Watched "The Sisters, Sweetwater" written by Hugo Sayles, directed by Jimmy Walker
The performance was fabulous! Two beautiful dancers lure the audience into the past with swaying hips and come hither looks. Then, the star appears, Janice Guy-Sayles plays the tragic, driven, complex Chelsea Sweetwater with compassionate understanding. Later, we are introduced to Chelsea's sister, Oleta, played by Felicia Gallegos Pettis. This shy, religious sister can still belt out a tune and nail a dance move as well as Chelsea, but she is hesitant to take center stage. The story builds as the sister's complex past is slowly reveled. The play was well paced with action, drama and comedic lines to break the tension, and punctuated with amazing music and dance performances including a beautiful rendition of "A Kiss to Build a Dream On" by Dee Burleson.
