Malta’s Hotels Are the Stuff of Dreams

"Named for its address, 66 St. Paul’s is a restored 17th-century palazzo in Valletta’s historic old town, one whose public spaces retain their historical limestone architecture and centuries-old atmosphere even as its rooms, the occasional weathered stone wall aside, are pure 21st-century contemporary classic." - Mitchell Friedman

In Malta, Roman Ruins and Natural Wine Bars Sit Side by Side

"Valletta has wonderful palazzo hotels, like 66 Saint Paul's (doubles from $315), with a sweet rooftop pool."

66 St Pauls is fantastic. I have no negative things to say about it. Location- fabulous: centrally situated and only minutes walking distance away from town centre, harbour, etc. Staff- really nice people. From the waiting staff, the health spa, and the cleaning staff- all were great. We got a unique welcome after we arrived- a complimentary drink and some valuable hints and tips about what to see, where to eat etc. Maximilian is a great fellow, and really attentive and helpful. He is passionate about Malta and it shines through. The room was great- high ceilings with cut stone walls overlooking the central courtyard. It was quiet and shady, which is just what we wanted. Breakfast was delicious- cold meats, juices, pastries, etc. Everything you need. The small rooftop pool and lounge area is a welcome treat after a day out in the sunshine. We've fallen in love with Malta, and 66 St Pauls played no small part

This place was amazing- very friendly welcoming staff, including locals Maximilian and Tracy. The hotel is a very tastefully restored building with a lot of history, it also has a stunning rooftop with pool and deck chairs. The staff are all very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them- from recommendations, very nice breakfast, great conversation and even beer and drinks on check in which we throughly enjoyed. Max was an especially awesome and helpful guy and I thoroughly enjoyed talking about growing up in Malta vs Australia (for me with Maltese heritage). This was my second time in Malta- and I plan to come back more often, this is one place I really look forward to coming back for if the opportunity arises.

We stayed at this hotel for five days in April. The breakfast was lovely, with plenty of variety, and we were additionally served coffee or tea at the table. We had our stay in the grand suite, the room was beautiful and spacious. The bed was very comfortable, and the room was cleaned everyday. The shower was very pleasant, and all necessary facilities were available! The staff was also incredibly friendly—nothing was too much to ask. You could approach them with anything. We were offered a welcome drink and some information about the history of Malta upon arrival. I personally requested extra air conditioning, and within 15 minutes, an extra fan was brought to the room. The location of the hotel was perfect. Close to public transport and to the ferry terminal. Also easy to reach by taxi. Valletta is a beautiful city full of history, and everything else on the island is also easy to access. The area around the hotel was peaceful and calm, which made for a relaxing stay.

I spent 4 nights at this hotel recently with a friend and we shared a twin room (103). What a fabulous experience it was. The hotel staff are a huge credit to this hotel - customer service at its very best. From check in with Max who is warm, engaging and very professional to the staff serving coffee and breakfast - not one ask was ever too much. ||The hotel is perfectly situated with shops, bars, restaurants and the wealth of Valletta’s rich history is within easy walking distance. There are a lot of steps so anyone with mobility niggles may find it a challenge at times. But for us, it was fine.||The hotel itself is a small boutique hotel, elegant and stylish. Our room faced the courtyard and although we thought that may be a problem with no real natural light to speak of, it was fine. The room was a good size, the beds comfortable, gorgeous bed linen - made for a superb night’s sleep! We had a couple of small issues which were quickly dealt with. I would say the bathroom could benefit from a couple of extra hooks and an additional shelf for storage and an efficient extractor fan as there was no window but otherwise, the shower it was perfectly fine. ||Breakfast was fabulous! Delicious coffee every morning made to order, and an array of cereals, yoghurt, fresh fruit (including melon slices a plenty), bread, muffins, cheese, hams, Parma ham, boiled eggs, pancakes made to order some mornings and delicious home made cakes and local savoury and sweet pastries. Yum! ||The pool on the roof was a bonus - not many loungers as the area is quite small but we made good use of it on a couple of afternoons. It is a lovely space with a great view out to the harbour.||I can’t recommend this hotel highly enough. A big thank you to everyone who made the stay really special. I will be back with my husband next time and we may opt for one of the rooms on the 5th or 6th floor which have verandas with great views overlooking the harbour. So, until next time!

We did not stay at this hotel but we went into hotel for help as the scammed white taxi company dropped my friend and I outside and not the hotel we wanted to go to. Tracy the manager was so nice and as we were upset gave us coffee and water and arranged for a member of staff to take us to the hotel we had booked in to. She also offered her help if we needed anything during our stay Going by the excellent treatment I would definitely stay at 66 Dt Paul’s.The staff are amazing. Thank you Tracy and wonderful staff Angie and Jan

As echoed in other reviews this is the most beautiful property! Staff are fantastic and the interior is amazing. We had the Penthouse and the views are breathtaking. |To get some history spend some time talking tonight Edwin (apologies if the spelling is incorrect!) He is the most interesting gentleman who has a wealth of knowledge about the hotel and Malta.|Can’t rate this hotel highly enough. |Perfect central location to explore Valletta and the surrounding area.

We stayed here for 5 nights in February as a couples city break/sightseeing holiday. The location is very good and central in Valletta. Check in was easy and we had a nice introduction to the hotel and Malta's history by Maximillian on arrival. Max was very nice and helpful with other requests also during our stay. The hotel interior is very nice and traditional, facilities were very clean and presentable. During our stay there was the local Feast of St Paul celebrations in the street and this was a perfect location to see this during our stay. The rooftop deck is a nice view of Valletta with a small pool and would be perfect during the spring/summer months. We went to look at the spa downstairs and although didn't use it, it did look lovely albeit very expensive. |The only let down with this review was our room, although it was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed, it didn't really seem like a boutique hotel vibe - almost just like any other basic hotel room, it was quite dark, there was no view, only out to the stairs, and also very warm and we were not able to use the air con during winter months. I felt it was a little basic compared to the images on the website. I couldn't tell if all of the rooms were the same or if there were maybe others with a better view available.|The breakfast area was nice and cosy, good options available for a continental breakfast but it would have also have been nice to have the option of a hot breakfast. Overall, for the value this hotel was good and served its purpose, we enjoyed our stay however if visiting Valletta again I would possibly look into another boutique hotel just due to the room.

The hotel is in a gorgeous refurbished townhouse and packed full of lovely details. The rooms are spacious and comfy and the breakfasts are delicious. The hotel is in the perfect location for exploring valetta and you can get a great view of the harbour from the rooftop pool and bar area. Great for sunbathing!
