The Hart and The Hunter Review - Fairfax - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"When “Pali” falls before a word in this town, it means a few things. First off, turn around and go home because you’re probably not wearing enough black. Secondly, consider just staying at home. The end-high hospitality group’s properties have long thrived off exclusivity, awkward pseudo-nightclub dance floors, and the deep wallets of drunk CAA agents. So needless to say the offer of casual Sunday brunch at one of their establishments sounds unnecessarily stressful, right? Well, hold on. First of all, The Hart and The Hunter is located inside the PaliHotel, a few minutes drive but a world away from the colossal PaliHouse in Weho. The Hart and The Hunter acts as the all-day restaurant for the boutique hotel and aside from a few peak hours on the weekend, it remains largely serene and inoffensive. The interior has a relaxed, cafe-like feel and the side patio is a comfortable spot that looks out over the neighborhood. But more importantly, let’s discuss the prospect of their hangover-curing brunch. The Hart and The Hunter serves very good loosen-your-belt-buckle Southern comfort food. Your vodka-scorched stomach is rebelling? The only remedy is the best biscuits in LA. Sure, housing an order of them is like taking a point-blank butter cannon straight to the aorta, but it’s Sunday: time for calories. The Hart and The Hunter has a separate menu for each meal of the day and while there are some gems to be found on each, this restaurant thrives best in the late morning. So round up the crew and your favorite pair of sweats and go wash away your Saturday night sins with some old-fashioned American cholesterol. ClassPass starts on Monday. Food Rundown Butter Biscuits and Condiments Double check your health insurance plan and then go all-in on these steaming hot butter igloos. Served with pimento cheese, more butter (obviously) and peach jam, we’re not going out on a limb by saying these are far and away the best biscuits in town. Pork Hash All of the yes. Only served on the brunch menu, this hearty helping of peppers, potatoes, and sunny side up eggs is the ideal remedy for any Sunday hangover and a nice starting point for your upcoming food coma. Fried Green Tomatoes Your Southern BBQ dreams have finally come true. With a cornmeal crust and a side of Thousand Island Dressing, this is summer picnic goodness and easily shared amongst the table. Shaved Raw Brussel Sprouts This dish has the look and feel of something your stoner roommate threw together for a 4th of July party, but don’t worry. The crunch of those peanuts and a fist full of cheddar cheese are all that’s needed to make this appetizer a table favorite. Shrimp and Grits It’s hard to beat any version outside of South Carolina but The Hart and The Hunter has given LA a very respectable version. The shrimp is good and those grits are even better. Smoked Trout It’s hard to tell it from the menu but this might be one of the more dynamic versions of avocado toast around. The trout is served in a skillet and comes with a board full of fixings like pickled onions to put on top of your avocado masterpiece. Steamed Venus Clams Not the star of the menu by any means but still pretty good. And for $16 this massive portion is actually a phenomenal deal." - Brant Cox

Yelp
We came for Happy Hour... and were thoroughly impressed. I can't believe they aren't slammed because this was a very good deal. Happy Hour is 4-7 every day (!). The cocktails are under $10 with beer and wine $5-6! We had the beef sliders, which were large and very good ($10 for 2), the fries ($5) and the chicken tacos ($7 for 2). All were very good. Next time I want to try the flatbread and the feta dip. Lovely patio area and street parking is easy if you come early. Highly recommend for a Happy Hour or hell... make it a light meal.

Yelp
Came here for brunch on a Saturday - service was okay (it wasn't full but we had to flag down waiters to take orders and refill water) and the best aspect of this place is probably the location. Food 3/5 We ordered the chocolate pancakes, the eggs Benedict, the breakfast sandwich, and the breakfast special along with the lemonade + mint and matcha pistachio latte. Honestly everything here was okay at best, nothing really stood out about the meal and you're definitely paying a premium for the location and ambiance. I'd say all the food orders were a 3/5 rating given the price and the quality/amount of food given, and the only different ratings are the eggs Benedict and pistachio matcha at 2/5. The eggs Benedict hollandaise sauce lacked any flavor and as shown, they didn't give much sauce. The pistachio matcha tasted almost medicine-like, which happens when a low quality syrup is used. The shining star for the food were the fries. Overall I would not come back here as there are better brunch spots in the LA area and I don't think this place really caters towards people looking for a high quality meal. Also there's a 20% surcharge for parties of 6 or more which was upsetting given the service mentioned above!

Yelp
Dined here for Sunday brunch with a friend before hitting up The Melrose Trading Post. We came closer to the afternoon and they weren't super busy. We were seated in about 10 mins. Service was very mid - our server wasn't very upbeat and after we received our food, we were pretty much ignored until we had to flag him down for the check. In his defense though, I think he was the only server so the restaurant needs to work on their staffing! I had the eggs Benedict with their housemade sausage. My friend also had the Benedict but with ham. We also ordered the chocolate chip pancakes to share. The eggs were actually pretty good! I liked the seasoning in the sausage, and the hollandaise sauce was tasty too. The pancakes were just alright, a little on the dryer side. Overall the experience was between okay and good! Maybe if the service was better I would have felt more positive about it, but also at the same time their food didn't WOW me to the point where I would want to come back.

Yelp
Quaint atmosphere- comfortable seating-attentive servers- outdoor dog friendly seating available, good selection of menu items, food is tasty; I especially loved the pistachio matcha. Street parking.

Yelp
Came by for breakfast on a weekend with a friend - we just popped in and got a table inside. It's right inside/next to the Palihotel, which is a cute boutique hotel. I ordered the pistachio matcha slightly less sweet. I also got the egg ratatouille. The matcha was delicious! I loved it. The ratatouille wasn't quite a ratatouille, it wasn't what I had envisioned, it's more of a breakfast skillet veggie mix with a fried egg. It was decent but I'd try something else.

Yelp
This is such an adorable and tiny cafe. It's located inside the Palihotel on Melrose. If you're dining in there metered street parking out front. You can dine in or order to go. We just stopped in to get a quick drink. We got an iced pistachio matcha with cold foam and it was so delicious. I've never had pistachio milk and it's now one of my favorites! It was a perfect pick me up for the middle of the day. The service was amazing. The girl who helped us out was so sweet and had our drink ready in about 5 mins. I would definitely recommend if you're looking for a yummy matcha, can't wait to come back to try their breakfast!

Yelp
This place is SO CUTE! It was quite busy on a Sunday afternoon. Great place for outfit inspiration and people watching! I ordered the kale chicken salad and it was DELICIOUS. It was perfectly portioned and the dressing complimented it so well. I could eat this salad everyday. I wish I could! Service was okay but it wouldn't stop me from returning.

Yelp
Great food! Lovely place. My only complaint is the bathroom was on the second floor and totally unmarked. I think the first floor bathroom was not working that day. Signage people!

Yelp
The best place to get breakfast, lunch or brunch ! Super chill vibes. Great for meetings or dates. I love their pancakes so much. My favorite salad is the Greek salad with chicken. The dressing is amazing. Nice staff. Well priced . Quality food.

Yelp
Very few staff but she did best she could. It was a hot day and the patio was not the place to be. She nicely accommodated the move in door even though I did ask for outside. Very comfortable inside but I can get loud because it gets busy fast as it's part of a hotel. The dressing is casual and cute. Service is attentive but as I say they were short staffed so I will not knock the stars off. Food does come out fast after order. Very nice presentation on all orders. The salad nicely dressed with just enough condiments to not overwhelm. The croissant so flaky and not too oily. All in all delicious sandwich! Portion size is huge to make price worth it. About $30 a person for a meal and coffee. It is LA on Melrose after all! Parking is hard. Street meters only for 2 hours. There are other street parking on other side of streets but you'll have to walk.

Yelp
Brunched here with my friend on Sunday morning and was very pleased with everything. The restaurant is located inside the Palihotel and for parking, the only option is street. When we arrived we were seated immediately. The place is fairly small but they do have many tables and booths to fit the space. Our servers were friendly and we both ordered the Breakfast Combo which comes with 3 eggs any style, choice of protein, and pancakes or french toast. I got scrambled eggs, bacon, and pancakes. The bacon was delicious and was crispy with a slight chew (the best way to consume bacon). The pancakes were immaculate. I don't know what magic they put in them, but they were fluffy and almost cake like with a hint of vanilla. Everything was terrific and I'd come back.

Yelp
I have been here few times, It's a cute and cozy place for Sunday brunch on Melrose! However their service is really bad. They only have 2-3 servers running both inside and outside. First time we were there our two orders took more than 45 minutes, And when they were out, the fries was really cold so we had to ask them to change it.

Yelp
Stumbled across this great hotel restaurant when we parked out front to Google a breakfast spot. Soooo glad we stopped in. The staff was friendly and attentive and food was DELICIOUS. Would come back again ... and again. I ordered the breakfast combo with three scrambled eggs, bacon and blueberry pancakes -- they came out so perfect and delicious. Water was great! Iced espresso was delicious Espresso was delicious Thank you for a great experience!!

Yelp
Total letdown. The service was slow, the food was not only underwhelming, it was overpriced. This very simple egg dish was upwards of $20 when all was said and done - and the stingy serving of sausage was dry. The eggs were oily. Really totally disappointed.

Yelp
The location is right on Melrose! It opens kinda earlier than all the other shops around it. Additionally the food is good and the cappuccinos are great. It is located inside of a hotel lobby and it's a cozy vibe. They were quick to seat us, but one time we came here and there were no seats.
google avatar

Yelp
I have not been there lately, I liked going in the evening, but now it closes earlier (by 4). It is a great spot out on the patio.
google avatar

Yelp
Breakfast here was pretty solid. I got the breakfast combo, and the bacon was literally the best bacon I've ever had in my life. I even asked the waiter what the brand was, it was so good. The only miss was the scrambled eggs. Pretty blah. Lots of outdoor seating, which is nice!

Yelp
MARVELOUS MELROSE CAFE When I was trying to find a brunch place near Olympic and Laurel Canyon, Blue Daisy Cafe popped up. Since the Yelp reviews were stellar, we decided to go. We entered through the cool Palihotel Melrose on the corner of Melrose and Hayvenhurst, where the cafe has indoor seating, but we opted for a 2-top in the lovely, outdoor covered area along the side street. I dread those ridiculous QR codes when it comes to ordering, so I requested an old school menu, which they promptly provided. Because I like to eat a variety of things, the Breakfast Combo ($19) had my name on it. Since you get 3 eggs any style, I asked for scrambled. From the meat choices - bacon, turkey bacon, beef sausage patty - I chose the turkey bacon. For carbs, I went with the french toast with fruit instead of the pancakes. The eggs were perfectly scrambled, the bacon was tasty, and the french toast, topped with fresh strawberries and bananas was light and fluffy. Everything was so good, I cleaned my plate. My companion opted for the Iced Tea ($5) and the 3 Eggs Scrambled with Lox ($20), which she loved. Service can be a bit a slow, but this is a delightful place for a languorous brunch. Color me happy.

Yelp
Came here to eat before an event nearby and enjoyed our experience. Even tho we arrived a little before the brunch menu cutoff, we were still able to order the eggs benedict. The smoked salmon eggs benedict was really good but the housemade sandwich was a bit underwhelming and not to memorable. The Turkish Latte had an interesting taste and I'm not sure if I could finish one whole mug but I def recommend sharing it if you haven't tried it! It is located inside Palihotel so it may be confusing but the lobby receptionists will direct you where to go when you arrive. It's also a bit dark inside the restaurant but not to the point where my eyes felt uncomfortable. I recommend coming here if you need to grab a meal before something around the area. The workers and receptionist were all very hospitable.

Yelp
Wonderful vibes and cutely situated inside a hotel. Amazing croissant French toast, must try. Attentive service but took a while to get seated. Outdoor seating is quite nice as well.

Yelp
My friend and I shared both the Salmon Benedict & Strawberry Banana Nutella Crepe. They have bottomless mimosas too! Brenda was our server. She was great; She was really kind and very accommodating. I felt very good in her presence. Her shift ended though and she passed over the table to another server who was also accommodating. The ambiance of this place was super chill. Cute place for breakfast/lunch for a date or with friends. I would definitely go back.

Yelp
The food, service and ambiance create an isosceles triangle of excellence here. The French toast is amongst the very best in the city as they pile on bananas and strawberries. The texture of the toast was fantastic with crunch my crusts. We also had the slider sandwich which was a savory Mediterranean taste. The ambiance is that of a 70's cafe and has a great sized out door patio. This is yet another good all day breakfast spot to be found in the LA area. Thanks, Blue Daisy

Yelp
Love the chill LA Melrose vibe with eclectic ambiance and outdoor patio seating. Great place to breakfast and the portions are enough to share. Enjoyed an iced matcha latte and delicious eggs Benedict were made to order with scrambled eggs and sausage. Lunch is available too. While I appreciate the strong reviews from my fellow Yelpers, there was a big miss here on service. My entree never arrived and the service was slow.
google avatar

Denny H.

Yelp
Thought the food was absolutely delicious. Not over salted not over sweetened and the textures were excellent! Order the Eggs Scandia w smoked salmon and added avocado, which I would highly recommend doing as it added an additional layer of deliciousness to the overall combination. Also ordered the Croissant French toast And that was a new idea for me and It was a flurry of deliciousness! The textures contrasted but complemented each other with a different profile combinations of the chewy and dense but soft croissant, nuts, apple, banana, syrup, and ice cream! So delicious! The Turkish latte was Very tasty as well!

Yelp
Waited over half an hour for a very simple order (eggs with a side of sausage and an iced coffee) and they still got it wrong. The waiter served several people that arrived after I did before serving me and after asking about my order three or four different times. They did give me my iced coffee on the house. Annoying though

Yelp
This restaurant had been on my list of places to go to for a couple of months. Unfortunately, it did not offer the ambiance I was hoping for. The food wasn't great. It wasn't bad but it didn't wow me to want to return. Our glasses of water were not refilled regularly. Other tables had their own bottle of water and ours did not. And it was LOUD in the restaurant. As if we were in a bar setting. I don't understand how people are yelling at each other sitting only 3 feet away. Parking is not easily found in this location so if you have a reservation go with enough time to look for parking and sit outside (maybe it won't be so loud) .

Yelp
I've been to this spot a couple times and the food never disappoints! The service is about a 4/10 but the food makes up for that. I had to find the guys working there to pay for my tab and ask for some hot sauce but I'd say one of my favorite breakfast spots in LA for sure. Always quiet and never too busy. I'd give this place a 9/10 for the food but the service gets a 4 for me and that goes for both times I've been. I'll still go back for the food though!
google avatar

Yelp
I wish I could 3.5 stars. The ambiance was very nice. We sat indoors with a couch and our party of 4 was very comfortable. My husband and I shared the beef slider sandwich, and it was plenty big for the both of us. It had some unique toppings such as feta cheese, sliced cucumbers, and we enjoyed this bougie version of a hamburger. My daughter liked her breakfast burrito, but it was very heavy on the sausage which wasn't drained well, and it left puddles of grease on her plate. The best part of our meal was the seasoned fries! They had a nice kick to them and they were crispy. The worst part was the bathroom. It was gross, trash everywhere, out of soap, out of toilet seat covers, and out of TP. My boyfriend told the front desk, and when I went in, they only put more TP in there but just placed it on the back of the toilet instead of on the roll holders. This place probably wouldn't be our top choice for breakfast again, but we might give it another try someday.

Yelp
I love going here for brunch. Great service and I love the sujuk sausage with zataar. Shakshuka is not to my taste, I don't like the ground beef in it. Outside seats are just great and the cold brew coffee is just my taste. My to go place.
google avatar

Theodore C.

Yelp
The food was good. Portions were fair. Service was good. The restaurant was cute. Plenty of street parking. They seat you quickly. Prices are competitive. Ill return soon.

Yelp
So money. Great cozy vibe. Porch / restaurant / hotel lobby vibe. -- Food was fresh and tasty -- Only qualm... they didn't have the Persian tea the Santa Monica location has...
google avatar

Yelp
Great food. Great service. We visited on a Friday around noon and there was not a wait to be seated. Our food order was taken quickly and came out in less than 15 mins. We ordered the eggs Benedict with ham. Delicious. There was indoor seating and outdoor seating. If you are visiting with a party of more than three, best bet is indoor seating as the outside space is rather small.

Yelp
Had a really nice breakfast to myself here one morning after dropping my husband off at an appointment. I wasn't aware Blue Daisy was part of a hotel, but you can enter through the small lobby or the side door. I chose a table for myself on the patio because it was a lovely day, and it was a nice peaceful experience outside. I ordered the strawberry banana nutella crepe, which was stuffed with fruit and had a generous layer of nutella on top. I wish it came with syrup -- i forgot to ask for some and I didn't want to wait for the server to come back. Also got a side of the rosemary potatoes -- they were HOT and crispy on the outside and cooked perfectly. The iced coffee was certainly not the best I've ever had, but it was a nice portion and did the trick.
google avatar

Priscilla Y.

Yelp
Came here w my friend around 2pm on a Saturday after getting coffee at Community Goods which is a short 2 min walk away. This is located in the Pali Hotel but you can enter from the side in Hayworth street. The outdoor area is super cute to enjoy your meal outside. It wasn't crowded so we were seated right away. They have standard brunch items and we ordered the Avocado Toast with $2 egg , the Croissant Bacon Egg and Cheese Sandwich and a side order of seasoned fries. The fries were the best because of the way they seasoned it. Tip: there's only one gender neutral bathroom on the first floor but you can go upstairs in the hotel for the 2nd one if there's a line. Overall I'd come back here again to have brunch again!
google avatar

Aliyah C.

Yelp
I was meeting a friend here who was running late and the servers were so patient and letting me wait for them. The place was nice, the front part is a hotel which is a little confusing. The mimosas here are pretty juicy but good! I got the zaatar eggs which was actually so good and different from anything I have gotten before!!
google avatar

Trav B.

Yelp
Perfect spot for a classic breakfast or brunch. The vibe is lively but not overwhelming. The staff is great. And the food always hits the spot no matter what we order. And if all of that wasn't enough, the fact that you can order sides of Nutella with your French toast/ pancakes had us sold from day one. Blue Daisy has become one of our favorites and I have nothing but good things to say about our experiences there. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Jade M.

Yelp
Food was good! Great server, poached eggs perfect, nice croissant, salmon croquettes crispy, nice strong coffee. We left fast, though, because between the loud music and the screaming customers it became "hello migraine". I'll come back again when it's not busy.
google avatar

Sylvia K.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast with my family and ordered Eggs Bennedict, Nutella Banana Strawberry Crepe, and a Housemade Beef Slider Sandwich. Waited probably around 10-15 minutes for the food to arrive. The crepe was really good, and probably the best crepe I have ever had. The eggs bennedict was very filling and delicious as were the potatoes and fries. The slider was not bad, though it wasn't nearly as good as we had expected. If we happen to be around the area I would definitely come back!

Yelp
12/20/2023 Blue Daisy Melrose was a great first brunch in Los Angeles. When I went to visit LA, I wanted to have a unique brunch near my Airbnb in West Hollywood and thus was my choice to dine at Blue Daisy Melrose. When you go into building, you enter in a lobby which may confuse some but you can ask the front desk for the Blue Daisy Melrose which is straight down the doors. Blue Daisy Melrose is a smaller cafe with a central long rectangle table, 3 booths with vintage Hollywood star paintings, and a couple of tables towards the window side. The ambiance is rather dim lights, contemporary music, but had a nice lavish holiday decoration. The service was nice where the waiter recommended me the Zaatar Eggs & Sujuk and Turkish Latte. My drink and food came out really quickly. The Turkish Latte was very strong a bit bitter which was exactly what I needed after a very early flight from San Francisco. The Zaatar Eggs & Sujuk was hearty, seasoned, and perfectly spiced. The dish had spices and herbs that had depth but also had good palate cleansers with a side of avocado, cucumbers, and tomatoes. The Zaatar Eggs & Sujuk had a very nice palate balance which was pleasant. Blue Daisy Melrose was very different from what I imagined it to be but I enjoyed the food and dining experience!

Yelp
Relaxing brunch option steps from the heart of the Melrose Arts District. Stunning inside and a patio adjacent. Fresh & spicy breakfast burritos, egg & avocado filled croissants sandwiches demand your attention.

Morgan H.

Yelp
Terrible service. Found a HAIR in my water glass after I drank it and they only gave me a 10% discount
google avatar

Yelp
With all the five star reviews, Blue Daisy seemed like the perfect choice for lunch this afternoon. With that being said, I wish I could say I also had a five star experience. For lunch we ordered the Mango Chicken Salad which definitely fell short. The mango and avocado were the best part of the salad. The dressing was very light and quite boring. It definitely needed a dressing with a little more flavor and creaminess to give the salad some body, if that makes sense. The chicken was also bland. The kale salad also fell short, but was enjoyed more than the mango salad. The service was not great. Our server never came back to see how our meals were or to ask if we needed refills or something else to drink. We had to wave to get his attention. The prices were pretty standard for most places these days, street parking available. Please note, there is only 1 very small restroom available, definitely not handicap accessible.
google avatar

Yelp
Customer service was amazing but the food could've been better for the price ... bread was extremely hard ): matcha was good but we did want it iced not hot would come back for something else since they have hard bread ...

Yelp
Food Service & Ambiance. All excellent. We ordered the waffle, crepe and farmers cheese & eggs. Soooo good :)

Yelp
Really nice looking place right outside of a small hotel. Looked very elegant. Service was very slow and the food was ok. Nothing to scream about. Presentation was nice and food temp was nice. Drinks were simple, just ordered mimosas. Staff seemed pleasant. Reason for 4 stars was the restroom. There was only one (used by everyone). It was disgusting. Floor was wet with what I presume to be urine. I was disappointed because this was the only restroom that was on the outside even for guests if they were eating at the restaurant. Disappointing to say the least.
google avatar

Dania P.

Yelp
5 stars for the service provided! If you're interested in a small quiet dinner this is your place. This is a hidden gem located in the lobby of a hotel. It seems like they don't get big parties or much business besides the hotel guests. Ran very similar to a mom and pop shop the gentleman who helped us out took our order, made our drinks and brought out the entrees. The drinks were delicious and very strong! Also got them during happy hour pricing which was a plus! Our server overheard we were celebrating a birthday so he brought out a crepe without us even mentioning anything!! And it was by far one of the best crepes I've ever had.
google avatar

Vru S.

Yelp
Have been here for brunch, lunch, and dinner! Good options for both, most for breakfast. Definitely recommend Mediterranean Style Eggs and Avocado Toast are fantastic! Same for freshly made OJ. Lattes are ok and sweet crepes are overstuffed.
