Malta’s Hotels Are the Stuff of Dreams

"Named for its address, 66 St. Paul’s is a restored 17th-century palazzo in Valletta’s historic old town, one whose public spaces retain their historical limestone architecture and centuries-old atmosphere even as its rooms, the occasional weathered stone wall aside, are pure 21st-century contemporary classic." - Mitchell Friedman

In Malta, Roman Ruins and Natural Wine Bars Sit Side by Side

"Valletta has wonderful palazzo hotels, like 66 Saint Paul's (doubles from $315), with a sweet rooftop pool."

Each room is unique, owing to the palazzo’s historical floor plan, but all are handsome, with modern luxury-boutique comforts. Bathrooms are modern, and all come equipped with a walk-in shower or bath and Molton Brown amenities. There’s a small but impressive spa, and while breakfast and a café are the extent of the food and beverage offerings, the hotel’s central location means you’re steps away from a wealth of fine options." - Tablet Hotels

Beautiful fully restored boutique hotel right in the heart of Valletta. The location of this one is everything! Took my mum who can’t walk far and we were able to go out every night without walking too far. The small rooftop pool isn’t large at all but it didn’t need to be. Perfect for a cool dip after a hot day. The service from the staff was more than exemplary and booking a massage downstairs in the spa was a real added bonus. Edwin was so lovely to us when we checked in after a late flight, special commendation for him and all the lovely girls that looked after us for breakfast. The interior rooms are a nice size with AC and gorgeous bedsheets. I would’ve given 5 stars but unfortunately I had to ask if they could vacuum under the bed after noticing a thick buildup and previous guests clothing. Which was rectified straight away. Apart from that, the bathrooms are large and clean. The design is minimalistic with enough storage, perfect for travelling as we didn’t plan to spend much time in the rooms, being so close to the city centre. Would highly recommend for couples or elderly guests especially due to the proximity to everything. Thank you for a very special week. ☺️

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the 66 St Paul. All of the staff were amazing and Tracy in particular was a standout. She went out of her way to find us a fantastic driver/guide for a day. Made excellent arrangements and suggestions. The room was absolutely perfect and the view of the harbor was spectacular, especially in the evening. I highly recommend the upper floor rooms with a balcony or the penthouse suite if it is available. All of the staff members were extremely helpful and accommodating, kind and friendly. I highly recommend staying here and should we return to Valletta I will definitely be staying at the 66 St Paul.

The hotel was truly a little piece of history. Our room was two levels and we had the original floors which are over 600 years old. The service and kindness at this property were none that we’ve ever experienced. We have been to many hotels in the US and abroad and I will rate this as my top two. The breakfast was absolutely amazing. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and helped us to navigate the area and find some of the best spots to eat drink and visit. We plan on returning to Malta and staying at this beautiful boutique Hotel again.

Such a lovely hotel. Staff were incredible and made us feel so welcome. We were able to walk everywhere including to ferry to take us to catamaran marina. |We’re so glad in stayed in the old town. Cruise had put people in Intercontinental and we were pleased we didn’t go there. |Hope to return to hotel in the future.

A truly fantastic place to stay. The interior of the hotel is architecturally beautiful as are the rooms. The staff are very professional and really knowledgeable how to look after thier guests. There is a rooftop pool and sunbathing area where they are happy to bring up snacks and drinks. I cannot state how good all of the staff were. There are lots of transport links and ferries nearby and the staff on the front desk will help you with any travel plans. I highly recommend this if you are staying in Valletta

I spent 4 nights at this hotel recently with a friend and we shared a twin room (103). What a fabulous experience it was. The hotel staff are a huge credit to this hotel - customer service at its very best. From check in with Max who is warm, engaging and very professional to the staff serving coffee and breakfast - not one ask was ever too much. ||The hotel is perfectly situated with shops, bars, restaurants and the wealth of Valletta’s rich history is within easy walking distance. There are a lot of steps so anyone with mobility niggles may find it a challenge at times. But for us, it was fine.||The hotel itself is a small boutique hotel, elegant and stylish. Our room faced the courtyard and although we thought that may be a problem with no real natural light to speak of, it was fine. The room was a good size, the beds comfortable, gorgeous bed linen - made for a superb night’s sleep! We had a couple of small issues which were quickly dealt with. I would say the bathroom could benefit from a couple of extra hooks and an additional shelf for storage and an efficient extractor fan as there was no window but otherwise, the shower it was perfectly fine. ||Breakfast was fabulous! Delicious coffee every morning made to order, and an array of cereals, yoghurt, fresh fruit (including melon slices a plenty), bread, muffins, cheese, hams, Parma ham, boiled eggs, pancakes made to order some mornings and delicious home made cakes and local savoury and sweet pastries. Yum! ||The pool on the roof was a bonus - not many loungers as the area is quite small but we made good use of it on a couple of afternoons. It is a lovely space with a great view out to the harbour.||I can’t recommend this hotel highly enough. A big thank you to everyone who made the stay really special. I will be back with my husband next time and we may opt for one of the rooms on the 5th or 6th floor which have verandas with great views overlooking the harbour. So, until next time!

66 St Pauls is fantastic. I have no negative things to say about it. Location- fabulous: centrally situated and only minutes walking distance away from town centre, harbour, etc. Staff- really nice people. From the waiting staff, the health spa, and the cleaning staff- all were great. We got a unique welcome after we arrived- a complimentary drink and some valuable hints and tips about what to see, where to eat etc. Maximilian is a great fellow, and really attentive and helpful. He is passionate about Malta and it shines through. The room was great- high ceilings with cut stone walls overlooking the central courtyard. It was quiet and shady, which is just what we wanted. Breakfast was delicious- cold meats, juices, pastries, etc. Everything you need. The small rooftop pool and lounge area is a welcome treat after a day out in the sunshine. We've fallen in love with Malta, and 66 St Pauls played no small part

This place was amazing- very friendly welcoming staff, including locals Maximilian and Tracy. The hotel is a very tastefully restored building with a lot of history, it also has a stunning rooftop with pool and deck chairs. The staff are all very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them- from recommendations, very nice breakfast, great conversation and even beer and drinks on check in which we throughly enjoyed. Max was an especially awesome and helpful guy and I thoroughly enjoyed talking about growing up in Malta vs Australia (for me with Maltese heritage). This was my second time in Malta- and I plan to come back more often, this is one place I really look forward to coming back for if the opportunity arises.
