20 Excellent Lunch Options in Downtown Chicago - Eater Chicago

"Small, portable, and easy to eat, empanadas make for a great midday meal. This local chain offer some of the best in town, filled with a variety of ingredients. The soft, flaky pastries come in options like barbecue chicken, beef braised in Malbec, and bacon with dates and goat cheese. Don’t forget the chimichurri or red hot sauce, either, for a bit of spice." - Jeffy Mai

Let me start off with I will be coming back. I went here to have lunch, they informed me my food would come out in 10 min... 20 min passed 30 min passed we still didn't have our food. Bret, an employee there made it all better! Talk about customer service! He quickly went to the back and made us his priority, we got fresh hot delicious empanadas! He was so apologetic he even gave us dessert to go with our meal on the house. Food is delicious! As for the service ask for BRET! THANKS BRET for making our bad experience all better!

Love their empanadas. Go early for lunch as it gets busy. We got bbq chicken, bacon dates and goat cheese which was my favorite, chorizo and potato and caramelized onion.

Interesting place with unique tasting empanadas for good prices. They have a lot of different fillings and all seem pretty good. Very fast service as I think they premake all the food. I got the malbec beef, curry chicken and mushroom blue cheese thyme empanadas. First time having empanadas so probably not the best judge. The filing's taste is very strong, very strong beef, curry and mushroom tastes respectively. The dough I was not too big a fan of, it was a little too dry and overal a bit cold. I suspect they are premade and kept in a heater or under a heat lamp. Overall a decent place to grab a quick bite for a cheap price!

Good selection and I like that they are baked, but the flavors just don't really stand out. They are kind of small, beware if you go for the 3 empanada combo.

Good empanadas, loved the malbec and banana/nutella there most.

Really, really great empanadas. Especially the breakfast ones. The bacon egg and cheese empanada is one of this worlds superior breakfast items. The coffee service seems to be pretty good too, though I didn't personally partake. The wait at lunch is insane, though. The place wasn't very busy and it was still 15 minutes after ordering, which is really getting up there for casual dining in the loop.

This place has good empanadas but they're nothing special. The empanadas restaurant in the Clark Center is definitely better in my opinion. Empanadas here are not heated enough before being served and the outer dough is a mix of texture. It's not on the flaky side, but it's also not on the slight fried exterior yet soft interior layer side, it's kind of a bad in-between. Drink and empanadas combo for lunch isn't a bad deal though.

The empanadas here are great, but it bugs me that they are always out of some of them. I tried the ratatouille and it was amazing, thick and heavy with gravy and very flavorful. I could have been full with just 2. I wasn't the biggest fan of the malbec beef, it seemed a little dry. But in the 2-3 times I've gone there they've been out of the bacon and goat cheese (sadness). Guess I'll just keep calling till they have some. They have a cute little restaurant as well, for coffee and a quick bite in the evening, this is the perfect stop. Be warned that the empanadas do not reheat well (of course I would try to reheat them) but enjoy them as soon as they hit the table.
