I'd seen great preliminary reviews of this food truck, and I am a total sucker for Mediterranean food, so I was really excited to give Momo's Kebab a try. While I think there are a couple minor tweaks they could make to improve, I'm overall quite impressed with this food truck.
The menu is pretty simple: you have the option of chicken shawarma, gyro meat, beef*, and vegan falafel in one of three forms: plate, sandwich, or salad.
We ordered one each of the beef plate and chicken shawarma plate. The reason for the asterisk next to beef above is, midway through their making of our food, we learned that it's beef AND lamb and not just beef! This is kind of a critical distinction they should make on their menu board since not everyone likes lamb. Case in point was my mom who loathes lamb. They had no trouble re-making her meal to be a chicken shawarma plate after the discovery of the lamb-in-the-beef was discovered, which was very appreciated.
While they were cooking the food, they even gave us a sample of one of their falafel and garlic sauce for dipping. Holy cow, this was easily the best falafel I'd ever had. It was SO crispy on the outside, but soft, moist, and and super fluffy on the inside. It was extremely well-seasoned with warm, delicious Mediterranean spices. And the garlic sauce was pure heaven. Easily beats every other garlic sauce in the area that I've tried. I'm not vegan, but I'd absolutely go back just for this dang falafel.
When the food was ready they generously threw in a couple chocolate rolls too. Their customer service was impeccable.
So, the verdict on the food we got to go. It was quite good. The rice was flavorful and again, the garlic sauce is simply to die for. Their pita and homemade hummus (!!!) is very delicious too. The chicken, however, was on the dry side. It was well-seasoned, just overcooked. Most of the other Mediterranean places I've tried in the area use thigh meat for their chicken shawarma, and I think using thigh meat or at least cutting the chicken breast into larger pieces would go a long way here.
Finally, the chocolate rolls. They were so delicious! Think baklava but rolled up and drizzled with chocolate. Really a lovely way to end the meal.
Overall, Momo's Kebab is a great food truck. You can't go wrong with their falafel. I think with the tweaks I mentioned, this would be my go-to place for chicken shawarma too.
