82 Kimbap - Review - Loop - Chicago - The Infatuation

"After months of chronicling the process of starting a kimbap restaurant from scratch, the social media-savvy owners of 82 Kimbap have finally opened their Korean food stall in The Loop's Sterling Food Hall. Expect a short menu of six kimbap varieties like tuna, spam, and spicy pork. Plus, desserts like misugaru cake fromDaeji Dough Company." - John Ringor

This was hands down the best kimbap I’ve ever had. I got the pork, beef, and tuna, and was immediately surprised by the high quality arrangement/wrapping of the kimbap. Each slice held together perfectly. The sauce and radishes on the side were a great touch too. 10/10 would recommend stopping by here and trying it out!

I’ve tried a lot of different kimbaps that are sold in korean convenient stores, grocery stores, and restaurants. After trying out 82 kimbap today, I can say that this place has the best kimbap in Chicago! Me and my family ordered the beef bulgogi, spicy pork, spam, and tuna with all 3 sauces. They all paired perfectly well, but my favorite combination was the spicy pork with perilla vinaigrette!! I noticed they use a lot of high quality ingredients in their kimbap. It is full but not too much to the point the kimbap falls apart. It keeps a perfect round shape. The meat and vegetable is perfectly seasoned, and I love how they use black/purple rice (흑미) for their base which has a more deeper flavor than regular sushi rice. The taste is amazing!! Overall, highly recommend to anybody who is willing to try high quality Korean food and who are kimbap lovers!!!

Finally a place to get tasty kimbab downtown! Location is very strategic, staff is friendly, and the kimbab-WOW! Ordered the bulgogi, spicy pork, tofu, and the two drinks! The kimbab is wrapped extremely well (very tight, so it doesn’t fall apart), is also generously filled with protein, and the vegetables are fresh and crunchy! I think the price is well worth it for the quality, taste, and portion! Would 100% recommend for anyone looking for a nice lunch in the area! I also recommend ordering beforehand (check their IG) so getting your kimbab is quick and easy! Final note: THE PERILLA SAUCE IS SO GOOD 1000000% recommend with the bulgogi and spicy pork kimbabs!

Got the spicy pork and tuna kimbaps with perilla vinaigrette and yuzu aioli sauces, as well as the Korean horchata. Everything was so good and highly recommend!! ♥️♥️ can’t wait to try all their flavors!

I’m so excited that there is Korean food at the Sterling Food Hall. 82 Kimbap has quick service and the staff is very friendly. I enjoyed eating the beef and spam kimbap. Between the different sauces I prefer the yuzu sauce. Next time I’ll have to try their drinks. They sell out quick so make sure you get there early to try their kimbap.

We tried the spicy pork and bulgogi kimbap, and both were so delicious! It tasted just as authentic as eating in Korea. The complimentary 오뎅 국물 was amazing, and the 깻잎 sauce paired perfectly with the bulgogi kimbap. The employees were so kind, and the food quality was great for the price. I would definitely come again!

If you’re craving authentic Korean flavors or just want something tasty and satisfying, 82 Kimbap is definitely worth a visit. The food is fresh, flavorful, and beautifully made. Their kimbap are packed perfectly with just the right balance of rice, fillings, and seasoning. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients. The soup and pear juice were also great additions to the meal.

Google
One of the most flavorful kimbap rolls I’ve had, and they throw in a free sauce. The horchata was refreshing and a great mix of Korean/Mexican flavors! Everyone was very friendly.

Yelp
Came here on a Thursday for lunch and placed a pickup order. Pickup was pretty seamless even though they were busy, which I appreciated. The food - this is THE BEST kimbap in the city!! It scratched every itch and I'm so excited to have a place like this near my work! I will be back at least weekly! The filling is bountiful with little rice - this is actually how kimbap looks when you get it in Korea. The price point is very reasonable for both the amount of food and the quality of it - $10-13! The only piece of feedback I have is one of the rolls I ordered I marked as vegan and it still had egg in it so my coworker couldn't eat it :(. Probably just early growing pains. Overall I was very very impressed with 82 Kimbap and am ready to be a regular!

Yelp
4.7/5 Food: We tried beef bulgogi, spam, and cheese. All great, go with bulgogi if it's your first time. Good amount of meat and egg. The odeng is soo good too. Sauce did not taste like yuzu. Overall such a great price, and as a Korean i am so glad we have Kimbap in the loop now. 5/5 Service: The girl working was friendly and everyone working there looked like they actually wanted to be there. They instantly gave us our food. 5/5 Ambiance: I love ambiance at sterling hall. Their branding is cute too.

Yelp
Finally some good Korean food downtown! As someone who lived in LA near Ktown, I have sorely been missing the Korean food scene in Chicago, but now I have a place to fulfill my kimbap cravings. Kimbap is a Korean lunch staple so it's perfect that they're in a food hall downtown. I got the beef bulgogi kimbap which is a classic but 82 kimbap's take is definitely more modern and premium. They use purple rice, instead of white; the rice to filling ratio leans more heavily on filling (which I love!), and they give you a dipping sauce (which is definitely not traditional, but it's fun). The pickled radish side is also surprisingly really good. While it's not a health food, the mix of protein, veggies and carbs make it a healthy option for lunch. It's a great addition to the downtown scene. Will be back for more!

Yelp
Wanted to try out this place after seeing a bunch of TikTok's of 82 Kimbap. I do like the concept and it's a good meal to grab if I'm not feeling something too heavy. The rice is so thin and they really pack it. If I'm in the office, this is the perfect meal to eat. However, I was shocked that my kimbap was almost $17. Maybe it's because I grew up eating a lot of kimbap near me that was less than $10. The concept is good but at least you get a sauce (which I wouldn't typically eat with kimbap) and some broth to wash down the kimbap.

Yelp
One time, I was in a restaurant that touts itself as Japanese-Mexican fusion. If you had asked me my favorite kinds of food, Japanese and Mexican would be up there. So I was dying to stop in. I thought they'd have Japanese-inspired tacos and Mexican-inspired sushi. Guess what? No dice. The sushi was regular. The tacos were regular. Food wasn't bad, but there was nothing fusion about it, just a matter of having both under one roof. Now, you know how on Chopped dishes are judged not only by their taste but also on their creativity? This is what makes 82 Kimbap really shine. If I am to be 100% honest, the food didn't blow my mind. It was good, don't get me wrong, but on its own, nothing worth writing home about. It was the creativity that truly set it apart. The dish was like a sushi roll, but it was filled with Korean ingredients. Having ordered a pork bulgogi, it had the aforementioned protein, some sweet egg, some purple rice, and some veggies. The recommended sauce was also tasty, and while I don't remember the name, I can tell you it was green and nothing like soy sauce, not even close. With that said, I did find the fillings flavorful and well-balanced. Everything played together nicely. They also offered a free cup of their soup, which had just the right amount of funk to be unusual, but still be pleasant. I can especially see myself getting this on a cold Chicago winter's day. Finally, I felt that their prices were reasonable for a respectable-sized portion, and the service here was immensely friendly and very fast. Final verdict: 82 Kimbap shines in the fact that they do fusion right - something very few places can accomplish. If you are a fan of Japanese or Korean food, or ideally both, or maybe you just love interesting and unusual dishes that aren't way out there, you are doing yourself a disservice if you don't stop by. Edit to add: Someone let me know that Kimbap is a Korean dish, and therefore this place is not Korean/Japanese fusion. I apologize for my ignorance.

Yelp
I was finally able to try authentic Korean Kimbap and this did not disappoint! The Beef Bulgogi Kimbap is really fresh and has the right crunch and texture. The beef wasn't overcooked or bland! Literally each ingredient wrapped in this role just compliments each other. The side of pickled radish had the best crunch, not really pungent (which is a plus imo) and the vinaigrette made the Kimbap 10x better.Service was quick and the employees were nice and polite. With the location and ingredients, the price is totally worth it. I recommend getting a combo, and specifically the pear-apple juice; really refreshing!

Yelp
Kimbap is fresh and tasty. I had the bulgogi and really enjoyed it. Creamy gojchuang (sp?) was delish. Do not skip the seafood broth on the side (free!). Compliments the roll in a delightful way. Extremely fast service. Inside Sterling Food Hall which has pretty good vibes.

Yelp
Service was so fast and friendly. Had the tuna and spicy pork kimbap and they were delicious. 10/10 will definitely go and try the others
