Yelp
75 BBQ and Hot Pot buffet is realistically a 3.5 star restaurant based on last night's dinner, but I decided to round up to 4 stars because at the very least we left full and satisfied.
Overall 75 BBQ and Hot Pot is cool because it's the only place I know in Houston that serves both unlimited hot pot and grill your own bbq. But the place wasn't a 5 star restaurant because the variety is cool, but it would probably be more successful if they did one or the other to a higher quality.
On the BBQ side of things, the worst thing was how weak their tableside grills are. Even at the strongest setting, you barely got a good sear on the meats, and having to cook the meat longer than necessary made them tough in texture. I'll admit that the beef short ribs were the tastiest cut of meat offered, but after trying all the meats, that was the only meat we thought was worth getting. It'd be nice if they had a bigger meat selection without being the cheap tough, not as flavorful cuts.
On the hotpot side of things, the snow crab legs are by far where all your bang for your buck is. We definitely loaded up on snow crab legs every chance we got, which were perfect after you cooked them a little in the broth to heat them up. After experimenting with their sauce/condiments part of the buffet, our table kind of had a little contest to see who could make the best sauce accompaniment to our food. This fun social aspect definitely turns this restaurant meal into more of a dinner experience. Although again I do wish, they offered a bigger selection of meats, seafood, vegetables, and other hot pot items.
For dessert, which we barely had room for, they offered self serve ice cream and these mini mocha tiramisu type cake squares. Ice cream flavors offered were vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and cookies n cream. And even though the mini tiramisu squares were the only other dessert available, these little cakes were surprisingly light and addicting. Again a bigger dessert selection would be nice, but for what was offered dessert was quite satisfying.
Overall 75 BBQ and Hot Pot Buffet wouldn't be my first choice for dinner, but I'd definitely go again if someone invited me. At least for next time, I'd know how to make the perfect sauce, and get my fill on their beef short ribs, snow crab legs, and dessert.
