7 Spring - Review - Nolita - New York - The Infatuation

"We’re seeing more and more boardgames and mahjong while dining out—7 Spring in Nolita is the first backgammon-themed cafe we've come across though. If you don’t know how to play, they’re offer classes and tutorials, as well as coffees and pastries. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Will Hartman

This is a newly opened café that I decided to visit on a weekday afternoon after liking the photos I saw. I ordered a glass of white wine, and with the cute tables and classic vibe, it felt like a nice spot to enjoy a drink alone or chat with a friend. The staff were friendly and everything was great, but it’s a real shame there isn’t a restroom.

It’s a great atmosphere, amazing backgammon boards; especially the ones on sale. The ambiance is very chic, love the concept of backgammon, wine bar and cafe. I just wished that they had some variety of middle eastern chai and coffee to honor the culture of backgammon, which is one of the oldest game ever.

It’s a gem that’s different than any other coffee shop in SoHo! The decor is elegant and cool, it smells incredible and the staff are super friendly. Got an iced matcha which was made with care. Definitely coming back for the backgammon board rentals. It was a dream to sit there before heading to my train.

The best backgammon cafe! I have come here with friends and stayed for hours. The place is perfect to play backgammon, catch up and get delicious drinks. Strawberry Matcha here is out of this world! The space is very clean and just beautiful. Highly recommend this experience!

I love this cafe! Beautiful interiors, felt very luxe. The coffee was excellent- one of the best lattes I've found in Manhattan. It's a great spot to play backgammon or just enjoy a coffee or glass of wine. Pastry selection also looked delicious so will try next time. The service was super friendly and we could've easily spent hours there. Will definitely be back and highly recommend!

For a cafe with a concept and atmosphere as neat as this one, a friendly and helpful barista would make the experience even better! I’ve had the same barista twice (glasses and short brown hair), whose unfriendly demeanor has unfortunately tainted my experience. Aside from this, the cafe has a wonderful atmosphere and it’s so refreshing to see a backgammon cafe in the city! I’m excited to continue to come back and play, hopefully with more enthusiastic staff in the future who also love the game.

I tried the strawberry matcha and it was really tasty. We rented a backgammon board and played with family and friends—it was such a fun experience. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to enjoy their special pastries, which are super crunchy and delicious. The staff were friendly too. Definitely recommend!

It is a very cool and cozy atmosphere The backgammon boards on display and available to play were fun to look at However, they absolutely need a waitlist of some kind When we arrived all of the tables were taken and we were told to just wait for a table to open up. We waited in the room for 20+ minutes and when someone got up, a person that had just walked in took it right away. They then recommended we go for a walk and come back to see if a table opened up. We did that and came back to there being even more people and no formal way to claim a spot. Very unsatisfying and frustrating. It makes it very hard to plan to visit this location when you have no idea whether you will be able to have a spot.

Yelp
What a cute, nice and interesting theme of this coffee shop. It is a Backgammon themed shop. They have boards in cases around the walls and they have many pictures of I think famous people playing this game. They have boards that you can rent to play while enjoying your coffee. What a great idea! This spot is on the small side but it is cozy. There is an out door table too. The barista this morning was very nice! Everyone should check out this place if you are in the area. I got an iced latte with regular milk. It was fine nothing out of this world. But I really think that the theme of this place makes me give it 5 stars and the barista as I said was very nice.

Yelp
7 Spring is pure class, a swanky coffee lounge with old Vegas vibes and a backgammon twist. The green La Marzocco turns out delightful coffee, and you can rent a gorgeous board to play surrounded by photos of celebrities mid-match. As someone who grew up in Vegas and learned backgammon from my late dad, this place feels personal, like it was made for me. A lucky, unforgettable find in New York.
