On and off, I have visited 8 Mile Foodland for various reasons. Recently, I was out with my mother and one of her friends, and we found ourselves there one evening while gathering ingredients for her church dinner. Granted, I was just along for the ride, so I was not looking for anything in particular. However, I must say, I would be willing to return for my future grocery needs.
One of the first things I noticed about this store is that it is very bright inside. It was dark and after 8pm outside, but it felt like I was in broad daylight in both the parking lot and the store. Second, for a store its size, they had one of the widest selections of produce I have seen in quite some time. This included some of the hugest yams I have seen in my life! Everything appeared rather fresh, as well.
My major complaint with the store would, however, be its awkward layout. Like most grocery stores, there is only one way in and out, but it seems that the merchandise does not follow in the progression that it does at most other stores. For instance, soda and potato chips are toward the beginning of the store, not the end, and the bread sits in one of the middle aisles. The checkout area also seems as though it would get rather congested during busier times of the day, considering its layout and proximity to the aisles. Luckily, I was there during a time it was less busy.
I would recommend this store to anyone in the area who is looking for groceries.
