Yafa Cafe, Born in Sunset Park, Is Opening Two New Locations | Eater NY

"In Downtown Brooklyn, Yafa won a bid to open a takeout window inside the residential building at 505 State Street and Flatbush Avenue—billed as “New York’s first all-electric skyscraper”—beating out larger chain coffee shops; that takeout window is slated to open this July, and the same development group is involved with a nearby building that houses the Khalil Gibran school where Yafa has trained students." - Emma Orlow

I recently moved out of 505 and I just want to say how much I appreciated living there. The front desk staff was always incredibly friendly and helpful—they truly made it feel like home. The maintenance team was just as great: quick to respond, professional, and always made sure the amenities were well-maintained and running smoothly. Also, big kudos to the management team. They were communicative, respectful, and genuinely seemed to care about the residents’ experience. Overall, a well-run building with a great team behind it. Highly recommend!

Been living here for almost a year. Best service from the greatest team that makes our day. Big shout out to three of the super stars from the staff. Hector who brings the smile to all the resident every day warms each and everyone of our heart. Robert who always help out with the fastest package scanning. He remembers all of us and make sure to say hi and ask about our days. Alfonso who knows inside and out of entire building. Greatest service top notch They are the reason such building can bring the best to the entire community. Thank you for being the best.

Alfonso is a great resident manager! He is personable, conscientious, and communicative. I am grateful for how quickly he has addressed the issues I have had with my unit and it's clear that he is always working hard to keep things running smoothly in the building.

The staff are great in fact they are amazing (shout out to people like James, Reyes and Alphonzo), however we’ve had a tough time with management on some occasions. There are some weird fees to reserve spaces and overall the amenities are overpriced. I used to live in VIA57 (amenities there were levels above) and their fees were half of 505 with no reservation fees above the monthly amenity fee. The developer is actively engaging with the community but I think they need to revisit the management and take ownership of it. Also please check the floor plan dimensions and the actual unit dimensions. Kudos to the developer for pushing to develop the first all electric building in NYC all while doing it in a way that’s aesthetically appealing. Lower floors on the Flatbush side are very noisy and receive little to no direct sunlight. I would recommend to avoid them as it affected my sleep. (Not a light sleeper) Being a new build the units are smaller and you’re really paying for a lifestyle product. I will miss living here only because of the friends we’ve made and not the building/unit.

As a tenant, I’m extremely disappointed with the upkeep of this building. The trash chute has a constant, unbearable odor that completely ruins the impression of what is supposed to be a high-end property. I had guests over recently, and they were shocked at how bad it smelled. This issue reflects very poorly on management and needs to be addressed immediately.

Units are great, staff especially Rob and Torre are awesome, gym is huge and usually pretty empty. What ruins everything is the elevator wait times. It often takes 7-8 minutes to leave your unit and get out of the building. My personal best so far is 12 mins when there was a single elevator servicing 30 floors - people were getting in on the way up just to go down! It’s such a negative it ruins the many, many positives and will probably be the sole reason I move out at the end of my lease.

Front desk and management have always been very friendly, caring and responsive! Amenities are amazing and building is well maintained with great events and building app. Only issue I’ve had is my apartment is on a lower floor and faces the main road- lot of noise from sirens, loud music from street fairs etc. Can also feel subway sometimes under the building. Choose higher floor if possible

I've been living in the building since October 2024 and loving it! It's a beautiful building with inspiring amenity spaces. The gym is fully-loaded and looks better than most Equinox locations, which don't come with a peaceful garden room landscaped to perfection and a chic co-working space. Don't forget BBQ'ing on the 42nd floor cabanas with stunning views of the bay and city. Building staff is great, helpful, and always available. Maybe most importantly, it feels like a community — everyone I've met is super friendly.
