Yelp
Located near the front right entrance at The Brook Casino, 9 Dragons opened very recently, which is a spin-off of the popular Kowloon in Saugus MA, serving Chinese and Asian Fusion cuisine.
The atmosphere here is modern with dim lighting. The cocktail lounge has a full service bar with seating, table seating, long booth back seating, arm chairs, couches, and cocktail tables and neon dragon lighting above. The dining room has table seating and booths with overhanging white paper umbrellas above and painted murals on the brick walls. The music playing over the speakers were plenty of popular tunes by cover artists.
I stopped by 9 Dragons for dinner recently. I took a seat up at the bar for prompt service. The bartender gave me a newspaper menu to look at and brought over an ice water. The bar had small portable lamps to read the menu. The menu is streamlined offering the popular dishes and food items from the Kowloon, plus a list of cocktails, mai tais, scorpion bowls, beer, sake, wine, and mocktails. The pricing is moderate high.
For Yelp purposes, I ordered a starter and 2 dishes including Egg Rolls (2) ($11 plus tax), Chicken Lo Mein ($14 plus tax) and 9 Dragons Tofu ($17 plus tax). My food came out together in about 10 minutes after ordering. The portions were family style, each dish enough to share for 2-3 people.
The 2 Egg Rolls were cut in half and filled with minced pork, shrimp. cabbage, celery and seasonings in a crispy fried wrap, duck sauce and Asian slaw on the side.
The 9 Dragons Tofu had a mix of shiitake mushroom, soft tofu, Doubanjiang chile, red bell pepper, black bean and scallion with a Sichuan-style chili ginger garlic sauce and a small bowl of white rice was provided. This dish was mild spicy and had savory flavors.
The Lo Mein dish had tender pieces of marinated chicken stir-fried with snow peas, onions, mushrooms, scallions, bean sprouts, water chestnuts, and soft noodles in soy sauce. This lo mein dish had good flavors, slightly salty.
I also requested boxes for the leftover food, which I enjoyed later on at home. I was given the check, which the price for the Egg Rolls was higher than the listed menu price. The manager took care of this and discounted my check.
Overall, I enjoyed a good and very filling "Kowloon" dinner, which I was actually hungry again in 3 hours, lol. The service at the bar was prompt and attentive. I will have to order the Saugus Wings with my meal on the next visit, which the customers next to me were raving about.
