Boston Restaurant Closings, Winter 2022 | Eater Boston

"A Fields Corner restaurant that combined Southern soul food and Asian flavors, it opened after a long build-up in February 2020 just weeks before the initial COVID shutdown. Founded by chef-owner Anthony Caldwell — who transitioned from private chef and caterer after crowdfunding and a local pitch win — the spot prioritized community work, from donating leftovers to shelters and mentoring youth to hiring local residents. Caldwell has spoken openly about learning to cook during a period of incarceration and about his recovery from alcohol addiction, which inspired the restaurant’s name. The team announced a planned closure on social media, framing it as the end of a chapter rather than the end of their story." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

Best Desserts in Dorchester | Eater Boston

"An alum of the Commonwealth Kitchen small-business incubator, 50Kitchen fuses Southern fare with Asian influences, like chef Anthony Caldwell’s jambalaya egg rolls and sides of kimchi mixed with collard greens. With only three options — a banana egg roll, an Oreo parfait, and a strawberry shortcake parfait — the dessert menu is short and sweet. Be sure to savor the banana egg roll as it nails the spot’s fusion focus. 50Kitchen is open for limited indoor dining, takeout via Toast, and delivery via Grubhub." - Nathan Tavares

Mass. Restaurants Probably Shouldn’t Reopen in May (and Probably Won’t) | Eater Boston

"Opened in late February in Dorchester, this small 19-seat restaurant was forced to pivot to limited takeout and delivery with a skeleton crew; the owner says those operations cannot cover long-term expenses, loan deferments are finite, and reopening under capacity caps might allow only about six diners—making return-to-dine-in potentially unviable. The operator has criticized third-party delivery apps as extracting revenue from already thin margins and warned that he will not risk his life to keep the business afloat." - Terrence Doyle

We drove well over an hour to try the St. Louis rib box with the honey fried cornbread. My wife had the 50chicken. We are not exaggerating when we tell you that this is best in class five star food. Get up off your couch and come try some of the best food you will ever have in North Carolina. Straight BUSSIN!!!!

50Kitchen was at a festival called BLISS BOOGIE in Raleigh last week and I am STILL thinking about their Quinoa Bowl!!! It was to die for y'all!! I ate it mostly with my eyes closed, lol. I live in Charlotte, otherwise I would be eating her a few times per week. In my experience, events don't usually have food trucks that are THIS GOOD!! Love the healthy choices - a priority to me. Thank you for being delicious!

I went back and ordered more!!!! From the first bite to the final crumb, 50Kitchen delivered an unforgettable culinary experience at the Winston-Salem event. Their creative fusion of Southern comfort and bold flavor was on full display—and truly something special. I had the pleasure of trying the St. Louis Rib Box, featuring crispy fried ribs—a standout twist on a barbecue classic. These ribs were not only tender, with the meat falling off the bone effortlessly, but had a delightful texture that added a satisfying crunch with every bite. The accompanying honey cornbread was perfectly balanced: moist, subtly sweet, and an ideal complement to the smoky richness of the ribs. The Jambalaya Egg Rolls were another inspired addition to the menu—crispy on the outside, yet filled with layers of savory, spiced goodness on the inside. Paired with the Hot Honey Wings, which were equally fall-off-the-bone tender and glazed with just the right amount of sweet heat, every item was both thoughtfully crafted and boldly flavorful. Even the crispy French fries impressed—golden, well-seasoned, and served hot. Beyond the food, the experience was elevated by outstanding customer service. The team was friendly, welcoming, and clearly passionate about their craft. Their efficient use of text alerts to notify when orders were ready was a smart and appreciated touch, allowing guests to relax and enjoy the event without standing in line. Thank you to 50Kitchen for bringing your flavor, warmth, and innovation to Winston-Salem. Your visit introduced a new kind of rib—one with remarkable texture and taste—and left a lasting impression. We hope to see you back soon! ~Rachel

My wife and I just so happened to be visiting Durham, NC, and 50 Kitchen was in town on the same night. Let me start by saying the owners were awesome! Top tier customer service! And then the food was absolutely amazing! We were indulging blissfully, trying several different menu items. Definitely will return again and again!

Google
Hands down the best food truck. Not only are they the sweetest people, but they are the creators of the best cornbread. It’s exactly the type of comfort food you need after a long day at work. I would upload pics but it was so good I had to dig in immediately! 😊

Google
Loved this food truck!! They were located at the Tanger outlets on this particular Saturday. My mom went to order the 50Chicken Sandwich without honey sriracha sauce because she thought it would be too spicy, and the woman working offered to let my mom sample the sauce to ensure it was not too spicy. It ended up not being too spicy so we got the sandwich with the sauce. A1 customer service. Food came out hot and delicious. Definitely recommend.

Google
The food was really fresh and the taste was memorable. The 50K pulled pork sandwich was delicious. The Chinese 5 spice with the Asian pear slaw w/cilantro was so tasty. The Honey fried corn bread was 5 stars. A good blend of crumble and cake-like. Eat it warm was a real treat. The jambalaya egg roll with the sauce were really good. No pictures, everything was so good I ate all.😁

Google
50Kitchen has become a fast favorite, and we have visited every Saturday since they opened. The owners are an incredible, friendly, and welcoming family, and the food is truly among the best. We have tried almost everything on the current menu and have enjoyed all of it. If nothing else, the honey fried cornbread is a dangerously delicious treat and a must have. We will be back soon!

Yelp
So here's the thing, I really, really wanted to love this place. I follow several food content creators, one of which recommended this establishment. I had this on my wishlist for sometime. Due to timing and distance I hadn't tried previously. The restaurant is located in an unassuming community kitchen with ample parking and seating. The service was warm and inviting. I was immediately greeted and placed my order. Unfortunately, due to unexpected hiccups I had a longer than normal wait time (25 mins or so). The staff was very apologetic and offered to comp an item. I never received the comp, but no worries I appreciate the thought. I ordered the gumbo, rib plate, and cornbread as an appetizer. The gumbo was clearly the star of the show and worth the wait. While I'm not a gumbo aficionado, I found the roux to be complex and appropriately spiced, in both in spice and heat levels. What I didn't like and I would have increased the scoring from a 3 to a 4 was the okra. I'm a okra fan. So I'm guessing he included fried okra to account for non okra fans. The okra didn't travel well and I didn't particularly like. However, all the other elements were very tasty. The rib plate was pretty good. I guess they fried the ribs and sauce after? The sides were fine. I would be perfectly happy with traditional sides, but I appreciated the creativity. I definitely think this establishment is worth a try. Try it and see for yourself. Non traditional soul food: 3.9 Correction: refund processed and was received the next bank day.

Yelp
Went to 50Kitchen on a very dreary rainy Saturday and received a warm welcome from their staff. The food is carefully prepared and delicious. I had the Shrimp and Grits and it was perfect low country style. Their menu has various interesting dishes so I will definitely be returning.

Yelp
I'm not surprised there aren't any reviews yet, as this restaurant is only open Saturdays 12-8 right now, but holy cow, do try them out. Our family went last Saturday and the food was spectacular. Our boys got the chicken and waffle sliders w rosemary infused syrup and apple butter - they loved them. I got the 50K sandwich, which was so delicious I made everyone take a bite, had BBQ pork with Asian pear slaw and cilantro on an insanely yummy grilled brioche bun...heaven. The side of fries were crisp and hot. My husband really enjoyed the St. Louis ribs and the sides. All in all - outstanding. The couple that runs the places are super nice - we got complimentary honey fried cornbread, which my 12 year old said was the best cornbread he'd ever had, and I had to agree. The restaurant is in the pop-up space of the Blue Dogwood Public Market. I was afraid we would't find parking, but was pleasantly surprised to find several spots in a little lot right in front (back?) of the Market on Rosemary St. The current space is used by several new culinary ventures, and it's fun and funky. They are hoping to get their own site soon. Try them out now while there's no wait!

Yelp
Visited during the Pittsboro Street Fair today. We had an order of the Jambalaya Egg Rolls and they were out of this world delicious! The chef and crew working their booth were very friendly. I will definitely be visiting their space in Chapel Hill soon! Support your local businesses!
