Don't ask me why but I've had an yearning to visit Deal in Kent for sometime now, so my wife, as a surprise, booked us in for lunch at this restaurant to create the need to visit Deal.
From the outside, the restaurant's name doesn't leap out at you, but the access is down the side of the building off Market Street, where you find a small door that again fails to indicate where it leads to and appears to be a front door to an upstairs flat. On entering, the decor is quite plain, almost bland, but it is what one would expect to see from an establishment located overlooking a coastal area and appears to reflect its external weather beaten look. however, the seating is quite comfortable and reasonably roomy, especially for someone as tall as I am.
The lunch menu keeps to a small but interesting choice and I understand that it changes on a daily/regular basis, based on the seasons and availability of fresh ingredients. On our visit we chose the lightly curried cauliflower soup, followed by gammon steak, eggs and proper big chips, slow cooked beef (Leg) with bubble & squeak and savoy cabbage, for dessert I opted for their adaptation of tiramisu. we couldn't find fault with the food at all, not that we were looking for it.
There statement on their website is: 'Fine food without the fuss' and this does seem to sum them up, no hustle and bustle, no in your face "is everything okay sir" approach, but they are attentive when you need them.
Pretty good value to 3 courses for £15.50 plus drinks, well worth a visit if you find your self in Deal.
NB: I still don't know why I wanted to go to Deal!
