Special Occasion Dinner!
677 is pretty notorious in the area as being a premier fine dining experience - it was definitely a taste of the high life - but, I have also received the same quality service and dining experience at other (cheaper) establishments.
Use the valet service out front, its easier, but IMO, it should be free and you should tip accordingly. $7 is a little steep but I doubt any patrons here are pinching pennies. I didn't know my BF had paid the valet prior, and I tipped $5, so $12 is really just too much to put my car right around the corner. But, that's not super important.
"Happy Anniversary!" is how we were welcomed by our server, along with a personal card on the table. I had said it was our anniversary when we reserved the table, but I wasn't expecting all this!
The service was top notch. He explained everything we needed to know and more, down the the size and taste of each oyster on the menu, the prices, the portions - it was great. He also said the kitchen was willing to tweak anything according to your likes. When we opened our menu, we were delighted to have the back lit menu, a nice touch.
I opted to get a few (3) glasses of wine over a bottle, the pours were pretty small but standard. The wine glasses, as expected, were of very high quality and a treat to use,
Obviously, the place is pricey, so we skipped the appetizers tonight. The bread was amazing though, so that worked. Also, our food came out incredibly fast. We just wanted to indulge dinner.
For steaks he ordered a Filet (medium well) and I order the Cowboy Ribeye (rare) with the truffle butter. We ordered three sides, steak fries, mushrooms and we had them split the mac and cheese to half lobster and half plain.
Steaks: Before the food came out, the server came with a tray of various high end steak knives for us to choose from. We both chose big mighty knives, this was also, a great touch. Both the steaks were cooked perfectly to order. High quality meat, tender, delicious. They were served with roasted garlic and a roasted pepper. My BF smeared the roasted garlic all over the steak, it was one of his favorite parts. His was medium well, cooked that way, and he liked it. (I don't understand how he enjoys its this way. rare all the way for me!) With a 22oz ribeye, I only was able to eat half. The butter didn't really add much truffle flavor, which was disappointing, but the steak was great. And rare, how I like it.
Sides: The Steak fries were huge, they were potato wedges, which is fine because they were very good. My BF loved them. They had a nice hint of truffle. The mushroom side was OK, I love mushrooms with my steak. I think they needed a pinch more salt. The mac and cheese was good. My boyfriend loved his (without lobster). His had a much thicker sauce and looked different in general. The lobster one was good, with an entire lobster in it, but the sauce was not as thick as it should have been, and the lobster slightly overdone. It still was super flavorful and enjoyable. We mentioned the sauce difference to the server, he noted that they add lobster bisque to the sauce to reinforce the lobster flavor, maybe they added a touch too much to mine.
We ate, and ate, and ate, and ... had left overs. We brought a lot home, so that shows the portions are pretty good here. The food was packed up for us and we were each given bags of our goodies. We were full to the brim and decided to end it here instead of adding dessert to the mix.
For everything, it was $191 before tip. I knew where we were going and the price ended up being right where we were thinking. For a special occasion, and trying a place for the first time, and indulging, it was worth it. It was a treat!
Also, as an Anniversary perk, we received a $10 gift card with our bill at the end. We were both very happy and do plan to return, maybe for lunch next time.
