13 Best Breweries in Vancouver, Washington and Beyond

"Driving to 54°40’ Beer for the first time may feel a bit like getting lost, located in an industrial area in Washougal. Visitors are rewarded with Gorge views and stellar brews like the crisp Kascadia kolsch and smooth 1862 Mexican lager. 54°40’ recently opened a beer lodge in Stevenson, with an expanded food menu that includes salads, sandwiches, snacks, and pizza. The business also recently opened a second location called Kascadia Brewery and Public House with a full kitchen serving salads, starters, smash burgers, and pizza." - Rachel Pinsky

SerpAPI
Nice variety tap list, solid beers, Kolsch is one of the best beers . Hazy beer is fine. Great burgers, bacon a bit in the fatty side. Nice atmosphere, friendly service, plenty of parking and outdoor seating as well. Set way back in warehouse industrial area a bit hard to notice, worth a visit.

Absolutely loved this. Great service. Superb beer and fantastic food. A very warm welcome. Slightly off the beaten track but 100% worth the visit. You won't be disappointed it's great.

This is a place you won’t just stumble upon. You have to know it’s there, located in a dead end street in an industrial area. However, lots of people do know it, judging by the numbers of people coming in on a Wednesday night. And for good reason! The beers are great; I tried two excellent IPAs which they had on tap, and the food is really good too. My burger was exquisite. Also, I totally enjoyed the music choice and the staff were professional, friendly, easygoing and pleasant!

Came to 54-40 for Hop Creep Concert to Benefit the West Columbia Gorge Humane Society. Great beers, music and cute doggies. It’s a good family/ friends hangout place in Washougal.

Very good beer and food kinda reminds me of Pizza Port in San Clemente meets a cabin in the country.

SerpAPI
Awesome little pub close to cottonwood Beach. Rustic wood all around, large communal style tables up front and smaller mote intimate seating in back. The BLT is the best in town and they have some pretty solid beers as well. My only complaint is that they are closed Monday and Tuesday, but I totally get that everyone needs a couple days off.

So much fun & chillin @5440 w/ the Tectonic gym crew. Fresh delicious beer and homecooked food with wonderful portions. I had the chicken sandwich. SO GOOD. Just writing this makes me want to go back today.

Solid space and good beer! We didn't stay for food but the atmosphere was wonderful and it was trivia night. It's in an odd location farther off highway 14 than I thought, but would go there again! The staff were friendly and we even bought some merch!

Yelp
The food was pretty good. We didn't get drinks but I wouldn't rush back here. The inside is awesome and clean. The burgers we got were just meh.

Yelp
Recently revisited 54-50 Brewing's beer. I was highly impressed by it when I first went there several years ago while on a brewery tour and it was my favorite out of the brewery visits. The beer still holds up very well and is still very flavorful and infectious in the best way possible. The beer I had most recently was the 1862 Mexican Lager. It was fantastic and I dropped a very high starred score on Untappd just like how I am doing here on Yelp. That Mexican Lager was great with it's clean and crisp flavor with citrus and a light sweetness. While I definitely recommend this beer I don't think there are any beers that I prefer over another because they are simply that good as far as I'm concerned.

Yelp
This place is definitely off the beaten path. I'm not fond of the location as it is in an industrial complex but if you forget about that, it's not too bad. Plenty of parking, plenty of seating, but if you sit out back beyond the brewery complex, you need to go get your get your own food and beer must be iserved n plastic glasses. The main entrance of the pub has community tables squeezed with a beautiful fireplace on the inside and several tables just on the outside. We simply dropped by for cold drinks and some snacks after a full day of hiking and boating out at Lacamas Lake. The bartender was super friendly. We got the elote street corn and a side of fries and a blueberry wheat ale. To be honest I was not impressed with the elite street corn. I've had much better and thought it was overpriced. It was presented nicely though with little flowers and a dusting of spices. I was fully expecting this to be smothered but the elote sauce came from a squeeze bottle in a zig zag pattern. Corn was sweet but they could rework this appetizer to make it taste better. French fries were great on the other hand. Loved the seasoning. Beer was delicious and refreshing.

Yelp
We stopped here first on our brewery tour. We got lunch and it was pretty good. I ordered the tail slapping hazy ipa, but it wasn't hazy. It was still pretty ok. I'd go back. It has a nice atmosphere and it's large inside and has a lot of outside seating.

Yelp
Prices here are fantastic, beer is even better. Our service has never been anything short of excellent, everyone is very kind and polite. Highly recommend

Yelp
Fantastic beers, fantastic ambiance (esp in Spring - Fall). Service was fast, efficient, correct. What more can you ask for? Dog & children friendly.

Yelp
I really enjoyed our stop by this brewery. It's located in an out of the way industrial spot, but convenient to Cottonwood Beach and Lacamas Lake. Staff were stellar, friendly and excellent service. Lots of seating options - off to the side of the building is a seating area with cornhole and maybe other games, outside picnic tables and long wood tables inside with plenty of seats. Great place to come with friends. My spouse and I got some drinks, a couple snacks and played a game we had brought with us. If you forgot your games, they have you covered, too. Since I don't drink, I'm always a little critical when there aren't options for me, but that's not why you come to a taphouse usually, so take that for what it's worth. My spouse enjoyed his beer and the snacks were great. I'll come again!

Yelp
Delicious beers and food! Very friendly staff as well. The kolsch is particularly good.

Yelp
Excellent selection of drafts, surprisingly deep bench of appetizers and meal options. Loved the friendly staff.

Yelp
Great food. Friendly service. Interesting location. Perfect to have some warm and delicious food and fresh brewed cold beverages after walking around at Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge along the Columbia River just a half mile away. Went there with a large group and we all had a wonderful time.
google avatar

Jim W.

Yelp
Good beer and an amazing shaved Brussels sprout salad. Definitely coming back to hike the Columbia river nearby. Didn't even notice the industrial setting once inside
google avatar

Yelp
They're tucked back in an industrial area, so unless you're looking for them, you wouldn't stumble upon them. They have a large dining area open and adjacent to their warehouse/brewery and a nice, big fireplace in the main dining section to warm things up when things get chilly. They also have a patio area along the sidewalk off of the parking lot. Of course, they have lots of beers on tap along with some wine and ciders. We stopped in after a day of hiking specifically because they serve food, too, and we were famished. They have quite a big menu, considering it's a brewery location, so there's something for everyone. We opted to share their giant soft pretzel with beer cheese & mustard for dipping (yum!), the shaved Brussels sprouts salad (which was delicious, but comprised of mostly broccoli slaw with just a few bits of Brussels sprouts detected, so that was disappointing but it was still good), and for the entree we had their Autumn special of pork roast topped with pear chutney served with German potato salad (which tasted more like regular potato salad to me, as I've had my fair share of the German kind, but it was still good). All in all it's quite a nice place and a great option if you are in the area!

Yelp
If you find yourself in washougal you gotta stop by this hidden gem. Great beer, cool ambiance, and the spicy chicken tender samich was yummy
google avatar

Jessica G.

Yelp
A year or two ago I would have given them 5 stars and we were going a few times a month. Chicken tenders used to be the best around and recommended them often. However, the last few time we have done it has been really disappointing. Food was flavorless and smaller portions. Beer is still good though so if we go back it will be only for that.
google avatar

Jaeme M.

Yelp
When we arrived there was a huge line and we were crunched on time, we asked how long and they replied 15 minutes, which was great. We split a cheeseburger, while eating I kept smelling salmon, I thought it was just me, it wasn't, we both paid for it later, with upset stomachs. Not sure I would be willing to risk it again...

Yelp
For a brewery, this location seems pretty awkward to me, in the middle of an industrial complex. According to my friend, the beers are amazing here. Fortunately they also carry marionberry cider so we both enjoyed the chilling after the Sunday hike. Plus, I figured in this location, they would carry the best fries and good lunch options. It's now my second time here and instead of the loaded fries (we did end up ordering those last time), we ordered chicken tenders and fries. Okay, okay, yes, the chicken tenders were absolutely amazing!! Great breading (not too bready, very thin and excellent bite), great seasoning with fresh herbs, very juicy; considering I don't eat meat often (only when there is little choice), I was glad we did this time. Note: I only had one and they are rather large. I am a bit sad about the fries: I cannot recommend them. This is the second time where they came out a tad soft; my pet peeve. The taste is fine though. And if the other foods are anything like the chicken tenders, don't let that stop you!!

Yelp
Pretty tasty food and good beer! The pulled pork sandwich was super delicious and huge! It fed two of us. The only thing I would change is that we got the pretzel appetizer at the same time as the main dishes. Would return!

Carol D.

Yelp
There were 9 of us including 4 kids and we stopped mid afternoon so it wasn't busy. The service was amazing. We shared meals as we had dinner plans within a few hours. We shared BLT's, pulled pork and something else I can't remember, lots of fries. We're not local but it's a good casual place for locals and I really appreciated the service.

Yelp
54-40 in Stevenson WA is a great place to get pizza, and their new and tasty meat ball sandwich! The staff is always welcoming, and I feel comfortable eating there alone. yay, for for a tasty treat in Stevenson, without the expense of most other restaurants here.
google avatar

Kendra F.

Yelp
Beer was good enough. We had 8 different meals all very disappointing. Smoked pork was flavorless, burnt, chewy, spicy chicken sliders were one single chicken strip amongst all 3 sliders combined, bacon on the BLT was uncooked, the special was empanadas it only came with 2 empanadas and nothing more; they were meat and puff pastry without spice or anything, and the fries were cold. Every meal came out at different times. It took 25 minutes to receive all meals.

Yelp
Tucked away in the industrial part of Washougal, we originally thought our GPS was wonky. Once we were inside, the transformation from hard factory like setting to a cozy lodge feel with a fireplace and beautiful woodwork was awesome. We started with their Bavarian pretzel. OH MY GOODNESS! I could've made a meal from just this! Even my picky 3 year old was lovin' it! The special was a delicious Swiss Mushroom Burger and fries that my husband throughly enjoyed. It was well seasoned and perfectly cooked a medium rare. Personally, I would like the fries more crispy or beer battered but they were still okay. I had their Spicy Chicken Sandwich with side salad. The flavor of the sauce was great. Sweet and not too spicy, though a little overcooked (you can tell by the picture how dark it is) for my taste. I think next time I might ask for a side of blue cheese dressing to pour over it. I had their Pretty in Pink (delicious!) and my husband has their Night Cap. He liked their stout so much he bought a four pack to bring home! To sum it up, we will definitely be back. What a GREAT little hideaway for the locals! Keep up the fantastic work!
google avatar

Yelp
Food is amazing, the view outside is amazing, the music was fantastic. A MUST go if you live/travel to Oregon/Washington. GO! What are you waiting for!?!?
google avatar

Yelp
5 Stars for customer service. Everyone there is friendly and we were served in a very timely manner. 5 Stars for beer and food. Everything we were served was phenomenal. 5 Stars for ambiance. Fireplace roaring, outside tables with individual tents (great place to bring your dogs) and cute gift items you can buy. Location is a bit off the beaten path but for us it makes the place even better. Love 5440!!!
google avatar

Katherine C.

Yelp
Nice place. Great food. Beer was good. You order at the counter. Everything comes at once. The food servings are large and shareable. We ordered the poutine. So delicious! The gravy was perfect and peppery. The cheese awesome! The spicy chicken sandwich was huge. Ate with fork and knife. The grilled cheese was awesome. Got rid of lettuce. Doesn't need it. Hubby loved the poutine. He liked only the Gose beer (Gross Point Blank).
google avatar

Jake F.

Yelp
Atmosphere is five stars. The food has five stars. The beer is five stars. Cleanliness of the restaurant has five stars. You just can't go wrong with this place. The price for the food and the drinks is affordable. Last time I was here I had the mac & cheese and it was good and honestly that's how I normally judge a restaurant. There's not a lot of places that make a good mac & cheese. I've had their steak bites before also they were good. By far my favorite is the Ruben though. I can't even begin to start talking about their beer because I'd be here all night. Thanks 54/40 .
google avatar

Jim S.

Yelp
Stopped by to try some local beer with some friends. Friends had the Mexican brew and enjoyed it. Too light for me. I had a great amber that went fine with the poutine. However the poutine is such a huge portion- three of us couldn't finish. Not a bad thing. Poutine had cheese instead of curd. Loved it. More flavorful!!! Great atmosphere. Great food. Will be back!!! Look out for bears hanging around!!
google avatar

Lauren B.

Yelp
We have always had a great experience here & love how family friendly this brewery is. The beer is consistently good and the staff is friendly and helpful. I love the Reuben sandwich as well as their burgers. I hope they bring back the Mad Hatter sandwich, it was my favorite! We also ordered two kegs for our wedding recently and the entire process was a breeze!
google avatar

Almonzo R.

Yelp
This is one of the best restaurants in Washougal. The beer is always A+ and I can't say enough about the pulled pork sandwich. I am addicted. Super friendly staff, awesome atmosphere. I am glad they were able to weather the pandemic. This is one of Washougal's treasures.
google avatar

Rad M.

Yelp
Really great beer, friendly service, dog friendly patio! Also the food was amazing the beer pretzel and all the sandwiches we got were amazing and came with the best fries. Can't wait to come back !
google avatar

Becks H.

Yelp
My family and I love this place. Their food is delicious, and my husband loves the beer selection. We love that they have an outdoor area and even a separate room with some toys for kids. The only bad thing is their menu isn't very large and not much of a kids menu. Would love to see that but I understand since its a bar. Can't wait to go back and support them!
google avatar

Yelp
I have been to 54-40 maybe 3 or 4 times I actually came across this picture and forgot that I didn't leave the review from back in January I was so pissed I guess I just forgot... We went in on a fairly quiet day maybe 70% of capacity not busy at all really... I normally don't love but like their beer but their food is usually very good. I paid $14 for Korean steak bites and we waited a long time to get them... No fries with steak bites for $14? First of all everywhere else in the world would have had a small side serving of something fries, arugula, salad, something... Nothing what I got was a pie pan with 6 bites of steak the width of the fork see image for reference. The waitress actually looked at the plate and let loose a single chuckle before putting it on the table, not making that up it happened, then I looked at it in front of me and looked back at her and said really? Is this real I laughed? I ate it (as well as one of my sons chicken tenders in order to make it through lunch) paid and haven't been back since. Picture attached of the untouched plate.

Phil T.

Yelp
Really great selection of good beers with honestly tasty food. Have been there 3 times now and it did not disappoint once. A little bit if a drive for some but well worth it. Friendly staff as well!
google avatar

Julia D.

Yelp
The beers were average. The decor was very...wooden. Minus one star because the undoubtedly polite girl beertender had no effing clue what was going on. Every time someone new came up to the bar to order something, her eyes would glaze over and she'd say something like, "I'm so sorry, I don't know who's next." Might need to practice attention and prioritization. Then minus another star, because the vibes from the patrons just were not good at all. This place is only a half hour outside of Portland, but all the old white people and their progeny were looking at me like I escaped from the circus and they were trying to figure out who to call to come bring me back again. It's another one of those places that's for the locals. Thanks, but no thanks.
google avatar

Caryn D.

Yelp
Love this place. They did a great job turning a warehouse space into a place with gemütlichkeit-complete with gas fireplace. The beer is really good. We enjoyed a collaboration with The Commons called 'If it wort for those meddling kids'. Complex flavor, dark appearance. They also have darts. We will def be coming back. Updating...we have been supporters of this business. I happen to think they make really tasty beer. I continue to love the vibe and the staff. I appreciate that they are community members and support community events. That said, we are now experiencing the third time of being essentially 'kicked out' of the dart space due to a scheduled event. At what point do you need a separate community space so that regulars don't experience this? I'm bummed by this practice. Again, I support community space, but at what point are you screwing regulars to cater to an 'event'? As a customer it feels kinda disrespectful to be told to skedaddle. I reduced my previous 4 star review to 3 because of this practice.
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
Stopped here on our way back home after a hike - for a weekday during lunch, only one party indoors which made us feel very comfortable sitting inside. Several other parties were using the tables outside. Everyone was very respectful, keeping masks on unless eating/drinking. We split a burger and enjoyed the beer - will definitely come back!
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
Found this place on my neighborhood FB page. Wow! So happy I did! We moved back to the area and exploring new places. The food is so good! And the Beer is awesome too! The service and staff were friendly and inviting. There was a small wait for a table to eat. But it was handled by the servers and staff with ease. They got this Covid thing figured out. Haha Good job guys! I have already been back in the last week to take a Growler over to a friends house for them to try it! This will be my new fave hangout!

E P.

Yelp
We were told this was a good place for food and beer...needed a little more shade outside as it is pretty hot today but other than that would stop again! Also TVs inside to watch football.
google avatar

Rick J.

Yelp
Good beer and a great chix sandwich. The pulled pork was too heavy on slaw for me but I really it's good. We will be back.

Jeff E.

Yelp
We love it here... BUT.... Every single time we come here there is some issue that bums us out! It's either you have to order a beer before picking your table, which only seems to apply to some people, by accident or on purpose. Then there is different rule and menu for the back area. I have seen multiple groups come is and get the run around just trying to figure it out. Now that COVID is behind us, I don't understand! Before COVID there were not these problems. It's not COVID, it's that the process has got in the way. I want to support the business but man they make it hard! NOTE: the food and beer are always great! In fact sitting here now enjoying the back area.

Dona L.

Yelp
What happened to your beer cheese? You have changed it . The pretzel too different. Please go back to the original. So much better.

MJ S.

Yelp
Your beer is our favorite! However he experience of visiting and the food has changed and gone downhill exponentially. Ordered a a pretzel ( or favorite) and the sauce was tastless. The mustard was like french's yellow mustard and we were really disappointed. The staff is not engaging at all. Pleeeeeeeease fix it! We want you back! Always loved to come hang out and vring our dog to the patio.
google avatar

Carol Ann M.

Yelp
Love this out of the way venue! Everyone loved their burgers/Ruben. All perfectly cooked and spicy fries were great! Nice selection of beers. Great deal to take some home' device was friendly and attentive. Lovely outdoor patio too. Enjoy!
google avatar

Steve L.

Yelp
Great beers. Food is also very good, but for a dinner for two, appetizer and two beers was $60. So kinda on the pricy side, especially for Washougal area. Location is out of the way which is nice, but when using the game room we were asked to leave for a larger group, so that kinda sucked. But if you are looking for a great beer and food, you cant miss with this place.
google avatar

Jan K.

Yelp
Great beer and great burgers. Today, during this crazy Covid crisis, we ordered online and waited in our car for the order to be delivered to us. Thank you for staying open and keep up the great work!
google avatar

Kimberly C.

Yelp
Cool brewery with a rustic vibe inside which is well done. Great beers which have won multiple awards. They do have food, but is slightly limited because of space. It was actually great because we had some beers and a really good pretzels with beer cheese which was just perfect. They have an outside area which is nice on days when it's not raining. It's close to the river but there's no view and the location is a little out of the way. We thought we were actually lost on our way there so if you feel that way it's OK there's a sign when you get close to reassure you you're almost there. It's worth it when you get there. There's a separate area with some games- darts, etc and a big TV too.
google avatar

Adam M.

Yelp
I have loved this place since it opened. Great beer, great food, great people. In this current crisis, they have adapted to the "take out" model. I just picked up my order and the food was awesome. I know this is a hard time for all food businesses, and these guys do a great job. Many thanks, and I look forward to this being over so I can come back in! Thanks!!!!

Erica D.

Yelp
Great food, fun atmosphere. We love supporting local businesses & could eat their fries all day!
google avatar

Alex B.

Yelp
The Brewery (part) owner is a multi-awarded Brewmaster - Bolt Minister. Need I say more. This place is definitely worth a try and you may find yourself coming back. Don't say I didn't warn you. The seasonal offerings of their brews are worth the trip. For those of you that don't want to take the drive to the area and think you can have the same brews in Portland and surrounding area. Guess what? That brewery that you may be going to actually lost their award winning brewmaster. That would be the part owner and brewmaster of 54-40. So come on down. Make the drive. I can promise you two things: a very scenic route getting there and one of the best beers you ever had - any one of them or try a sampler. Come on and grab a cold one or two or three.....
google avatar

Nathan A.

Yelp
They had some really good beers, good food, and a cool place. The staff seemed worn out early on a Saturday night, and distant to inbound patrons, which I thought was a little odd but it was a super hot day so maybe that was taking its toll. Follow your Nav there It will seem like you are going the wrong place or are driving through an old set from the walking dead but its worth it once you get there. Had a really great Reuben Sandwich and tasters of all 8 beers that they had on tap with my favorites being surprisingly off my normal preferences 'Brass Monkey' I am talking about you. The IPA was a close second.
