people quietly working/studying. I've lived in Redmond for a while now, and I've never gotten a seat at this place. I like the drinks, though, and I like the half off day old pastries. It seemed like there were lots of regulars; the baristas would know some people's drinks before the customers said anything. I wish I could really get a vibe of this place, but I guess I'd have to secure a spot first thing in the morning or something.
google avatar

Jacqueline N.

Yelp
This is easily the best coffee shop I've found in the greater Seattle area. The ambiance is perfect for working, and I appreciate the extra touch of serving dine-in coffee in ceramic cups instead of paper. I've sat and worked here myself many times. There isn't that much seating inside but I've always been able to find a spot after a few minutes. I highly recommend the Café Stefano. Though I'd love to try other drinks, I keep coming back to this signature option--the hint of orange zest shines through beautifully. If you've never had orange in your coffee, give it a try! You might be pleasantly surprised. The service here is consistently great, though street parking can be tricky in this busy area. There's often a bit of a line, so if you're in a rush, ordering online is a convenient option.
google avatar

Isabella H.

Yelp
Intimate and laidback ambiance, nice place to work or study but there are limited outlets and it can become decently loud inside. Quick service, coffee came out efficiently. Cafe Stefano was delicious! My favorite from here. Espresso was pulled perfectly and it was a super balanced drink with the syrups and citrus flavor! I've been back before and I'll be back again
google avatar

Johanna B.

Yelp
Love at first sip! Stoped in here for a quick snack and drinks. I think a sign that the espresso will be good is if they serve it with a glass of sparkling water. My husband puts the espresso at the top of his list of favorites. He had a cookie dough croissant that he said was good but very sweet. I had a maple scone and hot Assam tea. Both were excellent. If we find ourselves in the area again we will definitely stop here. I would love to try more things on the menu. It is bustling with lots of young people. I get the feeling everyone is highly educated. It is lively and feels great sitting in here with lots of chatty people.
google avatar

Kristin C.

Yelp
Excellent coffee!!!! A little difficult to find parking since it's just street parking and usually full, but we parked in a lot across the street and ran in and out and watched our car and were fine 2 days in a row. The coffee is strong, just how we like it, service is friendly and fast, and they have a variety of pastries (homemade), work space (free WiFi) and outdoor seating as well. Make sure to visit this great coffee cafe!

Yelp
Five Stones is my go-to coffee shop for meeting up with friends! It's the Goldilocks of meetup spots: not too noisy, not too quiet, but just right. There are always plenty of seats when I go in the mornings, but around 8:30/9:00 it starts getting busier. Even tho I go here pretty often, they have seasonal drinks, so there's always something new to try. Admittedly, parking's a bit rough, but I'll usually find somewhere within a drive or two around the block. It's also really close to the library -- perfect for a book lover's afternoon!

Belal R.

Yelp
Best coffee in redmond area. Cafe stefano and cappucino freddo are both something i'd recommend.

Connie M.

Yelp
Coffee brilliant! Snickerdoodle brilliant! Staff brilliant! Atmosphere welcoming. Cortado was delicious. The mocha was hot and tasty.
google avatar

Nom Nom De Plume Z.

Yelp
Not the best chai. It's a syrup with more flavor than Oregon Chai but uncontrollably sweet. To put it into perspective, my favorite chais are Morning Glory and Traveller's Masala.
google avatar

Kumar V.

Yelp
I don't think there's a better coffee place than 5 Stones in the Redmond area. Their Hazelnut Mocha and Hazelnut Latte both are delicious. This is the first time I tried Kouign-amann. I enjoyed every morsel of it - definitely an amazing pastry. My only regret is that they couldn't warm it up given the closing time. I believe it might be a seasonal thing and it may not always be available. The place has a good sitting area and I always see people coming here and working.Good environment to work. After all what's better than slurping the best coffee in town and working.

Noah B.

Yelp
Visited over the weekend and we loved this place! Good service and location. The iced Mocha Bacio was fantastic.
google avatar

Sri Sneha G.

Yelp
Nice place to grab a coffee from. The ambiance is great but definitely crowded and crammed if you want to work or stay there for a while.

Yifei L.

Yelp
Classic choice: latte. Absolutely worth the price . Also the workers here are very nice and patient.
google avatar

Katie P.

Yelp
My favorite coffee shop in Redmond! There's a wide selection of drinks, pastries and options to buy beans if you'd like to make your own beverages. Some of my favorite drinks include the white chocolate mocha, lavender latte and harvest latte (their take on the pumpkin spice latte) This would be a cute place to get work done, but seating is pretty limited and it's pretty bustling from the moment they open. Located by the transit center, this is the perfect place to stop and grab a drink before your commute. It's on the pricier side, but not terribly egregious by today's standards. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Justin L.

Yelp
I wish I could give this place a 6 star if I could Came here for the first time and stopped in around 4:45pm on a Wednesday , it was packed with people on the inside. I needed a quick energy replenishment after work, I got the Coco Vanmint and holy smokes this coffee is amazing. I've been a huge advocate for coffee, been trying to find a place that can compete against Philz coffee for their mint mojito coffee, I no longer have to fly down to San Francisco to drink a GREAT CUP of Coco Vanmint. *Unfortunately you won't see it on the board, it's on the paper menu tho The baristas were super friendly and I had a great chat with them. They made a huge difference for my 1st time experience with Five Stone and I will definitely come back this weekend to purchase one of the bottles to support further in this business.
google avatar

Gina H.

Yelp
I am a huge fan of local coffee shops and I am glad I stop by to try it. Got the mocha bacio with oatmilk which was so smooth and velvety. I am definitely coming back to try other items.
google avatar

Dawn F.

Yelp
If you love dogs, coffee, and pastries then you need to come here for breakfast. Especially on a sunny summer Saturday morning. So many friendly dogs and the coffee and food was good too. Highly recommend the sticky bun (maybe with a not too sweet coffee). It was quite busy so expect to wait in line, but it's worth it. Would come again next time we visit Redmond
google avatar

Nicole C.

Yelp
Cozy cafe offering delicious pastries, breakfast toast, breakfast sandwiches, teas & coffee. I tried the Lemon Cruffin, avocado toast with cream cheese, and a matcha latte. Everything tasted great and service was delightful too.
google avatar

Catherine B.

Yelp
Love five stones! The toast is amazing, a must have every time I stop in! Workers are so friendly and welcoming! The atmosphere has lots of natural light and offers a great study space!

Allie R.

Yelp
Ugh, this was so bad and I'm so disappointed. I ordered a 12oz iced matcha latte with hazelnut syrup and almond milk. The matcha was super grainy (you could see specks of matcha, so it wasn't whisked properly). I couldn't taste any of the hazelnut. And the milk overpowered the entire drink - it tasted like the shelf stable almond milk that comes in the non-refridgerated containers, super artificial and tasted like preservatives. Not sure what they used but it was just awful!! They also made the drink too hot, so when they poured it over ice, it melted within 5 mins and completely diluted the drink. I hate wasting food but I had to throw out a quarter of the drink because I just couldn't finish it. My friend ordered a decaf latte and she said it was just fine, nothing special, but not bad at all. I ordered close to closing time and also forgot to ask for almond milk until after I paid...I'm not sure if that would have affected the quality of my drink, because I did ask the barista to ring me up again, but she said it was fine. I hate leaving such negative reviews but I just had a really poor experience. If you go here, don't get the matcha, try the coffee instead.

Morgan G.

Yelp
Five Stones became my post work third place. Then... it slowly slid downhill. The coffee had always been good. The pastries are fantastic. The fresh prep is great. At some point in the last year or so, they changed up their baristas. Something about training up another location. Since then the service hasn't been the same. Then the most recent change has me... simply not able to be a patron anymore except on the rare day I'm off work early as they changed their schedule to no longer close at 6pm, going instead to an early close during the winter. While I realize that the shorter days have led to less foot traffic from the transit center, it now means that there are no coffee shops in that part of Redmond that are open past 5, which just puts the area at a disadvantage.
google avatar

Stan L.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time as I had time to kill before an appointment nearby. I'm big on chai latte and can be picky so when I saw the great reviews here for their chai latte, I had to try for myself. It's actually very good. I got the spicy chai latte with oatmilk and it's very tasty and the spice isn't overwhelming. I don't eat a lot of spicy food, but this I can handle. It has just the right amount of kick to get you started in your morning. Highly recommend it if you are looking to enjoy a good chai latte.

Jim F.

Yelp
My mocha was OK. Service was slow. I had to put the lid on the go cup. They had stacks of water bottles and other products sitting on the floor in front of the counter. All seating was occupied at 11 am.
google avatar

Victoria L.

Yelp
Who keeps rating 5 stars?! I used to love coming here with friends back when I was in college but now, it has an entirely different vibe and ambiance. On weekends, it seems to be run by a group of high school teens who seem to be fond of chatting in the back instead of working. All my high school friends who I connect with when I'm back home say the same thing about this place. And it seems other yelp reviewers have noticed this as well... anyways, I came in and ordered, waited at the bar for around 10 min (no other customers in front or behind me in line) before someone finally came out from the back and asked if I got my drink yet? Like no, I'm standing here staring at you -- learn to read the room! It's just so unfortunate because I love the mocha baccio and this used to be my favorite coffee spot in Redmond. I don't think I come off as unfriendly either and I always tip whatever the automatic setting is... The older crew seems to work on the weekdays (mornings I think), are far more efficient and friendlier so I would recommend coming in then! Or try the bellevue location -- I've had great experiences there!
google avatar

Michelle K.

Yelp
They have THE best s'more tart. My fiancé brought me one back to California when he first came to Redmond for work. It looked so delicious that I didn't want to eat it, and it ended up just sitting at home to be looked at for five days until I finally tried it; and let me tell you.. it was STILL good! When I came to Redmond myself, I knew I just had to stop by for my favorite s'more tart. I came here twice during my stay in Redmond and I'm sad that I couldn't come by more. I tried the Cafe Stefano hot and it was perfectly balanced. The second time I tried the Mocha Bacio which was recommended by the cashier.. I'm not much of a fan of chocolate but this drink was also very tasty. As for treats, I got the s'more tart and the lemon cruffin. The cruffins are super soft and flaky. If you are ever in the area or somewhat nearby, Five Stones Coffee is a must!
google avatar

Veramay N.

Yelp
Friendly staff. Fantastic Coffee. Cute place. Ordered maple latte and pistachio matcha. Both 10/10. Always consistent which makes them 5 stars. You expect the same as the last visit and that's what you get. It's a "never fails me" type of place.

Alex F.

Yelp
I got the hot Stefano and it was scrumptious. The subtle orange flavor was awesome, and the staff was friendly. Thanks for brightening my day!
google avatar

Julci A.

Yelp
Best coffee in redmond, and perhaps the best pastries (up next to Farine). I love getting their flavored lattes, from the cafe stefano, to the mocha bacio, to my new favorite, the coco van mint. All are delicious, but also quite sweet, so I get them all 1/2 sweet. The avocado with cream cheese and lemon is also great, and I like to add salt and pepper as well and it's a delicious meal/snack. My only qualm is with the space. It's a very popular spot, so it gets very crowded, and they don't have enough room. The seats also lack outlets so it's difficult for studying/doing work. The Bellevue and Kirkland locations are slightly bigger and those have been better for doing work.
google avatar

Joshua B.

Yelp
Amazing service, fabulous coffee and a great location. There aren't many exceptional coffee shops, but 5 stones is one of them.
google avatar

Ting A.

Yelp
Tried out this coffee house early morning on a Saturday and came back again the next morning. It is convenient to have a decent café around Downtown Redmond to open at 7 AM compared to 8 AM like most other ones. I liked both the signature and seasonal drinks that I tried. - Cafe Stefano ($6.15 for 12oz) - Brown Sugar Lemon Latte ($6.15 for 12oz) Pastries were rather standard, but good enough to pair with the drink. Select pastries can be toasted to warm up. - Nutella Cruffin ($5) - Raspberry Cruffin ($5) - Raspberry Streusel Danish ($5.50) The shop is near the Redmond Transit Center and is a relaxing place to spend the beginning of the day. Guest Wi-Fi is available.
google avatar

Jillian L.

Yelp
I was first drawn to this coffee shop because of its colors(the blues are really pretty!) and pastry selection. Everything in the case looked so good, I'm going to have to come back until I've tasted them all... I got the morning roll and a latte. It was super busy inside, but I got my coffee quickly and found seating to enjoy my order.
google avatar

Brittany L.

Yelp
Conveniently located in DT Redmond for a quick coffee run. I didn't find a thing particularly special about their coffee (I got their Stefano). For anyone who's a digital nomad, there seems to be enough space inside to work and park your laptop.
google avatar

Tinna Y.

Yelp
Since I'm traveling, instead of the usual latte, the staff recommended cafe Stefano. It's a bit of chocolate and a hint of orangey. Sounds interesting?! I was a bit skeptical, but as soon as I took the first sip, I can taste everything ingredients and it doesn't gross! This place is not only chic, but they do know their coffee!
google avatar

Aparajita S.

Yelp
I needed a quick pick me up after brunch so my friend suggested to come by here for the caffeine fix. I'm not a huge coffee fan so I liked that they had chai and it came in two options - sweet or spicy. I chose the spicy one and absolutely loved it! It was a little sweet when starting off but towards the end, you could totally taste the spice. They also have some bakery items and plenty of coffee options. Definitely check this place out!

Abbie D.

Yelp
My husband likes this place, but for whatever reason they don't even acknowledge me when I go in. It wasn't busy and we were the only two people at the counter. I left without ordering because I'm not going to beg anywhere to take my money. I won't be back.
google avatar

Yelp
It is time to update that stale review! We come here quite often although we have to drive in from Sammamish. Coffee is fantastic and so are the baked goods, many of which are made in-house. Friendly service as well. We only drink brewed coffee so can't speak to any of the specialty coffee drinks.
