The Ten Must-Eat Atlanta Sandwiches - Eater Atlanta

"Put quite simply, chef Justin Dixon and his sandwich shop Humble Mumble do not miss. The salad, the turkey stack, the seasonal chili? There’s too much to love about this OutKast-inspired sandwich joint. No wonder it keeps generating headlines in Atlanta. But the meatloaf melt, which includes bacon jam, pimento cheese, and 'fancy greens', is the standout at Humble Mumble." - Austin L. Ray

Yelp
Went to staplehouse for lunch to try the grinder sandwich, but ended up trying the pizza as well. We went on a Saturday and street parking was free. We ordered the grinder sandwich for $23 and a pesto and Jamon (ham) pizza for $35. The food came out within 15 minutes. The grinder sandwich was tasty! There were many flavors and textures. Overall, it had a strong garlic/pesto saucy flavor to me. I liked the crunch of the pickled carrots. It's a good sandwich for sure if you're a sandwich lover. The pizza we picked had no cheese layer or red sauce. It was smoked burrata with Jamon ham, and arugula with balsamic vinegrette on top, so it almost felt like a salad on top of the pizza. The pizza dough was thin and delicious, but they somehow get the crust thick and chewy. The flavor again was very pesto and balsamic vinegarette driven. It was well made and the arugula was very crunchy/fresh, but it's a personal size pizza for a steep price. Overall, we thought that the food was well made and good, but i don't see myself going out if my way to come here for a sandwich or pizza. One thing that surprised us was that they charge a 4% employee health insurance to their customers for their employees. It wasn't disclosed in advance, so we were surprised when we saw it on our receipt. I'm sharing just in case anyone has a budget to follow, as it is a surprise charge. This place is mainly self service, so you can get your own water and napkins. There's limited seating inside and an outdoor patio. It's casual inside with lots of plants and wine. Cool experience!

Yelp
Interesting dining experience! I think the restaurant/market, is a great concept, but the food prices are a bit much. I was a bit shocked at the price of the food when ordering. My family each ordered a pizza, while I ordered the hot chicken sandwich. The sandwich was fire! I don't typically indulge in chicken sandwiches, but I didn't really get excited by any other menu items. I was a bit disappointed by the fact the sandwich was $19, and it didn't come with a side item. That's highway robbery! Anyhow, I'm sure the locals in the area love this cute, hip restaurant, as it offers a chill vibe, good food and it has a Michelin star. The pizzas looked really good, but again, they were pricey and a bit small. The service was pretty good, the cashier was friendly and patient. Overall the restaurant had great food, a relaxed atmosphere and good service, so I highly recommend this spot.

Yelp
I've only been able to stop by staplehouse for lunch but it's been one of my favorite new discoveries of 2024! I really don't think you can go wrong in ordering here, everything I've had from them has been so delicious. I'm not usually a salad person but I could eat their caesar salad everyday -- I think it might be my favorite salad i've ever had. Their mexican hot chocolate cookie also feels so elevated with a subtle spicy kick that balances the sweetness so so well! Genuinely looking forward to when I get to go back here!

Yelp
An Atlanta must! If you are looking for a fun, casual but well done lunch, I absolutely recommend here. Their grinder sandwich is probably the best you can get. You order at the counter. And for dinner, this is really spectacular. Upscale, farm to table. Truly everything they serve is incredible. Vibes are immaculate, minimalism, modern inside. Servers know everything you could need to know.

Yelp
How someone gives this place lower than a five star is beyond me. As a fashion designer and filmmaker who moonlights as a chef (bread, sandwiches, sushi and pasta are my thing) this place left me in awe for the Italian grinder. So good I got two to go. The ambiance is intentional with an upscale cheers vibe meets speakeasy. The floor plan screams brilliance (minor in architecture so I hate terrible layouts. Kara (sp, was a gem to meet) and the flavor profile in this sandwich gave me the perfect food journey of the pickled veggies, cheese some melted and not, and the flawless texture of bread rise to meat ratio, "Jesus, son of Mary it was divine" ...so good I got two to go, one for my friend to share with his wife, and one to share with my wife. I booked the some day a chef tasting for my anniversary April 19th. This place is intentional and that sandwich is best I've hand including 30+ countries of travel. SALUTE.

Yelp
This review is for lunch. At some point we have to have a conversation about how gentrification is actually quite nonsensical. The hosts were very friendly/personable and the space itself is very inviting, but I would never go back simply based on price: The subs are $21 (no sides) and are a 5/10 at best, despite the higher quality/unconventional ingredients (that did not enhance the taste). I got the Grindr and honestly I have had better, cheaper subs that didn't have a mountain of sliced carrot and radish on it. It was really ordinary. The price is just downright shameful

Yelp
What a great surprise!!! From the moment you walk in you the smells of fresh baked good takes you over. Front bar is darling Place your order at the counter or from your table- Walk through the kitchen up a few stairs to a delightful indoor/outdoor seating- Staff was incredibly friendly and informative The food is fresh and excellent! Everything we ordered was exceptional We order one of each of the empanadas (turnovers) Pizza Meatball sub Jelly (Strawberry /ricotta) donuts Will return

Yelp
I've always been a fan of this restaurant! The atmosphere, the food, and the service are all the reasons to come check this place out!

Yelp
I always thought the food at Staplehouse was beyond my level of food appreciation. When I saw they had opened a market on Instagram, I felt like it was the perfect opportunity to try their food on a lower key level. And I did not regret! The market is split into a few sections, but I generally stick to the bakery and pastry display case and top it off with a coffee or a ginger ale. I do like that the heated covered patio is now open for dine-in and pups ARE allowed (well, at least I've brought my pup and they haven't said no lol) I've tried quite a few items now, including the chocolate non bons, a citrus tart, empanadas (steak & potato, cheesy onion), the focaccia, pork belly brioche, and beef cheek pie. All of the pastries are buttery, flakey and super meaty and flavorful. The meat filled pastries are heavier due to the buttery pastry but I need to try some of their menu items that aren't "pre-made" and "heated up" and have a true dine-in experience. But until then, I'm totally ok with stopping in for a quick bite of pastry or dessert!

Yelp
Staplehouse is a culinary experience and has one of the best patios in the city. Also the neighborhood is a vibe. I would recommend it to anyone looking to try something new.

Yelp
I was craving a Banh mi (not Bahn mi)...as spelled in the menu. Someone shared a photo of their sandwich so I was eager to get one; I really love headcheese but I didn't get any in my sandwich, all I had was a bunch of pate and with some radish, cucumbers, and cilantro. By the way, the radish should be pickled but it was just plain chopped raddish. The bread was excellent but the whole sandwich was terrible. There was no meat or jalapeno, though menu mentioned Pork terrine and jalapeno, the pate tasted sour and all of that for $21. You can get the traditional Vietnamese sandwich for $5 or $6...I didn't mind paying as long it was excellent. In addition, we bought the Alkaline noodles which was really good last time but now, it just tastes spicy...there's no salt, sweetness, or anything. I think my boyfriend really liked the Meatball hero but overall, it seems this visit was a bust. We aren't sure if we'll even comeback. It's sad it went from a really excellent restaurant to this...

Yelp
What a fun place to come when the weather is nice! They only have outdoor seating in the back. One portion is covered, so you could still eat in if the weather wasn't perfect. We came in on Sunday around 5pm. All the pizza was sold out sadly. We ordered the meatball hero, the broth and the potato macaire. You order drinks at the bar. They give you a number and they deliver the food to you when you find yourself a table. The food came out quickly. The meatball sub was incredible! It was big enough for us to split. The broth was not our favorite. The potatoes were so yummy! Overall such a fun place though! Would suggest for a chill date night

Yelp
When people ask me where to go close to our studio, I always recommend Staplehouse. Their food is delicious, cocktails well made, and the aesthetic is super cute. Their market selection is fun to look through and has some cool buys. We walk here often on sunny days and it never disappoints.

Yelp
Everything was good. The Italian grinder sandwich, the ham and cheese empanada, the steak & potatoes empanada, and the chocolate chip cookie were delicious. Customer service was excellent as well. If you choose to order more food while dining in, you can do so from your table and they bring it out toute suite!

Yelp
Put on your running shoes and run, do not walk, to Staplehouse. Today's lunch was one of the most sensational meals I've ever had. Pork tacos with salsa macha one a fresh made tortilla was awesome. 4 tacos was a nice portion and when I say fresh tortilla, I mean I watched the cook crank the masa through the press and place it on the griddle. Wow! The burrata salad was phenomenal and I'm quite full four hours later. Chef Ryan Smith is a great person and I'm a huge fan. Hours are limited so check in advance, but bring a friend (or many) and enjoy a fantastic meal.

Yelp
We were a party of 2 at 8:45 pm on Friday, March 6th. It's pretty casual. We were fine in jeans and a top, or jeans and a collared shirt. As the host walked us to the table, we stopped at the kitchen for our first bite. That was a nice touch! The staff explained every dish and beverage as it was served. They did their best, but we really didn't understand most of what they said. It's possible that we're just not sophisticated enough, in terms of our palettes and our knowledge of food and alcohol. It was $105 per person for the food tasting menu, and $85 per person for the beverage pairing. (The beverage pairing included beer, wine, sake, kombucha.) Add in tax and tip, and it came out to just under $500 for 2 people. For that much money, we expected to eat the best meal of our lives, and it just wasn't. For that reason, we probably won't be back. Our menu, including beverages, with our comments: - Uni, yuzu, chive - good - Chard, yeast - lacked good flavor, tasted like dried spinach - Duck slim jim - the dollops of jam were good - Carrot, roe - the puréed carrots were a little too salty, the roe gave it a nice pop - Foradori, Nosiola, Fontanasanta, Italy - good - King crab, radish - third best course we had - Sōtō, Sake, Junmai Daiginjo, Japan - very good, smooth - Striploin, bone marrow, truffle - first bite was a letdown, but got better as we ate it - Charles Ellner, Rosé, Brut, Champagne, France - bubbly - Broccoli, benne, yolk - second best course we had, the broccoli was well-seasoned and the yolk gave it a nice pizazz - The Veil Brewing Co., As I Am, Richmond, Virginia - tied with the sake for our favorite beverage, it was a wine-like beer, smooth and not very carbonated - Sturgeon, fennel, quinoa - well-prepared fish, not too fishy, the quinoa gave it a nice crunch - Albert Boxler, Riesling, Reserve, Alsace, France - fine - Chicken liver tart - very rich, tasted a little like blue cheese, we didn't really care for this one - Ben Ryé, Donnafugata, Sicily, Italy - good - Grandma Lillian's potato bread - very good, the spread was delicious - Aged duck, polenta, corn miso - favorite course of the night, very good flavors - Maître de Chai, Zinfandel, Clements Hill, California - good - Kombucha - fine - Sunflower, white chocolate - enjoyed the white chocolate - Cara cara, oat, bay - nothing special, the sorbet tasted like crushed up vitamins - Bordiga, Vermouth Bianco, Torino, Italy - fine - Beet, ginger - tasted like straight beets, really did not like this one - Shiitake chocolate - good We also checked out the Paper Crane Lounge upstairs. There's a beautiful story behind it. The colorful lights made for a great atmosphere. Definitely check it out! Fun experience, good service, good beverages, but food was a letdown.

Yelp
I'd say that this is was a perfect covid friendly brunching option! They have it set up like a market place where you enter and order your dishes/coffee etc! They have only outdoor seating in a patio in the back overlooking their little herb/veg garden. If you come as soon as they open you may have the whole space for yourself! The parking is only street parking unfortunately, but not terribly hard to find in the afternoon. They have quite a nice selection of wines as well for those interested. Fresh tarts and bonbons. The menu is $$ so easy to spend quite a bit quickly. Good thing is their portions are pretty filling, so you can always get one dish to try and share with another person.

Yelp
My friends have been telling me amazing things about Staplehouse. I finally decided to try their multi-course tasting menu for my boyfriend's birthday. This experience is offered Tuesday to Saturday evenings and requires a prepaid reservation for parties of 2-4, costing $105 per person. When you pay online, you will also have to pay for tax and a 20% tip (Hospitality Charge). Staplehouse opens their reservation online for the next month on the second Friday of every month at 12pm. When I tried to make a reservation exactly at 12pm when reservations were released, many of the prime dinner times on weekends were quickly taken. I ended up booking a reservation for Tuesday. Upon walking into the restaurant, I didn't really know what to expect. They sat us down and gave us a drink menu without explanation of what is to come. After ordering a glass of wine, the waiter asks if we are ready for dinner to get started. One by one, they brought each of the tasting menu dishes to our table with explanation of what the dish was. At the end of our meal, we were provided with with the menu of the night. During our tasting menu dishes, I found all the dishes very creative and unexpected. We started off with a crispy roll that had apples and caramelized yeast. Our second course was a rare ribeye, mixed with cashews, topped with thinly sliced turnip. My favorite dishes of the night were the crab, cobia, grandma Lillian's potato bread (with thyme butter), kombucha, and ginger cake dessert. A few of the dishes ended up being too salty, like the assorted mushroom with celery cream and cabbage. I really liked that all of the dishes had lots of protein and vegetables. This way we didn't fill up on carbohydrates, especially since there were a lot of dishes. Overall, my boyfriend and I really enjoyed our meals and all of the waiting staff were very courteous.

Yelp
My daughter purchased a gift certificate for us to come try their tasting menu. Wow, what an experience. The restaurant is in the old fourth ward; so was quite a drive for us, but this was such a unique experience, we are going to have to find a way to be in the area more. We did the traditional tasting menu and every single bite was amazing. Now next time, I will do the selected courses as it ended up being just way too much food for me...but you have to try the full experience at least once :). I have included pictures, and the menu card picture since each course is extremely detailed. The presentation of each plate is absolutely stunning. The service was absolutely fantastic. The entire meal was $350, so this is a budget buster, but it's worth every penny. We took a Lyft- so much cheaper than getting a DUI right? But there appeared to be valet parking Definitely a 'must do' for a birthday or anniversary. Reservations open up a month prior- and you do them via a special program they have, so take the time to go to their website and read the rules/process.

Yelp
I went and had lunch on a Saturday. Quite simply, I had the best "high-end" Cuban sandwich of my life here. I say high-end because it's just that- premium bread, roasted pork, ham, etc. vs, for example, Havana Sandwich Shop (which I love). I will most certainly be back sooner rather than later. The only thing I wish they would sell are side items-- a good potato salad, pasta salad, or cole slaw, etc.

Yelp
Wow what an amazing meal. It was like 3 hours long and worth every moment! I love that all the proceeds go to The Giving Tree so I really feel like I'm doing good while eating some of the best tasting food i've ever had. The meal felt like 100 courses, but was realistically only like 10. They were all small portions, like 1-3 bites each, but by the end I was feeling stuffed. The atmosphere was super cute as well. I've heard now during Covid they're seating people outside on the patio, which is absolutely darling! Highly recommend if you're looking to celebrate a special occasion while also supporting a local charity and our local F&B community.

Yelp
Wow. Just wow. This place is crazy good, but crazy expensive. Only come if you want to TREAT YOSELF! Or if you're celebrating. I came with a good friend. It's a preset menu, with about 10 or so courses. Service is excellent and they explain everything in it, which has a wide variety of ingredients. The food is excellent. The menu is constantly rotating and you don't actually choose anything (just alert them if you have food allergies), so I won't waste time writing about everything we got. However -- they definitely know food here. Ambiance is very nice as well. I would love to come back if my wallet would let me!

Yelp
Staplehouse market is now open, and it's super cute! Perfect place for a more casual date spot for a small bite or dessert - you can buy a bottle of wine/beer or get a drink from the bar, and order some tasty snacks and eat out on the socially distanced back patio. We wanted to check out the market so we strolled here for a light brunch. Ordered the crispy farm egg mushroom grain bowl and it was SO good. Also had a very delicious and beautiful citrus tart. And obviously had to try the bon bons. Everything was fantastic, and I look forward to returning to support such a charitable cause. Staplehouse proceeds go to the Giving Kitchen, which offers assistance to the Atlanta restaurant community suffering unexpected hardship. If you don't know the backstory to this restaurant, it will tug at your heartstrings. Highly recommend you check them out!

Charles S.

Yelp
One of our favorite lunch spots and excited to see they're starting some dinner again. The food is outstanding. Most seating is outside and about half is covered. We enjoy when the weather is nice. The menu changes often and we've always enjoyed our selections. Sometimes it's hard to choose so it's nice to go with a party of 4 and share plates. They have both traditional and creative fare - something for everyone.

Ed S.

Yelp
Received a wedding anniversary gift card to Staplehouse and went there once for some drinks pre-pandemic. Was fine. Still had a good amount of money on the gift card and went back to try and have dinner there and Management said they are no longer accepting the pre-pandemic gift cards. I asked whether that was technically legal - as I don't believe it is - and they said 'well we have it mentioned on our website that we're no longer accepting them' and they're 'still figuring it out' (more than two years later). They also said that the gift card liability is 'a good amount more' than $10k so we're definitely not the only ones being screwed over by the owners. Millionaires will run a 'down to earth', 'farm to table' $$$$ restaurant for the elite but not let you use the money already handed over in making it successful. Any attorneys out there?

Yelp
Great wine selection, super cool place. Our go to's are the steak and potato empanada's, Short rib sandwich, Cuban sandwich (when they have it), Meatball Hero, and Caesar Salad w/ Brisket

Yelp
I really want to like this place. Very creative concepts with food and some dishes were really great. There are some points of laziness that are difficult to come to terms with. We had the pea salad which was very tasty but bizarre as a concept. One of our favorite dishes until we came across a long gangly hair. I think it was mixed up in the massive amount of herbs in the dish but that's no good. The meat pie was ok. It tasted a little weird and a bit dry. Problem is the amount of egg shell busted in the crust. Huge lack of care. The liver plate was really good! The ceasar salad was outstanding and they have a great wine selection. The service was also really good. Overall I'm very torn. I will surely come back in the future. I am hesitant to be hopeful about the next experience

Yelp
The food and service here were spectacular. The significant other really out did himself. :) Make sure to make your reservations just as the window for appts opens up bc he said the slots go super quickly. If you order 4 to 5 dishes, this would be a good shareable amt bt two people: * Beef: My rec! The beef is raw though so order with caution. The golden beets wrapped around the tender beef was really good. The mushroom shoyu added a nice touch to this delectable dish. * Bay scallops: They're the miniature kind, but just as tasty. The walnut and satsuma were interesting additions. Satsuma is seaweed btw. :) There were def a good variety of colors, tastes, and textures with this choice. * Swordfish: The fish was under seasoned imo, but I suppose you can't add too much flavors since the dish itself had lots of textures and flavors. The African butternut went well with the swordfish along with the two diff sauces. I would say this is the most filling entree -- even though it barely filled the huge plate. * Chicken sausage: My least favorite but still good. I just thought the sausage had a bit of a sodium kick compared to the other dishes. The buckshorn was interesting as it added a semi bitter ish taste to the dish. Buckshorn is the green plant you see in my pic. The drip coffee here was pretty good (as the coffee snob fiance of mine commented). Parking is valet only unless you want to find street parking yourself... Though the valet guy did just park our car across the lot at the mom n pop garage looking building. And last but not least, I suppose if you went here for a bday or anniversary, they will give you a little notebook with the date you visited the restaurant. Just make sure you let them know the occasion. No free dessert here. ;)

Yelp
Oh my goodness. So much scrumptiousness to savor and the sunny back garden is a haven. Try the broccoli with farro and burrata, and pork tacos. Locally sourced ingredients in the house!

Yelp
I've been fortunate to make two visits to this James Beard winning establishment and at no point was I ever disappointed. I sat at the bar for the tasting menu both times. The service was impeccable and the bar tenders are extremely knowledgeable about their craft and have no issue making an off-menu drink. The food is as amazing and innovative as you can imagine by the pictures. I love that you have no clue what's being served beforehand (except for the staple liver tart) and that they give you an elegant copy of the menu at the end. A great place to experience the culinary arts.
google avatar

Viola L.

Yelp
I had huge expectation for this restaurant but unfortunately my expectation wasn't met. To be honest the food was ok but really, just OK. It's fine if I only pay 40 bucks or so for this. Every dish is just a tiny bite and that single bite wasn't even close to stunning. We came hungry and left hungry. The food looks nice but seriously, it can't even compare with the Japanese omakase look. Vibe was not bad and staffs quite family, just like a regular American brunch place. I would not recommend this.

Yelp
It was on the List! Typically have a Waiting list with reservations book for the whole year! Yes Covid has Humble many of us. Will go back again to try them out!

Yelp
Awesome awesome spot! Staplehouse is more than just a meal, it's an experience. This is a spot that every Atlanta resident must visit. Getting a reservation can be a little difficult, you do have to make them at least a month in advance if you're seeking a weekend slot. I always book mine the second reservations open on their website. The dinners themselves are quite pricy but well worth it. They are very accommodating to dietary restrictions. I don't eat pork, and both times I've been they were able to make substitute items for me. I go every year around November, so their menus are fall/holiday themed. Each course is small, but I've had about 9-10 courses each time. Everything I've had has been amazing and is an explosion of flavor in your mouth. I highly recommend checking out Staplehouse even if it is just a one-time thing. It's truly an adventure of flavors. Tip: get there a little early so you can check out the Paper Crane bar upstairs!

Yelp
Came here with the honey, and it was....underwhelming. For $105 per person, I was expecting something a bit more exciting. The place itself was fairly pretty, although a bit generic. Exposed bricks, nice lighting. I did like the cute little plants in jars. The tables, however, were suuuuuper cramped. Like for a good portion of our dinner, I just sat there listening to the party next to our table complaining about how divorce can really f*ck you up...and their hatred for Lebron James. Now personally, I'll indulge in the occasional eavesdropping, but with the tables so close together, there was really no option not to tune out other people's conversations. Kind of took away from the dinner experience. As for the food...well, I've had better. We did the tasting menu, and some of the dishes were good, but some were just straight up unenjoyable. Really liked the king crab dish and the dessert though. Oh, and the potato bread with the thyme oil was delicious. But that was about it. The cabbage dish, though cute in name, was very unpleasant. Other dishes, such as the fluke and chicken liver, were ok. My partner, who is not a huge fan of seafood, did not enjoy a majority of the dishes. Chicken liver is one of his favorite things to eat, and he found the tart just adequate. All in all, it was a nice enough experience, but when you're eating pho the next day, and you think to yourself, "hey, this is a way more enjoyable meal than the dinner I had at Staplehouse", it's probably a clear indication that Staplehouse is not not worth it. But that's just my opinion.

Yelp
The best pivot during the pandemic any restaurant has done. They still have their incredibly brilliant dishes but in a market style setting. This place is magic. The ambience, the food, the warm and cozy deliciousness. My kids are as obsessed as we are...it's hands down my favorite restaurant in Atlanta.

Yelp
The most UNIQUE experience I have ever had. The food is very creative. The bites are small. Presentation is great. I honestly still have no idea what I ate to this very day. Preset menu. Farm table experience. The menu changes every few menus. The chicken liver dish was everyone's least favorite of the meal. My favorite was dessert. The dessert was a sorbet that was made with nitrogen. Also, it very challenging to get a reservation. Book it months in advance! Worth trying it once in your life.

Yelp
Staplehouse is one of the hardest places to get a reservation for in all of Atlanta. So let's start off by how to get in. I suppose you could try to get a reservation. They release them a month in advance and you have to reserve through Tock reservations. I tried and the entire month was taken in less than one minute. My recommendation is not to waste your time. I recommend going early and getting the bar seats that are simply first come first serve. You line up by the garage door that is painted with a picture of John Candy - not the front door. We got there a little before 5 - they open at 5:30 - on a Saturday and we were the first ones there. Service. Some of the best service that I have ever had. Everyone - bartender included - were very knowledgeable about the food and drinks. The staff explains every dish that they present to you and they are not pretentious about it in anyway. The food is brought out in the order they believe best suits the experience. Food. We ordered one of everything on the menu and I recommend that you do to. Presentation - 5+. Every plate is absolutely beautiful. There is undoubtedly a lot of time that goes into the presentation of the food. Preparation and Creativity - 5+. Taste - 4. Don't get me wrong everything taste great. In the same light though nothing blew my socks off. Craveability -2. This was the biggest disappointment. There wasn't a single dish that we ate that either one of us wanted more of or that we would come back and eat again. The Atmosphere. The experience is where Staplehouse truly stands out. It took us 3.5 hours to eat our meal as they bring out the food to suit the experience. Oh and did I mention we ordered one of everything on the menu. All and All. Try it at least once. It's worth that. You may not crave the food and want to go back but you will appreciate the experience and the quality.

Yelp
I usually don't like to arrive too early to a dinner because it is often a hassle moving from the bar to the table. Staplehouse made that whole move seamless. Even with a party of four, we did not feel rushed to get to our table downstairs from the cocktail bar. Whether or not, you've had too many to drink, they carry the drinks for you to your table. And no one was left behind. The hostess, cocktail bar, and wait staff were all prepared to greet my party. The kitchen runs so well I didn't realize I had walked through an open kitchen on the way to my table. As for the food, the dishes were foreign yet familiar. The chicken liver tart surprised me with its bright acidity, being more familiar with country pate and banh mi pate. The beef tendon took me back to childhood with the flavor and texture, being reminiscent of Vietnamese prawn chips. The spigarello, ham, and walnut xo were equal parts Southern American and East Asian in flavor -- the greens had a beautiful texture. I shed a tear when I bit into the potato bread; it was like the first time I ever had Brazilian cheese bread straight out of the oven. The aged beef was beautifully seasoned: balanced, full of flavor, but not salty. We decided to do the wine pairings and they were all complementary and well-portioned. We had just enough to laugh a little more than usual, and enjoy with and in-between the dishes. As my new Staplehouse coozy says: Stomachs never empty; hearts always full.

Yelp
Admittedly, the only reason I wanted to try this place was the same reason as everyone else: Bon Appetit's Best New Restaurant for 2016. The hype was definitely there since our friends booked reservations nearly a month in advanced. FYI, when making reservations, they require a $20/person fee which will be applied to your check. My fiance, friends and I came here for a late lunch and were able to share everything on their menu which is really do-able for a group of 4 without feeling too stuffed. Honestly, I teeter between 3 and 4 stars because the food was great, but maybe the hype raised my expectations. I rounded up for service, because the staff was pretty awesome. Keep in mind that the menu changes, so I won't go into detail about everything - you can look at my pictures. Just about everything was plated beautifully. The only exception is probably the salad which looked really odd because the salad covered half the side of a plate. We were truly wow'd by their beef tartare and personally, I enjoyed their chicken liver tart, but everything else wasn't too memorable. Overall, I'm glad I got to try Staplehouse. It's a beautiful restaurant and tends to get a little loud in the interior dining room near the kitchen and bar. Nevertheless, I don't see myself coming here often if again but I appreciated the experience.

Yelp
5 stars for food, 1 star for service. I didn't appreciate that they assumed my husband was an Uber driver based off... how he looked or his accent, I guess? No shade to Uber drivers, and thank you all for the hard work you put in and amazing services you provide. I just don't like that apparently we don't fit the "Staplehouse customer" image they were expecting, and they felt it pertinent to let him know that. It takes 0 effort to just.. not make those comments. Again, food was amazing though. The meal kit is a brilliant idea and miles more fun than take out. It's well priced, with fun instructions (whoever wrote them A+), and super simple to put together. Everything was super fresh and out of this world delicious. The place itself is cute, easy to find, and has good parking. Would I go back? It's kinda like Chick-fil-a - maybe, because I'm weak for good food, but will consciously put in an effort find an alternative if possible.

Yelp
H and I managed to get a reservation for our anniversary and to celebrate his birthday. I really wanted to like it. The food was beautiful, but entirely too salty. It overpowered some of the unique ingredients featured in each course. I had the vegetarian option, and H had the standard. The worst part was, the ribeye was drowning in a teriyaki-like sauce, which was utterly disappointing for H. I don't cook meat at home so he looks forward tasty meat dishes. The potatoes in one course was described as having rice flour coating and then fried for a crispy outer layer. Definitely didn't have a crunchy texture at all. The potato skins were a tough jerky-like consistency that lacked flavor as I continued to chew. The whole "casual" yet fine dining is new. Not sure I'm accustomed to it yet, as I found myself unable to relax... could just be me.

Yelp
Went for their Valentine's special. Paid in advance for a seat through tick tock. Had heard a great hype about Staplehouse since it first opened as a top 50 new restaurant in the US couple years back. Was really looking forward to it. Pros: very nice staff, we arrived early and were sat early, open kitchen, casual yet classy, loaded bar, the cardamom meringue was tdf, they made us mocktails :] Cons: only about half the menu items we were served wowed us; we are pretty adventurous eaters, but not everything had flavors that played well together... they served a few "raw food" items that I am not quite into... the "raw" food tries to lean more on natural flavors of uncooked vegetables and such... it can be done well, but didnt swing for me this time around... felt a little over staffed... lots of people kind of standing around, almost felt like there was an audience watching the dinner guests since the space opened into the kitchen/serving area... which is where the service team hung out...

Yelp
I'll start with the good.... Staplehouse is rated the number 1 restaurant in Atlanta by Atlanta Magazine. It is on the exclusive side, as reservations go up the first Friday of the month for the next month and are typically fully booked (For example, I made our 6/16 reservation on 5/4). It took us 3 months to finally get in. Also, every after-tax dollar you spend goes to "The Giving Kitchen", a non-profit organization that provides emergency financial assistance to restaurant workers in need. Service was also amazing. Everyone was great. Now the not-so-good.... 3 months ago (when we first started trying to come here), the reservation was $105 a person. It is now $150 per person and is prepaid. If something comes up inside of their 48 hour cancellation window, there is a no refund policy. Anyone with younger children should be aware of this as (as you probably have experienced) anything can happen. They ask for dietary restrictions and were definitely responsive when we sent ours over, but could not truly accommodate any of them. But as long as your dietary restriction is vegan or gluten-free, you should be ok. The part that it pains me to type, is that the food wasn't that good. It is a 10 course tasting menu (for those of you that haven't done that yet, it's small about 3-spoonful-sized portions of 10 dishes) and is determined for you. You do not get to order or change anything. We actually felt like this was pretty cool at first, as it was kind of like having a personal chef. The difference with that though, is your chef knows your likes and dislikes. The smoked duck (pictured below) was tasty, and probably the best dish. I've included others from our experience. In all honestly, it just ended up feeling extremely pretentious and like the focus was not on your dining experience. At $400 (after drinks and tip) for 2 people, I expected a lot more. I walked away feeling like I had bought into the hype. It was a shame, as it was my wife's birthday. If you like trendy, and are one of those people that love saying "I ate at the top-rated restaurant in Atlanta" give it a shot. There are definitely better ones on the list though.

Yelp
Happy to have tried Staplehouse, even though we had high expectations it disappoint. Reservation is a must, we visited at 8:30pm in a Thursday and the place was full. The tasting menu is $105 per person. They have complementary valet so you don't need to worry about parking. I won't go over all of the dishes, you can check our menu in the pictures. I'll just point out to my favorite three dishes. One of my favorites was the aged duck that comes with the potato bread it tasted beautifully just the way it was presented. A second really good one was the mushroom, celeriac and mayor lemon. Finally the pecan, apple and hay dessert was tasty. Overall a really nice experience and worth the visit if you are in Atlanta. Here are my ratings: Ribeye with apple: 8/10 King crab: 8.5/10 Steelhead: 8/10 Mushroom and Meyer lemon: 9/10 Cabbage: 8.5/10 Salami: 8/10 Chicken liver: 8/10 Potato bread: 8.5/10 Aged duck: 8.5/10 Pecan and apple dessert: 8.5/10 Pistachio milk chocolate: 8/10

Yelp
One of my favorite meals to date! Coming into Atlanta for one evening on a long layover, I did my research and discovered Staplehouse. After struggling my way through their stressful online reservation system, I was able to grab 2 seats for their outdoor patio. Seriously, it's so stressful... they release all the reservations at noon on the first Friday of every month and all the reservations disappear within seconds! It's high stakes! Each dish is smaller and meant for sharing, so my husband and I ordered every dish on the menu, literally. Normally, there are dishes that you love, dishes that are meh-ok and dishes that you dislike. Not here! Seriously, I loved every single dish. Each one was tasty, well thought out and uniquely crafted! Drinks options are tasty & lots of local beer available too. If I'm ever in town again, I'm definitely planning ahead to get another meal here!

Yelp
I enjoyed my dinner here, but I don't know that it lives up to the hype. Faves: poached gulf cobia with sunchokes and a finger line crema; 5 mushrooms prepared different ways (raw to fried) with fennel and a celeriac custard; butter poached cabbage with trout sake bushi and rye; sourdough potato bread with a whipped thyme olive oil that was butter smooth in consistency. Meh: raw ribeye mixed with cashews and harukei turnips on top; rehydrated dehydrated carrot with benne seed and chicken liver tart (good persimmon gelee); aloe gin cocktail that I wanted to have more herbaceous notes. Ambiance: classy but lacking in the je ne sais quoi that made me fall in love with my philly favorites like high street, abe Fisher and zahav. Would come back!

Yelp
Well, the news is in, and it's, well...old news. This place is mind-blowing. The food, ambience, and service were all just spectacular. As anyone in Atlanta may tell you, getting in here is challenging - they're booked ahead months. We stood outside in line waiting for them to open and got 2 bar seats, which is where we like sitting anyway - score!! On to the good stuff. We got a few cocktails each, and they're all hand crafted with care. I tried the Burlap and Satin, a mezcal concoction, and the Little Green, which has gin (see photos for full menu descriptions). They were great. Karrie had the Eephus (a very unique vodka tonic) and liked it so much she had two. So...the food. Meant to be shared, so we just ordered a ton of stuff. Here's our rundown: 1. Beef tartare - tender and delicious. Spiced perfectly. An herb sauce made it sooooo good. 2. Chicken liver tart - somewhat of a staple on the menu, and for good reason. Rich and just melts in your mouth. 3. Roasted carrots - herbs, and just the right consistency. Had a green foam that was so good, hard to describe. 4. Asparagus and lamb - probably my least favorite, but certainly not bad. To be fair, neither of us absolutely love lamb but figured we'd give it a whirl so lamb lovers may be in heaven. 5. Potato bread - not huge or filling, but crispy and flavorful. 6. Aged pork - it's aged for two weeks, and has so much flavor. I could eat my weight in this. 7. Dessert - the peach insanity (my name, not theirs). I don't normally eat dessert but was glad I got this. I still don't know what it was, some sort of brûlée I think, but wow! Get it! This place is the real deal, and our bartender/server crew were just amazing to hang out with. Deserving of their reputation! They also donate to the Giving Kitchen, which is a great cause...check it out. The story of this place makes it all the better.
