Place looks beautiful but the experience was completely ruined by the bartender the minute my wife and I walked in here. Despite there only being 1 customer at the bar, we did not even get greeted with a smile or frieblndly glance. We awkwardly stood by the bar without our presence being acknowledged until we called her over to ask what there was to drink on tap or about happy hour specials. We tipped anyway but I have to say I have never felt so unwelcome at a bar in this part of town. We were prepared to kill 2-3 hours here before catching a later train, instead we just closed out our tab at the end of the first round and couldn't wait to finish up just so we can go somewhere more welcoming.

The music was the catch for me. The fact they were playing songs by some of the greatest of our times, like marvin gaye, was definitely the jackpot. Pool table is in there as well. Also the bartenders are very friendly.

A small group of friends and myself walked into a nearly empty bar, I noticed the bartender roll her eyes. As we started to order, the first friend needed more time but the bartender became frustrated. Before taking the next order, she announced that she would not be separating checks and we'd have to figure it out. I immediately walked out. I'm from New Orleans and EVERYONE I live with is in the service industry. They never would have treated guests this way. Had the woman stated that separating checks would be impossible, I would have stayed. But her poor attitude and disrespect drove me away and I even called other friends to warn them who then canceled their plans. I am a big tipper and ALWAYS tip but I would not have tipped that night. This was the woman working Sunday PM, Aug 25.

I was hoping we would happen across a hidden gem, and this was it for us. After nearly pissing ourselves crossing the Manhattan Bridge in the rain, we were desperately looking for a bathroom. Heading towards DUMBO already, we stopped into this bar. When we finished going to the bathroom and I shared with the bartender that we were grateful to have a place to pee he replied with "Well you don't have to order a drink if you just needed to pee". Major points earned with that comment. 1 drink turned into several hours there and he even charged our phones for us! Locals at the bar were friendly. Overall a fun experience.

Friday 8pM Came here in search of a fun place to have more drinks post time out rooftop a few blocks away . It's a simple , bare bone , casual place , not the fun place we were in search for but good place to sit outside on a nice day . This feels like more of a local bar and can see myself meeting neighbors and Friends here for. A drink . My friend ordered the bottle of wine who mentioned it wasn't the friendliest service but we enjoyed our half hour at the place anyway .

What it is: Awesome local bar that caters to the local folks in the neighborhood and occasionally a group having an event in the area on the weekends. It's an eclectic and vibrant scene that includes artists, producers, musicians, film makers, furniture designers, poets, photographers etc. those are just the friends I've met here. Bartenders are competent, friendly and solid human beings. Each with their own personality and ability to have a lively discussion while they play their own favorite playlists on the sound system. It's like 4 different bar's depending on your bartender and days if the week are like chapters of different books, written by the same writer. What it is not: Don't order fancy cocktails, you won't get them. It's a beer, wine and shot bar.

Love this place! The one real unpretentious bar in this otherwise fake contrived gentrified crap hole called Dumbo. Love the drinks here and the happy hour is great. I make it a destination spot. Not many down to earth things to do down here, but this is one of them.

While in the area, we stopped into this bar for a quick drink. I had my usual Jameson & Gingerale. Nothing too particular here. Mostly bar seating as well with one corner table in the back.

It's a bar. That's pretty much it. In the summer sitting on the stoop and people watching is ideal They have live music most nights and it's never too crowded.

Jay St Bar is your standard(in a good way) local bar that had good drinks for a reasonable price and laid back atmosphere. My family trio popped in here after walking from apt through Brooklyn Bridge Park and the Dumbo flea market so we were parched and in need of liquid barley fuel. What was cool was they had a Star Wars trivia starting, and we played for one round before I realized I don't know NEARLY as much about Star Wars as I thought. They had paper masked which were fun so my Lil Bean transformed into BB-8 for the time being. When I do my weekend stroll, I will definitely come back for another friendly visit.

68 Jay St is definitely the place for happy hour drinks and building relationships with coworkers. This dive bar has strong drinks for cheap and is one of the original bars in the Dumbo area in Brooklyn, NY. Stop by this bar if you're looking for a chill night out, good vibes, and reasonable priced drinks! Good for pre-gaming as well!

This is part classy local haunt, part dive bar. The drinks are nothing fancy but there's a lot of space and the ambience is cool. I'm pretty sure they have good drink specials, too. Tbh I had a few too many when I was there (not too too many, but a few : ) so specifics are blurry - but I had a good time and stayed out late without any problems getting seats for my group of 5.

A solid dive bar somewhat hidden in this area of Dumbo. There are a lot of bars and restaurants in this neighborhood that elevate their prices due to the high influx of tourists and generally wealthy residents, but Jay St. Bar keeps it pretty real. It's a pretty stark place with some local art on the walls, but not much going on besides that. Almost looks like they began a buildout and said, "screw it--lets just sell some beer." With plenty of room and a local following, it's a cool spot to start or end your night.

Great happy hour. 2:30-7p. $4 draft beer BROOKLYN lager and $5 house wines and excellent a/c on a hot summers day. It's a friendly no frills bar. Just the kind I like that doesn't have the pretension of the new places in Dumbo. So if I have an hour to spend or a meeting in the area this place is great because it doesn't get too loud and it has a clean and cozy atmosphere.

We were taking a walk around Dumbo last night where my brother had his previous office and after enjoying the city view for a while, we decided to sit for couple of beers so he took us to 68 Jay St Bar. There is no sign saying the name of the place so once we walked it, as a typical Yelper, I was like " what's the name of this place?" :) It was just as simple as the building number and the street name. 68 Jay St :) "Simple" definitely would summarize this bar, no fancy stuff. Wooden stools, wooden coffee type of tables, plain beer glasses, minimum light, clean bathrooms. We paid $30 for 5 beers, quite reasonable. It has 2 saloons by the way, bar area is more alive. Would go again.

My first time here was a terrible experience, it's a nice little bar on the corner, not the cleanest but def not the worst. It's your average nyc bar. The service however was abysmal (means horrible) that bar tender, I believe her name is Jen is ridiculously rude. When my friends and i tried to get her attention with a simple "excuse me" she replied, "what can't you see I'm doing something?" And when she finally came over to us her first response was, "someone over here wanted something?" Im surprised she still has a job.... Ps: to the manager/owner, If you read your yelp reviews you'll see that I'm not the only one that has had a terrible experience all because of your bartender. If you see a drop in revenue it'll probably be directly correlated with the horrendous customer service by your staff.

It's a crap shoot here. Sometimes it's Kate or Julian or the woman who plays music (forgot her name) working behind the bar and they're amazing. Other times it's some curly haired woman who asks why you're getting a margarita during happy hour and acting incredulous that she has to mix a drink. Apparently the stress of working behind a bar gets to her--she should find another job. And then there's the huge open windows with smokers sitting RIGHT in front of it, wafting smoke into the bar, which usually smells like mildew. And the owner sits outside not giving a damn. Nothing I say will make this place fail because the standards in dumbo are so damn low that this place can thrive just because it had a happy hour and thanks to those first three bartenders. Update: it seems like the smoking issue has been remedied by closing the window

Met up with an old coworker last week for a quick pre-wedding (his, like I would really be getting married) drink. It was a half-way meeting point for both of us and seemed convenient to just go to Dumbo and insanely close to my office. I must say, there isn't a whole lot of nightlife in Dumbo and the area is a work in progress. But this is a solid dive bar. No food. No frills. No gimmicks with a solid happy hour that ends at 7pm: $3 Narragansett cans, $4 Brooklyn Lager, $5 wells/wine. Not a whole lot on tap - Only the aforementioned plus Stella and Lagunitas IPA. Pours on wells/wine are strong and huge. The ambiance - dim lighting - people we noted were either dressed down in small groups or really dressed up and probably on blind dates after work.

The most unwelcoming bar I've ever been to. Stood awkwardly at bar for several moments despite their being only 1 patron besides my spouse and I before having to ask for a menu/draft beer selection. When we walked in, we weren't even greeted with a smile nor acknowledged in any way. As far as the environment and location of the place goes, it's very cozy especially by the fireplace. Unfortunately the beauty of this place was ruined by the unwelcoming nature of our bartender. For the record, I still left a tip as I can't let my bad experience dictate my lack of support toward someone else's livelihood. We originally came here based on the reviews, hoping to kill several hours before our train ride home and left swiftly after round 1. Needless to say, I'm never coming back.

So far my experience has been okay. I am still on my first beer and the place has a pretty decent crowd for a bar who was as lazy with their decor as they were with naming the bar. Honestly, this place is nothing special yet I felt the need to come here while I was walking by. There is a very diverse crowd for older business type, bearded artsy guy, unwelcoming punk chick's and Joe Shmoe. The selection of drinks is okay as far as beer goes. I have noticed a lot of people have been commenting about the service and bartender. I see the attitude, I most definitely do but look at the place and realize where you are. I expect my service to not be the best. In closing, the bar is sub par but I would come back probably because the bartender hates the people here as much as I do. I would rate it a "once a month."

What a wonderful place. Tucked in a corner in DUMBO. Cheap drink specials. The sun was setting on a hot ass day in the city, found my refuge here. Bartender was dope- she gave out a really nice vibe. Dope mix of people here- a lil bit of everything. Thank you homies!

I was in the Dumbo area waiting to go to class in NYU. I had a hour to wait and no book to read. I stopped in the this. At because I always saw it but never went it. One of the best thing I've done. While I was waiting and drinking my Stella, the bar tender came by and started to talk with me. We had a great conversation and time was flying. The service that was giving was great. My beer was cold and my conversation was great. The only thing that I didn't like was that there was a few time that people were ordering things with cherry juice (tequila sunrise) but they didn't have it on the side. They used the same juice that they put there hands in to get the cherries. I would say they need to fix that. There wasn't anything else that I saw that was out of place. Like I said they had great services and everything else was great. I will be back again to enjoy my time as I wait.

THE WORST BAR EVER! I don't write reviews but I want to warn anybody/everybody. Not because of the drinks or environment. BUT JEN, she's the bartender there. She was extremely rude to just us. We ordered drinks and we wanted to buy another round, she yelled back at us saying "do you not see me doing something." All we did was try to get her attention (waited over 15 minutes already), when she finally came, she was yelling at us saying "what do you need, you didn't drink your first round." First of all, we are spending money, we shouldn't be treated like this. Secondly, when she finally gave us the shot, she continued to give us attitude so we decided to just leave. Lastly, if you don't want to work here or you are upset, don't take it out on your customers, it's not our fault that you're not happy.

Really bad service really arrogant. The bartender focused on your private performance.

Most of the preceding reviews reflect the slow demise of this neighborhood... Sadly, as the over-privelaged take over and force out all the people who made it "cool" for them, comes the requisite "I demand a Manhattan level of service and attention! I am special because my husband works in finance and I'm super-creative and I LOVE dive bars, as long as they aren't dive-y! I walk my children quickly past the locals who actually enjoy their lives here..." This place rocks if you can ignore the new undesirable yupsters who make it a slightly less enjoyable experience. Dirty looks for lol'ing are not out of the question...

Nice little local Brooklyn watering hole under the Bridge, that I'm pretty darn sure we'd patronage before...deja vu kind of thing? My husband likes beer so I'm sure when we were in that neighborhood two years ago we probably stopped for a beer and rest. And he knows how my feet get after hoofing it, so it's just logical to stop at a local joint down a beer and feel the like a local if for only a few hours. Low key, nothing fancy mellow vibe.

A quiet bar with friendly staff and laid back vibe. They had rustic furniture and non-exorbitant drinks, but unfortunately nothing really sets this place apart but it's a not a bad place either

Wow. I have been here at least two other times but went this time and the bartender was really rude. I asked what beers she had. I had walked down and could not see the labels. It is dark and I do not have the best vision. So she states go and look at them. I am sorry not worth my time ever and don't waste your time here. If there was an option for. O stars I would rate them with no stars. This is a pleasant Saturday afternoon july and she was rude. Gross so many other nice people and places!

Worst bar I've visited in NYC. Awful drinks. Awful bartender. Awful atmosphere. I've been to many bars within this city, and I've enjoyed most of them. At the very least, they were just good. This was the first bar I've been to where I was disappointed in every aspect.

I never write reviews, but the experience I had here is worth sharing. The moment I got to the bar I watched a guy calling the waiter (Jen) by the name and she was super rude to him. I assumed he had been very rude to her earlier. I asked for 8 beers (bottled) and paid a 13% tip. 2 hours after that I asked for another drink and she refused to serve me, and refused to serve me. This was a 30 seconds service (open bottle and give the beer to the customer), not a high end restaurant where food was being made, waiters going to the table. I offered to give her a better tip on the other drink, but she refused. Nice bar, good beer, but the service is terrible. Good luck to the bar owner.

I tried to order a beer, but the lady bartender was rude. I guess she did not like my accent, and she asked my boyfriend (who's was sitting next to me, and who is also Colombian but with Caucasian features) to teach me how to read the beer menu (which was in english). I left.

Actually, the only thing wrong with 68 Jay St Bar is you (or me in this case). Its just... Clearly I don't belong here. The bartender got mad at me when I asked what whiskey they had in the bottles behind the bar. Its not really her fault, I was dressed all Manhattan-y, and didn't even realize that that was a thing until I walked into 68 Jay st bar and then it became obvious that that is DEFINITELY a thing. So I did what any grown man would do in that situation: ran away into the other room and didn't buy any more drinks the rest of the night. I hid, in shame, and I can only assume everyone else was happier as a result. Everyone else seemed happy there so I can't hate. I think it could very much be your kind of place. But for me it didn't have any thing that I wanted to drink. Really, I'm giving it two stars because it seems like the type of place that does better without the type of people who use yelp (what type is that? I don't know... just the type who don't fit in at this bar). I swore off writing bad reviews soon after drafting this one. There are already more than enough haters on Yelp... so this review has been sitting on my account partially finished for a while. But in this case... I get the feeling that 68 Jay st Bar doesn't mind reviews that will keep the new people out. So if you belong, you are going to love this place, at least in part because I won't be there. If you don't, then don't be sad, there are plenty more places around.

Having worked in the area a couple of times in the last few years, I was familiar with 68 Jay from going-away get-togethers and launch parties. During the week, it's pretty reasonable - nerds and artsy folks catching a couple drinks after work. But I shudder to think of the weekenders. Generally speaking, Dumbo is a pretty depressing place to be on the weekend. Coming from East Austin, Wicker Park (not Bucktown, mind you), and Williamsburg, I can't think of a single reason anyone would hang out in Dumbo on the weekends unless they were lo-jacked. Or, perhaps, if they lived here and were too lazy to pedal their trendy fixed gear up to WB or down to Red Hook. (I stand accused.) Did you ever go to a party at someone's house who you didn't really like but you hung out with anyway just to get out of your house and because they had free beer? Well, 68 Jay is kind of like that, only you pay for the beer. But the douchebag factor was so incredibly high there the last time I stopped by that it may have been the last time. The staff is friendly and attentive. I don't know what my fellow reviewer "TRON" was talking about below; there is no food and certainly no burger. Most of the chairs are kind of uncomfortable, but they open the front windows when it's nice outside. Lots of dogs come by. No, I mean actual dogs. That's a nice thing. I don't know. I hate to slag the place, but I find it hard to say much nice about it. Ultimately it's a product of its environment.

Crazy unbelievably cheap beer drinking during Hora Feliza. One of the best ways to start a night when you are coming home from Manhattan and moving on to Carroll Gardens and/or Fort Greene/Clinton Hill. Extra-friendly owner. If he likes you, he'll probably want to sit and have a long chat with you. Make sure you've a friend in tow in case you want to excuse yourself. Lovely original exposed brick and arched ceilings.

one of the bar maids is a complete doll, the other, the opposite. serious issues. she's very out of place as everyone is so genuinely kind. the jazz band this sunday evening was outstanding. the pizza, albeit soggy in the center, was a decent effort. could use more flavor too. the salad was excellent. cut up in bite size pieces with the right amount of olive oil and vinegar.

What can I say about my local watering hole?... If you've never been and end up there, don't forget to smile and say hello, and you will receive a smile and kindness in return. Easy. There are a lot of regulars. It's like a small town in Dumbo. I know that some people feel unwelcome when they see the regulars at the bar, but understand that the regulars have seen a lot of obnoxiousness and other trouble and they are protective of the bartender, who is often the only staff member present. The bar has been there long before there were condos down the block. Seriously, just say "hello" and any unwelcome sentiments, such as those mentioned in other reviews, will go away. The wine selection is very good for a small place, and there's always something cold on tap.

Stopped in for a beer on a Sunday afternoon, and it was pretty dead, but just the way we like it. There was a light breeze blowing and a table very close to a wide open window that was free and had our names written all over it ;-) We both had a draft beer, I believe it was called Circus boy, and boy do I like my wheat beers! Good to the last drop! This place had a warm and inviting vibe, and very very spacious and open. Would definitely go back for another drink on a hot steamy summer night ;-)

It's a bar. It's got seats. It's got tables. It's got booze. It also has these made to order pizzas that people were doing back-flips over. Literally, back flips everywhere. If you're in the side opposite of the bar, the room with the pizza oven, the chef does all kinds of crazy things with the shovel and the pizzas. It's pretty entertaining. It was one of the first, full-on, summer days and the large windows were open, allowing lots of sunlight in and views out on to the streets of Dumbo. Reasonably priced drinks. Watered-down beer list.

I'm here to defend this bar from the one star reviews that were glaring at me on here yesterday afternoon prior to my visit last night. This must be one of the most average bars I've ever been to, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's small - composed of two rooms, each with slightly different, but incredibly simple furniture and decor. There were two bartenders working, and they were both perfectly nice people who provided the standard service of pouring beers and mixing vodka sodas for us to enjoy. It wasn't too busy, wasn't too loud, wasn't too cool, wasn't too fancy, wasn't too expensive. It was just a simple bar, where people can get drinks and catch up. Oh, and it's a block from the F train - which makes is perfectly convenient for people living in the immediate neighborhood, the LES, East Village or off the F in Brooklyn. I would go back. That is all.

Forget all the one star reviews. I live close by, and work in the building so I've been here on numerous occasions. Though, I'm by no means a regular. It is kind of a dive. It does have great music. It does have dogs outside in the summer time. The clientele changes from weekday to weekend. It is very basic. There is pizza (weekends). The owners are really cool though. One of them is the warehouse manager for MoMa - you should start talking to him about art. Fascinating. I believe they also own the wine bar down the street. Look. Some bars just aren't to everyone's taste. And sometimes the bitchy bartender will piss you off. And sometimes you'll think only us ugly people hang out here. Or the chairs creak. Or the "vibe" isn't up to snuff. You are entitled to your opinion. I've written one star reviews myself. I look forward to working in Dumbo for a long time, and I hope to stop by this bar every chance I get.

I've been to few places like 68 Jay Street. Like the other reviewers have said, if you stop by regularly, pretty much everyone will know your name. And, 68 tends to attract some interesting locals. The people here at what make the place work. Oh, and make sure you stop by for Whiskey Wednesdays with Will Scott. It's worth your while. We'd stop by after work, generally after 8, so I was never there for happy hour, but still, the drinks are relatively fair market value. The comfort of a familiar place, however, is what makes this bar a special one for people that live/work in the area.

Always great ...Except the bartender today! 68 Jay is a great neighborhood bar, one of the best in Dumbo... I have been there a few times in the past few months and alway found it to be a very relaxing place to hangout and that staff to also be very friendly... I went there today (Sunday) around 7pm, the bar was fairly empty this time of the day, but the bartender was very rude. When I went up to the bar to order a second round of drinks for myself and my friends, she asked me to bring up the empty glasses to her before she would take my order. To make it worse, when we were leaving and I went to close my tab she over changed my credit card ... $8 for drinks that said $6 on the bar menu. When I questioned it, she just argued back and didn't correct the charge. Its only a couple dollars in the end but it the principle of it. Great place... just 'avoid' Sunday afternoon. It sucks that one bad employee could ruin a great bar...
