Replacements found for Macayo, Bachi Burger, and the Vanguard Lounge | Eater Vegas

"I note Mariscos 7 Mares was a seafood-focused Mexican restaurant that once operated less than half a mile to the east and has shuttered; the incoming Mi Casa reportedly shares a connection with that former spot." - Bradley Martin

7 Mares is a unique Mexican restaurant. Yes, you can get traditional Mexican food there, but they specialize in seafood! Fish and shrimp. Of course these are served with a Mexican Flare. I just stopped in for lunch on Cinco de Mayo. First time I have ever been here even though I drive past it quite often. I had the speedy Gonzalez. A taco and an enchilada with refried beans and rice. First, the chips are different here. They are made from flat tostada type shells I believe but somehow, they are either air fried or puffed and some kind of way that makes them really good. The salsa is not your traditional salsa. It’s more like a pico de gallo with its own unique flavor. But again it is very good! It also comes with a side of some green dipping sauce that I thought was guacamole, but I’m not quite sure. Maybe some type of Verde sauce. But it was still good also. I need to explore more things on their menu even though I am not really a seafood person. I will explore more of their traditional Mexican restaurant type of foods, but from what I had today, I do like this place! I will be back!

If you're tired of the same old American-style Mexican offerings in the Cola market, give this place a try. On a busy Saturday afternoon, we were quickly seated and ordered our large Dos Equis Dark and iced tea. The thick round chips were served with a tasty homemade sweet/hot salsa. My wife had a chicken quesodea. I had the Carnitas entree. Not sure if the pork is flash fried before serving? Hot and oh so tender. Among the best Carnitas that I've had in recent memory. Prompt service. 8/3 update...Oscar took care of us at the bar today. My wife had the Chicken Fajitas. I spurlged and spent $28 on a bowl of soup?? Unfreaken believable. The Caldo 7 Mares soup is full of seafood variety...fish, whole shrimp, half a lobster tail, half a blue crab, mussels, squid, octopus, and clams in a beautiful Mexican broth. Munch on some of their chips with the soup for added texture. The Tacos and Quesadillas are really good for the money if you're eating light.

Incredible how 7 Mares Mexican restaurant has delivered on so many levels. The restaurant is far above average, with authentic Mexican dishes, fresh ingredients and vibrant environment. The staff was very friendly, super clean restaurant, 5 stars for hospitality. I am grateful to have been able to enjoy a lunch with my friends and family in 7 Mares Mexican restaurant. Treat your self and others and dine in!

Google
If you are expecting "typical" American Mexican salsa, this is not the place. The CHUNKY "pico" style sala is sweet and the green runny sauce is good (guessing tomatillo based?). Neither has any hint of heat. The margarita was just ok. Ordered chicken fajitas. Could not eat them. It tasted like they were cooked with shrimp or fish. The manager said they are cooked completely separate... Maybe just the seasoning? The manager was quick to bring out another dish! Their chips were definitely homemade. They were good. They do charge for more chips though... We wouldn't not go again, but it would not be our 1st choice. The margarita seems a bit pricey.

Google
Great portions, cheaper and better tasting than local Mexican establishments. Drinks came out in seconds and food not much longer. Only downside is it's in a strip mall and not very noticeable. You have to try for yourself. I'll see you there. ***So after coming back several times I have now started tackling their traditional seafood menu. Wow the flavor of these dishes are heaven. Some of the dishes for 2 can be made for one and is a must try! Their soup base is some of the best seafood soup base I have ever had. Also try their charro beans. Yum!!!

Google
Super bad. The server that’s young that served us on table 12 has the worst attitude. 1st time around she served us bad but we brushed it off. 2nd time and she served us worse. $130 dollars for 4 and came home and had to cook food at home because of the food and the server, not even mentioning the quality of food. We hope the owner sees this because we know the owner and he’s a great guy. That server needs to be gone ASAP.

Google
Best Hispanic seafood and food in Columbia. Owners are family and run this restaurant together. And do a fabulous job of entertaining and service. Perfect atmosphere and amazing food.

Google
If you want incredible Mexican food and large menu selection, look no further. This place was incredible, I went for lunch for my first time, and it was amazing. The place was nice, the atmosphere was great, the music was incredible, the staff was friendly and best, best, best of all was the food. My meal was so delicious, flavorful, and filling i was in heaven. Large portion and worth it. The manager was great and kind. I will be back here again soon.

Yelp
One of our go to favorites. Consistently turn out great dishes. Their seafood options are fantastic - love the Paella! Also, best chicken soup in the area.

Jacob W.

Yelp
Met some friends here for dinner. Service and atmosphere were good. Drinks are huge and delicious.

Yelp
It was a slow adjustment to 7 Mares; but I can honestly say I love going there now. A Chelada and (2) Supreme Tacos and I'm on cloud 9!! Friendly staff, great fresh food, and Fridays and Sundays give you Mariachi music!! Get ready to feel festive and drop by!

Yelp
This place has disappointed me again ! I ordered " shrimp Ceviche " the worst food ever !! Shrimp was extremely dry and hard . It had no flavor .

Phillip L.

Yelp
The food is good but nothing could get me back in those doors. They allow DJ Anthrax (of all the names) to play music so loud you have to shout at your waitress to be heard. This after requesting three times to have it lowered and first being moved from a table near the window that had more than 10 flies hanging around. Not worth the high price tag to have a headache and misery just for some sad dj's ego.

Yelp
I always forget that 7 Mares exists and I don't know why! It is a great place to eat. Very different from the typical Mexican restaurant, it focuses on seafood. Portion sizes are large, prices are reasonable, and the food is insanely tasty. A friend from out of town was here a few days ago and we are here, he was skeptical of the idea of a Mexican seafood restaurant, but left a true believer!

Robert O.

Yelp
First let me start by saying walking up to the restaurant is a little intimidating at certain hours because you can't see in so you're unsure what you're walking into. Once you're in the door, you are greeted by a friendly staff and escorted to a table. The atmosphere is quaint. It's clean and nicely done. Seven Mares' entrees do include the typical Mexican dishes, however their seafood dishes are second to none. Getting your food can be a bit slow but it's because your food is being freshly prepared. Several times we received an apology for the wait -- an apology that isn't necessary. I came for good food. Good food is worth the wait. Especially here. If you're tired of the same old "Tuesday taco" you owe it to yourself to stop in for lunch or dinner at 7 Mares. My apologies for no photos. It looked too good and I was hungry!

Shanique S.

Yelp
I'm sorry I ordered chorizo dip and got a side of baby roaches no apology or consideration at all y'all be careful

Yelp
If you're looking for a seafood focused upper scale Mexican experience you've come to the right place. 7 Mares is much like most Mexican restaurants on the outside but when you dive deeper you start to see that this one is much different from the rest. It starts with the salsa, a key point in any Mexican styled restaurant but at 7 Mares the salsa is literally made from smashed tomatoes and fresh veggies. It may not be for everyone but I really enjoyed it. #1 free salsa of all time by far. The menu at 7 Mares has everything you would expect from a Mexican restaurant but they have a larger selection of seafood inspired dishes as well. I had chile relleno stuffed with shrimp and my wife had the chicken asado. Both dishes were insanely amazing and the food came out on time. My only real reservation about 7 Mares is that's it's unexpectedly more on the pricy side of things, I will say the food is fantastic so it makes sense but I feel the entire atmosphere could be a little more upscale to match the menu a bit more.

Yelp
Been here twice now on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. The place gets busy! Food is great and everyone enjoyed their meals both times we came.. The Mariachi band is fun to here!
google avatar

Martín G.

Yelp
Quality has fallen off big time. What used to be one of my favorite spots disappointed me greatly. Fish tasted old and not fresh at all. Food also came out suspiciously quick. Chips are still unique and tasty and also jugos I highly recommend. Not worth the price anymore in my opinion.

Kimberly S.

Yelp
Real Mexican food, great seafood and wonderful service. Our kids love eating here. Live music.

C A.

Yelp
Try the ceviche, pulpo, and paella. All excellent. Sometimes they have a live mariachi band, I think Sundays. It's a hoot.
google avatar

Bobby S.

Yelp
The sign on the front has a fish on it and that is for a reason. This is a seafood restaurant with a Mexican side hustle. I always choose from the seafood menu and have never been disappointed... The food is always off the chart good!

A W.

Yelp
Been twice now since moving to this side of town. Food was excellent and plentiful both times. Service was exemplary the first time but maybe less stellar the second (server was sitting at a table playing on phone when I had to track her down for the check). I will definitely be back, hopefully visit is more like the first visit than the second

Yelp
Pros: The salsa is fresh, which is a plus. The chips looked and tasted house made. Large, crispy and not greasy. I ordered the fried Tilapia with diablo sauce. The fish was big and cooked perfectly. The sauce was super flavorful, spicy but not so hot that I needed sour cream to cool my mouth down. The real surprise was the wonderful mixto tostada. It basically has a huge serving of the mixed seafood ceviche on it without all the extra juice. Oh so good! The Cons: it was almost unbearably hot in the restaurant. They didn't have all their ceiling fans running and they NEEDED THEM! It has to around 85 or hotter because I'm sweating and I've finished eating I'm just sipping a cold corona. I normally keep my house around 78 and I don't sweat at 78. So it's definitely hotter than that. Maybe their AC just can't keep up, but that's seriously bad news considering summer hasn't even really started. But the place is packed. Nearly every table full and will put a strain on any AC unit. Also the service is a bit lackluster. They have maybe 4 waitresses and they are all running around taking orders and delivering food. Though I noticed they seemed to check on and talk to hispanic patrons more. I wasn't checked on, no one asked if I liked my food and I had to flag someone down to order another beer. I'll eat here again because the food was amazing but I'll just have to keep in mind the service is rather poor if you are white. No one has posted pictures of the menu so I took some for you guys. They have 2 menus : a seafood one and a regular menu (that also has some seafood on it).

Yelp
THIS PLACE HAS ROACHES !!!!!!!! So Me and my bf came here yesterday for an dinner. The salsa here is ... weird ...to put it nicely ....It's sweet and sticky like syrup and taste like they dumped a bottle of ketchup on it. I immediately spit it out and pushed it to the side . However the California burrito I ordered tasted awesome as well as the corona Rita the bartender mixed up hit the spot . The reason I gave one star is that as me and my bf were finishing up our drink and hanging out, a roach appeared on me queso dish and was having an excellent time eating away. I literally stopped all movements and called the bartender over . She wordlessly took the dish dumped it in the garbage and went about her business. She continued laughing with a co worker as if this was a normal occurrence. No Apology, no nothing . I was so disgusted we paid for our stuff and left immediately. They had the audacity to say have a nice day as we rushed out . THIS PLACE HAS ROACHES AND THEY DONT CARE !!!!!
google avatar

Drew P.

Yelp
Very unique Mexican spot. They have an entire Mexican seafood menu. The chips and salsa are totally different here too. Nice change of pace.

Jorden C.

Yelp
I ordered their nachos this afternoon. The ground beef was so dry and the container was burnt. I think the cook left it in the microwave for a couple minutes to long. It's on the cheaper end of food though...$9

Yelp
Whoa! Best kept secret. This is by far the best Mexican food I have had in Columbia since Little Mexico on St Andrews closed down. We came in and got lunch. Best cheese dip app, best guacamole. Veggie fajitas had amazing flavor. Pico de Gallo was great. I got the enchilada, chalupa , rice and beans. Each item was perfect. The presentation of the food was beautiful. I am so very happy I found this place!
google avatar

Jason C.

Yelp
Great location. Portions are big and the food is authentic. Chips were stale and cold, but the salsa was good. Real authentic feeling environment. Friendly staff

Naomie G.

Yelp
Great place to take the family. The wait staff was great, food was amazing. 7 mares came recommended by a friend and I was not disappointed

Yelp
1st time here, didn't know what to expect, Mexican seafood? They kicked it out of the park, from the sweet salsa with the fresh chips that they make here, had the lobster plate with shrimp, mussel and squid and rice and fish, Wonderful taste and went well with the shrimp and squid cocktail that I ordered, we also had the ceviche with shrimp and pulpo and fish! Service was excelente and I will be back, had to get a couple of take home boxes!

Charlie F.

Yelp
Hole in the wall but incredible. I typically got the carnitas tacos until I worked up to trying the seafood. Incredible ceviche and the octopus and shrimp cocktail was to die for. 10/10
google avatar

Yelp
Great food. Authentic Mexican cuisine done right, had a great meal here today and will be going back. Plenty to chose from. The salsa and chips were delicious and started the meal off the right way. Out waitress was knowledgeable, friendly and on point.

Yelp
Fabulous, with a diverse menu featuring expected fare plus really creative, flavorful seafood dishes. I enjoyed a grouper dish with garlic sauce - loved it! Fantastic service, too.
google avatar

Ssggirl C.

Yelp
Oh my. My new favorite. We have the fish ceviche to start.... holy cow. So dang good. Lemme back up, the SALSA!!! The CHIPS!! Omgggggg like crack. Addictive and so so good. We had the meal for two, which included steak, quail, lobster, prawns, beef, nopales, grilled veggies...and sides (guac, sour creme, lettuce, pico, tortillas) holy cow. I'm just so full. Such good food. Friendly service. Our waitress was delightful. So so good. Deff try it out!
google avatar

Sarah T.

Yelp
Food is amazing. Try the ceviche, seafood paella, or the seafood enchiladas. Oh and we love their chips!
google avatar

Carolina G.

Yelp
This is a very clean and friendly restaurant. The decor is bright and colorful. They have an extensive menu. I had lunch here recently and the server handed me two menus to review. So, you should be able to find something to your liking. I chose the lunch chicken fajitas and they were oh so good! Their salsa is Pico de Gallo style and I enjoyed it very much. Their chips are different too. I am not sure how to describe them, but they go well with the salsa. They also have a full bar! I would recommend !!
google avatar

Robyn C.

Yelp
Really, really good. Portions are huge; prices are totally fair for the freshness and amount. Seafood in Veracruz sauce was like being in Mexico. The borraco beans were so good I'd make a meal on those and tortillas. Service was attentive without being annoying. Yes, the salsa is sweet. So what?
google avatar

Marci N.

Yelp
We've lived in the area for 2.5 years and each time we pass this place we've commented on how it probably is pretty good and authentic. Tonight was the night we happened to pop in and it was amazing. We had the ceviche and steak quesadillas and we weren't disappointed. The chips are most definitely homemade, as is the salsa. I could have made a meal of just the chips and salsa alone! This will become a regular spot for us.

Julie B.

Yelp
This place is so unsanitary. I stopped coming after I found a roach in my beans. So today, I decided to give it another try. I ordered a soup and found a piece of wire in it. Looked like it's from the brilo pad they use to wash the dishes not to mention the shrimp had the weirdest taste. Never again.
google avatar

Jackie K.

Yelp
To begin with, waitress are very badly faced, they are rude, not friendly. the sauces are delicious, I ordered a shrimp cocktail and I liked it a lot, I also ordered a shrimp broth and this is just red water without any flavor or vegetables inside like potatoes and carrots (which is how they prepare it in many places) . My son ordered chicken pasta (It's too salty, overcooked and too greasy). almost impossible to eat. My companion also asked for pasta. to pay $ 52 for a dinner I expected more.
google avatar

Andy L.

Yelp
I just found the jewel. The wife and I went here tonight and they brought out these amazing Chips and sweet salsa. We got the fajitas with shrimp and scallops and that was delicious too. If you are around this area stop by and check this place out. I'll will be back!

Brittany D.

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic Mexican food, this is the right place for you! Food is made fresh to order and has so much flavor. The chips/salsa are to die for.
google avatar

Ady S.

Yelp
A friend brought me here sometime last year, i really enjoyed my "seafood combination" plate. So i came again on a Sunday, service was slow (it was a little busy so i didn't fret too much) and food was "good," i do love their home made chips and salsa. I thought, "hey lets go back on a Tuesday, it shouldn't be too busy. We should get prompt service." WRONG!!!... It took 10 minutes for her to get our order, 15/20 mins to get our food. Which looked like it came fresh out of the microwave. The food was barely warm. The cheese on my "chile relleno" was burnt (just like it would in a microwave). NEVER got a refill. She was busy cleaning around us. I really don't know what, there wasn't anybody there but two other tables. Then it took another 20 mins to get our check, i had to get up, find her and tell her in spanish that we need our check so we can leave. So unhappy.
google avatar

Anna B.

Yelp
To be honest,I think taco bell may taste better. I got one of the lunch meals with a taco (flavorless meat), chili relleno (sinewy, greasy), and rice and beans (no flavor, odd texture, barely warm). There was no excuse to not ace my meal, it's about the most basic thing you can get at a Mexican restaurant. In my opinion, if you can't do something simple well, you can't do anything well. I also got the chorizo cheese dip which was recommended and the cheese was overly runny, the dip was very greasy (maybe would have been better if it cooked more), and again, little to no flavor, even with the spicy chorizo. I went here based on a friend's recommendation and wish I had just passed. I recommend trying Real Mexico on bush river, much tastier and more authentic.

E L.

Yelp
The ceviche was good. Really good! The chilaquiles were awful. The sweet salsa is horrible. But the service was the worse. The waitress refused to wear her mask. Everyone else wore theirs. I asked for the bill and she disappeared. My husband had to go look for her. Waited and waited before anyone helped him. And no,, he's not hispanic. I come every few years because I forget how bad service is. Guess I will see you in 2014!!!
google avatar

Jenny G.

Yelp
Food is so mexican style and seafood. I have been eating here for three years. Never had complaints and the waitresses are kind.
google avatar

Liliana F.

Yelp
Good mexican food at a good price. They have a very good mariachi band playing on the weekends so have your requests ready.
google avatar

Deanna A.

Yelp
Myself and four co-workers went to lunch, as this place has come highly recommended. The chips and salsa were good, the cheese dip was good, the lunch portions were humongous...and included an extra serving of cockroach buried in my ceviche. The lady in charge at the time simply said "I'm sorry, we have been having problems, we have a company coming to spray." Never again.
google avatar

Ashley H.

Yelp
This makes me sad to rate poorly but it is just not that good. We wanted Real Mexico but were in a time crunch so we stopped in. We've been before and it's just okay. If you're into mariachi bands literally playing right next to your head and are less of a baby about hangovers than my boyfriend and I, you can handle it. Their seafood menu is legit but all in Spanish so I have no idea how to navigate it. I could have asked but there was a squawking bird (?) somewhere in the dining room. Between that and the mariachi band, we had to say "ADIOS!"
google avatar

Russel G.

Yelp
Service was great the food was a little on the greasy side and the the chips came out cold. Salsa was also very sweet. But the food had a good flavor might just been the time of day that we arrived for the chips to be cold kinda came at an off time will be willing to try at a different time again to see if better. Still not sure about the sweet salsa though but did not ask to see if there was a different kind. Willing to go again.

Jazzmin P.

Yelp
We used to go alot to this place till they starting serving roaches with the chips so if u like roaches this is ur place
google avatar

Wendy T.

Yelp
This is a good, solid Mexican restaurant with great service if you can get the servers to understand you. (Point at the things you want on the menu, otherwise I hope you speak Spanish.) Things I love: their fresh pico de gallo, their homemade taco chips that are NOT salted, their grilled shrimp, anythings with chicken and melted queso blaco, their rice and beans, their enchiladas, their fajitas, and their lunch specials. Warning: the chips and salsa are a meal in themselves. You may end up taking home leftovers. And that's not a bad thing at all.

V. P.

Yelp
Family of five, stopped in here because it was close to the R.V. park we were staying in for the night. The food was fresh and the portions were large. The kids meal was a large portion as well! Service was friendly and prompt. We visited after 7pm.
google avatar

Jordan S.

Yelp
Service was THE WORST. The chips and salsa are great. We ordered and got our food pretty quick. The food was bland. Again, a chile rellano is a stuff poblano pepper...not diced bell pepper with puke on it. It looked like it was cooked by Chef Mike (microwave). Red sauce over everything. I will never understand that. We finished our food and 20 minutes later...guess who shows up? Super Server!! That is sarcasm...I'm laying it on thick..thicker than their bland beans. So to make a long story short. I threw up in their bathroom. Didn't buy the food...I guess I just rented it. Anyway...never returning again.
google avatar

Jason M.

Yelp
This place is great quality and has exceptional food. Highly recommended. The owner is a great guy!

Yelp
Stopped here on my way back to the hotel on my last day in Lexington, SC. I had just finished unloading & re-loading a 26' box truck with ATM machines & I was drenched w/sweat and very dehydrated when I walked in. I sat at the bar looking at the menu & a very kind hostess kept full glasses of ice water coming my way as I made up my mind. Ordered two chicken enchiladas, rice & beans & she threw in some home made chips & some fantastic salsa for me too. She also asked if I had any glass ware back at the hotel (which I did not), & gave me a massive go cup of ice & water to go... Very good meal. Loved the salsa. They also have an extensive seafood menu.
