"For a glam downtown seafood dinner, this is the place. 801 Fish, which also has locations in St. Louis and Denver, emulates the swanky 801 Chophouse vibe, swapping out big steaks for caviar-crowned oysters, shrimp cocktails, Maryland crab cakes, and whole grilled branzino. The lobster fried rice is popular here, too." - Eater Staff

Our first time to 801 and we will back! Our server, Austin, was amazing! He thoroughly explained the food options and wine options. We discussed our needs to stay away from spicy and he was great to guide us. The crab cake, scallops and specialty dessert was beyond our expectations! The atmosphere is warm and inviting. So worth it!

We have been here before and it was great- but not sure what is going on now- portions are smaller and not good. 54 dollars for 3 scallops. 30 dollars for 4 shrimp cocktail. My husband had the salmon and it was literally soup - way too much sauce and rubbery. Also- clean your lights above the table- it’s gross. This place will not last.

I ate at the Minneapolis site 5 times in one week and each meal was excellent. The service was exceptional, the choice of menu items was wide ranging, and the quality of each dish, whether an appetizer, main, or dessert, was superb. I especially enjoyed the Halibut with lentils and chick peas as well as the crab cake and fried calamari and rock shrimp. The monkfish wrapped in prosciutto was exquisite. Highly recommend this restaurant!

Updated: Had a great experience the first time and decided to go back. Biggest mistake of the year! It took 15 minutes for someone to just come to the table to let us know someone would be coming. Then another 30 to get our drinks... more time to order the actual food. The complimentary bread came after other tables were served their food. The soup came without spoons... Water was never refilled...A white couple came in after us, seated immediately, greeted, and order taken. Our bill came out to over $200... For that kind of money & this kind of service, take your money elsewhere. Worst part about this, it wasn't even busy.... Not sure how long this place will be around.

Had an amazing birthday dinner here on a week night. Both the seafood and steak was phenomenal. We had the petite shellfish platter, calamari , Ora King salmon, and new york strip. Everything tasted fresh and the food came out quickly. Our server was also very know knowledgeable about the menu and gave us a free dessert for the birthday celebration! The blueberry cake with sour cream ice cream was also amazing. Couldn’t recommend this place enough for any occasion!

Came here for lunch on the recommendation from my hotel’s bartender (shout out to Vitaly at The Marquette!). Arrived a little after 11am, it was very quiet/empty which was great. Received amazing service from Ashlee. Had a 801 Martini, Cajun Oysters and the blackened Mahi Mahi sandwich, and well were very delicious and are well recommended. My colleague had the Lobster roll and it looked amazing!! Looking forward to coming back! I had dinner at Manny’s Steakhouse, which was very nice, great staff and environment. But 801 fish also has a steakhouse restaurant nearby, which I am looking forward to trying next time.

The fish, oysters, scallops, and dessert are very good. 09/13/24- Had the swordfish, carrots, and NY cheesecake with lemon curd. It was great. If you come to visit make sure to ask for Ali as your server. She is wonderful!

We have been anticipating their opening for a while. We went there for dinner with another couple. The place is absolutely amazing, wide open spaces and very tastefully decorated. We have been to their sister restaurant 801 chop house a few times and have always had a pleasant experience, so we came here with very high expectations. Being right after Christmas, the place wasn't that busy, so we were given a high level of attention, including the GM giving us a tour of the place. The service was very friendly and efficient. As far as the food goes, my wife and another person in our party ordered the Sea Bass, which was very well prepared and perfect. I ordered the Bouillabaisse, which was a little disappointing partly, maybe my fault! I was so excited that they had that on menu that I didn't even read their description! I have an obsession with originality and authenticity of food, especially respecting the name of dishes. As far as I know, Bouillabaissse is a French seafood stew in a seafood and tomato broth fortified with saffron, in their version even though all items were perfectly cooked and tasty was in a simple seafood broth with no hint of tomato base or Saffron! Overall, I still believe they deserve 5 stars, and we will go back, but I would stay away from their Bouillabaisse!

Yelp
I have been to 801 Fish too many times to count since their initial opening. As the sister restaurant to 801 Chophouse, I knew that each experience was going to be spectacular. Sure, there are quite a few seafood restaurants in the Minneapolis area, but 801 Fish takes your dining experience to another level. When you walk in, you are essentially transported to what feels like a luxurious castle under the sea. The decor and color selections scream comfort sea-side elegance, with a touch of simplistic luxury. The three private dining areas give a sort-of "fish bowl" feel. Each design feature was thought through brilliantly! The Service: The 801 Family across all of their restaurants are masters when it comes to service. Whether you are dining at the bar, at a table in the dining room, or in a private dining room, you are getting 5-star service. Each and every member of the staff make it their mission to ensure that you experience is incredible. They are attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. 500000/5 for service. Jase, the General Manager, has cultivated one of the best teams I have come across through all of my culinary journeys. The Food: The 801 Fish menu is a love-letter to seafood lovers. The Executive Chef, Chef Lawrence, puts a secret ingredient into each dish...love. I have eaten my way through a majority of this menu, and have never been disappointed. Not to mention, they have non-fish dishes on the menu for the picky esters in the group (example, the chicken chop). Don't forget to get some fresh oysters for the table while here, or their Pain au Lait (milk bread), or even their Grilled Broccolini as a side, which comes with a delicious layer of provolone fondue. You simply cannot go wrong with this menu, and cannot go wrong choosing this place for a fabulous dinner. Also, they have a great happy hour!

Yelp
Went here for an early dinner before the Billie Eillish concert Sunday night and everything was fabulous! The service was top notch, all the seafood we had was fresh and the drinks were yummy! They stuff their own olives with blue cheese so you know the dirty martinis are amazing! Very fancy vibes, would be great for a celebration!

Yelp
Great food, great service and a beautiful location!! So pretty. The bartender is great with her pours. I needed a nice way to relax and this was perfect. I wish I lived near here lol. Until next time. Perfect tacos and perfect wine.

Yelp
We ate here in celebration of a birthday and it was perfect. The decor is light and colorful. The stained glass art near the bar was beautiful. Loved the giant fish art and glass coral-lIke lighting. We were seated at a booth for private conversation. Very cozy and lovely Our server was wonderful. Never rushed us. Walked us through the menu. His suggestions were right on. We started with the crab cake and shrimp cocktail. Both were delicious and beautifully presented. The cocktail sauce with the shrimp had a kick to it. Very fresh. For my entree, I chose Barramundi. It was served with spinach and white beans. The nice crisp on the outside of the fish combined with the rest of the plate provided a lovely mix of tastes and textures. Very good. All others enjoyed their entrees very much. We shared a side of lobster fried rice but my meal was enough and I didn't try it but all others loved it. The sides are perfect for sharing. We finished with two desserts. The chocolate one was described by our server as 'count chocula-like' and he was right on. The marshmallows and crispy chocolate coating on the mousse was decadent. We also had the praline puff which was huge. Very light and tasty. They offer valet parking but we found street parking right across the street on a Sunday night. It's definitely a higher end restaurant. Our bill for 4 was over $500 but it was an exceptional experience in atmosphere, service, and especially the quality and taste of food. We will definitely be back. Loved it.

Yelp
801 Fish has a great ambiance immediately upon entry with heavy attention to detail evident in the interior finishings. Our evening started with some quality cocktails followed by a mix of oysters. The Garlic Parmesan Grilled Oysters were awesome - great flavor to accompany a classic. The cold oysters were a great value for a Thursday ($2 each), and solid overall but definitely on the smaller side. The Lobster Bisque was maybe a bit above average but as is often the case, there really isn't much meat included. Lastly for starters, the Wagyu Hot Rock was phenomenally good, albeit a bit hard to stomach the price per oz. given their 4 oz. minimum (not indicated anywhere on the menu). For mains, it was the Swordfish and Whole Lobster. Both were high quality, which was flush throughout the meal as nearly everything was good to great. Truly our only gripe was the inattentive service. Often, we were left waiting to have beverages replenished or even to place our initial order. It seemed as if the bartender/waiter role isn't clearly defined and staff was often pulled between both which caused significant delays and gaps where you'd expect there to be none.

Yelp
A lovely restaurant with excellent seafood and fish dishes and stellar service. Definitely a place to go to treat yourself or celebrate a special occasion! I went here with a group for an anniversary dinner. There was not one bad dish. We basically tried one of everything and there were only rave reviews. What stood out to me the most was the frito misto, whole snapper, and caramel ice cream. Others in my group loved the oysters, octopus, crab ravioli, Bouillabaisse, and sea bass. We were informed the pastry chef could do a cake, so we took our chances and were so amazed! Chef Jeremy took carrot cake and almond poppy cake and harmonized them with a luscious cream cheese frosting. Our server was attentive and friendly. She was upbeat and helped create a fun and relaxing atmosphere for us. The inside of the restaurant is gorgeous. The decorations and lighting are unique and fun. Thank you for everyone at 801 Fish for amazing food and amazing service. You made the 50th anniversary dinner a special one for my group!

Yelp
Food 5/5 - I came here middle of the week for the lunch date and had a great meal. The Sesame Chicken Salad was packed full of flavor and very filling. The Lemon Cheesecake was just the right size for a mid day sweet tooth. Excited to go back and try other menu items Service / Ambiance 5/5- The ambiance in the inside is beautiful and very top notch for a seafood restaurant. Our server Sam was wonderful and friendly. Food came out within a timely manner. Will definitely be returning.

Yelp
Ambiance and decor 10/10 Service 10/10 Now on to what I ate: Grilled oysters 8/10- could of use more flavor but I loved the crispy chorizo Mussels 9/10- loved the curry broth Lobster bisque 10/10- SO MUCH flavor and the croutons were crisp and garlicky Whole snapper 7/10- lacked flavor but cooked to perfection We went on NYE and they were out of quite a few items so I would definitely like to return when it's not as busy. There was a mishap with the waiter and he offered us free food and wine to make up for it, great service always gets me!

Michelle Y.

Yelp
They have valet parking for $15 or else metered street parking. Once you walk in you're welcome with a great ambiance and a display of fresh seafood at the bar. Went there for a birthday celebration on a Wednesday evening and it was a little busy but our waitress was always there when needed. Everything on the menu was delicious which I expected since the seafood is fresh! They do have a few steak options for those that don't eat seafood! I would go back again and try other dishes. The red snapper was so big it could easily feed 3 people!

Jeff P.

Yelp
So far it's been pretty amazing New England 100% cream chowder is one of the best things I've ever tasted. Definitely going get that again! The king crab ravioli is outstanding in a subtle and understated way. Delicious Swordfish was a large size portion and paired well with fresh grilled baguette bread. This fish was more than adequate...pretty good, but I wish I had tried something different. I think I was most satisfied with the crunchy crisp outside texture. I think it grew on me as I worked my way to the more crispy edges at the tip of the cut. The crew in the kitchen are fun and helpful. The servers are spunky, real, humble and proficient. They work well together as a team. Not snobby French waiters here! All in all, I really can't wait to come back and try out some more delicious items on their expansive menu. Good dining!

Kevin T.

Yelp
What a gem this place is. Just walking in from the street warrants a "wow" factor to the expansive room, the beautiful murals and the beautiful centerpiece: the amazing bar area pinnacled with its unique stained glass Obviously, you're here for seafood...and you came to the right place. I ajways enjoy the grilled specials with swordfish being my favorite. Happy Hour is respectable and worth a visit on that alone. Not just beer, cocktails and wine on specials, but a nice selection of good items from mussels, to oysters to Mahi tacos. Take a seat at the bar for a lovely view and enjoy.

Cecilia H.

Yelp
The best salmon I ever ate! My second favorite item was the grilled octopus, it was not chewy and melts in your mouth! Our server was very friendly and attentive! Couldn't remember what kind of oysters we had but they were very fresh and delicious! Definitely coming back!

Charlie P.

Yelp
Great meal! Lots of variety. Server was friendly and knowledgeable. It's beautiful inside with under the sea inspired decor. Lots of seating and private seating if needed.

Kate C.

Yelp
We stopped here for lunch when we were in Minnesota and the space is beautiful. Every entree and appetizer is brought out on a cart. Definitely white glove service and solid seafood.

Amatullah B.

Yelp
I would like to start by saying I was tricked into getting dinner at 801. I really wanted to go to owamni and agreed to "stop by" 801 to say hi to some of our fellow conference attendees. When we walked in, it became clear this was not really the drop in drop out kind of place. The staff was quick to try to accommodate our growing party, pushing tables together rather efficiently. I decided to make the best of it and ordered two of my favorite foods, octopus and oysters. I had recently been to NOLA and so, decided to get the Parmesan oysters. The octopus was delicious. I enjoyed it very bit even though it was a little salty. I ended up drinking a lot of water after eating it and one of my dinner companions also noted her food was very salty. The oysters were horrible. I could only eat one before I had to give up. Someone else in my group got the fried bronzino which was presented beautifully and was delicious. 5 stars to the staff.

Tim R.

Yelp
Yeah, I had such high hopes for this place. The Clam Chowder had a over-powering bacon flavor to it. The mussels were good but the sauce/broth served with them had a very vague and generic flavor. I thought it was pumpkin but it turned out to be thai coconut curry. The restaurant is attractive and the service is excellent.

E. Y. C.

Yelp
The only restaurant we were able to find a seat at 6:30pm that wasn't full of conference attendees, likely because of the price point although they do offer a $50 three course prix fixe Sunday menu that's very reasonable which TK ordered. Chose clam chowder, swordfish, creme brulee and enjoyed it. I got the pancetta wrapped monkfish with chantarelle ($38) which was excellent, the pancetta added a nice crispy crust to the monkfish which was tender and mild tasting. I've only had ankimo and maeuntang, so it was interesting to eat the actual fish as a main. The server said it's a new addition to the menu. I also got the hamachi crudo ($20) as an appetizer, it was sliced more like sashimi and decent although not as good as the monkfish. Server was friendly and attentive, kindly split the bill based on what we ordered. Ambience is "blue-lighting classy modern seafood restaurant."

Anna S.

Yelp
We were really excited to try this out hoping it would be like Oceanaire was 15 years ago based on the reviews, however found it only ok for the price point. We went on a Saturday at 6:30 with plenty of open tables. Got seated and the server was nice, but realized she was a bartender as when it got busier (around 7) it appears the real servers came and worked other tables and she got distracted making drinks and less attention for us. I don't fault her if her primary job is a bartender, but we didn't get asked if we wanted a second drink and pretty sure our main was forgotten for a while as the table next to ours (who was sat quite a bit later) got their food well before us. While not impressed but the service the real reason for the rating is the food. We got oysters, which were good. I got the lobster bisque, which was my favorite dish, but nothing amazing. I had the swordfish and was disappointed based on other reviews. It was ok in flavor and actually dry. Again, the food wasn't bad, but for the price, I expected more. It is a pretty spot with nice decor. Lots of potential- just didn't deliver on food IMO

Adam B.

Yelp
The experience was top notch. The service was wonderful and the entire experience felt effortless. Portion sizes were perfect, we ended up sharing everything and I'd highly recommend it if you're looking to try a bit of everything. I would highly recommend the swordfish. It was everyone's favorite.

Michelle O.

Yelp
This is the place for seafood in downtown Minneapolis! Absolute perfection. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. One of my companions said it was likely the best clam chowder he ever had. The clams are grilled to order before being added to the chowder. The flavor is truly remarkable. Two of us shared the gem lettuce salad with green goddess dressing. It is a large salad! More than enough for two to share. Quite tasty too. I always need to reach for salt on my salad. Not this time. We then had grilled octopus. It is par cooked then finished on the grill. Tender with a great smoky flavor. The accompanying cous cous and sauces were also spot on. As an added treat, we were brought some Lobster Bisque to try. The bisque is a rival to the clam chowder on being the best ever. Creamy and full of freshly grilled lobster claw and knuckle meat. I may need to come back just for the bisque! But wait, the entrees... The swordfish was beautiful and off the charts delicious. However, the bouillabaisse was the star! Clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops and lobster in a perfectly seasoned broth. It just doesn't get better. The meal ended with a sweet potato slab pie and a Meyer Lemon Cheesecake along with some warm chocolate chip cookies and a peanut butter cookie. All were crazy good. Service was stellar as well. This was the first weekend of service and I can assume it will only get better with time. It's already pretty close to perfect. The space is gorgeous too. And, for the ladies, the restroom is not like any other. They have dental floss picks, mouthwash, hairspray, hand lotion, and feminine products. Fantastic!

Howard L.

Yelp
Amazing fresh seafood and service. Sam the bartender is awesome. Let them guide you through the menu. Highly recommend!!

Agnieszka G.

Yelp
Fantastic food. Service was impeccable. The decorations were great. The waiter and barkeep were extremely nice and accommodating.

Fred S.

Yelp
We were in Minneapolis for the 40th Anniversary of Purple Rain and grabbed dinner at 801 before heading to First Avenue. The food was fantastic, our server was very knowledgeable and shared some great stories with us. All of the recommendations were excellent including cocktails. We will definitely be back next time we're in town.

Ashley A.

Yelp
We were lucky enough to dine in their private dining space (even though it's not really private - floor to ceiling glass) it was beautiful! The service was amazing. They ran out of a light beer my friends mom ordered and one of the servers ran to 801 Chop to get more! Above and Beyond!! I ordered the prawn carbonara pasta, and my bf had the NY Strip. Can't remember the rest of the table got for entrees, but we got a seafood tower, shrimp ceviche and the shrimp and shishito tempura appetizers. Legit one of the best cocktail sauces I've ever tasted and the best bite of king crab I've ever had!! My only complaint is that the sides are pretty limited but that's just personal preference so I'd hate to take a star away for that reason. Lobster fried rice was phenomenal, but the potatoes were just OK ‍. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We will be back for sure!!

Jim M.

Yelp
My wife and I tried this restaurant last night. The food was absolutely outstanding. Every single thing we ordered, which was quite a bit, was perfect and excellent. We really love the ambience. The service was a little bit lacking, but definitely not a problem. It's pretty expensive, but not more than you would expect for a fine dining experience. Overall, five stars!

Chris D.

Yelp
Awesome food! I'm usually not a big seafood eater but all the food I tried was excellent. We had the grilled octopus as an appetizer. The grill flavor made the octopus excellent. For the entree I had the swordfish and a side of the lobster rice. I usually am deterred from seafood due to the "fishy" taste but the swordfish didn't have any of that weird taste. Finally, got some pineapple upside down cake which was also excellent. Was pretty empty for a Friday night but not sure why as this was the best seafood I've had. I liked the layout of the restaurant and the bar area was pretty cool. The parking was standard valet service or parking in a parking garage and walking vibe.

Mike Y.

Yelp
Very nice ambiance. Nicely decorated and obviously brand new. Service was excellent as you would expect. The food was also excellent.

Simmy ..

Yelp
Making a reservation was easy, as was the welcoming - we were immediately brought to a table after arriving 8 minutes early to our reservation. Our server, Sage, was efficient and attentive. As industry ourselves, we don't ask for much and yet all needs were met. The table behind us, as well as the sudden wedding party, definitely dampened the mood, but Jase and Sage checked in again prior to us leaving and finished the service on a good note. Will be back and would recommend the grilled oysters(feature) the shrimp ceviche, and the seabass.

Keri G.

Yelp
Fun ambiance. Excellent staff from maitre' d to bartending to dinner, thank you Sage. Had a WONDERFUL conversation with chef Lawrence and got some tips. We've struggled with swordfish at other places but this was fabulous, juicy, tender and flavorful. Loved the branzini, especially the presentation. Don't normally do food pictures but really you have to see it.

Kathy T.

Yelp
I've been here 4x now since they've opened. The only thing that kept me coming back after the second time was Jose - the manager. Jose is always nice, welcoming, and made sure we were happy with our service/food. However, after deciding to choose this restaurant to celebrate a friend's birthday last night none of us would be returning to dine here any time soon. We had a table of 6 and the restaurant was only 25% occupied through the night yet the food took extremely long that we were full after our grand tower platter and two appetizers. (This has happened in the past where my husband and I would wait about an hour between appetizer and our entree.) Staffs were standing around chatting and forgot to bring us things we requested such as spoons or extra bowls for us to share our soups. When our lobster fried rice came out undercooked and we let our waitress know, she rolled her eyes at us as she took it back and walked away. Even our cocktails and a few shots in the end of the night took forever when there's literally only a few people left at the bar and maybe 2 other tables still seated. So my friend decided to go up to the bar to order the drinks instead. The restaurant closes at 10 but by 9:30 you can tell the staffs were getting impatient. She brought us our bill without offering our friend a complimentary birthday dessert while 20% gratuity was already automatically added to our bill. We asked the bill to be split into 2 cards, she came back with two receipts but only 1 card. She was certain that she returned the 2 cards and suggested it may have been dropped or my friend has left it at the bar then continue to proceed to the other table - instead of offering to go double check. After 10 mins of us 6 girls searching the table/our purses she came back with the card. "Here it is, it was still in the card reader. It's the end of the night, you know how it is" was all we got. Not one apology.

Anthony M.

Yelp
Got off to a rocky start with one bartender, but the other staff members were amazing!!! We especially loved the manager and the sous chef. The raw oyster special is a gem, and the ceviche is scrumptious. They also have some fantastic cocktails!!! Cool spot to hang out after a game, or plan for a special event.

Sam H.

Yelp
Great service. Great food. Amazing ambiance. Good for date night or something special to celebrate at

Brent W.

Yelp
Went in on a quiet night, think it was Monday. The bartender/server was amazing. Tried caviar for 1st x, seemed reasonable priced and ate a bunch of oysters. Liked all the presentations and the fact that it's a very high end resturant, yet they still serve saltines w/oysters.

Karla W.

Yelp
Food and service were very good, but $50 for a piece of fish and a couple of potato slices that I ate, slowly, in 10 minutes? Go if the boss is paying for it.

Dane S.

Yelp
Incredible top to bottom. The ambiance is fun, the service is world-class and the food is nothing short of amazing. Our server, Chadwick, knew exactly which wines to pair with what we ordered and also suggested an incredible entree - Branzino, deboned table side. Overall, a certainly a place I'll be back to.

Karen C.

Yelp
I love this place..thank you Sage our hostess..the food was devine/atmosphere was on point..please keep doing what you do!

Angela O.

Yelp
Everyone in our group enjoyed their meal and the service was excellent. I had the crab ravioli and we shared a seafood tower. Highly recommend stopping here!

Jo G.

Yelp
Beautiful interior, wait staff lovely. Food was good. Fried calamari excellent and light, cioppino was average better if tomato based, crab ravioli marginal with a bland white pasty sauce. Romantic but food could be better.
