Cocina Barelas - Review - South Park - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Cocina Barelas is a New Mexico-style pop-up most often found operating inside South Park wine bar Good Voyage. Depending on the day, they serve quesotacos with crispy oaxaca cheese shells, green chile stew, and particularly delicious breakfast burritos. The breakfast burritos are packed with flavor, easy to eat on the walk back to the car, and just the right size to carry with an iced coffee in hand. They have perfectly seasoned eggs, carne adovada that drips through the seams of the tortilla requiring more than a few napkins, and green chiles that add a kick. To get one of these, you’ll need to closely follow their Instagram for updates, and then rush over." - Kayla Sager-Riley

Yelp
I love when food trucks roll up outside the office. Momo's Kebab was in the parking lot so I headed down to get me some lunch. I ordered the chicken gyros sandwich, which was so beautiful in the container. The taste did not disappoint either. So much flavor and obviously fresh ingredients. The portion was huge, honestly. The service was excellent. The employees were friendly and food came out quickly. It's always a good sign when a long line forms outside the truck but the orders still come out quick.

Jimmy J.

Yelp
Beef and lamb gyros sandwich. Came straight out of the truck not even lukewarm. Low meat to vegetable ratio.

Yelp
The picture of the beef lamb gyro salad I ordered is twice as big as the one I received. And I was charged full price. See picture on their food truck website and compare to picture of what I received. When I said this not the picture that is on the truck, I was told it was the salad I ordered. When I said it is half as big, told the same thing. If they're going to charge me full price for a salad that is half the size they advertise, they should have pics of what you are going to get.

Yelp
This food, at least what I got was amazing! I ordered from door dash so I can't speak on the service or location. But the food is absolutely everything! I got the falafel sandwich and garli

Wang L.

Yelp
The taste of meat is good But the nann(?) is cold 14.3 for this plate. Ok to have a try.

Yelp
The best shawarma, gyros in the city. Authentic middle eastern food -- i'd eat there daily if I could...
google avatar

Brooke B.

Yelp
I have to do this because of my experience today. After a DoorDash order was pushed back twice in time, I get a call From my dasher saying the owner gave away our food to another dasher. I asked him to make it again and send it with the dasher and he outright refused. His fault. Not ours and he refused to make it again. The food here is so good, but damn...be better to your customers. You're already charging me $14 for a gyro. It's the least you can do.

Yelp
Tasty food and quick service make MoMo's a go to whenever I'm not looking to cook anything. I highly recommend a visit!

Yelp
I have eaten here during the pandemic, and thought it was very good. The twice I have been in the last couple of months was very disappointing. The chicken is dry and bland. I also find the pre-programmed tipping set at 20, 25, 30 and 35% absolutely offensive. This is for a walk up food truck, with no interior space, no parking spaces and no shelter if it is raining. Unfortunately, when small businesses expand from their original location (to 4 trucks and a brick and mortar in this case) frequently the quality falls drastically.

Yelp
We visited when this truck came to our neighborhood. Service was great, food on point, and seriously some of the best hummus I've ever had!

Yelp
Great guys! Ahmed is very friendly and nice. the food is great and the Arabic songs in the background it's like living the experience at its finest! Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Ordered Chicken Shawarma plate- Made my order fresh and hot when I arrived for pickup, only waiting a few minutes. It was very good, I just wish I knew there was a fair amount of garlic aioli/mayo action drizzled on top of all the chicken and rice. It was good, i prefer less saucy and less fatty sauces, with that said I could only eat half of the plate if that. Recommend asking for drizzle on the side :)

Yelp
Super friendly staff and delicious fresh gyros and shwarma! We got a small side of the falafel and it was crispy on the outside and perfectly seasoned. We liked our lunch so much that we even got an order to-go for dinner. Looking forward to our next visit.

Yelp
Had the food truck parked at Ounces. These Greek fries are BOMB. So so so good. Covered in feta and garlic sauce. Amazing. Service was quick and nice. Fantastic food.

Yelp
I used to love MoMo's but they fell off my radar as of recently. I used to be able to place orders over the phone but now they only accept online orders. Both of my online orders were wrong. I would of thought that with this new system, orders would be more accurate. Their food used to be made with love but now the chicken is dry and it's almost impossible to speak to anyone when they get your order wrong which has happened multiple times. Also feels like the portions are much smaller. If they are cutting down on costs, that makes sense but if a firm is selling food, they should open a line of communication for customers to provide feedback of their business. How can they thrive without a form of communication between them and their consumers?

Yelp
This was one of the first takeout meals I got during quarantine and I've ordered at least 5 times since then. I order the chicken rice plate each time but my fiancé has tried each of the sandwiches and has loved everything. Chicken is moist, they give you a lot of hummus, and the veggies in the salad are marinated... therefore so much better than normal salad freebies you get. The best part is everything is flavorful. I usually add sauce/salt to my meals but this one is perfect to me as-is. My favorite Mediterranean takeout was in Cap Hill but Momo's has officially topped it. Food is also packaged well. I'd just be careful about the underneath of the packaging since they give you a few good drizzles of oil and it can leak if you don't eat it right away. Everything has been consistent each time and food is quick to come out too. Definitely recommend!

Maggie L.

Yelp
We tried the chicken shawarma (chicken is not smokey, tasted more like a mushy chicken caesar wrap) and gyro rice plate. Falafel is probably my favorite. Food is mediocre.

Mariah A.

Yelp
This used to be one of my favorite spots to eat. The quality has went down. I ordered a chicken shawarma rice plate and there was barley any chicken. Extremely dry like it was from the day before. Small portions. Very disappointed since I spent over 40 from Uber eats to be delivered this. Insane

David S.

Yelp
PLEASE READ! Are you kidding me? $20 for this chicken shawarma salad? This is a joke. DO NOT waste your money here for 1 diced tomato, iceberg lettuce, and some canned chicken! Shameful. They did reimburse me after I complained...so there is that.

Yelp
Every time I have walked by in the last two months they have been closed. Not sure why. I'm only around here a few days a month. They are also a little Pricy, $15 for a plate. They have an easy to read menu, they are nice and friendly, they are quick and their food is great!!! There were two guys in the cart, one is wearing a mask and one is not. Overall I will eat there again if I can catch them opened. The wonderful food will drag me back.

Yelp
Not the same restaurant, food has changed. I got a beef kebob sandwich. The sandwiches before were a proper beef kebob, chunks of beef cooked on a skewer grilled over charcoal. I could smell it when walking up to get my order. Delicious. This time it was two cheap hamburger patties folded up in pita bread. What saved it from one or two stars was that I still ate it, it was properly flavored and seasoned, had decent fixings like a kebob shop should have. It was a tasty hamburger sandwich. Just not what I was expecting, and not something I necessarily wanted. Similar situation with the humus. It was fine, humus like you get from other places, but it wasn't something special. Everything here was fine, I ate all my food, the service was all right. If I'm hungry and nearby I might get a gyro or falafel because it's decent food. It's not 5 stars though, not something I'd get excited about or look forward to. It's possible the business changed hands and the new owners had to cut corners to make ends meet. That's okay, I hope they succeed because I like small business food stands but it's too bad. It was great to have very good kebob stand in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Tried the kebab and shawarma sandwiches with fries. The shawarma sandwich was okay but felt more like a big rolled taco. The seasoning of the chicken was pretty good but felt like pieces of chicken not shawarma, which is thin sliced chicken. The kebab sandwich was more like a pita wrap that was full of lettuce drenched in tarna sauce with a skinny piece of chicken in the center. The chicken inside wasn't even kebabs it was more like chicken lule was not seasoned very well and was not worth the price I paid. The fries were okay and the service at the window was also okay. I ended up going to the location because when I tried to order online there were no descriptions of what's inside the wraps/plates and when I tried to call a machine directs you to the site to order online. Needless to say I won't be returning and will continue my hunt for good Mediterranean food in Seattle. I give 2 stars because my husband did enjoy his shawarma sandwich. This is also an outside location so if it's raining hard try to park close by so you can wait in your car for your food to be done.

Yelp
This is a little food truck, typically stationed along the stretch in Des Moines. I took some food to go down to the Quarter Deck, and found it enjoyable. Pros? Tasty seasoning on the meat Quite a few menu options Reasonable portions Seem to be open regularly Cons? Serving of sauces for the pita bread was small Staff was slow to acknowledge us/ let us know our food was ready

Yelp
I'd seen great preliminary reviews of this food truck, and I am a total sucker for Mediterranean food, so I was really excited to give Momo's Kebab a try. While I think there are a couple minor tweaks they could make to improve, I'm overall quite impressed with this food truck. The menu is pretty simple: you have the option of chicken shawarma, gyro meat, beef*, and vegan falafel in one of three forms: plate, sandwich, or salad. We ordered one each of the beef plate and chicken shawarma plate. The reason for the asterisk next to beef above is, midway through their making of our food, we learned that it's beef AND lamb and not just beef! This is kind of a critical distinction they should make on their menu board since not everyone likes lamb. Case in point was my mom who loathes lamb. They had no trouble re-making her meal to be a chicken shawarma plate after the discovery of the lamb-in-the-beef was discovered, which was very appreciated. While they were cooking the food, they even gave us a sample of one of their falafel and garlic sauce for dipping. Holy cow, this was easily the best falafel I'd ever had. It was SO crispy on the outside, but soft, moist, and and super fluffy on the inside. It was extremely well-seasoned with warm, delicious Mediterranean spices. And the garlic sauce was pure heaven. Easily beats every other garlic sauce in the area that I've tried. I'm not vegan, but I'd absolutely go back just for this dang falafel. When the food was ready they generously threw in a couple chocolate rolls too. Their customer service was impeccable. So, the verdict on the food we got to go. It was quite good. The rice was flavorful and again, the garlic sauce is simply to die for. Their pita and homemade hummus (!!!) is very delicious too. The chicken, however, was on the dry side. It was well-seasoned, just overcooked. Most of the other Mediterranean places I've tried in the area use thigh meat for their chicken shawarma, and I think using thigh meat or at least cutting the chicken breast into larger pieces would go a long way here. Finally, the chocolate rolls. They were so delicious! Think baklava but rolled up and drizzled with chocolate. Really a lovely way to end the meal. Overall, Momo's Kebab is a great food truck. You can't go wrong with their falafel. I think with the tweaks I mentioned, this would be my go-to place for chicken shawarma too.

Yelp
We ordered from Momo's through delivery apps frequently over the past couple of years. We really enjoyed their food, especially the chicken shawarma. Then they weren't available for awhile. We were excited to see they're open again and tonight we ordered shawarma and gyros plates and Greek fries. The gyros is the worst I've ever tasted, the side salads are tiny, and the fries are mealy. The shawarma is OK but not as good as it used to be. It's sad to see the food quality deteriorate so much.
google avatar

Marelle H.

Yelp
I ordered from UberEats. Food arrived ahead of schedule and nice and hot. Greek fries were even still crispy. Food tasted pretty good too, though the portion of fries was super small considering the fries were $8! Chicken shawarma sandwich was pretty decent... not mind blowing. What gave this place 1 star is the HORRIFIC food poisoning! Woke up at 3am puking my guts out! I definitely won't be back.

Yelp
Probably my favorite food truck in South Park. The food is fresh, delicious and great value for the price. My favorite dish is the Beef Kabab Plate. It's super savory and fulfilling. The rice and hummus that comes with this plate is out of this world. I like to add a side of hot fresh French fries as well to top off the meal. Highly recommend grabbing a rice plate to go for lunch or dinner. I always find it very convenient and satisfying. Everyone single person I have brought to this food truck has enjoyed their meal. Check them out!

Shipra B.

Yelp
Can we give it up for the amazing local food joints South Park has? Parked right in the corner of Cloverdale and 14th, they serve hot and fresh Mediterranean food. Tried the chicken shawarma rice plate. The chicken was tender and moist and the fries were perfectly seasoned. Even the rice deserves a special mention. It was damn good.
google avatar

Lailah K.

Yelp
Amazing food!! The chicken and beef plates and beef kabab sandwich were fantastic and full of flavor! And OMG the falafel was to die for. I am very picky with falafel and will only eat it in Palestine, but with them it's a must have. If you want Mediterranean food MoMo's Kebab is the place to go. Best place in Washington!

Gregory M.

Yelp
I've eaten at this place 3 times and each time they forget something. First time I ordered 2 chicken swarma plates - they completely gave me the wrong order after waiting 45 mins. Second time ordered the chicken swarma plate again and the portions were laughable. Barely any hummus, a "salad " that was essentially 2 slices of cucumbers and 3 lettuce pieces. Third time I Ordered the chicken swarma plate and they forgot the rice and hummus. Never again. This place is a complete rip off .

Yelp
Best food truck fare south of Seattle, and easily top of the list for the area in general. The menu is streamlined and simple - shawarma, falafel and kebab selections with the options to make each into a sandwich, salad or rice plate. The flavor and quality is the best we have found since leaving the NY/NJ area and the service is great. Thank you!

Yelp
I was in town and someone recommended this spot. I am so glad I went , ordered the Beef kebab sandwich and honestly, I wasn't blown away! Every bite was heavenly and I regret not ordering more! I'll be back next week to try more stuff! Keep up the good work and hopefully you can branch out and bring the yummy food to Portland .

Yelp
The rice is so good, the meat is delectable, the sauces are perfection. Honestly you can't go wrong with anything on this menu. The lamb is stellar, the chicken is so flavorful, and I'm sure anything else on the menu would be just as good. Seriously this Greek food is just perfect delivery/takeout, and I'm sure it would be even better fresh if it's this good after waiting a bit.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious, wonderful staff! They are quick and you can tell they're clean. I got the chicken rice plate and their Greek fries.

Yelp
Okay, so My co worker James and I went here. It was the best experience and worth the wait time!! The owners who work here are on point everything fresh. "Best food-truck since the advent of the Motor Vehicle" - quote from James Customer service is astonishing they literally brought our food to us very caring. Wow!!!! My first review on Yelp and is amazing best Egyptian food in the whole world! Get the Gyro

Yelp
We've had the chicken swarma, beef kabab, and gyro plate. All of the food is super flavorful and delicious. We frequent the Des Moines location and the customer service is always great.

Yelp
The falafel was super good. The Greek fries were perfect. Fast and friendly service. Quickly recommended to my friends on our group chat.

Yelp
I have been here three times since they opened up off of Oaksdale. I have had the been schwarma rice place and the gyros rice plate twice. The portions are great. The salad is fresh, just wish there was a little bit more of that. The hummus and pita are great additions. I usually have leftovers even though I try to eat it all. Highly recommend. Will have to try the food truck in Des Moines.

Yelp
Hands down one of the best food trucks in town! We finally tried Momo's last week, we loved it so much we went back two days later. Very flavorful dishes each with their distinct tastes, and generous portions! (The garlic sauce is a must!). Also, the guys that run it are so friendly and accommodating. We are definitely return customers.

Yelp
HOLYYYYYYY SMOKES. Coming out of my Yelp hiatus just for this one. Our regular gyro spot was closed so we decided to try Momo's. We were super hesitant at first because there were no reviews here buuuuuut oh my gosh am I glad we ordered it. If you are looking for an explosion of flavor and/or a Greek spot that will 10/10 beat yours- try Momo's. We ordered a shawarma plate, lamb gyro sandwich and Greek fries and everything far exceeded our expectations. I can't even pick a favorite but I can tell you that their garlic tzatziki sauce is extremely addicting. We will 1000% be ordering again. Who knows? Maybe tomorrow. Quit reading this... GO TRY MOMO'S NOW!

Yelp
I love the Chicken Shwarma plates here! So flavorful and delicious Their portions are pretty generous and consistent!

Yelp
Fantastic Greek fries, hummus, lamb plate, Greek salad, chocolate rolls!!! Wonderful service!!! What a great little place!
google avatar

Alisha D.

Yelp
Finally! A Gryo that tastes like it's supposed to. The meat was seasoned and cooked perfectly! The garlic sauce was amazing too. I got a Gyro combo meal and it was just over $10. So good, will definitely be back for more. They're open 11am-8pm everyday (noon on Saturday's). Very convenient as there is plenty of parking in the area and they were quick (waited less than 8 minutes for my food after ordering). Looks like they do call ahead pick up and delivery too!
google avatar

Aaron S.

Yelp
Really solid Mediterranean food. Beef kabab plate with rice was super tasty. Side of hummus was large and dripping with olive-oily goodness. Greek fries were a revelation.

Glen S.

Yelp
Ive lived in Hong Kong and the UK, eaten middle eastern food many places this is without question some of the best Ive ever had period. When they say scratch made believe it the real thing, had chicken shwarma rice plate. Not enough stars.

Yelp
SO HAPPY to have Momo's here in South Park! The price is definitely right for food this good from guys this nice and friendly. I only feel bad for taking so long to get around to Momo's since I live right around the corner. Finally stopped by, got the gyros plate and the falafel plate, both super tasty and good size portions for $11. Fluffy yellow rice covered with plenty of juicy, super flavorful gyro meat and big, perfectly fried falafels - crispy on the outside, soft inside, just a hint of spice in the crust, delicious! Cute little side salad with a tasty dressing, fat dollop of creamy hummus, and a big, soft, warm pita. Every little detail was thoughtful, and adding $1 sides of tahini and garlic sauce were the perfect add-ons. Zero complaints, the guys are friendly, turnaround was quick, everything was hot, perfectly prepared, and delivered with a smile! $25 fed two, with leftovers for lunch tomorrow. I'll be back for the shawarma ASAP. Thank you, Momo's, for coming to South Park!

Todd B.

Yelp
I tried it once and the falafel sandwich was excellent. I've since shown up 3 times to location where they were supposed to be only to find they weren't there or were closed, this includes Swedish Issaquah twice and their Capitol Hill location which is surrounded by construction. 1-star for unreliability and not updating their website/facebook page.
google avatar

Jason F.

Yelp
Been here several times now and the food has been consistently tasty. I have tried everything but the falafel so far. The Greek fries are yummy but if you care for those around you proceed with caution and a tictac. I would give them 5 stars but they've often forgotten the bread with my meals leaving me with lonely hummus.
google avatar

Belkisa V.

Yelp
Everything was delicious! My fav was the beef kebab, flavorful and smokey, loved the spices. The staff is very friendly also. Will definitely be back!
