Favorite restaurant ever!! Never disappoints! Food is the same amazing quality every single time! The service is always amazing! They know everything about all the food items and are very nice! Beautiful spot! Recommend for small dates or bigger parties!

Very happy to see this started as a one soup dumpling stand in Taipei has now become a sophisticated and efficiently-run chain on West Coast, and soon it's largest store in NYC. Enjoyed its still traditionally flavored cold dishes like the wooden black ear fungus and seaweed with tofu strings, but also it's newly created taro bun. Actually, the one dish that I thought was so so was it's signature soup dumpling. Give them an extra star for providing Golden Hour, aka Happy Hour, deals with half the portions and discounted price, and do not bring out the dessert until you are ready.

So overrated. The only thing I'd like to come back for is the dessert & it's the chocolate xaio. Those were fire. The service was just OKAY. The food was bland & not flavorful. Maybe we just didn't get the right items? Idk maybe one day we will return

I am always excited to see a din tai fung, but this visit was a bit disappointing. I had my dog with me, so I had to order take out, which isn't ideal for soup dumplings, but there were tables right outside in the mall, so I was hopeful they would keep for the 40 ft I needed to walk. I ordered the pork and crab roe soup dumplings and the garlic green beans. The garlic green beans were good, but the pork and crab roe soup dumplings looked small and dry like they had been sitting out for awhile. The temperature was slightly above room temperature, considering that I opened the food within minutes this was a big fail. Perhaps if I ate at the restaurant things would have been better, but definitely do not recommend ordering take out for the soup dumplings here. The flavors were alright, but it just it just didn't taste freshly cooked. Pretty disappointing.

the dtf set up back home in arcadia is kinda exposed but i like how this is designed a bit hidden and more private if that makes sense ~ first timers sitting down and all and had a splendid time! i've honestly had better and more authentic taiwanese food, but not bad at all! solid 7/10 especially after i tried the chocolate xlb with sea salt on the side (an extra $1) hMmMm we ordered crab (cute lil indicator too) and pork xlb and they weren't piping hot . the spicy wontons, both chicken and pork were standard hehe i lovvv the chili oil but it's not too spicy! the pork chop fried rice was a bit underwhelming, as my friend phillip mentioned it needed white pepper and i totally agree. i also wish that there were more minced up garlic in the string beans !! but great attentive service tbh it was also funny to eat at an asian restaurant and still be a minority xD

This was my first time at Din Tai Fungs new location in the Pioneer Place Shopping Center. The atmosphere is beautiful with a nice open design. Although I only ordered my food to go, my experience was very disappointing. The girl at the front had a rude attitude upon arriving to pick up my order. Refused to give any of the sauce packets they always give with your order. The taste of the food was subpar. I ordered the vegan spicy wontons, vegan dumplings, and vegan buns. Although fresh tasting they were not very flavorful and had barely any filling. As someone who has absolutely loved visiting this restaurant, I think I'll stick to the Washington square location where their food and service are far superior to this one.

From the incredible food to the out of this world service, you can't beat the vibes at Din Tai Fung. Very nice place, very clean, and the perfect vibes for a nice dinner out. Before I get to the food, I wanna start with the true start of the show OUR SERVICE. Minh was so friendly, knowledgeable, and so helpful. Kind to my special needs son and even mixed our sauce to us as he explained the process. The service never slacked and we left hoping to have Minh again next time. Great job!!! Now to the food, WOW! Incredible dumplings, savory meat choices, and the most insane green beans you'll ever eat. We went in with one mission, to try as much as we could. Everything was incredible! There wasn't one item that we didn't enjoy. Price points range from like $8-$20 per item and they recommend dining family style. Overall, I give this place a 15/10 and can not wait to return.

Some of the best Asian food in Portland - the pork dumplings were phenomenal as well as the noodles. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious tho I wish there was a little more meet with the noodles. I loved the upscale nature of the restaurant with the ambiance, with a lowscale price and extensive menu. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a simple dimly lit restaurant with a wide selection and quality food and service

I was lucky enough to have found my way to the Seattle location back in 2008 and it blew my mind. The wrappers are so thin. I went again in 2022 and was still impressed. This Portland location was alright. Its a hard thing to live up to expectations. The textures were spot on, and the flavors were good... but the fillings were a bit of a weak spot. Dumplings like this a little tender balls of comfort, but why not have some options with a little more guts? Maybe I should go back and try the truffle dumplings? Oh.. and it was the last hour on a Thursday- service was completely distracted with closing duties - that kinda dominated the atmosphere too. I wanted to come earlier, but the waitlist had me wait 90 min until the place was almost empty. That was weird.

My friends and I recently dined at this restaurant and sampled a variety of dishes from the menu. This spot has a fantastic ambiance and is conveniently located on the ground floor of the mall, making it an easy choice for a casual lunch outing. First off, the food did not disappoint. We kicked things off with a spread of appetizers, including cucumber salad, noodle salad, and garlic string beans were fresh and delicious. Next, we had the Chicken XL baos--an absolute standout, with the perfect blend of flavors and textures. The vegan dumplings and buns were decent but didn't wow us as much as the chicken mushroom buns, which were fantastic. For the mains, we tried the noodles with sesame sauce and the noodles with spicy sauce - both dishes were flavorful. And let's not forget dessert: the chocolate XL Baos were a delightful end to our meal, while the red bean Baos and chocolate buns were good but didn't quite hit the same high note. Overall, the taste and experience were top-notch, though it was a bit on the pricey side. We found the service to be a bit slow, but the quality of the food made up for it.

A staple in my friend group we always know we're going to have great food & be full afterwards. They are always so kind & helpful they will try to get you in as soon as possible. This is a smaller location but it still is the same great quality of food. The lychee mojito & margarita are delicious. My must for me are the sweet ribs & the chocolate xiao long bao.

I had tried Din Tai Fung in Seattle and wanted to try the Din Tai Fung in Portland. The food was good, but I felt like the service was nowhere near as good as the service in Seattle. The service in Seattle was excellent. I felt like I always had to flag someone down at this location in order to place an order for food or for a drink. Perhaps that was due to the fact we were sitting in the seating near the bar area? Nevertheless, I was a bit disappointed. I was always flagging someone down whereas in Seattle our server was always attentive. I also noticed there was no chili sauce or soy sauce at the table. I didn't realize there was something missing until I had left. The chili sauce is outstanding. Food was still good, consistent. I ordered some of the dishes I had tried last time I was there. This time, I ordered the rice cakes - I wasn't a big fan of that dish, but all the other dishes were fine. All in all, it was a nice dining experience but the "wow" factor wasn't nearly what I had experienced in Seattle.

This place is popular for a reason! I had to make a reservation just to get the time I wanted. The service was quick and got my food 10 minutes after ordering. I had purchased my own boba from another franchise and Din Tai Fung allowed me to drink my boba. Honestly, the food was just enough for two people. I was eating alone but took my food home since I was stuffed. The braised beef soup was to die for. The beef was tender and spicy enough for me. It was delicious. The soup dumplings were good but definitely not wow. I did order the Nutella dumplings too and those were good. However I did take that home and it was cold. So I couldn't taste it real time. definitely a good franchise if you're visiting the west coast. It's nice they had boba options too (I didn't try it though)

I got the 1) Cucumber Salad 2) Sesame Noodles 3) Pork Xiao Long Bao Overall solid food and service! I loved the Xiao Long Bao and they are small so think about ordering two! If I were to go again based on the price and food, I'd stick to dumplings and skip the noodles. The noodles are decent, but the soup dumplings and their other dumplings are what they're know to specialize in! You can also see the the chefs preparing the food as you get seated! It's a good place that is not too loud to take friends and have a group meal or one on your own. I'm gonna have to come back for all the dumplings!

This is my favorite restaurant at the moment. First time was trying it last year in Vegas and I have been there about 10 times since. I have a couple locations in Portland and I love that they have vegan options. I always get the vegan spicy wontons. Cucumber salad and noodles with spicy sauce. Even the rice is amazing.

We came here recently for lunch because of of our friends have never tried it. We were able to get seated promptly on the bar side, and the server was quick to take our order. We ordered a good amount of items for the three of us and were able to finish them all. We ordered the pork and chicken soup dumplings, the chicken and kimchi dumplings, braised beef noodle soup, pork chop fried rice, Shanghai rice cakes with pork, and wontons in spicy sauce. The food came out at a reasonable time, and everything was consistent as usual.

Always consistent... I really love the dumplings services spot on easy and easy out! The cabbage oddly is really yummy as well as the dumplings ! Not a fan of the hot and sour soup they put noodles in it and that's not typical.

The food all came out like how I was expecting for the most part, but this place feels like it's losing touch. The waiters carry the dumpling containers in a short stack up against their body with no plate underneath, I wonder if that's the reason why the soup dumplings aren't hot. Service is a bit exaggerated. For $40 per person I'm expecting perfect dim sum, didn't get that

Din tai fung is always a great experience- excellent food, good service, and a nice ambiance even being inside the mall. I would recommend a reservation as it tends to get busy during popular times. I am obsessed with the chocolate and mochi XLB with a side of sea salt cream. The truffle XLB is not worth the price. The chicken spicy wontons, the cucumbers, and the pork XLB are consistently delicious. Don't waste your time on the noodles or fried rice- the XLB and dumplings are much better!

No wait at all on a Thursday afternoon. It was nice they provided a baby plate and plastic silverware for my baby. I liked that they had a golden hour and I wished more locations did as well. I was able to save a little bit. The pork soup dumplings weren't steaming hot when they were served. The chicken soup dumplings were good. I liked the sticky rice with mushroom and the chicken dumplings. Definitely order the chocolate buns for dessert!

While it's definitely "white tablecloth" dim sum, the XLB is some of the best I've hade. They had a few different types, and we ordered both the traditional and truffle XLB - both were incredible. The chocolate mochi boa with the salt cream was incredible! The service was also exceptional. While I still love authentic dim sum, this place it great for people who've never had it before.

The star of the restaurant in my opinion was the Salted Caramel black tea! It was so good I licked all the foam inside around the glass. I couldn't believe that this will be my the main reason I want to go back. The pork dumplings were good. The noodles were good and had lots of sauce made with oyster and soy sauce. The seaweed and tofu salad was perfectly seasoned. The service was superb and the bathrooms were clean, too. It's beautifully decorated and the prices were fair for today's workforce and food.

I made two visits to this location over a week and both were excellent experiences. This location is on the bottom floor of Pioneer Square. The restaurant was about half full during lunch both times, so the noise level was low and it was easy to have conversations. Visit #1 (3/28) our server was Cameron P and on visit #2 (4/2) Mateo C was our server. Both were excellent and friendly and promptly took our order when we were ready. This time around, I was dining with a vegan person in the group, so most of what we ordered leaned towards plant-based options. The quality of the food was consistent with other DTF locations I've been to, which is to say it was high quality. Everything came out quickly and fresh. The people I dined with are fairly new to DTF, so they were impressed with all the offerings, including some excellent vegan dumplings and noodles. I've eaten through most of the menu and everything is good, but the items I always order are the Kurobuta Pork XLB, Shrimp & Kurobuta Pork Spicy Wontons, String Beans with Garlic, Pork Chop Fried Rice and the Sesame & Mochi XLB. It's hard to dine solo here and I'd recommend getting a group of 4 people if you want to be able to sample a lot of what the restaurant has to offer, but I'll definitely come back!

This marks my fourth visit to the Pioneer Palace location, and once again, I'm impressed by the consistent level of service and the exceptional quality of the food. My favorite vegan dishes are the wood ear mushrooms, spicy vegan wontons, vegan dumplings, and Shanghai vegan rice cake. A must-try combination is dipping the vegan dumplings into the spicy vegan wonton sauce. I highly recommend trying the yuzu margarita. It had a nice blend of sweet and citrusy yuzu flavor, which I found refreshing! The ambient lighting creates an elevated atmosphere, perfect for making any occasion special.

Din Tai Fung is the best. This was my first time having the vegan experience at DTF and I would say that it is very good and comparable to all the non-vegan options as well, as ling as you're ok with no XLB (spicy wontons are the best anyways). This was also my first time at the Pioneer Square location. The service and general vibe of the restaurant was the same as the Washington Square location... The food was pretty much the same, but I cant do a 1:1 comparison as I ate vegan here. I got the vegan rice cakes, vegan dumplings, vegan spicy wontons, and woodear mushrooms. My favorites were the spicy wontons and rice cakes. The rice cakes have a nice chewy, but not too chewy texture. The sauce is kinda like a chow mein sauce. I loved it overall and I'm definitely adding this to my normal DTF order rotation. The vegan spicy wontons taste the same as the non-vegan ones. I mean, the real star of the show is the sauce that you toss the wontons in. I could drink it straight up. The vegan dumplings were really good and I dipped them in the spicy wonton sauce . Please go to DTF if you have never been... the spicy wontons and rice cakes are mandatory orders

Coming from SoCal we still went to Din Tai fung all the way to Portland and was so surprised about having no wait time on a Saturday evening without a reservation. Food tasted just as great and Hunter was so attentive in making sure all the foods came out. Such great customer service!

It was good and I enjoyed my meal here and I certainly respect the sh*t out of any place that makes their own dumplings by hand and every single day. Service was SO great and polite and attentive and all the things you want it to be. But I've had better versions of this same food elsewhere and for what I paid for it....I'm not sure it was what it should and could be...aside from the server-he was great! I may have hyped myself up too much about this place beforehand...or maybe since it's one of their newer locations it was still getting staff trained...maybe

Restaurant design is great. Din Tai Fung is always a solid choice for Taiwanese food. Most entrees are in the $16 to $18 range so it can get a bit pricey but, the quality of the food matches the price. Portions are medium so it's definitely not an average Chinese restaurant for portion sizes, where portions are usually XL.

I've been here a few times since Din Tai Fung opened in Portland. Overall, I'd say it's one of the better Chinese food places around but they have pricy, small-sized portions. However, the xiao long bao (soup douplings) alone are amazing and worth a try. My favorite is the pork xiao long bao. I also really enjoy the wontons, cucumber salad, and Shanghai rice cake. Overall you can't go wrong with what you order - just go in larger groups to save some money on the cost. I've never had an issue with service and ambiance, would definitely recommend everyone try this at least once.

This wil be one of my new go to joints. I can tell they stay busy and picked the perfect night to go. No real wait with reservation. Good ambiance, friendly & helpful staff, great decor, and delicious food. I will definitely be returning. All of the ingredients were fresh, prepared properly, and resulted in the perfect meal. From the shrimp fried rice, chicken fried noodles, chicken dumplings, and braised beef noodle soup, everything was delicious. You won't be disappointed. I've been finding some winners lately.

Came here on Saturday. No reservation and it wasn't busy, probably due to the holiday weekend. Sat immediately and our server Elizabeth was attentive and personable. We got our usual, two orders of xiao long bao, string beans with garlic and rice cakes. They were out of warm sake (bummer bc it was chilly out) so we went with a cold one. The only thing i thought was strange was the multi-step check in process. Check in with one person, then re-check in a few steps away and pick up your menu, then wait for your name to be called. I imagine that makes sense on busier nights.

Located on the lower level of Pioneer Square, Din Tai Fung offers authentic soup dumplings and noodles. I ordered their soup dumplings and cold matcha latte and they did not disappoint... although the dumplings were slightly smaller than the ones I normally have. The customer service was on point and very professional. I love the ambiance, it was very clean and modern.

Food was delicious, lacking the quality of other locations. Service was attentive and very helpful. We sat by the bar it was very loud. I've been to the Washington square location my friend who dined with me went to the Tokyo location and we agreed the food is all the same but quality was slightly lacking. The green beans were slightly undercooked, they were harder than ones I've had from this chain. The soup dumplings didn't have much of any soup in them. The spicy vegan noodles were clumped together. When I tried to eat a few of them the whole dish of noodles moved with it. I had to break it up to eat. I wouldn't order it again. I love the food here and it was great but not completely to our standards of dim tai fung locations we've dinned at. I love this chain and for the price I'll go where I know the quality of food is consistently delivered at a high standard.

I had really high expectations for this place as everyone I know raves about it, but was so disappointed. We were the first ones there for the 11 am seating, and still waited to get shown a table, even though they had many staff people and literally no other customers. The staff, I will say are very nice and serve like a high end establishment, so that is good, you will be treated well, once you get to a table. We ordered a lot for two people. But, it was all so-so. The truffle soup dumplings (25$ if I recall), we're so over hyped, and came with a whole protocol of new plates and chopsticks so "not to mix the flavors" and water to cleanse between eating other dishes. Not needed, in this person's opinion. They were good, but not, wonderful. Other dishes were okay, the chili chicken wontons were by far the best thing we got, almost with a sweet spice flavor, and good quality oil. Others like the chicken mushroom buns, we didn't continue eating after a bite. I'd go back with other people to try different things, but would not choose this place on my own again. And, it's expensive. Two for lunch was about $180 not including tip for us (w/drinks).

It's been awhile since I've been to a Din Tai Fung but now that there is one in Portland it's even easier to get my fix. What We Had: - Hot and Sour soup - Spicy chicken wontons - Pork dumplings - Pork buns Pros: - Great food!!! - Staff was very helpful and energetic - Food was well spaced out Cons: - Entrance checkin is a bit convoluted and has too many moving parts with little explanation - why do I get a paper order sheet and pencil before I sit down? Or at all? - I dislike the perception of a free refill without being told it's not free. Just tell me when you get me another that they are charged separately. Overall: The cons don't stop me from coming back but they're points I hope get wrinkled out sooner.

Went on a Monday afternoon so it wasn't busy. Service was quick and food was delicious. The Kurobuta Pork Xio long bao is a must try. The chocolate dumplings xio long baos, I was skeptical about but they were fantastic. The spicy wonton wasn't that spicy but it had a nice kick. I recommend noodles with the minced pork as they packed a lot of flavor! There was people celebrating birthdays there, so you can bring your own cake to cut, too.

Visited this restaurant on the 20th of April. Had never tried this newer location before - mostly have been visiting their Washington Square original restaurant. This is a convenient and safe venue, good looking... but I'm giving them lower than 5 stars because parking was a little challenging since nearby structure was closed for repair. And the front desk personnel was giving us hard time that if we are not all here within 5 minutes, they would give away our reserved table. So I had to run a few blocks to show up... I was out of breath but when I arrived (on time) they made our group wait for at least 10-15 minutes, although I was able to see available tables. It was not a big deal to me but my elderly parent is in their mid 80s and has an obvious disability... so that kind of "welcoming" was kind of baffling. I'm not upset, but I'm not exactly happy about this way of managing the front desk... Another little issue we experience was that the service here felt kind of impersonal. One server took our order sheet, and brought water, after which he basically vanished and we observed him serve all other tables except ours. Multiple other servers came to bring us the meal items, and in the end, I couldn't figure out who was our table's assigned server... so odd. Made it feel like a fast food type place. But this is not a cheap restaurant. More personal attention from the servers can go a long way! Fortunately, the food was really good so that was able to redeem them for the underwhelming welcoming and service. I've attached some pix since those are very indicative and each pic speaks a thousand words... hope you will like them. Maybe the staff here is all too new or too young (some appeared like high school age) and probably hasn't been in this line of work long enough to acquire the proper customer service and hospitality experience... or maybe they had little to no actual training. We will be visiting again and we hope our next time will be much more welcoming and professional. Wishing their business all the best!

I always enjoy the food here! It is nice to have a close by location in Portland. There is usually plenty of tables and seating available when I have visited. It is also very easy to get a reservation. The food is always great! The XLB is amazing but somewhat small. The chili wontons are so incredibly good. Cucumber salad is a hit but somewhat pricey. The noodles and rice cakes are good too, they're basically the same. I wish the value was a bit better for the price. On my most recent visit, the chili oil had a different flavor to it and the pepper flakes seemed small. It wasn't my favorite. I will likely come back again!

So happy to see Din tai fung in Portland! Here visiting family and excited to have them try it. I ordered the pear lychee martini and milk tea boba - both delicious! We tried the cucumber salad, sweet and sour pork ribs, chicken fried noodles, chicken xlb, pork xlb, potstickers, and spicy chicken wontons. All made to perfection. To finish we had the chocolate mochi xlb with sea cream - must. Everything was amazing- food, service, atmosphere, company. Always a pleasure eating at din tai fung!

I had Hot and Sour Soup. Incredibly hot, inedible. I had pork buns. Dough with pork ball. No sauce. I had Shrimp Fried Rice. Bland, under seasoned.

While the food was great and what you would expect from any DTF, the service was subpar (had to flag down a waiter to ask for our empty water glasses to be refilled) and slow (initial round of food took quite a while to come out), and we were seated in this weird annex area that was basically in the mall atrium - not the ambience I was looking for.

This was our first visit to the Pioneer Place location. They have made the space beautiful. The rest of the mall is a bit depressing with so many empty shops. But back to Din Tai Fung. We were there in the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday. There were lots of open tables but they must be short staffed in the afternoon because they gave us a beeper thingy for when they could seat us. It beeped before they said it would but that's ok. We enjoyed the cucumber salad, chicken XLB, string beans with garlic, and noodles with sesame sauce. We got the chocolate mochi Xiao Long Bao. That's always a must, with the melty chocolate inside a chewy dumpling. I recommend all those dishes. The thing I'm not in love with is their prices. If you want to save money, just go to Dough Zone. I like that they have more veggie dishes (like the green beans), but I don't want to go back to Din Tai Fung very soon because it's so pricey.

I am from a different state and I could tell the difference in quality from this restaurant and this restaurant back at home. This restaurant in this location is by far better!! The beef that I ordered tasted so good. It was cooked perfectly! I wish this type of quality was at the location back at home too. The chocolate buns and cucumber salad are a staple here, I definitely recommend it. Also the green beans were sooo good!! I usually don't like green beans but for some reason these ones tasted so good. I couldn't stop eating them. Shoutout to Kam for helping me out! He really was nice to talk too and gave me great recommendations! Overall 10/10 experience even though the wait was over an hour..

Have been to many DTFs - one of my favorite restaurants- first time here. It's located in lower level of Pioneer Place, a high -end multi story mall in downtown Portland. Was excited to try this location. We were seated quickly for lunch, Server did a great job of getting us drinks. The XLB was good, but tasted a bit off from others I've had. The beef noodle soup was spot on, as was the pork chop fried rice. Will I be back? Not sure. The biggest drawback is parking. The mall has access to structured parking, but DTF does not validate. Think this will limit my visits and may prove problematic for the restaurant's growth and success.

Good dim sum, but price is high, maybe 2x what you'd pay elsewhere (and not necessarily 2x the quality). You're paying for the ambiance, which is quite nice and upscale. They have a huge space but you should still make a reservation, they get packed! Service is quick and personable. The pork XLB are a must-have, as well as the spicy wontons. Cucumber salad and the steamed chicken & mushroom buns were both a little disappointing in terms of flavor, I'd pass on those the next time I come.
