The Finest Diners in Portland and Beyond

"This Tualatin nostalgia diner certainly has the look down, with its red vinyl booths and shiny metallic touches; that attention to detail applies to the milkshakes as well, which arrive in glass with a swirl of whipped cream and a scarlet maraschino cherry. Flavors range from Oreo to butterscotch, with a wide selection of boozy versions — bourbon fudge, banana rum. The food menu plays the hits: burgers, chicken fried steak, BLTs, and grilled cheese. Breakfast includes standards like pancakes and biscuits and gravy." - Eater Staff

Google
It's our first time in here today. This place is GREAT!!! Valerie is a wonderful server. Friendly and attentive. The food...my goodness! I have ZERO complaints 🤗 I tried their almond Roca shake and it was absolutely delicious! We will definitely be coming back again in the near future and highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it 🙂

Renee Schaefer

Google
Love this place! Not sure why more people aren’t talking about it but the food and service were great. Old timey diner feel, and we will definitely be returning. Oh, and the curly fries are legit.

Winston Harden

Google
Everything about this place is grade A. The food is beyond great, the service is excellent and the milkshakes are best in town. The music is splendid bring back memories of singing songs of the 60s with my grandparents and dancing in the living room as a child. I can’t wait to bring my grandmother here. This restaurant has definitely became my favorite in town.

Google
Excellent breakfast! We ordered the chicken fried steak plate and the breakfast burrito. The country gravy was yum! Perfect coffee. The whole place smelled great, too. The restaurant was really clean. The service was excellent. Can't wait to come back.

Google
Atmosphere was nostalgic of an era that was safe and fun. Great food and the boozy John Wayne milkshake was delish. Great staff, friendly and not pushy but still checked in on us from time to time.

Rachel K.

Google
Good food, great ambiance, fun staff, clean, and at a decent price. Also plenty of seating, family and adult friendly. The multiple tv screens playing old cartoons with oldies music on the speakers(even in the restroom! Haha) was a real neat touch. Big, bright and cheery dining room with plenty of retro photos and even cool airplanes hanging up. I plan on returning to have one of their shakes. They have a good variety, even boozy shakes. I recommend treating yourself to this unique spot in Tualatin, Oregon.

Google
Good food and it’s absolutely adorable in here. Playing cartoons on the tvs and a jukebox. The chicken tenders were great not covered in tons of breading and not dry and chalky. Love it

Google
Such a fun place to be! It was like time traveling! We just went for milkshake and onion rings and they were simply amazingly delicious! The best milkshake we've ever tasted!! The service was great! We're planning to go back for a full meal next time!

Yelp
Food is always good Service adequate Interesting note on breakfast omelette. Meat and chz are included in price. But if you want a veggie omelette only there is a $3.50 up charge. No exceptions The server informed me there was nothing she could do. "That's the way it is in our system" seems to me you could put a veggie omelette on the menu. The food that ordered was delicious

Yelp
This place is amazing!. I came in and was welcomed to a very nice 60s diner feel. The TVS are playing 60s shows and movies. I truly think this place deserves a lot more attention. I was very satisfied with the experience and food. :)

Breanna M.

Yelp
Nothing special. Mushroom burger wasn't bad but the club sandwich was dry. Curly fries are like store bought frozen fries. Mozzarella sticks were not my favorite, I think there breaded with like corn? Not too sure but I wasn't a fan. Not worth the $45 meal that's for sure. On a positive note, service was quick and kind waitress. Nice 60s vibe

Yelp
Considering that I found this place on a random direction walk from my workplace, I was pleased by the quick service turnaround time for a hot sandwich and fries to go. As for ambience, didn't have time to savor the 60's memorabilia in the walls.

Dan P.

Yelp
Chili cheese fries and curly fries are good. Burgers are solid, with fresh/quality ingredients. Root beer floats are worth the stop. Loads of ice cream with foam overflowing the glass.

Yelp
I mean it's exactly what it sounds like, it's a diner straight from the 60s, and it's amazing for that. The decor is awesome, from the tvs playing old cartoons to the models planes hanging from the ceiling, it all fits so well. The food itself was also very good, and we got it very fast.

Nancy H.

Yelp
Saw the sign and stopped in for lunch. Met at the door by Manager Jerry, take a seat where ever you like. Took our seat, immediately brought ice water and a menu, answered our questions. Ordered our lunch and within 7 minutes was in front of us. Reuben for my hubby and club for me with curly fries for both. Food was fresh tasting and excellent, fries were hot and delicious. Staff from Mgr Jerry to waiter friendly and helpful without being overwhelming or irritating. Restaurant very clean and decor very fun looking. Price was reasonable compared to similar restaurants. Would recommend it and will visit again. Definitely need a 60 Diner to open in Vancouver Washington!! Yes we live in Vancouver but worth the drive.

Rachel K.

Yelp
I'll be returning to this diner. It's fun and unique. I loved everything from the music, multiple TV's with vintage cartoons, posters, airplanes and car couch. The food was good and reasonably priced. The entire place was clean and the staff was super nice and attentive. Wheelchair friendly with a ramp out front(east side I believe) spacious dining area and restroom. The ambiance is great. I can't wait to come back for the shakes. They have a variety of flavors. You're guaranteed to find one you want. I recommend stopping by this gem.

Yelp
Joey is awesome and gave the best service to my family and I. Food was good, all wait staff were friendly. Highly recommend :-)

Kalvin S.

Yelp
Valerie took great care of us! Food was great as well as service! :) Definitely recommend!!

Yelp
Nice burger place with photos of a great era - 50 years ago! A little spendy but what isn't these days! Burger was cooked just right as were rings and fries. Wonderful malts and shakes. Service with a smile. Nice change and will come back.

Yelp
I love old school diners, the decor is done well, really cute! The first time we went in for breakfast, it wasn't great, but it was fairly good enough to make us go back again. The second time we went in, I felt like we had walked into a different place. The breakfast was horrible, nothing was old -school comfort food here! The quality of the food was very poor! The sausage gravy was tasteless, like a packaged gravy. The toast was hard and cold, like a cracker, like it was pre-toasted sometime ago! Our sausage was so over cooked, dry, hard and tasteless! What happened??? I worked in the restaurant industry for almost 16 years. We had lines going out the door for our breakfast and lunch. If you don't serve a decent quality of food, and have a cook and owner that cares what kind of food that you serve, you are not going to get customers to come back like they should. But, I will say they serve delicious coffee, I believe it's Lilly's brand of coffee. I would love to see them succeed, if you have good food, they will come!

Yelp
Came in to satiate an urge for a Hot Dog. They do not serve hot dogs. I thought a 60's Diner might. So had bacon cheese burger and curly fries. Burger was great, patty just right size and cook. Simple burger sauce with lots of pepper jack cheese, light dose of onions. Juicy goodness! Curly fries were hot and crispy, great with mustard. Service was friendly and prompt. Lunch for $18.25, I will return when I get a craving for a cheese burger!

Yelp
Good service. Great shakes. Really bad food. Wouldn't go back, except for the milkshakes.
google avatar

Yelp
Solid meal with fun atmosphere for the kiddo. Burger was really tasty and onion rings had a great crispiness. Kiddo enjoyed watching old-fashioned Popeye and Pink Panther cartoons while munching on his burger and fries. Fries also seemed good. Would just change up the milkshake flavor next time - Almond Roca was bit too sweet. Will stick with classic chocolate next time, but overall was very happy with the food and dining experience. Would def return. Server also very nice and friendly.

Yelp
We were in Lincoln city for the weekend and it was rough trying to like for a breakfast place on a Sunday morning. Every place had a huge line. We were about to give up and go to McDonald's and decided to try this place. We came on 30 minutes after opening and was told to sit anywhere we'd like. Ordered our food and in less than 20 mins, got it. Milkshake, clam chowder, burgers and fries all delicious. Glad we stopped here and not have waited an hour to eat. Service was amazing that day.

Yelp
I'm not sure who to contact but our experience this evening with food quality and service was not good. I understand food service as we know that everywhere lacks I was patient as well as my child. Food is different now? Your burgers are not the same at all and your fries changed to pre bought instead of cut in house and fried up which was the best thing ever. Your fries were served to us cold to Luke warm and not fresh. Your house burger sauce is very different and is a chipotle spicy sauce. Your lettuce is not the same on burgers that you had and promote online, your bacon changed, you don't add many ingredients and even the tomato was a sad thin slice not fresh. We loved going to you guys and now I won't be wasting $45 on myself and child to enjoy the diner until you stop being "lost". What the heck happened to your food? Your food was right up there with Helvetia tavern is what I explained to everyone but not anymore! Your coleslaw is not the original vinegar based anymore and also has gone very down hill.
google avatar

Maggie L.

Yelp
Definitely one of the best Ruben Sandwiches I have ever had, my friend had a burger and said it was delicious also.
google avatar

Yelp
Rarely do you experience a breakfast where you have all of the boxes checked. The kitchen makes a great over medium egg (so often when you ask for over medium and you get runny or hard fried) and the chicken fried steak was unique in a wonderful way. We also got the boozy milkshakes and both flavor combos were absolutely spot on with the right amount of booze! The service was incredible, food is great, and the price is like inflation has not happened. They have a good thing going here, check it out before it's the smash of the town.

Yelp
So.... I was really excited to come here.....BUT.......It was a HUGE disappointment The food was blah, the service was even worse. And let's not talk about table clean and whatnot. We were ignored before our order was taken, while waiting for our order(waited on drinks and appetizers, which came with our main meal) and after it was FINALLY delivered. Our food was either overcooked or cold also. I wasn't aware that wearing a midriff-baring shirt to serve food and be in the kitchen was appropriate either As for cleanliness, well.... just pray I guess if you believe in that. I will not be back to this location!! Maybe Lincoln city is better? Not high hopes AT ALL though!!

D D.

Yelp
The food was ok, but nothing I'd go back for. The staff was nice when they interacted with us but they were mostly concerned with each other and not their customers.

A M.

Yelp
Food was horrible, burger so raw that it soaked the bun red and soggy/inedible. Service was bizarre and poor at the same time. Asked if they had a pale ale or lager, waitress dropped off what we presume was IPA based on taste. Asked to come back when she was done placing orders so we could order ice cream. Started dishing up ice cream before we could even tell what we wanted. Won't be back.

Yelp
This place is truly a hidden gem in the tualatin area. Now I will admit, the burger patty itself isn't very special but the toppings, bun and house sauce is superb but combine that with an incredibly nostalgic atmosphere and it really feels like you hopped in a Time Machine and are in a diner from the 60s. There was a burger place I loved as a kid in Tigard and they sadly left decades ago and I swear this place makes me think of that place everytime I take a bite into the burger. Would highly recommend this place to any retro and/or burger lovers.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing Milkshakes and burgers. Diner themed around 60's pop and movies didn't disappoint at all. Service was great and very friendly staff.

Yelp
I did eat here this year. The decor was very cute and they had old cartoons and sitcoms playing on the big televisions decorating the walls. The place was styled up fun. The shakes were fantastic. We ordered a strawberry banana shake and it was definitely big enough to share with two people. I would go back for a shake. The burgers and fries were just average. The waitress asked what sauces we wanted. We got ketchup, ranch, honey mustard, and bbq. She charged us a $1 for two of the sauces. That's a bit annoying since we thought that they were complimentary. They are free at most places unless there is an up charge. We were never told about a charge and didn't find one on the menu either. I was intrigued to learn that the original cafe is in Lincoln City, OR. I might go back, but I actually like Red Robin just as much and Red Robin is just alright too - nothing outstanding. This place is a Fun alternative if you are in Tualatin and want a themed throwback dining experience. Get a shake.

Jaison D.

Yelp
Cool Ambience with 60's Stars picture everywhere and best Milk shakes and Burger. Clam Chowder was good. Friendly staffs.

Nancy H.

Yelp
4if us had different food items. Corn dogs, chicken strips and the John Wayne burger. Asked for no tomatoes on burger but they put them on anyway. So had to remove lettuce so I wouldn't get any seeds from them. Didn't want to hold everyone up so didn't send it back. Cherry milkshakes were delicious. $$$. Service was great
google avatar

Yelp
My wife and I tried this restaurant for the first time last night. Good food! We both had the bacon burger with Fries and I had a chocolate malt. These were good diner burgers! What I liked about the malt was that they give you the extra in the steel mixing cup like the old days. If you haven't tried it yet do so. I expected it to be very busy on. Sunday evening, but I think we were the only ones there. Surprising, since everything else around there appears to be closed. Go send them some business and you won't be disappointed. We will definitely go back.
google avatar

Sandy H.

Yelp
If you have the money to spend for a $7 Shake, or whatever the hell price it is, they are pretty good. They use Top Notch ice cream. Can't say much for the burgers, but the fries are hand cut and the onion rings are really good. Chili's not bad either

steve w.

Yelp
Food was so bad that a review doesn't do any good, Service was just as bad...and the Ambiance was just that...somebody left there motorcycle out.
google avatar

Joel M.

Yelp
Cool place! Would be even cooler if lights were turned down, they're blinding. Feels like an office. Service and food were good.

Yelp
Hidden gem! As soon as you walk in it's a vibe! From the decor to the music. Clean and spacious. Food delicious we got the chili fries and chicken strips with two toasted almond milkshakes which were superb. Ashley our server and bartender was a blessing! So sweet and attentive. Thank you to all staff, very friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
Ordered food from them through Grub Hub. When it was delivered we were missing a sandwich and a rootbeer float. Annoying but it happens. Had Grub Hub refund us for the 2 items. Called the dinner to let them know that there maybe an issue with their ticketing from Gub Hub because the receipt from the dinner didn't show the items as being ordered. However we were charged for the items. Joey the Manager on duty called and left a voice mail was extremely rude to my wife and said that he would be contacting Gub Hub and denying our refund claim. When my wife called back and tried to explain that we were not blaming them and that it looked like Grub Hub had not processed the order correctly. He rudely interrupted her and then hung up on us. I called back from my phone to try to get this sorted and Joey immediately told me that we wouldn't be getting our refund for the items and that "CLEARLY" this isn't her first time doing this. Here is the problem Joey. We have never ordered from your dinner before. And thanks to your horrible, rude and disrespectful service we will never order from this place again. Bad boy Joey.

Jennifer F.

Yelp
The food was awful. We ordered mozzarella sticks and it was basically string cheese cut in half, breaded and deep fried and the marinara sauce was chilled! My fries came to the table cold, my hamburger was overcooked and so dry, even with spread on. I could barely swallow it.
google avatar

Sara Y.

Yelp
We went to this newly opened location for dinner tonight. Service was great. My husband had a mix up with his burger but they fixed it without issue and it was tasty (not pictured). My son was pleased with the corn dog. The chili fries were so-so but I enjoyed the $5 draft beer. The restaurant was clean, love the 60s ambiance!

Angela T.

Yelp
Really good food and great service! Don't forget to save room for the milkshakes. Great for family.

Jenine V.

Yelp
Excellent food and very friendly atmosphere They are very generous with their milkshakes and the potato salad is yummy

Jack D.

Yelp
Joey was great- food was hot and delicious, served quickly with a smile and such kindness. Very grateful to this team and the care I was given while here. I would check this place out if you enjoy decent food, calm energy, and a cold beer paired with some classic jams.

Victoria S.

Yelp
The cutest ambience, relaxed, & great boozy milkshakes. Good service and they were cool with my friend and I sitting a few hours to chat.

Ashley Z.

Yelp
Burgers were good and the location definitely has a fun vibe. All around I can't say we were impressed by the value though. Offerings were really standard with nothing out of the ordinary and somewhat pricey for what you get.

Joni T.

Yelp
Place is great! Get a burger and a milkshake and enjoy life! I also would recommend their 21+ shakes!
google avatar

John R.

Yelp
Excellent service and great food! The chili cheese fries are to kill for. Portion size is OMFG size. Christy , our waitress was down to earth and very friendly. If you want to have a good meal/experience, I'd come here!
google avatar

Steve M.

Yelp
Been wanting to try and finally made it. My wife and I had burgers fries and shared a chocolate malt. Malt was very good. We felt the burgers were frozen because they were quite dense. Atmosphere was what we expected for a 60s diner. The place was clean and the service was good. Our waitress was A+
google avatar

steve k.

Yelp
We will be coming back!! Food was delicious and very fresh. Milkshake was old school! Service was spot on. Definitely a 60's diner atmosphere. The topper was the old cartoons playing on the tv's... watched a bunch of Popeye cartoons. They had Casper and a couple of others playing as well... see you again soon!!

Noreen G.

Yelp
Being a "Boomer", I thought I would try this place. I went during Happy Hour, there were only three other people there. The HH menu had mostly small plate items, fries, onion rings etc. so I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with fries and a Pepsi. I was served the worst grilled Cheese I'd ever had....hard to screw up a grilled cheese, right? Wrong! It was very dry, the bread was like dry toast, not a hint of butter or other oil-type thing to grill it. It was was more like a "toasted cheese" sandwich. The cheddar cheese was so skimpy, I could hardly see or taste it. I asked an employee about their fries and was told they were almost like steak fries....They were coated with some crunchy type covering, more like some fast food place. The service was only fair, I had to call her back to ask for a napkin! I asked for a little mayo and she brought me a little cup of warm, translucent (old) "mayo". When it came time to pay, I was charged $3.00 for a Pepsi and The HH menu, which had cocktails on it, stated "a dollar off for other beverages". I questioned why she didn't take $1 off and she said something about how she couldn't get the computer to deduct it. I won't be going back...

Yelp
Come visit me at the 60's Cafe and Diner! Mention this post and I'll hook you up I noticed some previous reviews and I can tell you they've worked out the kinks. The place has only been open for 4 months and it can be very difficult for a new restaurant, especially in these current times. If you've been before but didn't have a great experience, please come back so we can take care of you! I look forward to serving you!
google avatar

Fred R.

Yelp
Great place for casual lunch or dinner. Period posters, old cartoons playing and even a jukebox! Food is pure 60's hang out food. Burgers, shakes, hot dogs and more! Alittle spendy but fun and worth it!
google avatar

Maree R.

Yelp
I want to loves this restaurant, truly! I will start with what I do love, their shakes. Last night I ordered a cheeseburger with a full basket of onion rings. Onion rings are fine but the cheeseburger was bad. I took one or two bites and that was it. The meat quality is poor and there was grizzle in the patty. I was so disappointed with the lack of seasoning in the beef, if the quality is that low jazz it up a bit. Also I understand filling positions is tough currently and it seems to be family/friend ran but the service is so incredibly slow for the amount of patrons.

Yelp
This place has awesome food and fantastic service. My husband and I found this place on our lunch break and have continued to come back. Christy is awesome and will make sure your dining experience is perfect.
