Why Andrew Yang Is Eating His Way Through the NYC Mayoral Election | Eater

"A well-lit Hell's Kitchen deli/supermarket where a campaign shopping clip was filmed and then widely criticized on social media for appearing awkward and phony; the incident sparked a broader 'bodega' debate about authenticity and led to mockery from New Yorkers and public figures alike." - Gary He

NYC Mayoral Hopeful Andrew Yang Roasted on Twitter Over Bodega Video - Eater NY

"Sofwan Qaid, the owner of 7 Brothers Famous Deli in Hell’s Kitchen, confirmed that Yang filmed the video inside his establishment. Despite being officially categorized as a deli, Qaid refers to his business as both a deli and a bodega, supporting Yang’s message of bodega support." - Erika Adams

So, I head over to 7 brothers deli to pick up my food with a friend. I am completely OFFENDED by the way the lady at the front desk spoke to me. This was on Wednesday April 30, 2025. I came in around 1:30pm. I kindly told the rude lady at the front desk that I did NOT order an All-around Grilled Cheese. I was told that it was what I ordered. I was not happy with the way this woman spoke to me. She did not have to raise her voice. She was very disrespectful to me and told me....."WELL YOU JUST NEED TO ORDER AGAIN.". I feel very uncomfortable to go back if I see this woman at the front. She is horrible at customer service, and after this issue, I am unsure if I will ever return. I was given something that I did not order. Even if I made a mistake, this is not how you speak to a customer. You don't raise your voice and behave as if you want to fight me. That was very unprofessional. This lady has black hair with a peach shirt. Horrible experience. Oh! But the chefs are great and friendly! 😉

I brought 10 out of state high school kids to eat lunch here and it was amazing. The food was delicious and fresh. The service was outstanding, especially considering how many kids I had with me. It was a really fun experience eating at this traditional NYC deli.

One time the deli manager was really rude and I didn't come back for months. This time, I'm not coming back at all. I asked for pan fried tuna with cheddar cheese. I got a non pan fried tuna and American cheese. Hey, I could have gone as cross the street to the Dollar tree and got that for $2 instead of paying $10 for this disaster. See pictures. I called to speak to the person who is very nice and has worked there for many years and instead of her getting on the phone, a very aggressive service deli manager with me, a real woman tried to get into the ring with me. I normally have never asked for a credit, I'm in there everyday, and I spent thousands a month. I thought maybe she would credit me for next time, and that would be the end of it. Not only with this guy not credit me, but apparently everything was my fault, not his. I've never in my life had anyone in the restaurant business speak to me in that manner. He said we had the conversation before and it's not worth his time to mess up his pan with the tuna, almost impossible to believe, but it's on a recorded call. Yep, he said it. I would hate to inconvenience you for 30 seconds to clean a pan for a CUSTOMER. Does this place even have an owner? I'll send you the audio recording if you'd like. Last I knew there was an owner that had to Florida. Died shortly after getting an MNRA vaccine. That's what a guy at the service deli told me. Service deli said that my food sat for 2 hours and I should come in right away, (again no culpability on his part). This deli makes you wait a minimum of 30 minutes for pickup, but today it was an hour. I came in 15 minutes after and he even decided to argue with me on that and said that I came in 22 minutes after the hour, really? Again, who doesn't put a customer first and goes into the ring with a woman like this? A misogynistic woman hater, that's who. The concept of the customer always being correct is not something that is understood here, and if you're a female, good luck. The attitude of the service manager, David, explains to me why the women look exhausted. I feel bad for these women. They work very hard. All the women are in the cashier section, all the men are in the deli. The women look completely miserable, the men look happy. I rest my pen.

I always order bagel sandwiches form this place. Usually we get bacon, egg,and cheese which are always great. This time I got a everything bagel with veggie cream cheese. They definitely took my order "literally" when they put vegetables directly on top of plain cream cheese. I'll keep ordering from here, I just wont be getting the veggie cream cheese. Lol

Google
If looking for a location with great sandwich choices that don't skimp & portions, look no further than 7 Brothers. Decent prices for the area too. Update: We returned to the next day to 7 Brothers for lunch & told them we received 2 sandwiches but were charged for 1. They told us they appreciated letting them know & told us not to worry about. A delicious jewel in the Big Apple!

Google
I had the plain bagel with cream cheese and scallion. The bagel and cream cheese combination was very good, and the bagel wasn’t too hard or too soft. Excellent place for a quick snack!

Google
Charged me Times Square prices for Ohio service. There’s no competition so they’ll be fine. Messed up my sandwich order hard enough that I’m leaving 1 star. For $12 you should at least take my order correctly. Italian sandwich is a joke here. Do better. Or don’t. Tourists will still come

Yelp
In my recent visit, and a few prior, I opted to order their grilled chicken Caesar wrap. Overall, it's a solid option if you're in the neighborhood. The wrap is good--comparable to a well-made grocery store wrap in terms of taste and quality. The pricing is reasonable, especially for the area, making it a good value. Portion-wise, it's generous enough to share with a friend or save half for later, which is always a plus. While it's not the kind of Caesar wrap I'd go out of my way to travel for, it's definitely a reliable choice if you're nearby and looking for something fresh and satisfying. I've had this wrap several times, and plan to have it more in the future. A convenient and tasty spot to grab a quick meal!

Yelp
I ordered through Grubhub and my sandwich was top notch. I ordered the chicken club and made a few changes and they didn't get one of them correct- American cheese instead of Muenster. It was excellent as served. I happened to be in the area a few days later and ordered the exact same thing and it was also excellent. They gave way more cheese on the first sandwich and the cutlets were sliced on the first sandwich so they were definitely inconsistent. The workers were pleasant enough. The sandwich was excellent and my wife enjoyed her food as well.

Yelp
Order from door dash ,I got the turkey bacon cheese egg on a whole bagel. The wait time was just about right as it said it was two minutes over, but it was prepared ready to go. The price was a dollar more on da website then when I went inside to look at there menu! Maybe the charge more for online ordering then if you ordered in person! The cashier is nice they greet you when you enter the store. It wasn't a bad sandwich but there prices should be the same as if I ordered at the counter! It's a deli so there are NO seats here but it's Hells Kitchen area ! There is seating area about a block away

Yelp
Hey let me tell you something! GET The HONEY TURKEY HOT!!! ITS SO GOOD. I get it every time I'm in New York. It's a few blocks from Times Square so it's the perfect off beat to calm down and eat normal regular food. They cook the sandwiches pretty fast too. Make sure you ask for hot otherwise the sandwiches are cold. The store is cute and the people serving you are nice and answer all your questions.

Yelp
I discovered this wonderful deli after a grueling overnight shift. The bright orange 7 Brothers Deli sign, was a beautiful sight to me in my famished state. The cook still had the grill going at 330AM so I ordered a turkey burger with Jack cheese, grilled onions and pickles. Burgers are one of my favorite foods to gobble down and the burger here did not disappoint. It was fat, cheesy and flavorful and really great on its own. I didn't order a side but I did order a steaming hot cup of tea with half and half and a lil sugar. The gentleman who rang me up was real cool and jolly at that late hour which I welcomed, after a work night spent with the Gloomy Gus squad. My fat, two hand burger and tasty tea cost me just a little over ten bucks which is a steal in such a pricey part of town. 7 Brothers will be my go-to from now on, whenever I'm putting in that late night work!

Yelp
It was alright. We ordered a grilled chicken hero and egg white omelet. The chicken sandwich had a great portion for the price (they don't charge extra for cheese, lettuce and tomatoes like many places) but the chicken tasted as if it had been in the fridge for a long time. The omelet was fine but a small portion and came with soggy hash browns instead of the home fries listed on the menu.

Yelp
EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE . bacon egg and cheeses are $6.50 !! when i can go to liberty bagels and deli and get it there for $4.50 !! even though the egg is a little raw ! BUT ITS OK it's creamy . might as well go to the deli behind 7 brothers aka @SKYLINEGOURMETDELI their shit is way cheaper ngl to u! i js think it's ridiculous how expensive this is. the other day 2 days before thanksgiving i went there and asked why is everything so expensive! the lady gave me attitude. yes u read this right attitude. i also bought a sandwich there and this is what they gave me i'll provide a picture under this .

Yelp
Ordered 2 chopped cheese w/o mayo & ketchup. Doordash delivered it in 15 minutes flat- still hot off the griddle. I paid the $1 upcharge for seeded hero which was worth it. Highly recommend. Big sando.

Jonathan C.

Yelp
I ordered a chicken quesadilla, BEC on everything bagel, potato salad, and macaroni salad from here - everything was ready when I arrived for pick up. I really liked the macaroni salad and the potato salad - they tasted really fresh and I inhaled those after arriving home. The chicken quesadilla was not bad, and I'm glad they included salsa and sour cream. The bacon/egg/cheese I saved for the next morning, but it was delicious like a classic bodega BEC. Staff were very friendly here.

Yelp
The delivery on door dash is fast, they don't add condiments when asked to add butter for the toast or ketchup. The drink size is literally the same size so don't waste your money getting/paying for a 20oz. The food is good tho, i would order again just make sure you have your own condiments like ketchup and butter, jelly, etc

Abi M.

Yelp
Got the chopped cheese. It was just what I wanted after a long two days of a lot of activities. Comfort food! Also had the tater tots-YUM I had it delivered and everything was great.
google avatar

Lillian M.

Yelp
Mold on the Napoleon and nothing tasted good except a bagel with cream cheese. Definitely would not recommend this place.

Midtown C.

Yelp
Screw this place. Ordered food and waited over an hr and a half. Called the deli multiple times and they stopped answering. Don't know why they would accept a food delivery and then ignore you.

David D.

Yelp
Best breakfast in bed. delivery is awesome too. Well cooked, tasty and full of love. Great price as well.

Federico C.

Yelp
Placed a simple order, in person, chicken over rice with no veggies. Got a plate that was half veggies barely any rice and over cooked chicken. To top it off when asked if I wanted white sauce and hot sauce, I said only white sauce...lo and behold the dish had hot sauce smothered all over. Maybe if the staff wasn't wearing earphones and answering calls on their phone with them they would listen to customers orders better. Never coming back here
google avatar

Yelp
Here during Covid to drop my daughter at college . Ordered for delivery . Got a panini (minus the meat and added extra veggies to make it vegetarian. Around $8 fro panini , a drink a chips ! Food arrived quickly and hot !

Yelp
Sofwan Qaid's 7 Brothers Famous Deli in Hell's Kitchen is the official #YangGang Bodega HQ! You have to try their Chop Cheese and pick up Andrew Yang's Green Tea & Bananas! If you haven't seen Yang's two tweets from 7 brothers you are in for a treat.

Yelp
Loads of options from hot foods to smoothies/juices to snacks you would normally find at a deli. Location is convenient and store is kept clean even late at night! Prices are higher than grocery chain stores, but understandable due to small business and low supply. Owners/workers are friendly as well!
google avatar

Kristen G.

Yelp
I ordered the bacon egg and cheese sandwich in a spinach wrap, an iced coffee with almond milk, and slice of the carrot cake. The delivery was earlier than expected and the wrap was hot. Everything was packed nicely. There was no straw for my iced coffee. The carrot cake was okay, but I've had way better at Sweet in Hoboken. So I won't be ordering that again. Expensive for just ok. Didn't taste great and icing was very soft. The bacon egg and cheese spinach wrap was delicious!! I'd order that again. Worth it. Bacon was perfectly salty. The cheese melted to the egg and the wrap. Egg cooked perfect. The iced coffee was also just ok. I like that they have almond milk as an option. You pay for what you get here.

Yelp
Visited for smoothies and a few bags of chips, so I'll try the sandwiches and other food in the future. Anyways, only positive experiences from each visit - the person working the POS counter was friendly, fresh fruits were used, extra smoothie was poured into a second cup (free), and the total time in-and-out was short and convenient.
google avatar

Yerlina L.

Yelp
great place for a quick snack, staff is really friendly and food is great, also the pastries are delicious!

Yelp
They are great if you go in, but do not order online. I visit this deli often because it is a few blocks from my apt, and have good options. I usually order the same exact thing. Chicken Cesar Salad & a pint of ice cream. When I come into the deli it's always great, but now for the 3rd time I've ordered online I've gotten a legit half bowl of the salad & it's $7. Three ingredients Lettuce, Chicken, Croutons, takes all of 45 seconds to put in a bowl and mix, & they consistently rip you off unless you are there to watch them. POOR QUALITY.

Micheal E.

Yelp
The restaurant worker called me threatening that he knew my address and was sending someone over. I have filed a police report. Do not order from this establishment.
google avatar

Peter V.

Yelp
Love ordering from here. Convenient, fast, great service behind the counter. One of my go tos!

Gemma B.

Yelp
My bagel order arrived wrong but my imported chocolate looked like it was 150 years old
google avatar

Yan T.

Yelp
Solid deli with reasonable prices, quickly becoming my go-to for an inexpensive salad. Ingredients appear to be fairely fresh and there's never a line, which meets most of my requirements.
google avatar

Steven B.

Yelp
Don't bother. Wrong orders delivered, phones not answered, incomplete orders and cold food. So many other mediocre options to choose from in the neighborhood. Choose any other options. My last outreach to the store through delivery.com included the employee hanging up. Does this look like a bacon cheeseburger to you?
google avatar

Yelp
Last minute party order for New Year day. Call the guys told them what I needed for the next day. An it was there fresh and delicious Seeing I was low on food called on New Year's Day and was able to add to my order Everything fresh and fast delivery Thank you guys for adding a great time to a new year
google avatar

Jemel C.

Yelp
Horrible experience, waited close to an hour for my delivery, just to get a call from the delivery guy saying he couldn't find my hotel. I called the delivery guy 5 times to get no answer, even called the store & the cashier responded "I don't know where he is he's not answering" I Ended up having to walk 6 blocks to pick up & upon arrival I realized the sandwiches I ordered were extremely cold so I asked if they could be remade the cashier gave me a nasty look and replied "i could give you a refund instead" in a vicious tone of voice, absolutely horrible customer service. To make matters worse she had her mask below her nose during a global pandemic, this is unacceptable, I advise everyone to stay away from this establishment.

Yelp
After having a few at Mickey Spillane's, we headed across the street to get some food as they're open 24/7! THE DELI: It's a convenience store & deli. They sell burgers, tons of deli sandwiches, as well as liquor & beer. I'm not sure what time the liquor sales stop but I purchased beet at 1:30am. FOOD: California Panini - They're per made and refrigerated. Chicken, avocado, mozzarella cheese & ranch dressing. Flavor was good, price was $7. Egg Salad Sandwich - This thing needed salt and more mayo. The eggs were roughly chopped and piled high on the bread of your choice, but was so bland. Pass. SERVICE: Fast & friendly. OVERALL: Pretty good food, huge menu, and open 24/7.
google avatar

Arlene L.

Yelp
Good neighborhood deli to get a quick bite to eat, some snack or lite groceries. The fruit bowl ($5) was good but the croissants were dry and stale tasting when we came here. Got a cappuccino here for $2 but it was from one of those machines and not freshly made and too sweet. Better to go down 49th to the Starbucks if you want a fresh croissant and cappuccino.
google avatar

Elizabeth C.

Yelp
Foods great. Love the staff..my little guy always gets love when we go there. Weekday mornings you're sure to come across lines when ordering breakfast, but those guys back there are so efficient you're out of there in no time! I wonder how they do they do it at times. Thank you!
google avatar

Lollie C.

Yelp
Only 1 star because of the girl in the morning. The guys are GREAT AT NIGHT! I've complained and complained about her. She tries to build herself in a tip buy charging 50cents for a plastic bag (she doesn'tring it into the register, she's been there so long, she know the prices, so she gives a verbal receipt), she's inattentive even when it's not even busy, and her attitude is HORRIBLE. She's miserable! She's lucky to have a job even so many amenable, hospitable, happy people need jobs.
google avatar

Amanda K.

Yelp
Best deli in Hell's Kitchen. PERIOD. Has always been my go-to, and everything I've ever ordered off their menu has been amazing. The staff is always super nice, and the food is great! Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!
google avatar

Stephani L.

Yelp
This place is really hit or miss. What I do not like about 7 Brothers Deli is that their prices go up-and-down depending on the person who is behind the counter. Their subs, at $8 a piece are very expensive. The guys behind the counter and friendly and quick and I would recommend if your in the area and need a fast bite to eat. They have no sitting area so you will have to take the food to a park near-by. Ordering over the phone, good luck! I only tried it once and my order was wrong!
google avatar

Tom J.

Yelp
THIEVES! Will look you in the eye and argue advertised and displayed prices while charging you more! I've never witnessed such blatant thievery! Ordered two small 16oz juices, clearly advertised right behind the counter at one price, guy rings up another price and then proceeds to tell me that the price that's advertised behind him is for the smoothies ... and the price for the smoothies to the right of that is for ... wait for it ... smoothies. It turns out that fresh juice comes in two forms, squeezed and squished ... yeah, I know, right?!?! In any case, I don't care so much about the couple of dollars, but do care about being robbed! BEWARE!!!

Jenny D.

Yelp
Monica makes the Best smoothies and fresh juices! Ask her to make your fresh juice into a slushy!!!!! It's the best!!! Especially in this heat wave!!!

Taylor B.

Yelp
Had to throw away my chicken fingers after one bite. And I absolutely love chicken fingers.
google avatar

Mark E.

Yelp
I order from this place a lot either for pick up if I'm on my way home or delivery if I'm too lazy for pickup. I use grubbing/seamless for delivery. They have a great selection of deli items on the menu, even brownies and ice cream If you order something they are out of, the store guy will give you a call for a substitute (most of the time) There has been a few occasions where I did not get a call for substitutes they sent something different which I either keep or refuse and send back. A little inconvenient when they don't call but it is what it is. I would have given this place a better rating if the delivery was better, to the owners I suggest 1) always call for substitutes when you're out of something and 2) if the delivery guy did not show up, call the person who ordered and let them know
google avatar

Mark W.

Yelp
The people who work here during the day are super nice. I've been here multiple times from 11 PM -the early AM and they change the prices immensely. Food is fine at best depending on what you get. DONT buy beer or alcohol from here after 11 pm, as the guys who work then will overcharge and overtax. Is a 40 ounce of beer at 7 Brothers $4.99 or $6.99?? I'll never know because it changes every day. Pounders they charge $3.50 during the day and $5 from 11 pm on. A real s**t show of a deli if you ask me.
google avatar

Pavel M.

Yelp
For the first time looks so nice and clean . But the burger they cooked was like stone and disappointed very very much. I ordered and was in a rush so I picked up and left. Than few minutes later I realized that it's impossible to eat ;(((((( so just pay attention when you get your meal. Will not go there anymore
google avatar

Sara V.

Yelp
My go to deli for quick delivery (probably more times than I'd like to admit) for literally everything from a hangover breakfast, really good fresh juices, ordering paper towels when I'm too lazy to leave the house. Every time I have ordered delivery they have been much quicker than the delivery estimate and orders have always been perfect!
google avatar

Madeline L.

Yelp
This place is so good I almost don't want to write a review so I can keep it my secret! I lived in the nabe for many years and while there are many NY delis - this is hands down my favorite. They've got great, fresh food, smoothies, and the best paninis EVER. (Seriously...EVER). Super reasonably priced, especially factoring how close they are to the theater district! They're even complete with a bodega cat (it's shy though). Like I said, I used to live close by, but now that I live over a hundred blocks away? I still drop by for the chipotle panini. So good!

Alex S.

Yelp
7 Brothers is a quality bodega with great variety. I ordered a bbq chicken hero and they did not skimp on the meat, cheese, or most importantly bbq sauce! Compared to others in the area its one of the better spots

Cailin M.

Yelp
I love this deli. great selection of sandwiches and drinks, also they really don't skimp on the meat!! they consistently will put so much pastrami on my sandwiches without me even having to ask. it's amazing

greg w.

Yelp
The guy at the counter making sandwiches doesn't listen. He's rude and I'm done coming here. A lot of competition in HK to have a jerk treating people the way thus guy does.

Kethryn C.

Yelp
I've tried it twice now and there's not a sandwich there that isn't incredibly dry. I also got the cheesecake and it tasted spoiled. Do not recommend.

Carly B.

Yelp
The woman at the cash register is not wearing a mask and they are literally located right next to an urgent care Covid testing center. When she saw I was clearly uncomfortable and I mentioned something she still did not put on a mask and she rolled her eyes.
