The ‘Summer House’ Cast's Guide To The Hamptons

"You'll catch me here more often than not. I love that it's not a dive, but it kind of has the feeling of of something way more chill. The ambiance is a surf shack that's kind of mixed up with some Moroccan decor—a little confusing, but I'm always obsessed. I feel at home there all the time. They have the best pulled pork empanadas that I've had in my life, and the dipping sauce is just out of this world. I get them every single time I step foot in there. Their drinks are amazing. The vibe is just immaculate. They have live music—not like Surf Lodge's, the kind where it's a guy on his acoustic guitar and you're throwing some dollar bills into the bucket. That's the vibe."—DO" - brennan carley

The scallops salad was amazing! The pork empanadas and shack burger were good too. The chefs in The Gig Shack really know how to show off their culinary skills. It’s a little bit pricey, but I think it’s worthwhile to try the delicious food there.

Google
Food was amazing!!! Smashed potatoes, ribs, burger were all so delicious. Margarita was great! My little also enjoyed his grilled cheese and ate every single fry 😂 Presentation was great too! I wish we lived here to eat all year round but sadly we’re on vacation. Loved the atmosphere! Sitting outside was so nice. The weather was perfect. Will definitely be coming back to eat here every time we visit MTK!

Convenient place to stop on the way to the lighthouse. Limited & overpriced menu. mussels (~35 pcs) taste good but sauce was just OK. The bathroom is disgusting; my hands came back dirtier after washing in the sink’s unclear water.

Google
Very cute casual spot. Food was really good and beautifully plated but a bit pricey. Was very exited for the croissant lobster roll but croissant was stale for being $50.

Google

I had such a great experience. The seafood was so fresh and delicious, the drink was ok but honestly I was there for the food.

Yelp
Came here for dinner on a weekend get away with my wife to Montouk and the food here was amazing. Upon arriving the inside was packed, and me and my wife really didn't want an eat outside because it was cold that night. The waitstaff guy outside was very nice and sat me and my wife next to a lamp that was outside and it was a little warmer. For an appetizer we got a Cuban empanada and it was out of this world. A lil small and you only got one for $12 dollars but it was excellent. For entrees I got a pat La Frieda bacon cheese burger that was out of this world. I love pat La Frieda blend of burgers and steaks. Pat La Frieda is too tier and the burger was amazing. My wife got the Hawaiian baby back ribs that were some of the best ribs I had in a long time. Ribs were small but very good and packing a lot of flavor. They give you a full rack and the corn bread that comes with it was some of the best corn bread I ever had. This place was very good and I highly recommend if you're staying in Montauk.

Yelp
Wow! Heads up - the juicy, delicious lamb sliders can spray you with delicious flavors, napkins advised. Spicy Thai muscles are perfectly cooked. I am gluten free, loved the delicious gf bun. Why can't more restaurants have buns like these. Beach chic beauties are smart, nice & attentive. The atmosphere is very chill, right off the beach. Outdoor seating recommended
google avatar

Hanna S.

Yelp
Really decent little spot with great atmosphere (live music) and good food. Came here for dinner in the summer and enjoyed some beers with the pork empanada, gem salad, and fish montacos. The food wasn't mind-blowing but everything tasted pretty good and very fresh.
google avatar

Lilliana C.

Yelp
Hands down, the best food I've had in a long time. The lemon Caesar salad, smashed potatoes with herby sauce, and spanakopita over couscous were all incredible. We visited in October and sat on the enclosed patio, which was pretty cold, but the live music and the local vibe made it worth it. Service was good, and the whole experience felt authentic and laid-back. Definitely a gem in Montauk!

Yelp
We were looking for a casual restaurant to eat at and someone at our hotel recommended we visit 668. It was in the perfect location for us to walk around downtown Montauk. We were able to be seated right away even though they were pretty busy. I loved that they offer GF buns so I ordered a lobster roll on. GF bun. We both ordered drinks as well that were really good. I love that even if you're sitting inside, due to the open doors and windows, it basically has an indoor-outdoor vibe. This was such a good place to stop before walking all over the area and enjoying the day. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
If you're in Montauk, you HAVE TO stop at the Gigshack. The food, service, and entertainment are so good. We went on a Monday night and we were surprised that they were already pretty crowded by 6:30pm. Arrive early as they do not take reservations. We got and loved the following: - Tuna tartare taquitos: 2 per order. Very light and refreshing. Perfect for sharing. - Pulled pork empanada: 1 per order. We cut it in half (but we also ended up ordering a second one because it was so good) for sharing. The pork is so tender and covered in a delicious sauce. This was such a good empanada! Served with some really good coleslaw. - The lobster roll! OMG - did these folks invent lobster roll on a croissant because it was both genius and delicious. Ignore the price tag, it's worth it. The croissant is piled high with lots of delicious lobster meat. We almost ordered a second one of these, but we were pretty full. - The key lime pie was also really delicious. The crust was full of flavor. Our server was extremely friendly, event amidst a packed restaurant. She even offered to bring us additional toasted bread for the sauce that came with our clams. The live music was also great. We'll definitely go back to the Gigshack the next time we're in Montauk.

Yelp
They only take walk ups but the wait was not long at all. They were super busy but the staff was pretty attentive. We had to sit outside because we had our dog with us so I can't say much about ambiance, but it was a Sunday night and they had live music which was nice. We started with the blueberry lemonade whisky drink which was so refreshing and delicious. Then we got the Caesar salad which has dill in it and croissant croutons - unreal. I got the lobster roll (Maine style) which comes on a homemade croissant and it was delicious. There was just enough dill on there and it was so fresh. The slaw on the side was also phenomenal and the fries were perfectly crispy. Definitely worth checking out!
google avatar

Stephanie G.

Yelp
If you love caesar salad like I do, you HAVE to go here during the open season. Their caesar salad incorporates dill into their home made caesar dressing and it is delicious beyond words. The croutons are made of toasted croissants. I mean, do I really need to say more about how insanely wonderful these salads are?! I have never craved salad before in my life until I tried this one. Every year I look forward to my trips to Montauk and the highlight of the trip is always my meal at the gig shack. There is nothing like it!

Yelp
We needed to have lunch after visiting the Montauk Lighthouse. We wanted just a light bite... my hubby ordered the Lamborghini (lamb sliders). They were served with red cabbage Cole slaw, which was quite tasty and enjoyable. The slider was okay initially as well. The ground lamb must have had a bone shard in it.... Hubby bit off a bite and broke his tooth. That was a bummer. I had the grilled asparagus with a sunny-side-up egg. This was a great play on a Hollandaise sauce... to complete the effect, I would have squeezed a lemon over the dish for that bite of freshness, or at least served with a lemon wedge. But, the dish was pretty and tasty! The vibe is fun, the music great.
google avatar

Gina B.

Yelp
Legit a must try while in Montauk. I go here often and it never disappoints. Hands down the best Caesar salad with a lemony twist i've ever had, more than enough for two to share. If you like lamb you gotta try the Lamborghinis. Everything is so good.
google avatar

Yelp
I am sorry to say I had been sleeping on Gigshack! Been coming to Montauk every summer for 15+ years and never came to Gigshack, assuming it was just drinks. However, I am so thankful we came in for dinner as it was one of the most delicious restaurants we have been to in Montauk. We had a table of 8 and were served so smoothly and the food was literally smoking hot. We tried almost everything on the menu, and everything is delicious, but I highly recommend the smashed potatoes and spanakopita! Will be back soon hungry for more :D
google avatar

Christine S.

Yelp
This was a great dinner. Service was attentive and friendly. The lamb sliders were delicious as an app. I had the chicken dish which was very flavorful. Overall it was a great dinner, just thought it was a bit pricey for what it was. But we would definitely return!
google avatar

Yelp
Great food! Friendly service and nice vibe. We had fish tacos and the Hawaiian bbq ribs.. both were good.

Yelp
Surprisingly spectacular meal. Tuna tartare taquitos were amazing. I'll dream of them for quite some time. I would return and recommend to others.

Yelp
Giving the menu a once-over will confirm you're "not in Kansas anymore" as far as dining prices are concerned, but that is Montauk for you! As far as options for dinner in the area go, the Gigshack is a casual spot with decent service and a menu comparable to other places nearby. I ordered probably one of the most expensive hamburgers of my life here, and while it was good, I wasn't awed.

Emelyn G.

Yelp
I will have to say i was not disappointed. The Lamborghini sliders were delicious, its the next day and im still thinking about it (I wish i took a pic). The fish tacos were a good size and delicious as well. I 100% recommend this place !

Yelp
A beautiful day called for a trip to the end of Long Island and what a day it was. We got to Montauk later in the morning and were able to enjoy some of the shops before making our way to the The Gigshack for lunch. Viewing their Instagram, we learned that they have a number of specials but they're usually prepared for dinner. They look so good and our lunch was stellar so we can't wait to come back for dinner next time. We also learned that they come up with the specials that day Their specials are super creative and you'd be doing yourself a disservice by not trying them. People were waiting outside for the Gigshack to open and to be seated. Me and my cousin were one of those people. Even though it was such a gorgeous day we decide to dine indoors, but being this place is on the smaller side we didn't feel too far from all the other diners. We also weren't too far from the bar. We started out with a drink that had a popsicle swimming in a glass of Prosecco and it was the perfect drink for a nice summer day. We also had a long day ahead of us so we decided to split a few items that included the tuna tartare tacos, the pork empanada, and the Lamborghinis which were little lamb sliders. Everything was delicious and I couldn't ask for a better way to start the day. Definitely make your way here if you're in the area. Between the awesome service and the stellar food you will not be disappointed!

Yelp
THE LIMONCELLO MARSCAPONE CAKE IS GONE! That is why we went there for dinner in the first place. The waitress told us they stopped serving it because it was made by an outside vendor and they wanted to make everything in-house. That got me thinking that the rest of the food would be terrific... My partner had mussels with white wine sauce which she liked except for the very salty brine. It came with a good portion of delicious, crusty bread. No bread for the table tho. I had the ribs with coleslaw and cornbread. The ribs were ok. Tender, small enough to eat them all (a baby pig or a hungry eater?). The cornbread was toasty and warm. The homemade coleslaw with nothing to note. For dessert we tried the famous Key Lime Pie. We split it so the calories would fall out. It also was just ok. Thank heaven it had no dye. The flavor was of lime, not too bitter nor too sweet. The thick graham cracker crust was pretty crunchy so a nice texture. But it wouldn't lure us back for dinner like the Limonchello cake. The atmosphere was very noisy and people were crowded in. The table next to us was set for 4 but, because there was a bench seat, 5 were seated there. We like to chat as we eat but, since we are old & need hearing aids, we could not. Service was great. Prompt and pleasant even tho they were slammed. The wait staff really work hard. Bottom line, this is a place for the younger or more feisty crowd. We didn't drink or try many menu items and it looked like there were a lot of good share dishes and appetizers. Maybe we would have been better going at lunch?

Yelp
Every single thing I put in my mouth was a 10/10 highly recommend the burger, tuna tacos, coleslaw, and Caesar salad
google avatar

Yelp
Food was amazing. We had the muscles and empanadas and both were fantastic. Great food, great cocktails and wonderful service. This place is perfect for a summer stop!

Yelp
Absolutely worth the hype! My husband, son and I went for lunch during our trip. Food was excellent. The Caesar salad was one of the best I've ever had! The Lamborghini and pork empanadas were also amazing!

Yelp
The most reason why I'm here is this place is dog friendly restaurant. I took my spoiled puppy with me on a small vacation trip so everywhere I go. They welcomed me good. In the summer can be hot so the table under the shade isn't a lot so ppl is a bit afraid to bring their dog close to my table. But we were able to manage 3 dog tables to be sit close by and be peaceful. Mostly work credit to dogs owner not a restaurant staff. Service was just ok, I had to ask for water and stuff but they gave me everything I asked for that was fine. Food was fine. Overall, this place is good, if you travel with your pet, this restaurant is one of the places you can bring your fido to.
google avatar

Gina L.

Yelp
DOG FRIENDLY!!!! such an amazing bonus when visiting montauk. They have an indoor section that is friendly for dogs and an outdoor section as well thag is covered and heated/cooled depending on the season. The food here was pretty good. I was happy they had a beyond burger here for a vegan option. I would 100% come back here, but wish they had a little more variety in foods for different diets.

Yelp
these guys are the best! Consistent Staff, who is really good at listening to what you want and delivering. The vibe is so relaxed and welcoming. Great place to have lunch when you're staying in town. Food is inventive and always delicious. Staff really cares! Definitely go!

Britney L.

Yelp
we walked from the hotel to the restaurant with my 2 y/o son in his radio flyer wagon (the wagon folds up). When we got to the restaurant The hostess Jessica told us we can sit outside at the picnic table (after she looked inside a nearly empty restaurant). Before we left, we went to try to go inside to watch the football game and ths receptionist Jessica told us to move to the corner of the restaurant which already was full of people. she clearly was not a kid person, which isn't my 2 year old sons fault! She was so rude and nasty and she mqde our whole experience horrible!!!! we come to gigshack every year but this year was absolutely horrible. I will never be going back. They should hire people that are respectful of their customers!!!

JoHn K.

Yelp
Some buddies and I did a Boys Roadtrip to Montauk to take in the Lighthouse, beach and do some trail running at Park. Stop in here for lunch. I order the fish Montacos. Got to say some of the BEST fish taco I had in a long while. The typical ingredients were amazingly fresh and flavorful. Love it. Totally will and need to come back. Staff was great too. Attentive and friendly. My friends had the burger which they loved too. Kudos! Definitely worth a visit

Maureen T.

Yelp
This cute little place right in town never fails to impress. The shrimp tacos are a must. Love their mussels and the watermelon margarita is the bomb

Nicole H.

Yelp
This is the most fun dining and listening experience in Montauk. We make this our first stop on every visit. Erin was an awesome server and made our experience one of the best. Thank you again Gig Shack!

Stella S.

Yelp
a stable in Montauk and a must fine all summer long. Food is always consistent and great. Friendly staff and professional. There's nothing to not love about this place.

Beatrice R.

Yelp
Athmosphere was amazing, live music and phenomenal drinks. Food was very good and service fast and very nice. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Lakchmy O.

Yelp
Service was good, drinks were good, food was average and we paid almost $400 to eat with Ratatouille Jr. We informed our server, who seemed very chill about it. He offered us to go inside instead, we declined as placed was packed. We didn't made any fuss and actually ate at the place....I know!!!, but we did ‍
google avatar

Johnny G.

Yelp
No wonder it is one of the highest rated spots in Montauk. The food was fantastic. There are no reservations, it operates as first come, first serve. We went at 8:30 and had 35 min wait time. My group was able to walk to the beach and back which was nice. I went with the Lemon Caesar Salad. A little stingy with the protein but very flavorful. The watermelon basil cocktail was refreshing and strong. Our waiter was very patient with us. I was also picking at my friend's mussels which were mouth watering. Dope spot all and all!
google avatar

Ruby Q.

Yelp
Best lobster roll I have ever had. Fresh lobster cooked on premises nicely prepared in a sauce with notes of dill, and served on a croissant. It's $40 bucks but, dare I say worth it, if you have that kinda change to spend on lunch. The slaw on the side is top notch as well.
google avatar

K R.

Yelp
Loved the burger. Quality beef and the burger had that fresh grilled taste that is missing from so many places. The burger also had plenty of cheese and an excellent bun.
google avatar

Linda K.

Yelp
We were psyched to try out Gigshack's advertised concept - i.e. friendly new casual eatery w/outdoor seating and live music. Unfortunately the reality of our dinner experience didn't jive with that concept at all. Service was unfriendly, abrupt and pokey despite a slow evening. Portions were tiny but prices weren't. Think $16 for ONE small mushy crab cake and $20 for 4 puny scallops resting on a few greens. Billy Goat salad wasn't "shareable" by any means, a pricey paltry dish of greens with a few hard cold cheese balls. We had to ask for one soft drink refill which was grudgingly doled out way after we asked. We were still hungry after shelling out over $100 for two, without alcohol. We expect high prices in Montauk during the summer season, but this experience went above and beyond - and not in a good way. Not in a hurry to return.

Tiffany T.

Yelp
tl;dr service is friendly, food is a bit expensive (probably due to its convenient location on the main street). The best thing(s) on the menu are probably the shellfish (Clams a la Kasbah, Spicy Thai Mussels). The rest of my party ordered the Baby Back Ribs, Panko Crusted Fluke, and Tuna Tartar Tacos, and everyone felt underwhelmed. The food wasn't bad, but I think at the prices they are charging, everyone just expected more. Debated between 3 and 4 stars, because the shellfish really was good (and appropriately priced), but everyone kind of felt like we could've gone elsewhere for better food.
google avatar

Maya F.

Yelp
Visiting from the city and this place looked reasonable. The menu is quite small but has a variety of American options so it seems like everyone could find something they liked. The food was pretty good, nothing eventful. I know that it is an expensive area but still I thought the prices were a little ridiculous hence the loss of the second star. Their drink menu was outdated as well which is minor but still was annoying trying to order.
google avatar

Keith K.

Yelp
Got into town on a Thursday night and just happened to drop into Gigshack for dinner cause it looked like fun from the outside. What a great surprise! In addition to the cool vibe and great crowd, the food was not good, it was outstanding. They had a pasta and clams special which I ordered. Let me tell you. I've had pasta with clams at some of the best Italian restaurants in New York and abroad. This was by far the best ever. Loaded with fresh tasting clams, perfectly cooked spaghetti and loads of garlic and spicy pepper. So good! My friend had a Caesar salad with chicken which was huge and had cold, fresh tasting romaine with a perfect dressing. The Gigshack should be on your must go list for Montauk. BTW, very friendly staff.
google avatar

Al D.

Yelp
A very average menu, with average food, and way overpriced. Lovely staff, very friendly, but this place is a pass. There are better options in the area.

Yelp
If you have kids, allergies or class, avoid. Experience not worth the decent food. Ate here last night and experience was total disappointment. Was one of our first times eating out since welcoming our first kid seven weeks ago. He was with us in his stroller, sleeping like a champ. We asked to be seated outside, in case we needed to get up with him, and instead the male hostess sat us inside in the back corner table next to the loud bar and bathrooms. When my husband asked why we couldn't sit outside at one of the three open tables, which had room for a stroller and weren't for large parties (4 chairs...), he was told those were for 'premier guests' and were being saved. Never felt more discriminated against for having a kid. When we were about to leave from our inside table before ordering, a different female waitress found a way for us to magically sit at one outdoor table. Once seated outside, we ordered cocktails, apps and entrees. We asked if one dish we were going to order had mango, since I am allergic and we were told it did not. Other items on menu clearly had it labeled as mango this and that and we did not order. When my meal came, the side of rice had mango (unlisted). This seemed wild, given we had just asked the question re: mango and allergy. The person who didn't serve us just kept saying well you didn't tell me specifically. It was a surprise to learn I should have told every person working the restaurant my allergy to avoid issues... There was no apology, no alternate side of plain rice prepared, no refund. So we needed to race through the meal, pay our expensive bill and then dash to go get Benadryl before I turned into Will Smith from Hitch. Still got as rash later that night from the single bite of $34 entree I had... 0/10 experience.

Yelp
I was in Montauk for the day and decided to stop at the Gig Shack for lunch. I sat outside on the patio where they had some great music playing. I started with the pulled pork empanada which was spectacular. The shell was crispy, the meat was delicious, and the sauce had the perfect amount of heat. I then ordered the fish tacos which were awesome too. The fish was fresh, cooked perfectly, and the mango salsa on top was fantastic. If you're ever in Montauk definitely stop by here!
google avatar

Jennifer K.

Yelp
You're in Montauk, dinner is going to be expensive. Accept that, move on. My friend and I asked the hotel for suggestions for a casual dinner spot. The Gigshack was their first suggestion so we gave them a shot and they didn't disappoint. We sat in the outside portion of the restaurant, which was nice for the beautiful summer evening. It was crowded, with a Manhattan feel of the tables being very close together. Basically every table was filled though, so I understand them wanting to maximize their space. I enjoyed the scallops and my friend enjoyed her meal as well. Waitress was nice and suggested that the appetizer sized scallops would be enough for a single persons meal, and we could always order something else after if she was wrong. She was right, the appetizer size was perfect for me to feel well full (not stuffed) and not leave any wasted.

James G.

Yelp
Awesome stop. Service 5 stars. Cute and polite! Food was light and delicious. Drinks on point. If you can get in you will enjoy!

Gina B.

Yelp
Legit a must try while in Montauk. I go here often and it never disappoints. Hands down the best Caesar salad with a lemony twist I've ever had, more than enough for two to share. If you like lamb you gotta try the sliders. Everything is on par.

Yelp
What an awesome place! So cute and beachy and chill. But nice at the same time! Loved the live music, too. We stopped in for lunch and there was a decent crowd, but we were still able to sit immediately. I had the lamb sliders. Seems to be a favorite here because I noticed it at a lot of others tables as well. It looks tiny at first but it's actually really good and REALLY filling. The bread is super dense and the lamb is satisfying. My friend had the fish tacos and cleaned her plate. They have a respectable drink selection - cocktails/wine/beer. Also, it seems like they have a lot more beer options than what's indicated on the menu or on the taps. All in all, cool/fun atmosphere, good food/drinks, and friendly/prompt service. Our food came out pretty quickly, too. I would recommend!
google avatar

JiaJia T.

Yelp
If this represents what a 4-star place is like in Montauk, no thanks. All hype, very little substance. First the positives - the service was good and friendly, the interior is casual like a well thought out shack in the Caribbean. The prices are not that casual - think $10 for one fish taco and $16 for one crab cake. We had the billy goat salad, crab cake, and mussels. The mussels were good, the crab cake had too much filling/breading, and the salad was one of the plainest salad ever. The lettuce was roughly chopped and barely fresh, few fried goat cheese balls and beets were thrown in and the almond slices were an afterthought. I want my $16 back. After $40 on my lunch I was unsatisfied and still hungry. I suppose they get away with this because this place is just riding on its popularity much the same way that the Kardashian is just famous for being famous. Give me a real seaside shack that serves up fresh flavorful seafood right off of a boat any day!
google avatar

J W.

Yelp
The Gig Shack is always on our list. My only problem is deciding what to have from the highly curated menu (not too many choices- thank goodness!) Absolutely must have the tuna tartar taquitos and mussels. Mont-Tacos are also great. Even my meat-n-potatoes husband is very happy there. Chicken sandwich with bacon on a croissant is a whole other level - wow! Best part this year was sitting out front with our Dixie. They could not have been more accommodating. Since it's right in town I suggest a quick detour for a cocktail - shopping is thirsty work. Stay for a little live music too! Thanks Gig Shack !!

Yelp
We were just here for a relaxing cocktail while waiting for a friend. This is a very airy open bar restaurant where many vacationers and locals find themselves for the vibe and atmosphere. I found this restaurant quite inviting and comfortable. I look forward to my next vist.
