Logan Circle’s Viceroy Hotel Wants to Offload Its Marquee Restaurant | Eater DC

"Downtown Frederick’s Ordinary Hen closed on Saturday, May 17, and the historic mansion site at 228 North Market already has a new name and menu. Under the direction of chef Christian Blouin, formerly of Firestone’s, and new ownership, the operation plans to celebrate the mid-Atlantic legacy of the Houck sisters, who built the late-1800s-era house. Dishes include oysters dressed in blackberry mignonette and seared crab cakes flanked with whole grain mustard. Reservations go live on Thursday, May 29." - Tierney Plumb

I visited 7th Sister in downtown Frederick to celebrate my birthday, and it was an absolutely amazing experience from start to finish! The atmosphere struck the perfect balance of cozy and elevated: a vibe that felt both special and inviting. The staff went above and beyond to make the evening feel personal and celebratory. Everyone we interacted with was so friendly, welcoming, and our server’s recommendations were spot-on. The food was just…wow. The chef’s plate was divine — each bite perfectly balanced and beautifully plated. The burrata was creamy and fresh, and the crab cakes were easily some of the best I’ve had anywhere (Maryland-approved!). And even though I wasn’t drinking, their mocktails were next-level — truly the best I’ve ever tasted. If you’re looking for a spot that feels special but not stuffy, where the food and service are equally exceptional, 7th Sister is it. I left feeling celebrated, full, and already looking for a reason to plan my next visit!

Pros: Love that they offer happy hour! Sliders were good. They have very unique drinks. The espresso martini was so good! Bartenders were friendly and attentive! Con: restaurant space is plain- could be dressed up

The latest iteration of a restaurant in the beautiful house that most know from Volt days does a lot right. Enough so that despite an impossibly long delay between our oysters and entree, we came away feeling positive about the experience. The MD oysters were flavorful and not too briny. The Chesapeake risotto was perfectly cooked and not too salty (common problem for risotto). The masterpiece was the Romanesque Branzzino where every component on the dish elevated everything else.

We stopped in after strolling around town. We sat on the patio and it was beautiful the old charm of the building was excellent and the brick wall provided a nice buffer from the street. On Sunday they only offer brunch and they close early. The French toast was thick and had great flavor. We thought it could use less of the fruity pebble cream but overall it was good. We also ordered the chicken sandwich which was very delicious. The sweet and salty of the old bay honey paired really well. We also ordered several different cocktails and they were all delicious. I will warn you that the lobby had a very off putting smell, but the patio didn’t share that smell.

This is a great date night spot. We were seated by the Christmas Tree and a window which added to the atmosphere. Every dish and drink was masterfully crafted and more importantly everything was delicious. Service was very attentive and helpful with any questions we had. On site parking which was pretty full but not having to park in a garage was nice. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful scenery in the outdoor seating era. My best friend had a birthday party here for her mother's 65 and when I brought my mother along. We were blown away by the outdoor decor and seating. It was beautiful. Food however, not so much. Tip for kitchen staff, the burgers were way too salty and no flavor. Please revisit how the burgers are being seasoned. I ended up sending it back and got the porkchop. That was delicious. Staff was very attentive. The bill process definitely took longer than usual and this process could use some work.

So on a Saturday afternoon about 230pm I wasn't planning on brunch... However brunch it is on a Saturday 11am to 3pm... So if your looking for lunch or dinner come after 4pm. As for brunch we had 2 hits and a sorta miss... The Eggs Benedict (good) and the Eggs Market (GREAT) were both tasty filling meals.... I'll return for the Market version. The appetizer Watermelon and Whispers...sounds like an odd yet tasty combo but for $17 it is barely a nibble for 2...it was OK at best felt like I overpaid on that one. Overall mostly a good meal...sat outside and it was great no bugs buzzing around... service was good but our server did disappear for a bit to be replaced by someone else...shift change??? Maybe we were overlooked for a bit but overall service was OK.

Such a cute hidden gem , and the prices were VERY fair, even generous for such amazing food quality!

Yelp
This is really a 3.7 or so. My wife and I have been to the last three restaurants in this space and never been really wowed by any of them, but we had heard the cheesesteak here was really good and wanted to give it a shot. We came by around 5 on a Wednesday, which was happy hour, and so treated ourselves to half price cocktails, which were solid. We sat outside to enjoy the fall weather and the waitstaff was attendant and courteous. We already knew what we wanted and it didn't take long for the food to come out. The crab dip we ordered to start was between warm and hot which is how I prefer it to avoid the risk of a burned mouth and the flavor was there even if the lumps of crab were not. The cheesesteak and fries were great, a little short of the best I've had simply due to the high bar on that, but very tasty nonetheless. Why 3.7? Mostly value, really. The prices on everything are maybe $2-3 higher than they should be. I hope they're able to stick around and find a successful formula, anyway.

Yelp
First time coming here. The cheesesteak was one of the best food items I have eaten in Frederick--the horseradish aioli was melt-in-your mouth delicious. My wife ordered one of the salads with steak--very fresh and a fantastic vinaigrette, and the extra steak she added was very very good. Ordered two cocktails and was very impressed by both, elevated and delicious. Knowing that the pastrami sandwich and the crab dip are both from Firestone (same head chef), which were already some of the best in the city, this new spot was a winner. Will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
5 stars for brunch! I hope they do well here. (I went to the last restaurant..the one after Volt and I didn't review it bc I was not a fan) I would like to see 7th Sister succeed in this space. They have a great menu for both brunch and dinner. We got the bread and oil (with goat cheese) I love that they source out to a local bakery for the bread. My mom said "I would make a meal out of this bread alone" -- it was really good. I see they also have a Maison Brunswick avocado toast which will have to wait for a return visit. I got the eggs Chesapeake and it was fine. I went because I saw their amazing Bloody Mary on instagram, but they didn't have it anymore, so I had to get their *basic* Bloody Mary, which turned out to be fine. I also got the matcha cocktail... couldn't really taste the matcha but it was still refreshing. I would like to make a return visit!

Yelp
the bacon on the brunch burger was fatty the Eggs Chesapeake may have had 3 small pieces of crab meat, Cost of the meal with tip was over $100.00

Yelp
We have been to all the restaurants here since Volt and this was amazing! High recommend. We got the private room to celebrate Father's Day and everything was perfect! Crab cake and ribeye and the fish were all great! Onion soup was on sweeter side so we were not crazy about it. Service was phenomenal.

Yelp
Tell me why they gave us shot glasses to drink water!?!? While everyone else has regular sized glasses of water We also didn't get our utensils till our food arrived and we had to ask for it. Everyone else had their utensils set for them before the water arrived. I definitely felt discriminated against...I will never come back here again!

Yelp
Wait staff needs work Waiter poured a little wine on table walked away did not wipe it up. Took away utensils didn't bring new till we asked. We said we were sharing 3 deserts no extra plates. I would put a chef in courtyard on a grill with a tub of beers and bring in local talent. To get the courtyard hopping.

Yelp
We shared oysters and chopped salad. The salad was big enough to share and with olives and chick peas, it could have been a stand alone meal. The 2 oyster types available 6/6 were very different. One was delicate and paired with the chef's recommendation of crème and berry glacé. The other was a beefy bold flavor that did well with horseradish. Hubby loved his medium rare, juicy steak with truffle fries. The crusted scallops were tender and paired with creamy grits. The grilled cabbage had too much oil for my taste- but I ate it all. The coffee was great! Skipped dessert due to being full but enjoyed a rum flight. It was an adventure in differences. Our waitress comped hubby's drink because she thought she was too slow. We didn't notice slow service. If you've enjoyed earlier restaurants in this space, it is pretty much the same but somehow more comfortable. We'll be back.

Yelp
We were going to have family in town and had reservations for The Ordinary Hen. About a week before our reservation, I got a call telling us that the restaurant had new owners, a new chef and new menu. We were disappointed but game to try it. When we arrived, we were told that their opening night last night didn't happen so this was their first night, so please be patient. We were seated and soon realized the woman at the neighboring table was very loud. The hostess quickly and subtly moved us at our request. The evening and food turned out wonderfully. The server was one we knew from The Ordinary Hen. He was attentive even while he was training a new waiter.

Yelp
7th Sister recently had their opening, after changing ownership and chef. The food was underwhelming for the price. I encourage everyone to try this place, however, it wasn't my favorite food experience.
