Dumpling Daughter Delights at the Boston Public Library’s Map Room Lounge | Eater Boston

"A recently opened restaurant at the Brook casino in Seabrook, New Hampshire, created in partnership with a well-known Saugus Chinese spot to bring signature dishes like pork fried rice and wings tossed in a sweet garlic sauce, plus new plates; a connected cocktail lounge serves mai tais and other swanky drinks." - Nathan Tavares

The food is amazing! Be aware you may have to wait to get a table. They don’t open until later in the day (5p) and people usually get in line right around then. One time it was an hour wait….. It’s part of Kowloon and you can see the influence. We’ve been there a few times and have always been very happy with the food and drinks. Of course you have to get something in the cute glasses (Mai Tai, etc) The scallion pancakes are very crispy but a tad oily the night we got them. The night market chicken was amazing! It was so crispy and still juicy with the perfect seasoning. We definitely will be back when we go back to the Brook.

Google
Excellent! The appetizers were actually the star of the meal. (Everything was great, but these stood out). We had the boneless pork and Saugus wings. It doesn't sound like anything special, but the taste and presentation was awesome. The General Gau chicken was sticky and sweet- delicious! My dining partner had the lobster. It was huge and tasty, and she loved it. We have enough left over for two more full meals. Our wonderful server (I wish I remembered her name) told us that they are expanding their menu this week. I will definitely be going back to try new items.

Yelp
No reservations. So just walked in at 6pm and put my name on the list. Host said it's around 45 mnts (Saturday night) . Waited at the lounge Forbidden city and quite surprise with the mai tai. Better than what I expected. The Jin tiki is a a bit off balance, too much orgeat. I also got scorpion (for 2 people). Small tight drinks menu, good enough for me. Probably 30-45 mnts, host told me that table is ready. I just carried my scorpion mug (in a shape of bring good luck cat ) with me. Ordered chicken wing (Saugus style), 3 cup cod dish and also shrimp with lobster sauce. Chicken wing is good and tasty Unfortunately both of the main dish is too salty. 3 cup cod is so salty I just can't eat it without gulping water. Shrimp with lobster sauce also salty but less. The flavour is okay, it just the salt is too much. Service is great. I think the server is Rafaela.

Yelp
Invited back to 9 Dragons and glad to give this another try. Our server Angelica was great, and did everything possible to ensure a good dining experience. We had the Mai Tai's once again and thought they were very good. They also have a few new drink choices which looked very interesting. We noticed a change in the egg roll appetizer, they are large and are now offered single or double order. Happy to report that the egg rolls were crispy and what I was expecting as compared to our first visit. We also tried the scallion pancakes which were quite good, crispy and not oily as they might sometimes be. Solid win on the appetizers. We also tried the short rib dinner, and while pricey ($40+), was quite delicious. Tender fall off the bone meat, with a sweet sauce. We thought this dish was a hit. Roast pork fried rice was also very good. We were worried when it arrived as it was very dark in color, usually an indicator that it will be overly salty, but it was not. In fact, it was seasoned perfectly. Again, the room is beautiful and is certainly worth a stop if you are in the area. The menu is a bit limited at this time, but I think they are focusing on nailing the dishes consistently before expanding. We were delighted that we had a much better experience on our second visit, and look forward to trying them again.

Yelp
We arrived at 5pm on a Friday and there was plenty of seating. The host was friendly, and Rafaela, our server, was attentive. We sat in an intimate semicircle booth. The ambiance is mind-blowing, the art is gorgeous, nothing like this can be found elsewhere in the Seabrook area. We ordered a Mai Tai ($13) and it was made perfectly and was quite potent. Two of ththose knocked me on my ass. The food was average. My Vietnamese Steak was overdone and the portion was tiny for the price. The $6 side of rice was dry. The wonderful manager stopped by and confconfirmed that the steak wasn't up to standard and discounted our check. I would return only if I had a good night at the casino. Otherwise, there are better value options in the area. However, I highly recommend The Lounge. It's cozy and intimate. Enjoy!

Yelp
Great decor, really enjoyed being in the space. Very well done. Money spent. Only problem was the should have spent on a Chef too. Food not impressive, could have been a great place.

Yelp
9 Dragons is located inside the Brook casino. The decor is pleasant as was our hostess. We arrived after five on a Thursday night and it was somewhat busy. Our waitress was prompt and took our drink order. Husband had a ginger ale and I ordered their Mai Tai. Mai Tai arrived in a slim frosted glass with a beautiful flower. I found this drink a little too sweet. We ordered boneless spare ribs, fried chicken with a sweet chilli dipping sauce and the house fried rice. Ribs seemed to be of poor quality, very fatty in parts and the meat itself was hard to chew. The chicken was not fried correctly. It's was very doughy and not crisp at all. The fried rice was excellent! Cooked perfectly with plenty of shrimp, meat and vegetables. Overall, I expected the food to be much better. Maybe it was an off night but I don't think I would return.

Yelp
This is now officially my go to Chinese spot!! I loved everything about it, from the second you walked through the casino you could tell it was going be a great experience. Went around 6 pm on a Friday night and we were able to get a table without having to wait. The service. Shoutout to Cristina her knowledge, warmth, jokes, and smile made our experience unforgettable. From stunning LED art to the vibrant decor, every detail designed left me in wow. I give the you 9 Dragons in seabrook, New Hampshire What we got: Dragon of the year A classic Mai Tai, elevated. Captain Morgan White Rum and Smith & Cross Jamaican Rum, lime, Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao, orgeat, and fresh mint. Mikan Agave Tequila, tangerine, and yuzu with a touch of agave. chicken wings / chicken fingers / boneless spareribs / crab Rangoon / pork fried rice

Yelp
We heard about 9 dragons on the radio and my husband and I had a great laugh since we didn't expect the food to be any good. We had been to Kowloon years ago, and the food was so so. I googled 9 dragons and out popped some gorgeous photos of the place. My husband remembered the space as the old racetrack and was curious as well. This weekend we stopped in to dine and was blown away by the decor. This is a gorgeous restaurant. Lovely photos of Chinese movie stars and an ongoing video of an old film. Neon signage. It is pure Hong Kong inspired nostalgia. The menu carries crowd favorites such as General Gaos chicken- light not greasy delicious, the boneless ribs-or char siu in Chinese served with a fresh made mango salsa and a crispy scallion pancake . Food was very good and prices very reasonable for the quantity and quality. And the service here was wonderful.

Yelp
Located near the front right entrance at The Brook Casino, 9 Dragons opened very recently, which is a spin-off of the popular Kowloon in Saugus MA, serving Chinese and Asian Fusion cuisine. The atmosphere here is modern with dim lighting. The cocktail lounge has a full service bar with seating, table seating, long booth back seating, arm chairs, couches, and cocktail tables and neon dragon lighting above. The dining room has table seating and booths with overhanging white paper umbrellas above and painted murals on the brick walls. The music playing over the speakers were plenty of popular tunes by cover artists. I stopped by 9 Dragons for dinner recently. I took a seat up at the bar for prompt service. The bartender gave me a newspaper menu to look at and brought over an ice water. The bar had small portable lamps to read the menu. The menu is streamlined offering the popular dishes and food items from the Kowloon, plus a list of cocktails, mai tais, scorpion bowls, beer, sake, wine, and mocktails. The pricing is moderate high. For Yelp purposes, I ordered a starter and 2 dishes including Egg Rolls (2) ($11 plus tax), Chicken Lo Mein ($14 plus tax) and 9 Dragons Tofu ($17 plus tax). My food came out together in about 10 minutes after ordering. The portions were family style, each dish enough to share for 2-3 people. The 2 Egg Rolls were cut in half and filled with minced pork, shrimp. cabbage, celery and seasonings in a crispy fried wrap, duck sauce and Asian slaw on the side. The 9 Dragons Tofu had a mix of shiitake mushroom, soft tofu, Doubanjiang chile, red bell pepper, black bean and scallion with a Sichuan-style chili ginger garlic sauce and a small bowl of white rice was provided. This dish was mild spicy and had savory flavors. The Lo Mein dish had tender pieces of marinated chicken stir-fried with snow peas, onions, mushrooms, scallions, bean sprouts, water chestnuts, and soft noodles in soy sauce. This lo mein dish had good flavors, slightly salty. I also requested boxes for the leftover food, which I enjoyed later on at home. I was given the check, which the price for the Egg Rolls was higher than the listed menu price. The manager took care of this and discounted my check. Overall, I enjoyed a good and very filling "Kowloon" dinner, which I was actually hungry again in 3 hours, lol. The service at the bar was prompt and attentive. I will have to order the Saugus Wings with my meal on the next visit, which the customers next to me were raving about.

Yelp
tOur third visit, sat at the bar, prompt friendly service for cocktails, we waited a bit to order to enjoy the atmosphere! Ordered, crab rangoon, ribs, fried rice and an egg roll. Everything was so very tasty, egg roll is my favorite in the area. As stated, everything was tasty, but all dishes where not up to temperature, Luke warm, so disappointing, once food was received, service was non-existent, no offer for another drink, more water, we where clearly done eating and waiting for boxes for leftovers and sat for far too long. A little tweaking needed in the service area and next time, there will be a next time, we will make sure the food is up to temp before digging in.

Yelp
They're comparing 9 Dragons to Kowloon in Saugus, MA. 9 Dragons is nothing like Kowloons. This new restaurant is very good on its own. However, their menu is incredibly small with limited choices. What we ordered was very good with a great presentation. Our server did a great job. The place is nicely decorated and very comfortable. If go there thinking its Kowloon's twin, you'll be disappointed. Go there to try a new Chinese restaurant. It is on the pricey side. Dinner for 2 with no cocktails, was just under $100. Bon Appétit!!!

Yelp
Been there twice. Both times on the weekend, it was about an 1 1/2 hour wait for a group of 5-6 people but of course you can spend time in the casino so it goes by quick. Rather if you eat in the main dining room or the lounge (forbidden city), you are in awe with the Vegas quality decor. Menu is mostly a La carte so it's good to share items between family or friends. You will spend more money here compared with a take out only place but it's worth it as the food does not suck and has good flavor. Drinks taste top shelf. The Brook and Kowloon has hit a home run with this place. I would rather spend $$$$ at 9 Dragons and have an awesome meal rather than lose money on the slots :)

Yelp
Ambiance in bar-amazing dragon on ceiling Service-very good Food- Crab Rangoon-ok Chicken wings-yummy Beef lo Mein-good Chicken fingers-ok Not bad if you're at the casino but not worth going just for food. On the pricey side because they are in casino

Yelp
Limited menu and small portions and overpriced but convenient since you're in Seabrook, NH.

Yelp
Appetizers were excellent. The chicken lo mein was outstanding! Give wait staff member Hannah a raise!

Yelp
Wonderful dinner tonight at 9 Dragons - Andre is a fantastic host and is passionate about the customer experience! We were offered a tour of the restaurant, and seated in the lounge - a perfect place to take in the swanky vibes that make this place unique. Everything is so clean, and the staff is on point. We had mai-tais and a few appetizers (Andre is right about the Saugus wings) and then ordered a few entrees and a couple additional snacks. The food was presented extremely well, and everything tasted fresh, hot, and well executed. Steve, our server, was outstanding as was everyone we interacted with. Listen - if you like elevated Chinese food, and you're within an hour drive - put this place on your list! We will 100% be back!

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Service was great. Food was ok. Overuse of soy & msg. Big portions but skimpy on protein. Overall I would say it's just ok. Fun vibe tho! Example- chopped Chinese salad was full leafs of soft bib lettuce. Not as advertised and not crunchy so a bit of a disappointment. Pork fried rice swimming in soy sauce soup.

Arnie J.

Yelp
Holy S*** Sitting at a table with seven others. 3 drinks into our bar bill, apps are ordered. Restaurant staff "Andre" comes in a says we need these tables for the owners cousin! First time last time. Hope you spend a lot on advertising because I will tell everyone I know how much your staff is in incompetent. I will never be back.

Yelp
I ate here on a Friday afternoon, waiting 40 minutes for them to open. We were a party of 3, and we split appetizers, an entree, and pork fried rice. The pork BBQ boneless ribs were tough and fatty, when we brought it up to our waitress, she had the manager comp it. The rest of the food was just ok. We were disappointed that at this price point it was sub par.

Q K.

Yelp
If you want ambiance, this place has that in spades. The walls paintings on them throughout and the atmosphere is played up. The music playing was a mix of jazz and bossa nova. It was definitely very evocative gave very sensual vibes. The service was mostly average. My server was very helpful and came to make sure everything was good. As far a the food goes, that's where things start to deviate. I ordered the red braised short ribs, which are priced at $50. A hefty price for two short ribs, and also ordered since white rice. It came to my table presented well. The rice was bone dry. While the short ribs were tender, the sauce left something to be desired. Very one note. It was almost like a sweet hoisin sauce. It was not something I would have paid $50 for. I also ordered tea, and it was brewed very strong. The server was very kind and removed the rice from my bill when I explained the rice was so dry. But, for such a short menu I would expect everything to be on point.

Yelp
The restaurant decor was very nice. The service was good. The menu was somewhat limited. We ordered crab Rangoon, pork fried rice, and 9 Dragon's ribeye. The crab Rangoon and pork fried rice was excellent. The $35.00 Nine Dragon's ribeye was fatty, over seasoned and the serving size was very small. If I go again, I know not to order this. The three items with two sodas came to $77.01 without tip.

Dawn T.

Yelp
Ambiance is great, sexy vibes, music... have gone a couple times. Limited menu, would love some additional added items for a little bit more variety. Sat at the bar last night, Friday 730-830' window. In the past fantastic service, not this time. Many staffers behind the bar working or there to talk it seemed and two bartenders with a half empty row of seats. We sat for a long time, other people being checked on and new people being served... we had to ask to put in drinks after a ridiculous amount of time. Also witness the blonde bartender ask an older gentleman to move to the other end of the bar so her friends could sit there. He politely declined, she pushed again. It was definitely out of line to be pushy about it. Actually felt bad for him because then we had over heard her talking about him in a horrible way just because he didn't want to sit at the end by the busy staff entrance to the bar. Keep it professional, less talking and do a better job at servicing. More importantly, don't gossip with coworkers and definitely don't talk bad about other patrons within an earshot.

Lynne R.

Yelp
Went to the casino, ended up in 9 Dragons. It was my 50th Birthday weekend. Staff were absolutely amazing. Visiting from Scotland we had so much fun. No cat was harmed in the visit lol

Yelp
good is great but on apps portions are small service had been great every time i been there or got take out and the place its self is amazing

Yelp
Food was pretty good but the ambiance (decor to music) is definitely top notch. Just beautiful! We also love our server too. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
We've had a couple of very nice experiences there. Service was very good. Menu is fairly limited, I'm sure for a reason. Overall food is as expected but nothing that wows. My husband had won a $100 hot seat so we had a little extra cash to splurge on lunch. I decided to get the Enter the Lobster entree. It tasted ok but the presentation had a bit to be desired. The dish looked pretty but I had no idea most of the meat was going to be in the shell, based on the menu description . Now I'm pretty experienced at shucking lobster but try pulling out lobster meat with a sticky sauce coating the shell. (It was a good size lobster that was perhaps ready to molt so the meat was really stuck in there). The sticky sauce was a tanish color which hid bits of shell (the lobster was cut into pieces) and cartilage. Between that and the low light I actually had to spit out a couple of mouthfuls. Because of the sticky sauce you really couldn't clean out the lobster.....lots of good meat went to waste. Why the un-edible parts of the underside of the lobster were on the plate I don't know. The description was "lightly breaded". I couldn't figure out where the breading was....except I think I saw it on the underside parts which were meatless. Live and learn. I should have asked more about the dish before ordering. The description on the menu needs to be worked on. Basically it was a mess to eat and a lot of it was wasted. Needed wet wipes which I was offered a bowl full. We'll be back but I won't get this messy hard to eat dish again. I would have been much more disappointed if this meal hadn't been on the Brook hot seat win.

Yelp
We had the pleasure of dining at the 9 dragons restaurant inside the Brook Casino. The food was delicious the decor stunning. Our server Cristina personable and funny. Good luck

Yelp
First meal ever at 9 Dragons on Friday Dec 27. Hostess seated us right away. Great food and service. Menu is user-friendly, as they say. Server Hannah was the greatest. Love her personality and she is very efficient. No waiting for anything !! Will be back soon. Ambiance was great as well. Wayne E.

Yelp
My wife & I live in Hampton Falls, NH and went to dinner at the 9 Dragons at the Brook in Seabrook NH. The service was great ( Angelica) very helpful and friendly. The food was great, and the Ambiance was beautiful. Yes, we will be going back very soon, one more thing the prices were very fair. Geno & Pam Hampton Falls, NH 5 star rating

Yelp
We went to the 9 Dragons last night about 8:30 it was delicious. The girl that waited on us was great the hostess was extremely pleasant. We can't wait to go back great value for your money.

Apocalyptic A.

Yelp
The only truly good thing about our visit to 9 dragons was Gwen our server. The only food that tasted really good was the braised short ribs, but only 2 in the entree and for over $40 was absolutely ridiculous. The scorpion bowl was disgusting, apparently they change to their unique recipe (uniquely dreadful), the boneless pork ribs were flavorless and the consistency of shoe leather. The egg rolls tasted sour and the General Gau disappointing as well. And after waiting for over 2 hours, on our anniversary, i was so angry. Thank you to Gwen for her kindness and cheerful disposition. She was the only good thing there. Each hostess (one host) we encountered was impersonal, cold and seemed irritated at our presence. Never again. Such a let down. Kowloons should be ashamed.

Mike B.

Yelp
Tried it last Saturday. There was a Two hour wait. Thank goodness it's in a casino which helped us pass time. If we thought about it we could have waited in the lounge. Great looking place. The food was very good and our waitress was excellent. The only thing I wish they had on the menu was a pu pu platter which the original Kowloon's has.

Ann-Marie C.

Yelp
Went here today for Lunch as Christmas gift with our Neighbors ! Food was 5 stars, Our Server, Cristina was Excellent, Very Professional , and We Totally enjoyed Her Service. T Ann-Marie C.his was our 2nd time eating here, and We kNOW WE WILL CERTAINLY Be Back Again, and Often !! Ann-Marie C.

Yelp
We've been twice and really enjoyed the food and the ambiance. Our last visit, hubby and I were seated at a corner table with a cozy banquet. Very romantic! We ordered sweet and sour chicken,General Gau chicken and the signature fried rice. We had enough food for that night and 2 more meals! We strongly recommend the Signature fried rice, loaded with pieces of pork, ham, shrimp and peas - delicious!

Steph M.

Yelp
The ambiance of the restaurant is excellent. We sat at the bar so we could order a few appetizers. We ordered the boneless spare ribs and egg rolls. They were both excellent! If you like the kind of egg rolls that have chopped up pork in them it's a must try! The bartenders offered excellent customer service. Do not come here looking for Kow Loons menu it is not their menu however they do have a few of their signature items on it. There isn't a lot of seating where you can order food so there could be a wait.

Shivon D.

Yelp
Love this restaurant. Food and service were excellent. Everything is freshly made, and presentation is spot on. As with any new opening, it takes a bit for everything to fall into place and for the staff to learn their way around. I have been twice and had the same waitress both times, of course I cannot remember her name, but she was very informative and friendly. Yes, the menu is condensed but all my Kowloon favorites are on there, so I am happy. I found the prices very reasonable. Looking forward to them offering takeout soon.

Margaret D.

Yelp
Very clean and food was delicious! Much better than Saugus location. Wait staff very attentive. Very cool ambiance.

Tamara V.

Yelp
It was my first time here at this casino and restaurant to celebrate my birthday. However, it fell really short! First let me start off my by saying the staff behind the bar really lack customer service, the attitude they gave off was just unacceptable and very uncomfortable. I ordered a white mai tai and it was the worst one I've ever drank. My first sip was a mouthful of thick sweet liquid almost as if it was not shaken properly or if at all. I asked what was in it and they told me orgeat syrup. The drink was too strong you could barely drink it and just overly sweet. Another bartender OFFERED to make me another drink and I accepted. However she didn't remove the first drink that I only had taken one sip of off the bill. Why offer another drink because the first one was bad and not remove it off the bill? I asked her why didn't she remove it and she stared at me blank faced and said I guess I can take it off(with an attitude), I then told her well you offered to make me a new drink because I didn't like the last one and I never drank it, so common sense would be to remove the drink off the bill. I've never had a bartender offer to make me a new drink and not toss out the old one...I told her that's fine I'll pay for it even though I never drank it and she overheard my conversation with my partner complaining about the service and then said I'll take it off the bill, again with an attitude...she then called her manager over to remove it. NO apologies no proper customer service just horrible attitude and mumbling behind the bar because I wasn't satisfied with my drink/meal. I ordered the Saugus wings the flavor was great but the skin was so tough to get through very rubbery/ so I ordered chicken fingers and when I say it came out in under 2 minutes I am not lying or exaggerating. We immediately wanted to send it back but the manager claimed it was fresh(it was not) but I was hungry so I ate it. She said if we didn't like it we could send it back but again at this point I was over this entire establishment. I will say the chicken was most certainly already cooked and ready to go out it was not hot or fresh at all. it was luke warm to the touch/dry and hard. And even the bartender agreed it came out too quickly. very unacceptable to serve already prepared food. But kowloons in Saugus is quite like this as well!! she claimed they were cooked to order.. they were NOT. Nobody likes cold hard chicken fingers! Overall this was the worst part of my birthday celebration. The veggie lo mein was the best lo mein I have eaten in a long time so that was the only plus. I did tip 20% even though they really did not deserve it. Had the customer service been great I would of looked past the food and drinks... but the customer service being so bad forced me to leave this review... had they of been polite and smiled and just said "I'm so sorry for the service you have had tonight let me make this right" then I would have felt better but they didn't... I would not recommend this place to anyone and I frequent restaurants often. The customer service alone was enough for me to not come back! The manager was polite but the bartenders were the worst ones I've ever encountered. They should think about getting new jobs. They also had no clue who they were serving food too , they sent out wrong orders to multiple people and looked very lost. The Staff needs training and a lesson in customer service! Stop sending out prepared food to customers. If I want prepared food I would go to a buffet not a restaurant that's supposed to be top of the line. Losing a customer is bad for business, this place will be closed down soon if it keeps running this way.

Rickey B.

Yelp
Friday Sept. 20 the place was crowded and had to park way out and thought we would not get a seat in the restaurant but just a 30 min wait. Plates were the size of a saucer, maybe to make the food on the plate look like a lot. Servings were smaller than most Chinese restaurants. Selections were limited. We ordered pork fried rice, chicken fingers,LoMein, and crab rangoon. I don.t think they have a fry-0-lator as both chicken fingers and crab rangoon were oven fried. Actually the chicken fingers were the best as they were not all batter and the chicken was moist.the Crab Rangoon was tough and not crispy, lots of filling. Fried rice was good with strong pieces of onion and Lo Mein with vegetables was good but both dishes were smallish. We didn't have any alcohol drinks, most at a traditional Chinese Restaurant were not on the menu. service was ok, no better than any other restaurant..price was high for the amount that was served.
