"A new branch of the Argentinian chain 5411 Empanadas opened in downtown Evanston earlier this month, the Tribune reports. The shop already has half a dozen locations in Chicago and Houston, plus a food truck, but this one is special because co-owners Nicolas Ibarzabal and Mariano Lanfranconi are both Northwestern alumni. 5411 Empanadas, 809 Davis Street, Evanston, Open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday." - Naomi Waxman

This empanada shop is small, clean and cute. I visited this place in the morning hours with my daughter. They have a bench with 3 small round tables to eat in, but very small. We tried the BBQ chicken empanada and it was delicious.

Google
Super cute empanada shop! About 10 different options! I ordered the spinach and cheese along with the impossible meat option. Both were a lot more flavorful than I though. Definitely will be getting the frozen ones to take home next time!

There’s a weird smell in the store that the food also smells of. Like an air freshener or something? Really weird because the food seemed to have great flavor otherwise. Please, please fix this. I really want to come back and try more of these tasty things .

If someone wants a pipping hot nuked tiny frozen empanada for $5, you can have mine. What a scam.

The girl at the cash register is weird. You come in and she just stares at you or looks around. The empanadas were a disappointment. They taste like they've been frozen for months and they just popped them in the microwave.

I was very excited to find empanadas and alfajores. The empanadas ( beef and ham & cheese) were old and very soggy. The chocolate alfajores also tasted rancid. Please ensure your food is kept fresh. So sad.

I stopped by today for Tuesday Empanadas—it was very busy. I wanted to compliment the young lady at the register, she was polite and professional despite the pressure from impatient customers and the food preparer who seemed overwhelmed! The empanadas were well worth the little wait. We will be back!

Love their impossible empanadas with red hot sauce.

Yelp
Tried for the first time today, and phew, this place is delicious. Love that they had frozen options and catering! I had the beef today, and look forward to coming back to try other options!

Yelp
Here's what you need to know: good friendly service, albeit slow. Flavors were decent but ultimately unmemorable. Small take out cafe with 6 seats so we cramped up and ate there on a freezing cold Saturday afternoon. It is on the expensive side for the quantity and flavor profile. Solid 4 star experience

Yelp
Cool little place to get empanadas. 5411 Empanadas is one of the overlooked businesses in Evanston because it's easy to walk by it. It's got empanadas of course as well as sides. Flavors are pretty interesting and not all the traditional typical ones, because some of these are crazy. There's ones with meats and others with vegetables, so it has a variety of these. Basic looking place where you order at the counter. It's pretty much for takeout but you can still eat inside. There's a counter along the window. It's about $4 for a latte. The coffee is okay but it's not their main thing. Empanadas are a pretty good size and are filling. We each got the Impossible Empanadas, and were pleased. All vegan empanadas. These were filled with green olives, Impossible meat, potatoes, sautéed onions, and scallions. Get some of these to go. It also does catering if you would like empanadas for your party. There's a few that are good for vegans and vegetarians.

Yelp
Good, really good BUT $5 gets you literally a BITE of empanada. That's a lot--for college students especially. Either make them bigger, make them cheaper, or have a deal like 3 for $10 or buy two get one free. This is a college town, not downtown. I had the steak filled one. Was fabulous but I was starving after and no time to order another.

Yelp
Why did I wait so long to try these? I am very pleased by the current "Twosdays" promo: is it 2for 1 at dinner hour ? or $2 each?? WOW! I just love the Bbq Ckn, Malbec beef, and Spinach-Cheese, and Bacon-Date(mmm, dessert-like) . ( I do like sweetened proteins). Served hot ( I do carryOuts), each one weighs about 2.7oz. The dough is in the right balance. The crisp and pinched border tastes almost like a Water Cracker. The edge of Each pocket is embossed with a two Letter code so you know which filling is inside.

Yelp
I was given undercooked empanadas, when asked for an exchange or to be made again they brought the same ones but hotter, the dough is thin and it tastes store bought, the chimichurri sucks, not authentic at all! And the server was kinda rude. Their coffee is actually pretty good and their alfajores saved the day, exquisite and authentic, if you want to try a good Argentinian dessert this is a good place for it, but not the food, not at all.

Yelp
Amazing empanadas!!!! Great selection. I ordered the Malbec beef, chicken and spinach and cheese and bananas. They were hot, flavorful and delicious. Only wish I had ordered more!!!

Yelp
Food is ok but empanadas are expensive for their size. In fact I feel they may have gotten smaller from when I first tried this place years ago I o.

Yelp
Ordered ahead for a box of frozen empanadas and a couple of the amazing dessert cookies called Alfajores. The empanadas baked up great and were stamped on the edges so we could identify each one. Started with the Chorizo and egg which was pleasantly spicy and would make a terrific breakfast. Then the mac and cheese which tasted as it should. The Malbec beef was really meaty and my favorite. The bacon, date and goat cheese was less sweet than I was expecting although it was my daughter's favorite. The chicken curry was her second favorite and mine was the mushroom thyme one. They are small enough that the box of 8 was an ample brunch for two. We'd never heard of Alfajores before, but they were the highlight of the meal. A crumbly cookie sandwich with dulce de leche filling and coated in chocolate. We each got a small one and they were so rich we had to eat them in small bites. (Can't imagine eating a large one.) Will definitely be back in the future!

Yelp
I ordered 4 different empanadas, the shredded beef which was bland and sandy tasting, the chicken curry which was good but dry, the spinach and cheese tasted like spinach that was not seasoned and a bit of cheese, and my fav which was the bacon, dates and goat cheese. I will return to try other ones but they need more flavor. Good customer service though! And the empanadas come out hot!

PJ S.

Yelp
Very cute store space and friendly service. The empanadas don't travel well though - they do not remain crispy. Some really good flavors (corn, bacon/date, chorizo/potato) but most needed more salt. Chimichurri was pretty bland as well.

Sabrina C.

Yelp
5411 empanadas is cute small shop that has so much variety in their flavors! I always try something new when I go. They also have a stamp card which makes it fun to finish and get some rewards! The sauces are delicious as well! Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Mushroom thyme - very good. Super flavor. Light, flaky crust. Malbec Beef is a mouthful of goodness. The Chimichurri sauce is rather mild and delicious. Very good energy.

Lisa L.

Yelp
I've come here twice so far and each time was very happy with the empanadas. I've tried almost all of them and have never been disappointed. Oh, and the chimichurri and hot sauce, yummmm! Enjoy!

Darlene C.

Yelp
Enpanadas were excellent! My favorite is the Ratatouille, I'm sure they're all delicious. Great welcoming service.

CS. W.

Yelp
Clean tasting empanadas. Not face-melting good but not junky. Takes at least 10 min to prep, pre-order to pickup. Fair price in Evanston. Small eat-in space good for snack time in the middle of winter or out of the heat of summer.

Yelp
Just stopped by here for their opening and had the best empanadas I've ever had. Had a chicken and a Mac and cheese. They're baked, not fried, and definitely made fresh.

Lyle A.

Yelp
Some of the best Empanadas I've had! Great service. Amazing product. Will be sure to visit again when I'm in town.

Steven M.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the grand opening today! There were so many different flavours to choose from and I'm definitely going back for more. While the impossible empanada was not great (but that's not the fault of them) the beef and the chorizo and egg one hit the spot. Plus that Chimichurri sauce took it to a whole another level. One thing I would like them to potentially do in the future is to make deep fried empanadas (that is a personal preference).

Yelp
Today we ordered Thru door dash for our first time from this restaurant. Appalling customer service over trying to get half of our order corrected. Was told to deal with it Thru the app. Door dash is unwilling to issue any refund. 1/2 of our order is compromised. 1 item missing, one the wrong item and one has a hair in it. The employees on the phone each time I called were polite and apologetic, stated the manager is off duty and when they txt him he said nothing can be done. It is crazy how door dash adds so many fees to a customer ,charges so much for service and I am sure the restaurant gets charged fees for their service too and then neither are able to refund or send the correct food. I was using a gift card today, I am so disappointed in the poor quality of care, bad business ethics and just down right unacceptable food service and management. I would say don't spend your money here and get your empanadas from someplace else. One very disappointed and disgusted customer and I'm sure the 3 people who were in this order with me would agree as no one got what we paid allot for.
