This Stylish Honolulu Hotel Is an Adults-Only Haven in Waikiki - Hotels Above Par - Boutique Hotels & Travel

"A vibrant Japanese-style bar and small-plates restaurant located off the hotel lobby, it channels izakaya tradition with Hawaiian influences and a convivial atmosphere. The menu is built for sharing and highlights kara-age (Japanese fried chicken), a poke sampler and a tableside wagyu trio, with a memorable chocolate namelaka dessert finished with tahini caramel and black sesame seeds. The beverage program includes Japanese sakes, whiskeys and creative cocktails, and weekend DJs (Thursday–Saturday) bring extra energy; children are permitted in the restaurant even though the property is adults-only."

The Godzilla rolls were really good a bit too much of mayo. The okonomiyaki is really good. The ahi tuna tataki is excellent! Chicken karage was just ok, the short ribs were really good but a little bit too sweet imo. The shrimp tempura was not actually fried, it was more styr fried that deeps fried. The salmon poke was good a bit spicy for me. Overall, you can have for your experience, 2-3 meals to share per person. You go to the restaurant more for the experience more than to be full. It is a bit overpriced for what it is tho.

We had a great meal here, the food was promptly served, the server had great recommendations and we loved all the dishes. Don't forget the cocktails, they were very well balanced and sophisticated. The ambiance was upscale, I highly recommend this place, loved it!

Quaint and modern restaurant located a step away from the International Marketplace. Service was friendly and attentive. Food arrived timely and tried several items on the menu. Flavors were a mix of modern and traditional. Portions may look small but with the prices being so affordable for many of the dishes, you can get full quite fast ordering a lot but not breaking the bank. Definitely would bring friends and family here to experience good food away from the bustle of the Waikiki crowds. They also have a special gift for solo diners.

We love Japan, and we have been to Japan. This Izakaya is a place to be in Waikiki. Good food and good cocktail. We found the prices fair compared to other places this standing in Waikiki. This will remain on our top 3 favorite restaurant here. 69 $ per person with 2 cocktails and 4 big plates to share ! Thanks to the team !

What a hidden gem! Everything was superb from the ambiance, service, FOOD! and my husband LOVED the whiskey selection! On top of everything the DJ made it so vibey, with amazing music! What was exceptional was the staff! I’ve visited Japan and it brought back so much memories especially the quality of food and drinks! I truly believe that Japan takes so much pride and excellence in everything they do and i’m so happy that they brought to at here to Hawaii!!! We will definitely be coming back!!

I almost passed on this place due to the funky name and the fact that it's a hotel restaurant, but it really is a great fusion Izakaya, probably one of the best! Everything was well executed (except a few pieces of beef tongue), usually with some nice creative twists. Servers gave great recommendations (you could tell they did try the food personally). Price wasn't high at all compared to other Izakayas, and they had some affordable, filling (and equally delicious!) dishes (best okonomiyaki I've had!).

Thursday evening, visited this new izakaya place located in Romer House Waikiki. It's located on the ground floor, entrance right before the hotel reception area. This restaurant doesn't follow the standard japanese style interior that you see in other izakayas around hawaii. It's more upscale and caters to tourist. The restaurant interior appears to be more elegant, appears to have an outdoor garden (almost secret garden vibe), earthy concept with dimmly lit lighting, and has a romantic like atmosphere. Great for couples and groups to converse. Although no privacy, once side is the hotel hallway, the side fronts the street. The music was all over the place...it didn't match the environment. Later in the night, they had a live DJ playing. Service was okay. They were on point in the beginning when we were the only group. However, the restaurant filled to half and they didn't seem to keep up. We tried to wave them down a few times, felt like they ignored us. They also forgot our drinks (several times) throughout the night. But they apologizes and gave us free drinks for forgetting. Also note, if you write a Google review and show it to them, the table gets 10% off the check...no matter good or bad the review. Food is expensive and shareable. Most of the dishes were favorable, savory, and delicious...an upscale version of what you would see in an izakaya. I really liked the senpai curry yakisoba, oko oko pancake, sho's karaage, maki katsu, umami mushrooms, grilled eggplant, and beef tongue. Down side, the sizzling plate didn't really sizzle, and some of the shareables like the scallop taki were only two pieces. Most of the shareables are sized for two maybe three people tops. Another thing, they do this table side wagyu cooking thing. It's ridiculous considering how smokey it gets in the restaurant with no table ventilation in place. For cocktails, the "ring ring ring" coffee whiskey was delicious. The "who you gonna call" yuzu honey toki whiskey one was not too bad. Parking is valet only, first 3 hours are free with validation.

It's insane to me how anyone could have a bad experience here. So, to the handful of negative reviews, you're entitled to your wrong opinions. I don't have too many photos of the dishes here. Sorry, but when a place is good I just grind. I love this place for so many reasons and have been here at least a dozen times. The first time I ever stepped foot in here I noticed the wallpaper and I loved that little homage to the classic diners of yesteryear seemlessly blended into the interior decor. Even the canvas like material of the menus provides a sensory experience that sends you back to your childhood, using a pay phone and thumbing through the pages of the attached phone books. The fonts were a nice little detail as well. Reminded me of places like Wisteria and just of all the places that ceased to exist in Hawai’i once I hit adulthood. But you don't want to read yapping about that. As I mentioned, I don't have a lot of pictures of the food here, but trust that it's bomb. I always get the Prime Beef Skirt Steak and will usually load up on sashimi. 10/10 opt for the aloha spoon as well because uni is the custard of the sea. My go-to drink is the Kiss Me Thru the Phone. It's a perfectly balanced cocktail with awayuki white strawberry gin, mint, lemon, egg white and a sprinkle of matcha. The umami from the matcha really does wonders to bring everything together and is an overall very refreshing drink. All the dishes are pretty good, the karaage is probably another go to. The rolls are decent as well as the okonomiyaki, scallop yaki, and kalbi. I think the only thing I didn't care for too much was the Hanabi Sashimi I had one of the last times I came, a bit salty for my palette. Also wish they still had the croquettes.

Yelp
An absolute treat for me and my friends. The ambiance and vibe of this restaurant was very chill. The staff was attentive, always smiling, and it seemed like everyone, including my group was having an amazing time. The food was just right in terms of portions and size. Everything had great flavor including the drinks. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone living or visiting Hawaii.

Yelp
The space was nice and modern and I like their quirky menu design. Service here was good and waiters were attentive. We got a little bit of appetizer and main dishes, but our favorite was the miso salmon and auntie's gau gee. The salmon was soft and not dry at all. I was pleasantly surprised by the gau gee's which had intense umami flavors. Just as a heads up there is a cake fee, $5 per person. Parking is validated valet for 3 hrs.

Yelp
Went with a few friends to try this spot after seeing some posts online. It is a trendy and low key spot in Waikiki. While parking can be daunting, they offer free 3 hour valet parking which makes it easy if you still want to try it out! I made a reservation online and we arrived and were seated. It was pretty empty when we got there - maybe because it's a bit hidden off the main strip of Waikiki. While we had to wait a little to get seated, once seated our waitress was very helpful. Cocktail menu is cute with craft drinks and cute/unique names. They had recently changed up the menu when we got there, so I believe most things were pretty new. I would say their menu is a mix of local style/american. For food, we got the kalbi, fried rice, Caesar salad, chili chicken and poke hand rolls. Kalbi was pretty tender and nicely marinated. And the standout was the chili chicken for me! Super juicy and tender with good flavor. I was pleasantly surprised at the food and would want to come back! We shared everything family style and it was a good amount for three of us. It is a great spot to catch up with friends and we really enjoyed it! While a little pricey, I think it provides a nice atmosphere and portion sizes are reasonable for what you pay for. A great find in Waikiki!

Yelp
Nice restaurant - service was great. We had family in from out of town - they spent a month in Japan and stayed at the Romer House for a week before heading back to the continental U.S. We had a reservation for 4, and were sat in a comfortable booth. We ordered a bottle of sake (and we got to choose our own, unique sake glass). Food was prepared and presented well though our only critique is that much of it was very salty. I was excited about the chicken karaage though it was fried a little too long and was too salty. We ordered the prime beef short ribs, which again, were way too salty. There were things we liked - the sushi rolls were all very tasty and we loved the Ocean Umami. We sat for a while and caught up over the sake. A good time was had though I can't say we'll return.

Yelp
Super cute spot that's got the vibe and the cuisine to match it's very trendy and insta-worthy gramable photos! When you first step in, it is a bit slower on the weekdays. I went in to treat myself about a month ago and i was just mesmerised by the view again, as this had been my second time. I definitely enjoyed their play on words in their menu. The Kimono is a must have.... Topped with fresh ahi and inside some yummy SNOWcrab mix. Nice little crunch to add more texture from the bubu arare(iykyk). The service is also pretty phenomenal! They do offer a 3-course that seemed very reasonable. My favorite salad they have is their Miso Caesar! Adding miso to the Caesar really elevates the tastebuds bringing forth a more umami bite! I could not pass up some chicken karaage to pair with it! And it sure didn't disappoint! I do hope to try the three coursed meal and a special cocktail too possibly. Shoutout to Noe who took great care of me and made me not feel alone as I was eating by myself! Loved her and loved this place! I will be back for more in no time... maybe this upcoming week?

Great food off the beaten path. A must try Great ambiance. And you have to go to the Lei Stand for drinks after. So much fun!

Yelp
Our waitress was the sweetest person and made our experience so pleasant here. My boyfriend and I were celebrating our one year anniversary here for dinner and were treated well with a glass of prosecco, which really made the night. For drinks I ordered the hotline bling which was like a midori inspired drink, it was good. My boyfriend got the "who you gonna call" which was a whiskey based drink, the foam was perfect like a cold brew almost, it was a more dark and sweet drink. Some drinks weren't available for the night which was a bummer, but we still enjoyed every item we had. Japanese style sharing plates is encouraged, you order multiple items per person. The edamame was spicy but delicious. The grilled shrimp was tasty. The skirt steak stole the show coming in sizzle hot and full of juicy flavor! Best skirt steak I've ever had to this day. Our dessert was a chocolate fudge, great to share ending this wonderful evening. The atmosphere is intimate and classy.

Yelp
I had a wonderful dinner here. It was upscale dining which was a nice change of pace from the standard Hawaiian and Japanese food I was eating during my six night stay in Waikiki. I had the miso Cesar salad, wagyu special and panna cotta. The salad was light and refreshing. The steak was excellent - tender, fatty, juicy, delicious. It was served with sliced asian pear which added sweetness to the dish. The panna cotta was different. It's thicker and grainy than the typical panna cotta, but I still enjoyed it. For drinks, I had the lychee martini and ring, ring, ring. Both were smooth, well balanced and easy to drink. The ring, ring, ring was an espresso martini served in a tea cup which I thought was creative and cute. Service was excellent. Taryn was friendly and checked in several times, Food arrived quickly. The restaurant is modern, sophisticated and relaxing.

Yelp
Checked out this nice ambiance restaurant in Honolulu, but came in close to the kitchen closing. The manager working was nice enough to seat us and servers provided quick service with recommendations. The food came out fairly quick and the tasted great! Bonus: They have a DJ playing a mix of old/new RnB so it was a vibe. *Not in photos, but the KISS ME THRU THE PHONE cocktail was a 10/10. So delicious!!!

Yelp
I wanted a light dinner before bed and Izakaya 855's small portions were ideal for a light yet satisfying meal. The ambiance is romantic, yet casual which makes it perfect for birthday/celebratory dinners. My guest and I ordered 3 dishes to share - the mahi katsu, miso-marinated butterfish, and the miso Caesar salad. Surprisingly, the Caesar salad ended up being our favorite! Out of the two fish dishes, I would get the butterfish because of its fresh tangy marinade. The mahi katsu was alright, but I could have gotten twice the portion at a food truck on the same street. Our server was polite and informative when explaining the menu. The dishes are meant to be shared among the table, with each diner ordering 2-3 dishes depending on how hungry they are. The only issue I had with service was it took about 20 minutes for our first dish to be served, and about 15 minutes in between each dish. I feel there was something off with the chef (I don't think it was a server issue), because other dishes were coming out to tables who were seated after my table.

Yelp
Nice clean ambiance with dimmed lights and different table set ups. Nice place to dress up and have an intimate dinner. Went with a group of four. Loved the cocktail selections and the menu with unique twists overall. Ordered four cocktails, chicken karaage, miso Caesar salad, 2 aloha spoons, grilled eggplant, grilled beef tongue, ocean umami cold scallops, geisha roll, seafood pancake. Everything was $206 before tax and tip. Enjoyed all of the food. Very fresh. The waitress was also very nice and moved our table because we were cold sitting by the fan. My friends and I enjoyed our cocktails. We liked the matcha cocktail the best. Items I would order again: Ocean umami, miso Caesar salad, aloha spoon Critiques: Beef tongue was a hit tough I noticed the waitress' thumb touched the inside of my friend's matcha cocktail Overall we enjoyed the ambiance and food.

Yelp
I was staying at the hotel for a quick staycation and wanted to try this restaurant. I'm very happy I did! I went around 6:00 PM on a Friday night and was seated immediately. I hadn't made any reservations but I think since it was so close to when they opened, it wasn't too busy yet. Once I was seated, I was helped immediately. Offered water and Prosecco as well! It was on the house as I was a solo diner. I wish more places did things like this because I do so many solo adventures. Then I ordered some shrimp tempura ($15) as well as the wagyu. I got the miyazaki which has a 4 ounce minimum at $26/oz. It was so delicious and I'm glad I trusted the many servers that helped me. Throughout my short time dining I think I had four servers lol. All were so kind and had extensive menu knowledge. The overall vibe of the place was really nice, warm, intimate and open. You can tell they are trying to create a certain standard and I can see it! I would dine again.

Yelp
Holy bejesus don't leave Waikīkī without trying this food. I'm staying in the attached hotel and thought I'd grab a bite at the bar after a long day of diving. I don't usually have high hopes for restaurants in hotels- but 855 changes that. As apart of the Mina group - sourcing, preparing & plating are all too notch. Ryan not only was a great and attentive bartender; but also kind, friendly and genuinely proud of the plates served. Miso Caesar- shockingly mind blowing. There's something about the Parmesan here it had the consistency of a macadamia nut. Perfect umami. Amberjack ceviche was my least favorite comparatively to the wagyu and Miso Butterfish I ordered; not because it wasn't enjoyable, but those other two. Oof Can't wait to return and try more things! Update- had the breakfast spam Sando - to die for

Yelp
What a pleasant surprise this restaurant was... tucked away in a quiet hotel on a small street off the main avenues of Waikiki... it had such a moody vibe immediately when we walked in, not in a pretentious way but modestly elegant and cool. The food was a mix of creative fusion of Japanese and hawaiian elements, and also a selection of classic Japanese style bar bites. The chicken kara-age was perfectly crispy and juicy, the grilled shrimp was fresh and flavorful, the sendai curry yakisoba was a favorite of ours that night, and I really loved the oko-oko pancake a very well executed okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake). We also ordered a side of sashimi which was very fresh and just melted in the mouth. I also want to mention the great cocktail menu, great tropical mixes with cute names. Put this restaurant on your must-try list.

Yelp
Shoutout to our amazing servers for always taking care of us. Absolutely love the vibe and ambiance of Izakaya 855. Just the fact alone that this is the first adults-only hotel already makes this great (no screaming children). The food was all on-point. I got the spicy ahi roll, and the ahi salad. My peeps all really enjoyed their dishes too. The espresso martini and shooters was on the house. Alcohol was strong... LOL! Lemme not drink too much anymore ...

Yelp
Aloha is found here... Thank you Nadine C for the suggestion as it's a complete surprise to have a cool izakaya right in the heart of Waikiki, located on the ground level in Romer House which is a 21 and over hotel that I've heard but have forgotten about, as I was carded to enter from a gentleman who I thought was the valet which by the way they do and is free for up to three hours for dining here which I didn't know but was lucky to have found parking just down the street. I told him that we had reservations here but was early and was really nice about it and let us in with a suggested to we check out the pool area upstairs which we did was nice as there was a lot of lounge chairs is a great option as well besides the lobby bar our lounge area. Once seated we were greeted by our server who was just a delight knew her menu items like a pro and got our oshibori which is a nice and refreshing way to start our dinner we tried to decide what to order as there was quite a bit of items to choose from, one we had to as it was Bun-Bun Hiyashi Chuka which I do love the light soma vinaigrette topped with lots of veggies ...yum! Which then came the Chirashi Don where if you can find it is on a bed of sushi rice and is topped with the load of fresh fish, tamago which was like an endless variety choice was excellent. Then comes the "Mushi Mushi" which is a steamed Monchong on a huge piece of Wakame seaweed for of course the umami topped with mushrooms, carrots and a thick ankake sauce was a stunning prevention and so delicate. Then my favorite "Sendai Curry Yakisoba" which is one of the Chef's recommendations as it's a personal recipe with the traditional yakisoba that' tossed in curry sauce topped with aonori omg the flavor was outstanding. Aaaand we just had to add one more the "Miso Gama-ae" which is a sesame dressing that's more like a paste coating the sugar snap peas and what a lovely fresh crunch that was nice to break the varieties we had...loved it. We did had to try the dessert "Kinako Panna Cotta" love kinako and had to give it a try though it was not at all what we thought as it also had Japanese Pear Butter and Puffed Black Rice. Not smooth like the usual Panna cotta very grainy and bland...I was so disappointed. On the back of the menu and the staff all do explain the concept of the decor and menu names for many that aren't familiar with the local payphone and Japanese terminology both go hand in hand and is fun for those that do understand but know that they do have wonderful menu choices and was just surprised of the fun decor and friendly staff but great company for a fun and unique experience. Thank you!

Yelp
First off, don't make the mistake of showing up at Romer Waikiki at the Ambassador, because this Izakaya is located inside of Romer House Waikiki! When going inside, know that the bar is to the left, the restaurant all the way to the right past the front desk area. We also made the mistake of going to the front desk first, to which the clerk advised that happy hour wasn't until after 9pm...but online it showed between 4pm-5pm which is why we were there. The hostess at the restaurant then came over to us to say that the restaurant was closed but that we could go to the bar, for open seating, which we did. There were 2 bartenders in front and a few other people behind the curtains to the left. We assumed it was their break room back there because they were laughing and swearing up a storm. Beautiful furniture and the way it was set up but, not so pleasant of an experience due to the cackling behind the curtains. As for the food, it was alright, nothing made me crave more. The chicken karaage, maybe 5 pieces at the most. Mainly breading, hardly any meat. The flavor wasn't anything to rave over. The mapo fries were super spicy for my palate. The smash burger was probably the best thing we ate, but the coleslaw didn't enhance the burger in any way, could've done without it. Overall, not my personal cup of tea. But the bartender was definitely easy on the eyes and accommodating in spending time explaining to us about their Clean Co. Tequila and Gin alternatives (zero-proof alcohol) that smells exactly like the real stuff.

Yelp
Came here to have a break from just poke. (Poke is amazing in Hawaii!) Part of the hotel lobby complex, this izakaya show cases sheek and modern cocktails and Hawaiian Japanese fusion izakaya fare. We had amazing moist and well seasoned karaage. I loved the charcoal smoke of the gyutan yaki. The cut is just right were it's not too thick and not too thin. Their yaki soba and okonomitaki served tapa style so allows you to try other things. Hands down love their aloha spoon shot filled with uni, salmon roe, and quail egg. I would ask next time to make it into a uni or oyster shooter. Also had a beef stew that was tapas style and comforting. I recommend this izakaya if visiting Waikiki!

Yelp
855 Aloha offers family style dining. Portions were big. Chili crisp chicken and their mushroom gyoza were my favorite. Our server was Noalani... I hope I spelled that right. I went with her recommendations and no regrets. They were all good. Ambiance was nice and quiet. Away from the crowd.

Yelp
just FYI the menu is changed see the picture. I was interested in what was said in the old review and came here to find that menu has changed. We tried: kimono the sushi roll, the detour shrimp, the kimchi fried rice and the chili crisp chicken. I will provide review later.

Food was great, service was a little long. Nice ambiance. Long valet line. But they validate for Hyatt Centric. Over all great experience. Will come again.

Yelp
After an amazing Yelp event I decided to bring my husband for his birthday dinner. Our reservation was for 7pm. The staff is very welcoming and hospitable. Valet parking makes it so easy in Waikiki, 3 hours validated parking. I wanted to return primarily because of the wagyu sando and the Nama dessert. We ordered a number of other things . They were good. I probably would not order the kakiage again as it was too big and a bit filling. My favorites were the Wagyu, scallops and dessert. Our server was really cute and friendly. The biggest issue for me was the noise level at 7pm. Shorty after we arrived, it got quite loud. Lots of young folks and loud music. Everyone was having a great time! Friends that went 5:30pm told me it was really pleasant and quiet.. so next time I'd plan to go early.

Yelp
Izakaya 855 was right by our hotel so we decided to try it. We were lucky and got seated right away! We tried a few dishes and most of them were delicious. Ocean Umami 4/5 very fresh Ahi Tuna Tataki 5/5 sauce and toppings paired so well together Broccolini 5/5 the sauce was so good! Skirt Steak 4/5 Beef Tongue 3/5 this was thicker and tougher than what I'm used to Miso Marinated Butterfish 5/5 my fav from the night! so savory and fish was cooked perfectly The service was great and the workers really took care of us. Hopefully one day I can come back to try the drinks too!

Yelp
Love the decor. Baby loved the lamp when she found out there was a button to change the settings. It's in the lobby so you can watch people walk by. Little cold...but I"m always cold. Waitress really sweet. Super helpful even with our messy baby. She had a LOT of suggestions...we took some. Ordered a bunch of stuff in no particular order... - Miso caesar salad - good refreshing salad, but could barely taste any miso. Just a regular salad. - Edamame naked - no spicy for the baby. This was grilled? Different...I liked it though. - Karaage Chicken - not bad. Came with sauce which it needed..or just a squeeze of lemon. Baby liked it! - Miso Soup - for baby...she ate the tofu but didn't want the soup. - Ocean Umami - good...but not sure how to eat it. Seemed like it should have been on a spoon maybe? Picked up ikura piece by piece with hashi. Time consuming, so used the spoon from the soba. - Umami Shiitake - really good. Hubs thought needed salt, but I liked it. Buggah holds the heat tho so watch out! - Mahi Katsu - I'm on a mentaiko kick so really liked that. Mahi was super thin though. - Yakisoba - tasty but way too overcooked. Super soft. Perfect for baby. - Skirt Steak - YUM. This was delish. Did NOT order the "Butterfish" since it's that Walu Butterfish-wannabe that makes people poop oil. Beware. At least they tell you it's Walu...so you have been warned. The Geisha and Godzilla sushi rolls sounded a little overwhelming. A little too much going on. The other rolls were typical, but maybe we missed out. Thought we would need more, but actually with drinks, we even had leftovers. Overall pretty good. Hopefully they add or change the menu since we ordered a bunch of it...incentive to go back and try new things.

Yelp
Izakaya 855-Aloha Overall: ***** Highly Recommended ***** Food: ***** Value: **** Menu: **** Ambiance: **** Service: ***** Parking: **** (valet or street) Wow! Delicious! When I first learned of Izakaya 855-Aloha, I looked at the few pictures of the food on Yelp, but I wasn't impressed. However, when I ate there and tried different dishes, I was very impressed! They serve both tradition Japanese izakaya dishes, as well as creative fusion dishes. I loved their Fuji Sando (Miyazaki A5 wagyu) sandwich, and their Kara Ebi (shrimp tempura). I enjoyed two of their specialty cocktails. The Serial Cabernet Sauvignon was very smooth and the sake that I had was also good. The hotel looks recently renovated, and they have both a nice bar area as well as a comfortable dining area. If you're looking for new restaurants to try, I would highly recommend trying Izakaya 855-Aloha for your next dining experience. You won't be disappointed! I'm going back the next chance I get. Yelp
Food came out pretty well, came on valentines week so they had a cute special menu. Very small portions for a big price point but the quality is good. It's a hotel meal so you expect to pay a lot. Drinks were very strong too! The customer service, I did have an interaction that rubbed in the wrong way. I would like to justify maybe there was a language barrier but it definitely killed the mood of the rest of our night. As we ordered, I made sure to point at the menu items I wanted. I pointed at the temakis as I said the items each. The server asked "roll? And I said hand roll yes - and pointed to the menu item" the food came out we got a bunch of sushi rolls. I told the female server the mistake and she just asked "so you don't want these" I said "no because that's not what he ordered" she proceeded to walk off to the server and he went over to me and said "i asked you rolls you said yes" and I tried to explain I said hand rolls and pointed at the items on their valentine menu to make sure he wasn't confused. He said "okay so you changed" and that had me so appalled I very calmly had to explain again and he scurried off. He didn't check on us the rest of the night. We had another female server check in and she was really nice to us. We tried to even wave down the male server but didn't get much luck until it came with the check. That's when he apologized when I was just about to tip. Again, I would like to emphasize the language barrier, but that was such an ill feeling. Unfortunately this was not an ideal hotel dining experience but overall food and drinks I would say it was quality over quantity. If you're a hotel guest - grab your sake bomb vouchers, tip, and hele out the door.

Yelp
Dinner in Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii... Since there's free metered street parking on Sundays and holidays, Irene M. and I decided to visit this Hot New Business named Izakaya 855-Aloha on Sunday, 6-30-24. Located on the ground level of Romer House Waikiki (an adults only hotel), this izakaya offers complimentary 3 hours of validated parking! Shucks - I didn't know. I parked for free on Ala Wai Boulevard... 4 blocks away! Alyssa was our cheerful, competent server. She was patient, had great timing, and had a fun sense of humor! We ordered: 1. Bun-Bun Hiyashi Chuka - the vinegarette dressing threw me off 2. Chirashi Don - above average because of the fresh scallops 3. Sendai Curry Yakisoba - tasty! 4. Mushi Mushi: Junmai sake-steamed Monchong - quite good! 5. Miso Goma-ae: Sugar snap peas with miso sesame dressing - very good! Dessert: Kinako Panna cotta - a bit disappointing because of the odd flavor and rather thick consistency We appreciated the spacious, modern atmosphere with old-school telephone themes - check out the wallpaper! The amusing menu names are clever! The presentation of all food items were beautiful! Note: the restroom is right outside of the restaurant and down the hallway

Yelp
This spot is a hidden gem in the hustle of Waikīkī. We made a same day reservation, sat immediately and had our first order within 5 minutes. Really clean, hip atmosphere set inside a newly renovated Romer hotel. Everything we ate was top notch. -Chicken Karaage- 5/5 -Grilled Eggplant- 4/5 great flavor, eggplant texture... awesome if you like eggplant. -Sushi- 5/5 fresh and delicious, unique combos -"Okonamiyaki" style seafood pancake- 4/5 could do with more cabbage and less shrimp. Great presentation. -Curry Yakisoba- 5/5 awesome. This place is tucked away and absolutely worth checking out. Avoid the tourist traps and hit this up.

Yelp
Drinks were on point! Andrew was an amazing bartender, seriously a badass at his craft. My partner and I came here to celebrate our anniversary, and the ambiance was incredibly romantic. Although we missed the food window (our bad!), the cocktails more than made up for it. Each drink was a work of art, with complex flavors and creative ingredients. The names were just as fun! We can't wait to return and finally try the food.

Yelp
Izakaya 855 Aloha is inside Hawaii's first adults-only hotel, Romer House Waikiki, on Nahua Street near International Marketplace. This location has been many things since I've lived here and this is by far the nicest and most modern concept. The hotel has been completely remodeled, which includes this restaurant and bar that takes up most of the lobby. If you're coming in, make sure to check out the pool bar portion, which has its own drink and food menu with tables around the pool deck upstairs. I visited on a weekend evening, the bar area leans into evening and late night not during the day right now. The decor is modern but with nostalgic 60s artwork by local artist Solario featuring phone booths and old style faux advertisements to lean into the phone number name of the restaurant "855 Aloha". It's cozy here, with tables for 2 or 4, plus bar seating, casual chairs, and outdoor seating (this would be in direct sun in the early evening, but probably pleasant once the sun sets). I had stopped in a little too early and talked to the bartender to see the glassware, which were also designed by Solario and really well done. They have a full bar of liquor, draft beer (a small but thoughtful selection of local and macro favorites), plus various sake. The menu is perfect for any occasion, with small pupu to larger dishes, sharing size or for one. I look forward to coming back and trying the food soon. On my visit I came for a drink and ended up having a great time thanks to the bartenders. I tried a 'sake bomb' for the first time; a shot of sake on top of chopsticks dropped in Sapporo Lager. It was a fun combination and I appreciated trying one. The staff are still learning about the new place and menu, but were already professional and super friendly. I look forward to coming back. There was a private event on the pool deck, so it also seems this would be a great location for parties and group events. 18/21 and up of course!

Yelp
So delicious! We got the Aloha spoon, wagyu, miso Caesar salad and their rendition of mapo tofu. Aloha spoon SLAPPED!! So good, could put back 3 of these in a row. All the best things from the ocean in one delicioso bite. The wagyu was really good with the touch of real wasabi. Miso Caesar salad was true to its name but nothing spectacular and might I recommend adding stronger notes of anchovy to the dish?? Lastly the mapo tofu rendition sadly lacked any ~ma~ or ~la~ but was really salty (and I rarely think things are too salty.......) so that's tragically a total miss. But the real star of the show was the drinks! Would definitely recommend coming here for happy hour (starts at 9pm, only at the bar).

Yelp
Very tasty dining in an ultra modern ambience with friendly informative service. Exceptionally fresh seafood, elegant plating, and subtle seasoning. Highlights included the prime beef skirt steak, oko-oko pancake, Mahi katsu, Kara-age Karashi mustard fried chicken, and the miso marinated butterfish was outstanding. The garlic ginger grilled shrimp was a little too spicy and the sashimi was very fresh but quite a small serving. For a large seating of nine, not all dishes were served at the same time, but everything came out quite quickly compared to other restaurants. With many strong reviews, this restaurant did not disappoint. Overall one of the tastiest Japanese restaurants I have sampled. Even the simplest dishes were noticeably fresh and very well prepared.

Yelp
My friends and I were more on the bar area side of this place and it was such a vibe! A super cute pay phoned theme spot with a unique food and drink menu. We got a variety of drinks that included midori sours, lychee martinis, Akashi ume highball and espresso martini. The drinks were super cute and we all enjoyed them. For food we shared the mapo fries and our friends also got the chicken kara-age, smash burgers and yakisoba. The fries were soo good! Nice and crispy and even had a little kick to them. Our friends really liked the smash burgers and yakisoba. The perfect food to sober us up and drink more drinks haha. Service was good and I believe they validate parking for up to 3 hours! 855 is a fun and cute place to go out for drinks and great food! It's more on the fancier side so prices are kinda high but not too surprising since it's Waikiki.

Yelp
I really enjoyed coming here for my birthday. The rest of the group liked the food but thought the portion sizes were too small for what you pay. I would agree with that but I still really liked the eggplant. It's a must try. It's not an easy place to find when you are walking or driving on the street since it's located in the hotel. The outside of the hotel/restaurant is not clearly marked. It's a very elegant modern design.

Yelp
The food was amazing and the service was very attentive. It's in a hotel but very cozy and could be romantic if you're dining in as a couple. We tried quite a few dishes and what I found to be very unique compared to most Japanese restaurants were their Edemame and eggplant. The spicy edemame had a smoky charred flavor which was very addicting and the eggplant had a super delicious flavor. Would definitely go back!

Yelp
The food here was amazing. It's definitely a cooler / more trendy spot. Not on the main strip, it was only a short walk for us from Waikiki besch. We made a last minute reservation but despite the online service saying they had seating available immediately when we arrived they said we had to wait. This was fine though, we went to the bar and got drinks while we waited and we were called for our table only about 15 min later. Bartenders were very friendly and helpful too. It may be a trendy spot but the service was warm. The dining area is sectioned into two areas, one half of it was not open. Based on other photos this often seems to be the case. Anyways. The food. We got one of their specials that night (a wagyu dish) their take on a veggie pancake, and their pickled veg trio. Everything was super delicious. The wagyu was great, cooked perfectly, with a tasty sauce. The vegetable fritter (I don't recall what they called it on the menu) was not what I expected but was really tasty. Perfectly crispy with a nice sauce. The pickled vegetable trio was nice too, really refreshing. Would come again!

Yelp
Came here for a late dinner on Valentine's day, we did take a look at the menu online beforehand and saw their lovers + friends menu for that weekend. The food on the regular menu sounded more yummy so we ordered from that instead. Servers were all very kind and accommodating. We ordered beef tongue, yellowtail hanabi sashimi, and ahi tuna tataki. The beef tongue was so good we ordered another one!

Yelp
It's my first time here and I have enjoyed my dining experience. The food is so reasonably priced and everything tasted great. And don't let the sizes fool you! It seemed like smaller portions to me at first but my goodness did it become filling half way through the dinner lol. And I absolutely loved having Kennedy as our server, she really listened and paid attention to detail with all of my specific requests and she was just the absolute sweetest! I will be coming back in the future for sure :) @emi_sklar

Yelp
Ohhh kay, so when you visit a restaurant, you may forget to write a review... that's me! Also, sometimes, after the first visit you may think, ohmigosh, I love this place... but I need to come back again before I write a review. Maybe it was a one time love and then never come back, lol, that's me too! Kennedy you're so smart to tell me to write to my review now, so I don't forget, but also I'm not reaping an incentive of a discount. Let me clarify though, the discount is absolutely NOT the reason I gave this place 5-stars! It's 5-stars for the service I've gotten the 2 visits I've been here and the food and drinks~ sooo good! Kennedy was our server this visit and she's soo friendly. This was my husband's first time, so we asked for suggestions and she didn't disappoint. One of the dishes she recommended was Bun-Bun Hiyashi Chuka and another was Mapo Yakko, both were soo delicious! I def would recommend these too. Heads up, the mapo yakko was a little spicy, but tolerable. The hotel may be hard to find, being so discreet. It's on the right side and with the big windows and with aesthetic outside seating. Parking is valet only.

Yelp
Service was exceptional!! I wish I had gotten her name. She served us on Friday the 18th for a grad celebration. She and everyone else were extremely attentive. The only thing is I wish she had given us our own bill since the person who picked up the tab may not have tipped her beyond the added 20% for large parties. ( she deserves extra) Food was good. Geisha roll was excellent. The skirt steak was SO good (server rec) we had 2 orders. Chicken karaage was really tasty. Actually, everything our table ordered was really good. Our only issue is that it is Izakaya style so all small plates. Pupus. Don't go if you want a full meal. We had to get more food after. Lol I wish I had gotten pics of food. They have valet right in front. Or park at international market place and just walk across the street not far at all.

Yelp
This restaurant is inside the lobby of the new Romer hotel. They are brand new so expect the menu to adjust over time. In fact, a few items we tried this time were not yet on the menu but will be soon! Including Ahi Tartar and roasted eggplant. We tried the Aloha Spoons which is a fun take on an oyster shooter - with the uni, it was delicious! I could have had 10 more of them! We also tried the wagyu carpaccio which the chef charred right in front of us at the table. It was an excellent experience. We tried their scallops which I highly recommend - tender and sauced to perfection! We also tried the stew which tasted incredible with the miso broth but definitely is for an adventurous type (if you're into animal organs! Hearts, intestines, but also tofu and meats). We can't wait to come back to see what's new on the menu! (Rumors of nigiri and other sushi items to come)

Yelp
Great place to come for Izakaya and drinks in Waikiki! We got their sizzling Kalbi short ribs, karaage chicken, poke with wonton chips, and drinks. Food was good. We especially loved their karaage chicken!

Yelp
Stayed at the attached hotel so we decided to check this place out for dinner one of the nights. Weirdly, this place is reservation only, but we were the only ones there at 5PM. On nights we passed by, the restaurant was usually very quiet with only a few tables. Not sure why a reservation is required. Server was fantastic, knowledgeable, fast and attentive. Godzilla roll was basically OK, nothing special and nothing I haven't had before. Prime rib short ribs, which we were super excited about, were WAY too salty.. as soon as it touches your tongue it hurts salty. Yikes! Standout funnily enough, was the miso Caesar. Super tasty and refreshing, especially on a hot night! We also ordered the wagyu sushi that was a special for the night. Fantastic but of course, quite expensive. Overall a decent spot, maybe just need to try a few more dishes.

Yelp
Surprise! Surprise! Romer has a first class hit on their property that is value and service and everything nice. Insider tip: their salads are all great but the Caesar is next level which says it all. When a place can take something basic and keep it true to form while making it remarkable is a great sign of things to come. Everything is great! The food is delicious, clean healthy and tasty and quintessential of the best Japan has to offer. But what stands out is the clean simple decor that says hello come in and relax. Everything is new and clean but what is even better is the service which is so friendly and welcoming and sincerely that it sets the perfect mood for a date or just hanging out or even chilling on your own. Make plans for more than one visit on your vacation and locals come often you deserve it! See you all there early and often.

Yelp
It's another Friday Night Date Night and hubby & I tried the brand new Izakaya 855-Aloha. Turns out that tomorrow (7/13/24) is their grand opening. Parking - they have 3-hour validated valet parking. When you drive up, there is currently minimal signage. They told us that they're working on it. Until we finally saw the valet because he was standing away from the hotel, we had to go around the block twice. I was getting so irritated that I told my husband to just find someplace else to eat. Apologies, I'm impatient when it comes to parking. The restaurant decor has a kinda trendy, woody feel with sort of club music vibe. They're your typical izakaya (small plate) and the drinks appear to use Japanese-based liquor. I wanted a Tito's dirty martini and they didn't have Tito's, so they used Suntory Vodka instead. It was good, could have been dirtier, but it was good. Hubby had a drink called Kiss Me Through the Phone made with Awayuki White Strawberry Gin. That was a delicious, easy-to-drink cocktail that packs a punch. For dinner, we had Chicken Karaage, Sendai curry flavor yakisoba, tsukune, grilled broccolini, and Sendai Motsu Hi (a beefy nishime type dish). The chicken karaage was made with Jidori chicken and was so light and juicy. I honestly think it was one of the best karaage I've ever had. The yaki soba tasted like a cross of Chinese Singapore noodles and yaki soba. I enjoyed it. The tsukune was tender and the egg yolk teriyaki sauce on the side was a nice touch! The grilled broccolini was delicious; it was still firm and a little crispy. The Sendai Motsu Hi was great, tasted like nishime. The service was on point. Everyone was super friendly and trying to make you happy. My only comment is that the busboys were a little too eager. This restaurant and Mara in the Renaissance are all High Gate hotel properties. Strangely enough in both restaurants, staffers kept trying to take the plates even though there were still bites of food on it. Overall, we enjoyed our meal. Before tip, the total was $108 for the 5 dishes and two drinks.

Almost EVERYTHING WAS GREAT! The staff were exceptional, the food was delicious. The only thumbs down was the gnats. They were quite a few around the table.

Yelp
Overall Rating: 3/5 (Subtracted 2 stars for slow service and inattentive staff) We decided to check out Izayaki 855, a new Japanese restaurant in Waikiki. Unfortunately, the experience got off to a slow start--no server approached us for a solid 12 minutes after we were seated, so we deducted a star right from the beginning. To make matters worse, the service continued to be slow, and our server was not attentive, leading to another star deduction. What We Ordered: * Drink 1 - "Hotling Bling" (4/5): This drink was good, with a nice sweetness, but it could've used more lychee flavor. * Drink 2 - "What's Your Math": Absolutely delicious! * Appetizer 1 - 2 Aloha Spoons: Not too fishy whatsoever, went down like butter. * Appetizer 2 - Karaage Chicken (5/5): The chicken was incredibly tender, and the spices were to die for--everything I look for in food. Snacks: * Kinpira Hikiji (2/5): Lacked flavor, but the score went up because my gf loves edamame. * Sendai Motsu Ni (0/5): This dish went downhill fast. I really wish our server had explained what was in each dish when we asked because I absolutely hate liver, and this dish had liver. We sent it back. * Zabuton (3/5): The flavors were there, but the meat was chewy. * Hotate Yaki (4/5): I enjoy my scallops with some lemon juice. This dish had good flavor but lacked the citrus I desired. * Oko Oko (5/5): By far the best dish we had tonight. Ambiance - trendy, but it is basically a pathway for the hotel guests, so depending on where you're sitting, the intimate setting goes away. Pro free valet with validation

Yelp
We found Izakaya 855 during our Waikiki staycation and it was honestly one of the best surprises of the trip! This cozy, hole-in-the-wall spot has the perfect atmosphere for a casual night out -- relaxed, welcoming, and full of good energy. We ordered the eggplant dish (so flavorful and cooked to perfection!) and the Geisha Roll, which was fresh, delicious, and beautifully put together. Their cocktails were just as impressive -- we especially loved the 855 Water -- super refreshing and dangerously easy to sip. Everything we tried had that perfect balance of flavors that makes you want to keep ordering "just one more dish." If you're looking for a laid-back place with great food, amazing drinks, and a chill vibe, Izakaya 855 is a must. Already planning to come back on our next staycation!
