85°C Bakery Cafe Review: A Delightful Treat for Any Age What a wonderful find! As someone who’s been around the block a few times, I can honestly say 85°C Bakery Cafe is one of the most enjoyable bakery experiences I’ve had in quite a while. It reminds me of the bakeries I used to visit in my younger years, but with a modern twist—and a distinctly Asian/Taiwanese flavor that’s simply delightful. I was impressed right away by the huge selection of pastries. The shelves were full when we arrived in the morning, and it was such a joy to walk along and see all the fresh, beautifully made breads and treats. Everything looked so tempting! And the best part? The pastries aren’t overly sweet—just the right amount of flavor without going overboard. It’s a refreshing change from many bakeries these days. We picked up a mango cake, and it was light as air—not heavy or overly rich. Just perfect with a cup of tea. Truly a treat. The variety here is also worth noting; there’s something for every taste, whether you prefer sweet, savory, or a little bit of both. The staff was so kind and attentive, which I always appreciate. They made sure we found what we were looking for and had everything we needed. Service was quick and pleasant—just the way I like it. The coffee was fine—not the best I’ve had, but it’ll do if you’re having a pastry alongside it. Honestly, the real stars here are the baked goods. If you’re watching calories, maybe don’t look too closely—but trust me, it’s worth it now and then to indulge. The space is a bit small and not the most comfortable if you’re planning to sit for a while, but if you’re just picking up some goodies to take home or enjoy in the car, it works just fine. All in all, I highly recommend 85°C Bakery Cafe. It’s a charming spot with excellent baked goods and lovely staff. I think I’ve found my new favorite bakery—and that’s saying something!

Very delicious. Came for the red bean pastry. Did not disappoint. Buttery dense rich in flavor. Also tried the strawberry mango smoothie, it was fantastic!

Order drinks on the kiosk when you 1st arrive, because they generally only have 1 person working drinks and it takes a bit, especially if it's busy abd you have multiple. The overall selection at this location is pretty good, not as good as Southcenter though. They do a pretty good job keeping things clean, but when it's busy they can struggle. The staff is nice enough, but it's not one of those places where they'll go out of their way to make your day. It's get in, get out with great pastries type of service imo. Never had a negative experience, except for drinks taking long. We love, love, love the egg tarts...I have not had better. And my kids love the chocobuns and lemon muffin packs. Definitely try it out and get a box of egg tarts...you won't regret having them with coffee!

It’s pouring rain & gloomy day here in Seattle! This place is amazing. Such a good place for Asian/Taiwanese? bakery, fresh and sweet-less . Love, love, love it here! Staff was very attentive and also very friendly!! This just might be my new favorite bakery 😍

Google
We came in the morning so the shelf’s were fairly stocked. The selection is very good so fits many different tastes. We came in to get a mango cake which was airy delicious and just perfect. Highly recommend for baked goods. Coffee is alright, not the best. But baked goods are great. Just don’t count the calories. Food is great, service is fairly fast, atmosphere could use some work. Fairly small but if your just picking up it doesn’t really matter.

Google
The bakery items - wonderful and flavorful as always. The baker also announces when they place a new batch of food on the stands for people to maybe choose and pick the fresher one. This is an awesome gesture in my opinion. There is no concern with the quality here. The only concern I have is the crowd. It was a Sunday afternoon and it took me almost thirty minutes to get my stuff. There are three counters for payments however only two were at function. I understand having all three function at once would not have a tremendous impact however I would still say even if the customer's waiting time is cut by five minutes - its a win. The lavender latte is a clear winner. For the people going - I would recommend if you are more than one person and its busy - have one of you join the queue for payment and the other shop for the food - it will save time. As it is, coffee order is taken at the payment counter only, so you have to additionally wait for your coffee if ordering, even after your done with the payment queue. I still give a five star coz its the food and the price that knocks it off the roof.

The bread is very tasty, it is not cheap but it is delicious. I have not tried the coffee or any other drink, but they do sell it.

Jason R.

Google
Everything in the bakery is absolutely delicious. I highly recommend the red velvet! ❤️ all of the breads and snacks are backed fresh daily and priced reasonably. My only complaint is that they run out of red velvet too quickly, and there’s typically a long line to check out because they only have one cashier. Don’t forget to download their app to get some freebies.

Yelp
This is a generally good spot for baked goods. Their prices are high for what you get but the food does not disappoint. Most of the semi exotic flavor combos hit in a good way and I would go there for baked good if I am in the area. They are a nice alternative/departure from the normal doughnuts you might see at a breakfast or brunch meeting. The service is not great. I find myself not wanting to tip the folks as much because they seem aloof and a bit highfalutin. If you don't mind that sort of service then it is fine. It gives judgy coffee shop vibes. The cafeteria style line and serve yourself mentality is a weird contrast to the behavior of the employees but the baked goods are good enough that it doesn't much matter. Is it the best, no, it's good though and if you like your pastry less sweet or savory this place is for you.

Yelp
I came in around noon on a Sunday to buy a cake. The line was long but I expected that. For context it's Sunday, I was in my PJs and so was my toddler. I HAVE A TODDLER, ITS SUNDAY. Hence the PJs. I was standing in line and when the person in front of me finished I stepped up to place my order. The person looked up, looked at the line and called the person behind me up. I said "excuse me I'm right here". She looked me up and down and said "well I didn't see you". I'm sorry but she looked right at me and then called the next person!!!! Was it because I was in my pajamas? Was it because my hair wasn't done and I didn't have make up on? I felt 100% judged and that's the last thing I want from a business I'm standing in line to give my money to. Anyway I ordered the Ube Cream Cake. The drive was 20 minutes and when we cut into it 45 minutes after leaving the cafe the cake was frozen, the middle completely solid. I have decided not to give anymore money to this business and save myself any future judgmental experiences. Cake was 2/5 flavor wise, just frozen sponge cake topped with frosting and fruits. 5/5 for aesthetics if that's what you want to pay for.

Yelp
My son begged to go here today. I couldn't stay in there. Beside la it being crazy packed in there with no relief to the line. It also smelled like mildew. At first I thought it was a customer but as I continued to walk around I realized that it was the bakery. It has NEVER had a bad smell to it so it leads me to believe that management has changed.

Eileen H.

Yelp
Updating my previous review, because the aforementioned issues are no longer a problem. They finally have regular hours, staffing, and supply of ingredients! Their baked goods seem to get consistently smaller. However, as this is the only location that I frequent, I am not sure if the smaller sizes are consistent across locations, or if it is specific to this location. Either way, the fresh bread and improved, standardized operations keeps me coming back.

Kim Y.

Yelp
I like that this isn't as busy as the one in tukwila. When it isn't as busy, the line is shorter and things don't run out as frequently (or so I assume). I prefer parking here rather than tukwila too! They had lots of goodies left on the weekday afternoon! The folks were nice. The cakes here are good too! Lots of different flavors. Wished they had more savory selection for those who are watching their sugar intake. I don't fancy their drinks though. I find that they remind me of sugar water. Most of their pastries range from $2-4 each. Also, noticed that when they brought out the match red bean roll, they were soo cold as if it came from the freezer or something. I usually get those but that's a sign that it might not be freshly made. Would love to see more Asian flavors -durian, lychee, persimmon, longan, winter melon, black sesame, the list goes on and on. It's been a while since they had new stuff? Also best to consume their stuff on that day or the next otherwise they can go bad.

Chris V.

Yelp
It was a strange layout & not what I'm used to at other 85° bakeries. I left after walking in and checking it out.

Rae S.

Yelp
I have tried all sorts of their baked goodies here and they are all amazing. But one is by far my favorite. I have to have the taro bread. And not just one. I buy a bunch to bring home because it's simple the best. Such a comfort food!

Maggie L.

Yelp
Still my go-to bakery for bread. The individual bread is the perfect size for breakfast. Even though I don't like the new version of the app (nothing to do with the store) and several of the bread I like got discontinued, I love how there are new items to replace the older ones. And if you are a fan of boba, here's probably the cheapest place to get a milk tea with boba. I usually go for the Sea Salt Coffee or Rose Milk Tea Tip: Get the 85C app to accure rewards points to redeem free bread or drinks

Yelp
Date of Visit: November 29, 2024, 3:00 PM I stopped by 85°C Bakery Café in Federal Way for an treat with a friend. As we entered, the warm, inviting smells of fresh bread filled the air. I ordered a Thai tea, and my friend tried the signature strawberry cake. The cake was beautifully presented, and fresh. The Thai tea was so good and so sweet, but the overall experience was still great. The staff were quick, though there was a slight delay in getting my drink. We were happy with the quality of the food and the service. I'd recommend 85°C to anyone looking for a high-quality bakery experience, especially if you enjoy Asian-inspired pastries.

Mecca F.

Yelp
Got a mango slush as there menu don't support vegan options or substitutes for dairy. Service was great for the most part. Nice small Area to sit and wait.

Mitch H.

Yelp
My favorite bakery. They have so many options, most of which aren't overly sweet, which I prefer. The items are always so fresh and soft and delicious. The line is usually super long, which tells you they make good stuff but I also wish they could speed it up a bit. I waited 12 minutes after I paid for my coffee, which was just ok. The store itself is well lit and clean, and offers a few tables if you want to stay and eat. Have been many times, will be back again!

Yelp
Another visit at this bakery on 1/11/24 at 11:30 AM and encountered one of the rudest cashiers, ever! Her name was Donita, I believe. She was the one who checked me out and had an attitude towards me for no apparent reason. I had a tray with some of the pastries, 7, to be exact. I patiently waited in line like the other customers and when it was my turn, went over to her register to pay and leave. She didn't greet me at all, didn't ask if I was a rewards member and didn't ask if I had a drink order or not, which I had already placed by using the electronic kiosk machine at the entrance. I had to tell her that I also had a drink that I was picking up. And she was like, "Well, did you order it at the machine? I can't help with that at the moment." Then she simply threw my pastries into a bag instead of gently putting them inside and said, "You're welcome!" Gave me my receipt and moved on to another customer. I had to pick up my drink from another employee, an Asian young lady, who was more courteous and respectful. I thought working at a business that required dealing with customers, the employees were supposed to be friendly and kind to the people who were buying their products?!? What's the point of working there if you're gonna act all impolite, mean and rude to everybody?!? Might as well NOT work and go somewhere else! 0 Star Rating for POOR service to Donita (DT1206)! 5 Star Rating for the nice young lady who served me my drink. 2 Star Rating overall.

Luke K.

Yelp
They Always have fresh baked bread and awesome cakes. Cakes are not overly sweet like any other cakes at big grocery stores.

Jj L.

Yelp
I visited today around 2.30pm Ordered ice- latte. She made it her own way instead of the manual (based on my regular visit, this location puts milk on the bottom and espresso shot on top and not mix it -I love this taste so I go to this location). I asked her make it again and she was fucking rude. I explained to her how I normally get my iced lattee in this location and she said they dont make it that way. She was fucking rude the way she talked to me and her behavior. Never gonna visit this location again. Very bad customer service.

Brian S.

Yelp
Very shady business. Not sure if this is common practice, but will not buy from this location again. Bought a mango cake on Friday. Asked the staff if the cake was freshly made every day and the staff said yes. There's a sticker on it says "Friday". After got home, I noticed the "Friday" sticker had another sticker underneath. I peeled the stickers out and the sticker underneath says "Thursday". You gotta be kidding me. Who knows when the cake was made?..... it left a very nasty feeling now. Will not buy from this location again, maybe I will never visit any 85 degree again. $40 down the drain. For all the people reading this review, check the photos I attached. I am not making this up. If the business owner or manager is reading this, I don't know what to say to you guys. Food safety is obviously or your concern. Good luck to all your customers.

Julia C.

Yelp
Crazy busy. Always 10 mins late from everything at opening- usually not all bread is available till 12 pm ish... not a great place for seat down or talk. Average bread and looks nothing special

Jessica P.

Yelp
Everything baked daily. Cakes and baked goods are so light and fluffy and down right decadent. People behind the counter are so nice!

Tanis L.

Yelp
I arrived at 85°C Bakery Cafe in Federal Way a little under ten minutes before it opened at 9 a.m. on Friday 3 March 2023 and the cars were parking and people lining up. When they opened the doors, I made my way inside and started looking at the offerings, they were still putting trays out. I debated between a few things before going with the White Chocolate Strawberry custard bun, I am calling it a custard bun because it was on the shelf next to other custard bun(s) and they had a similar appearance. There were people in line, mostly following the social distancing stickers on the ground, though the wait was not long. My item was $2.25 with tax and they did not accept tips. The baked good was still warm to the touch, which I could feel through the wrapping and it was slowly steaming up the inside of the bag. The bun part was light and fluffy and the white chocolate strawberry custard sweet and smooth. Texturally it was like a mix of a custard and a compote, and even had a few melty white chocolate chips in it. Warm and satiating, I enjoyed it and my experience. The workers were professional and helpful. Parking was abundant.

Yelp
clean, easy & always reliable for treats and coffee/boba!! great service as well ::))

Brandiy M.

Yelp
For the last 3 years in a row this place has 'misplaced' or completely forgot to make my cakes although orders were put in a week to 2 in advance as was the payment. I like their cakes but it's not worth the disappointment and hassle. Don't go here, the staff has absolutely no clue where anything is or what their doing.

Yvonne V.

Yelp
So I've heard rave reviews about this bakery for years but have never made it in to try. Coincidentally, I was working in the area and my husbands birthday was the next day so I popped in to hopefully procure a cake. It's super chic and cute inside and there was not much of a wait at all. The biggest struggle for me was to choose a great flavor because there are so many to choose from! I ended up buying a tiramisu based on staff suggestions and it did not disappoint at all. My husband loved it and said it was the best tiramisu he's ever had. Needless to say it was a hit to say the least! 10/10 would recommend!!

Ellen C.

Yelp
This is the worst 85 degrees I've gone to. I've gone to locations in California and Taiwan and this is the slowest one. They don't have enough people servicing customers so it takes forever to even get a drink or if you just wanted pastries for someone to check you out. I hate coming here. It takes 20 min just to check out your bread and get a drink. Beverly to respond to your comment. Of all the 85 degrees locations I've gone to and I've gone to more than 10 locations. It's clear that whoever is managing this location does not have any operations experience. I've gone to stores much bigger than this one with larger inventory, as well as stores that are much smaller in Taiwan with smaller inventory that don't run out of bread. Clearly the store is understaffed and you cannot have the cashier also putting cakes into boxes and only one employee making drinks. You will always have a 20 min wait time for your customers. That is not the 85 degrees experience I've enjoyed in the past. This is also the third time I've visited this location and it's consistently a 20 min wait. There's a reason why this location only has 3.5 stars.

Janet N.

Yelp
Sign up for their app for great deals and rewards! Their app usually has some BOGO drink special and points are easy to rack up for free boba toppings or pastries. I just wish they had more locations. Their pastries are good for breakfast, lunch or just for snacking. My personal favorite are the sriracha sausage ones, pizza type ones, and then I throw in some sweet ones for a balanced snack. I also love their cakes, especially the mango one, and really look forward to one on special occasions.

Naoki E.

Yelp
On 12/12/33, I picked up a pre-paid Deluxe Strawberry Cream cake for a birthday, which was already boxed and ready to go. However, upon opening the box later in the evening the cake was actually a Chocolate Mousse. At this point it was too late to return to the bakery. I sent a customer service inquiry via the 85c App on 12/12/23 and still have not received a response. Safe to say this is the last time I'm getting a cake from here. Update: Customer service reached out shortly after this post and coordinated a refund.

Charlotte G.

Yelp
Delicious as always great boba and the pastry's are fresh and soft I rate this place a 10/10

Faye F.

Yelp
The customer service there is AS GOOD as the bakery items! Which is really saying something! The guy running the front Josh is always so helpful and in a cheery mood and has great suggestions. Love this location.

Faatima M.

Yelp
Absolutely love this bakery, out of all the locations this is my favorite! The bakery is always clean, stocked with an assortment of treats for any sweet tooth lover, like myself ;0) We purchased the cinnamon twist, berry tart and strawberry cream cake. My all time is the cinnamon twist! This delicious treat reminds me of a light flaky croissant with the right balance of cinnamon and sugar. The berry tart was full of berries cooked perfectly with a crisp on the round and a solid bottom, and the fam favorite is the strawberry cream cake! This little slice of heaven of earth taste exactly like a strawberry short cake, I love the light fluffy cream, with the mixes fresh strawberries and super light cake! If your ever in the area stop by and give yourself a treat and I saw a nail shop next door! Have to check them out too, while I have dessert! LOL..... Stay safe and health out there my friends and see you at my next bit *=*

Kim T.

Yelp
I enjoy coming here for a baked item and coffee. The breads are consistently tasty. The variety of breads is great. I have had the 85 degree coffee and sea salt caramel coffee. Both are comforting and tasty. I really like how I can adjust the sweetness by percentage when ordering. I don't like really sweet coffee drinks so that is helpful to me. All the staff members I have encountered have been friendly and helpful. The cakes in the case are just ok. I've tried many and they start to taste similar after awhile. They are good but I prefer cakes from other bakeries. The ambiance is ok. It's a little echoey if you are sitting at a table having a conversation. But there are just enough tables to have your own space, enjoy a treat and not feel rushed. I enjoy this bakery a lot.

Masil M.

Yelp
This is a great place with good layout so that you don't have to fight with a crowd. It's a good location because you can stop by after shopping nearby and there is plenty of parking. There are lots of pastries to choose from and something for everybody. Well, I don't know if they have gluten free or vegan stuff so maybe not for everybody. My umma prefers cakes from here because they are lighter, have a whipped frosting, and not as sweet as cakes from other places. The lines can get pretty long and the people who work here try their best to make things go quickly and smoothly, but if the person in front of you wants to take twenty minutes ordering, then that's the way it goes.

J P.

Yelp
Take your money somewhere else! Don't think they appreciate you as a customer! You can easily find better bakeries close by!

Kelly D.

Yelp
Received low quality customer service today. Ordered my food items and a beverage. Waited on the beverage for about 10minutes when it became clear others with higher numbers were getting theirs. Approached the person making the beverages and he would not respond. I asked another counter worker about my order and she seemed to check and then returned to say he was making mind now. Three more orders come out to people who came in after me. I finally get the guys response and he looks at my order and lies to me saying he made that awhile back and someone must have took it. I had been standing or sitting near the counter the whole time and they never called my number nor did he place an iced coffee out. The staff appear not to care

Karen M.

Yelp
I was really looking forward to going to 85° café. I have been there before and the food was excellent. I waited in my car for 15 minutes because they opened at nine. In my opinion they should've opened at seven. So I went through the line and I picked what looked super amazing and delicious. I got home and tore into the delicious food, when to my dismay, the inside of the cheese bread was raw! I called the store to inform them to a lackluster response of Oh sorry ,no come back tomorrow and we'll get you a new one, I'll check , I'll talk to the cooks. Nothing, the person who answered the phone could've cared less that they were serving raw food. I was really disappointed the other food was really good but I don't think I'll be in a hurry to go back there again.

Mark Y.

Yelp
Not like it used to be a few years ago, no cakes in the showcase and tasted terrible.

Andrea K.

Yelp
Dang I love these pastries! But this location has gone down the hill with their products. Low inventory and I've gotten a few underbaked items. Their drinks be fire tho. Too bad about their pastries.

Nancy J.

Yelp
Amazing taste for everything I have tried. I especially am fond of the garlic cheese bread, egg tart and pineapple cake. Very yummy.

Faatima M.

Yelp
Always super clean, lots of items stocked to choose from. Fast service and cheap bag charge, still want of our favorite bakery's to stop by when we are in the area. Keep up the good work!! stay safe and health out there! See you at my next bit ;0)

Kady S.

Yelp
85 is conveniently located in the shopping plaza next to H Mart within the same parking lot. This shop is a little smaller than their sister shop in south center. I say that because they have a smaller selection with baked goods. It was kind of underwhelming with the selection. They have cakes, pastries, baked goods, and a variety drink menu. I love their baked goods, they're yummmy!! A couple of my favorite treats are the Hawaiian chicken, jumbo guava cheese (sweet side) and cheese dog to name a few. When you enter the shop, you get a tray and you get through and pick out which pastry you would like to purchase. Then they box it it up for you! Also! You don't have to stand in line to order a drink. They conveniently have a kiosk you can order you drink from and skip the line, awesome!!! Their original 85 coffee is my favorite, you got to try it :)

Kakaro T.

Yelp
Great variety of FRESH BAKERY! Affordable price. My favorite is the chocolate chip bread and the egg tart. The restroom was still closed, staff said due to covid.

Hee H.

Yelp
If I can, I want to give 10stars. Whenever I visit Washington state, this is My MUST bakery spot. Their coffee taste and smell so good. Their bread are super-fresh and tasty, affordable, Recently they are undergoing staff shortage due to another surge of Omicron, so it's better go to this bakery early as 11-ish. I will miss 85 bakery as soon as I arrive NYC.

Laurie V.

Yelp
Had a order, paid online came to pick up on March 16th , sign on door closed until further notice call if cake order. They did not answer phone. This was for Auction. They did not call ahead to let me know. I am very angry. Federal way 85 degrees

Vasily K.

Yelp
Substance and style! One of the few places which make it difficult to add photos because it's hard to keep up with their new seasonal drink and food options. And coming from a chain, that's pretty damn bonkers! They make about 40 options for pastries and breads which are all delicious. The only reason you might not like something is if you don't like an ingredient. Savory hot dog buns, taro swirls? What's not to love. Also, they serve coffees and teas which I'm told are delicious. Some of which are packaged in bottles now so you can take them home! Super cool place!

Maksim M.

Yelp
Management come on hire more cashiers be professional, line is outside unbelievable, do your work

Brett S.

Yelp
This place is usually pretty good but today the food was cold and the drinks were SO slow. People working weren't very friendly either.

Vanessa T.

Yelp
I love 85 Bakery and will always go to one wherever I travel if they have one! I stopped by this location so I can grab some bread before my trip ended. This place didn't have a lot of items so it was pretty empty. I went to another location to grab the ones I needed.

Simon B.

Yelp
Fine goods bakery, lots to choose from ... little disappointed they do not have some gluten free items ... but I picked a Tiramisu and a Deluxe strawberry cream cake that looked awesome ....

Erik E.

Yelp
A unique bakery that has ALOT to offer! The baked goods are made all day long and restocked as necessary so you will always have literal fresh baked goods, whether your there early or late in the evening. The facilities are clean and the staff is courteous and efficient. I stopped in on a Friday because I had missed the original opening and had to try it. It was BUSY on a Friday night which is always a good thing. It means good food! The layout is smart: grab a tray and tongs, browse and pick various baked goods and proceed to the checkout. Everything is approximately $2 each so it's a good deal. In addition, they also sell a variety of drinks including teas, boba teas and coffees. Overall, two thumbs up for the variety, prices and service. Definitely would recommend stopping in to sample the baked goods.

Priscilla Y.

Yelp
I made a must visit stop here on a recent road trip to Portland and luckily enough, we came on 8/5 when everything is 15 percent off! I was like a kid in a candy store here and got almost every bread in sight. A must try is their taro marble (thanks internet) and the hype is very much worth it! Soft, fluffy and so tasty, this bread had a semi-sweet taro paste in the middle. Their chocolate bun looks disappointing when you first cut into it but one bite, and you get a nice flavour and chewy texture. The chocolate chip bowl is simple but actually very good! a giant bread studded with chocolate chips, I wasn't planning on getting this but ended up since i found out they throw away everything picked up and put back (that makes sense). The 85 Coffee bread had a strong coffee essence and a delicious mocha filling. The red bean is also not to sweet and again, the texture is wonderful! Last, I tried the taro swirl which was similar to the taro marble with a lighter bread but the same delicious filling. The star about the bread here is that it has all the soft qualities of asian breads that I know and love but the varieties are so different from home! We don't see a lot of chocolate bread and they have so many to choose from at reasonable prices! Overall, a must visit now in seattle!

Yelp
They have a nice variation of baked goods and pastries. Their pastries are pretty authentic Hong Kong/Taiwan desserts and cakes, however, they are pretty pricey. I feel I can get it at Great Wall Shopping Mall for cheaper, but they just don't have the variety at 85 does. I guess that is the trade off. Removing the price, the baked good are great and fresh. However, I think it is such a waste on those plastic baggies for each item. Other places just place the pastries in a box and that's good. The bags a little unnecessary option. They also have a nice variety of drinks. However, they're also pricey and small. They tables there have been constantly dirty and needs some cleaning.

Yelp
I absolutely loved my iced Brown Sugar Oat Milk Latte., and there were so many different kinds of coffee and tea drinks. Very flavorful. I was only there for a short meet-up with an acquaintance, so I didn't get any food, but I am definitely going back when I have more time. The food looked delicious and exotic. Can't wait to try some new culinary and beverage delights. Service was fast and friendly, Ambiance was so-so. But as I said, can't wait to go back and try some new things.
