"This cozy spot in the Vista serves traditional Korean dishes with a few surprises. It also has a full bar with an impressive cocktail menu. Samgyupsal (grilled pork belly served with lettuce for wrapping and 929’s signature sauces for dipping) is a standout, as is the seafood bibimbap served in a hot stone bowl. 929 is a treat any day of the week, but particularly delightful on Sunday evenings when many of Columbia’s better restaurants are closed. Owner Sean Kim is opening a second spot this fall, MOA Korean BBQ, on Main Street." - Anne Wolfe Postic

Fun place. Great NA cocktails. Loved the k-wings, crispy and delicious. Could’ve added more kick but assume locals don’t want things too spicy. The noodle dishes were awesome. Great spot!

Google
Fancy Korean Fare. The only one I've found with Pork Belly on the menu. It's an elevated atmosphere and elegant bar. But there's always a But when a perfect star rating is missing a star... When I travel the culinary world I want to feel I'm dining in a foreign country. I've tried holes in the wall mom and pop establishments and they all played American radio!!

My husband and I love 929! We are returning customers! My husband is a picky eater, but willing to try new dishes that are now some his favorites! We ordered pork belly and udon curry. The waitress was very friendly. We had a great lunch date! Thank you for the amazing experience!

Google
The Korean food here was absolutely fantastic! The flavors were outstanding, and I genuinely loved every bite. It's safe to say I'll be coming back for more of that wonderful taste.

Went on a Wednesday for lunch. From our group of five not everyone was familiar with Korean food, but we were all able to order something we really enjoyed. Overall we were very impressed. Before we even finished our meals we were already planning on when we should eat here again. Also, we ordered the fish pastries and we all got a kick out of the presentation (in a fish bowl with candy rocks, how cute!)

Google
I came here with my boyfriend for his 21st birthday and it was the best experience and food I have had in columbia. We ordered the nacho app, bibimbap and udon noodles and they were all AMAZING. The food had my mouth watering with how good it tasted. It came out of the kitchen within 10 or so minutes of ordering. We also got 2 drinks which were also incredible- along with the lemon cake. It is beautiful and clean inside and the service was amazing (shoutout to our server Gavin). He gave us recommendations and was very personable. I will be coming back to try the entire menu.

Google
Excellent cocktail selection, and the food was good, but the bibimbap was a bit of a miss (and that dish is why we came in). Let’s start with the highlights. I had the Golden lantern cocktail, and it was excellent. Well balanced and beautiful. I love that yuzu is entering the cocktail scene. My husband’s drink was good as well. We are huge bibimbap fans, and I ordered an extra egg, because I love it when the egg cooks on the heat of the clay pot. And I love it when the rice crisps up on the clay pot. But neither happened. Perhaps I’ve had a different type of bibimbap, but the rice did not get crispy at all. And the egg didn’t crisp up. The pot was just not hot enough. He also forgot my extra eggs, but he did come by with them later. The seafood was good, but overall it was just a bit underwhelming. I’m also accustomed to this dish being served with lots of little vegetable side dishes, including kimchi and potatoes and a variety of six or seven other vegetables in little dishes to mix in the pot. It did not come with those. So I guess this is just a different way of presenting bibimbap? But I have never had it served without all the little veggies and without it being served in a really scorching hot pot. The server was nice. Even though the place was packed, they came to us fairly quickly. The bar was a little backed up, but not too bad. Overall it was a nice place, and I would return, but I would not order the bibimbap. The rest of the menu looks so intriguing that I would absolutely return to try other things.

Yelp
Returned to have lunch here on a ride and found this place to remain being a TEN...! Food once again was excellent Speaking to staff I understand will be closing for a month or so to change up menu offerings and inside decor... With my hx, can only hope remains the same or better....!!!!

Yelp
This is NOT like any Korean food I've ever had. All of the rice and noodle bowls were incredibly dry so better save your Japanese miso they give you in the beginning to add into it. The waitress said there's no sauce add ons, no kimchi sides, no sides at all besides white rice. Was one of the most unprepared servers I've ever encountered. Genuinely I don't understand how this place parades itself around as Korean with the dry undercooked Japchae I was served and the lack of radish and Napa cabbage in the kimchi fried rice. I was with my friends in a party of 4. Notably the tables are incredibly close together making it not a plus size friendly environment if that were to apply to you. (I think anyone over 200 pounds would struggle to get their chair pulled out far enough to sit at table.) I would not recommend this business. The ambiance is nonexistent. You're better off going to get takeout from your local oriental restaurant or a market and trying to recreate Korean dishes on your own.

Yelp
Imagine you bought some of those super cheap ramen noodles at Walmart, cooked them for lunch, didn't eat them but left them sitting out all day, and finally microwaved them for dinner. That's essentially what my dinner tasted like. I really take no joy in posting such a terrible review but, oh boy, was this bad. Not only were the noodles in my japchae really bad, it's basically all there was. After trying a few bites I scooped all the noodles into a bowl. What was left in terms of meat and other ingredients was less than you'd expect in an appetizer. I was, not surprisingly, still very hungry so I ordered some wings. Not exactly what I came to a Korean restaurant for but I couldn't risk another dish with noodles. (My wife's noodles were also not good -- admittedly not as bad as mine but not very good either.) I can't comment on the wings because they never came. The waiter kept coming back to say they were on the way but they never arrived. So I paid the bill and went to McDonald's and got a chicken sandwich. (I needed something quick because we were headed to the Koger Center for a show and I didn't want to sit there super hungry.) That $7.49 at McDonald's gave me a better meal than the $100 I wasted at 929. There's more I could say but it'd seem like I'm just piling on.

Yelp
Great food excellent experience once again. Its been a while since we visited. The service is always excellent and the food is always hot and fresh.New menu options are ok the stir fry is on the late night menu which was one of the best dishes on the menu.Tried the spicy chicken and vegetables (Bul-DAK) again great dish super spicy,if you like cheese this is the dish. You can order it with or without cheese.Keep in mind this dish comes with crispy rice if order this dish so the rice is not hard, that's how it comes. They have regular steamed white rice you can request.Overall the experience was great just wish the stir fry was back on the regular menu.

Pete A.

Yelp
Food was amazing, hot fresh and all the flavors went well together. Service impeccable. Trey went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and well taken care of. Ambiance was cool and hip. Great date spot!

Kat T.

Yelp
My second time here and it's amazing every time! It's so cute in here and everyone is super nice and helpful. Got the white Ferrari for my cocktail and it was super good so refreshing. 10/10 For appetizers we got the kimchi cheese fries. Definitely recommend! It's super good. It's not too spicy either. 10/10 I got the tofu japchae if was delicious! The tofu was nice and crispy. The noodles are so flavorful. My second time coming back I added seafood to it and it was warm this time. Both ways were good 10/10

Bakita H.

Yelp
Fried Wok Yaki Udon with Tofu was delicious! Customer service was good when we picked the food up too.

David C.

Yelp
Date night Korean food on the Vista, yes please! The Grill Galbi is one of the best Asian inspired dishes I've ever had. It's a fully modular meal served you sizzling in a skillet with dipping sauces and salad. The ambiance is wonderful with vintage brick and wood accents and a full bar. The staff is good and they seem to all like the food they serve. I really dig this place and will be back. Also it's date night approved.

Yelp
In town for the Masters and decided to stay a little farther away from Augusta to save some money....We landed in Columbia, SC! Glad we did! 929 Kitchen and Bar was delish! From the moment we walked in we knew we were in for a treat! It smelled amazing! It was a Sunday evening and we were prepared to wait a little bit but only had to wait a couple minutes for them to clear a table for us! We ordered drinks to start; two Sapporos, another beer, and Mood Swing! my drink was brought to the table a purple color and when you add the lemon liquor it turns a pink color. It was very neat, perfect name.... MOOD SWING! We ordered the Kimchi Bulgogi Nachos and the Seaweed Salad! Both were very good! For dinner the table ordered the Beef Bulgogi Stir Fry, Spicy Bulgogi Stir, Bulgogi Wok Fried Yaki Udon, and Spicy Squid and Pork Belly Stir Fry! Everyone at our table enjoyed their meal! Everything was so delish! Most def recommend!

Yelp
The new look has been in effect for about a month, and I am sad to report that the great bar/vibe is gone, reduced to 4 back facing seats. I tried to sit there but even then , the bar was stacked against me with supplies for the bartender...on the other side. The new menu still has great udon and, importantly, a tofu protein option still on many dishes. I'll be back, but...it didn't hafta be this way.

Robert P.

Yelp
Came in from out of town over the weekend. Saw this on Google and tried it. It is a nice intimate location inside. Our waitress was excellent and knew the instructions and outs of the menu. Guiding us to an excellent meal and an unforgettable experience. If you like spicy food and excellent desserts this is the place to go while in town!

Sami L.

Yelp
This place is a gem! Stopped in from a quick Yelp search, and it exceeded my expectation. Great flavor in the dishes, fast service, and full menu. The place is clean, full of college kids having a decent meal with their families or peers. I highly recommend the kimchi fries and the wok fried noodles. I could order the noodles a million times over and still not be disappointed!

Kamesha A.

Yelp
Love the ambience.....can be a bit loud. The BEST bulgogi in town. Amazing wings too! Just go! It's great.

Tracy H.

Yelp
The vibe here is cool. I love the ambiance. The lighting, music, even the furniture. The service was great. We were greeted quickly and seated quickly. The kitchen was closing in 15 minutes so we quickly put in our order. And the food was delicious. The mandoo, wings (spicy and mild) , truffle fries , and yuzu cake. I wish we lived closer. We would definitely come back to try more items on their menu.

Amy F.

Yelp
This place is phenomenal! Great location, excellent staff, and a fantastic menu. 10/10!

Jamika H.

Yelp
First time eating from this restaurant and very impressed! We grabbed our order to go. Nice menu selection. Located in a very nice and clean area. It has roadside parking but we had to park and walk a little bit, less than a block to get to it. Hostess was very nice and helpful. Food arrived quickly. Can I just say.... Packaged nicely and carefully, truffle fries and wings were magnificent!! Must come back to try more items. Soy and garlic flavors are impeccable!!!!! Ate too quickly to take pics like we usually would; ooops ;)

Anand V.

Yelp
Not a bad place to eat. The kimchi was good and my noodle curry bowl was yummy. My hubby had a rice dish that missed the mark, but overall the food was good. The ambience was perfect.

Jose Z.

Yelp
We came here looking for a good place to eat dinner with our kids. This place had really good reviews so we tried it out. It is a relatively small restaurant as far as the seating area but we sat comfortably for a family of four (w/two kids under 10) We came and were seated immediately. Friendly waitress. It's a very relaxed and casual environment. My wife mentioned the chairs were really comfortable because she hates flat hard chairs but these chairs had a nice modern look with padded leather upholstery. We started with the deep fried beef and vegetable dumplings and our kids loved them as well. I had the 10 fried wings half hot chili and half soy garlic sauce with truffle fries. The wings and sauce they were cooked in were really good but I typically prefer them a little more crispy. The fries were delicious. My kids loved the miso soup. We also thought the miso soup was probably one of the best we have tasted in a while, it had a very rich flavor. Over all we had a great experience and would definitely recommend!

Roger R.

Yelp
What a great meal!! This place is excellent, the food is top notch and great portions for the price. Service is very good and very the ambiance is really cute. This is definitely a come back to place for us. Parking sucks but that's Columbia...

Demitri L.

Yelp
My all time favorite place in Columbia! Matt is a fantastic manager, who creates a phenomenal staff to cater to your needs, as well as providing amazing Korean food that is delicious and amazing. The atmosphere is always amazing here!

Sol H.

Yelp
A nice quaint restaurant tucked in the middle of downtown. The staff were very nice and accommodating. However, the point of this review is the food. Each dish was great and had its own flair. Definitely recommend trying

Charlie Mayne E.

Yelp
Nice restaurant. The food was great. We'll be back and definitely be trying something else because everything looked so great! Our food: -Tteokbokki -Chicken Bulgogi Stir Fry -Jjambong -Spicy Squid & Pork Belly Stir Fry -Hotteok with Vanilla Ice Cream -Passion Fruit Drink

Octavio A.

Yelp
Really good food, great places to eat with family or friends. Servers are very attentive as well

Tarhy A.

Yelp
This establishment looked different from everywhere else that you can possibly eat in town so we had to try it. Let me tell ya we are happy that we did. The Spicy Pork Bibimbap was fresh, light, healthy, and tasty. A perfect dish really. My Spicy Pork Cream Curry Udon was so rich in umami flavor. Thought it was going to be a super heavy dish since it's cream based but surprisingly it's light. The noodles are perfect texture. Not sure where they are sourcing these or if they make them in house but I loved it. The atmosphere is super cool and our server was knowledgeable and very nice. When I'm in town visiting I definitely want to come back here and try more menu items. Till next time.....

Sherrell L.

Yelp
My review is the same however I was unable To upload my previous video so I wanted to add it

Yelp
We had a party of 7 at 9:00 pm on Saturday, 8/27/22. We were seated right away. Service was suuuuper quick - we were in and out in 40 minutes! I believe our waitress's name was Bayle and she was great! There is street parking. The inside is really cool and rustic. You can dress up or dress casually. They have beer, sake, wine, and cocktails. Here's what I tried: - Side Dish Trio (AKA BanChan) ($4): Very good! Loved the different kimchi! - Mandoo (5 pieces) ($7): Delicious! - Beef Bulgogi Bibimbap ($16): Suuuper good. If you don't do spice, just don't get the spicy gojuchang sauce. Came with miso soup, which was delicious! - Chicken Bulgogi Japchae ($15): The clear sweet potato starch noodles were so good! I personally liked the bibimbap better because it came with more. But my sister preferred this the Japchae. Came with miso soup. Sooo good! Very reasonably priced! Great service! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Spot is super cute and modern. We ordered a mango margarita and Toki and lemonade. Her drink was good. Mine enh. Just okay. Had better at home. Toki was $15. A bottle is $30ish. That markup was extreme af. The bar was very upscale. Nice selections of Japanese whiskeys, whiskeys and tequilas. We had already gotten brunch. So after light shopping at APB we stopped here and got chicken wings (10 pc.) with the truffle fries. ($18). Such a disappointment. You have to pay extra to get hot chilli amd soy garlic. It takes the same amount of time to sauce either wing. Why the upcharge? I wrongly assumed the "wings" would be flats. That was my mistake. But two flats was terrible. So I had one of each. The don't allow you to pay an upcharge for all flats either. ‍‍‍ The restuarant was slow af. Why are yall par-frying wings? Par-frying should be reserved for spots that are BUSSIN. In and out to cut down cook time. Not people trying to cut corners. But this made the wings come out dry and they tasted old. I liked thbe soy garlic sauce. The hot chilli was tasty but they used too much. Wayyyyy too much sauce. The truffle fries didnt "truffle enough" for my spouse. They were OKAY to me. A little above average. They almost taste like beer-battered fries. Overall. It's not it. Overpriced. For the price and simplicity of what we ordered the expectation was much higher. Can't even imagine ordering more complex Korean dishes.

Jenn K.

Yelp
I really just can't get enough of this place.... One of my favorite places with all my fav dishes. I love a "spicy red seafood noodle soup for two"

Julie S.

Yelp
MY GO TO VISITING SOUTH CAROLINA. Being from southern california it's hard to find korean that can be beat but this is one of the best resteraunts I have ever been to. This was my second time coming back when visiting my sister in SC and it was just as good! Cannot wait to come back for a third time. All the dishes are so fresh and delicious. The miso soup is also amazing. Cute atmosphere and they were able to comfortably accommodate the baby car seat on a booth. See you for a third time very soon!

Nicole L.

Yelp
Excellent presentation of food and the meals were delicious too! The ambience was great! Nice location and within walking distance of you are staying in the downtown area.

J R.

Yelp
Korean Fusion it is. The food was great. The tteok-bokki was spicy and on point. Reminded me of my grandmother. The chicken tenders were flavorful but didn't expect it to be breaded. They have a boneless wing version which i think may be the twice fried version I was hoping (its called Chicken Kangjeong-Boneless Wings). The spicy pork bento box was great. Could've used a bit more spice (but my spice level is pretty high).

Keená A.

Yelp
The menu has changed and the prices are high. The quality and portion size are not equatable to the price point. I understand investing back into the business and doing renovations, but that should not have an impact on the quality of food.

Jay B.

Yelp
Food is amazing, but go for the cocktails! Every once and a while you run across a bartender who really knows his job and puts a ton of effort into making a good cocktail. The kid (Hunter) at 929 Kitchen and Bar in Columbia, SC is making Petraske and Ross level experimental drinks, putting hours into making his own bitters and syrups. Many of the cocktails have a solid bourbon base and all use top shelf liqueurs. Look, it takes a lot to drag my butt from drinking Stagg at Bourbon in Columbia but this was worth it. We had a few, but this was the Miso washed Bulliet with beet infused sujo, and my wife had a perfect experimental tequila cocktail he tried on us. It's terrible to say, but I know it was amazing, but I can't remember what I ate - the cocktails are that good!

Margaret C.

Yelp
The ambiance is great and the staff was very friendly! The food arrived extremely fast, almost too fast lol. My husband loved his wings and spicy pork stir fry, lots of flavor in both. Unfortunately my beef bulgogi Bibimbap wasn't as flavorful as I'd hoped. Nothing was fermented or pickled which gives it that delicious flavor profile. The beef was tender but I had to smother the whole bowl with the gochujang sauce. I wouldn't order that again but I would try something else. We also ordered a child's plate which came with miso soup which I personally would omit or have an option to switch out for some child accessible steamed veggies. Overall we had a pleasant experience.

Kiet P.

Yelp
Tried out the typical dishes, beef bulgogi and mandoo. Portion is small and price is pretty high, 27 bucks for both. Mandoo is TINY! Maybe it's because I'm not from Columbia, SC. Food is delish though! 4 star if price and portion is right.

Prudence T.

Yelp
Good food no service. We were traveling through Columbia and had dinner here. Good Asian fusion sort of food. Fun vibe and quaint spot. I'm gluten free and while they only had a few options for me, they made it work. Had a seafood noodle dish and it was delish.

Ananya M.

Yelp
The wok stir fried udon noodles are amazing I want ti get them again, they were so so good. We went with a big group and the service was great. They were able to seat us pretty quickly for a big group and early dinner. The inside is nice but gets a bit crowded.

Evelyn J J.

Yelp
"Overall, dining at this restaurant was a delight from start to finish..... I would like to come back here again and again.

L. R.

Yelp
Things started out on a sour note: no soft drinks of any kind, as their machine was out. Only cocktails, mocktails, and water. Ok, water it was. The meat dumplings were tasty, so things were looking up. And then my son got his food. Mine? It would be another ten minutes before it was brought to me. Ok. Then I started to work on my meal and noticed it had the onions I had asked TWICE to be omitted. Put the plate aside, but it was another ten minutes before the waitress stopped by, and then I had to flag her down because the full plate sitting next to me uneaten wasn't obvious enough. Anyway, my son was done with his dinner by the time I got mine, making the bad meal pacing even worse. What I finally DID get was hot and tasty, but the mood was ruined. All we got was "sorry." Ok.

A B.

Yelp
The most consistently delicious restaurant in SC. Service is wonderful. Venue feels small- especially during the school year with university students being in town, and the waits are long sometimes but the staff is always professional and inviting! The food is simply delicious so that wait is always worth it....This is where you take loved ones from out of town for a nice meal... Oh and believe them when they say something is spicy...

Maria F.

Yelp
Was my favorite place to go and after the menu change just not good so disappointing the service and food went down

Paula S.

Yelp
I have been here twice and have enjoyed it on both occasions. Their craft cocktails are delicious. The wings are tasty. It was my first time trying the spicy rice cakes and kimchi pancakes. They were absolutely delicious. Very flavorful.

Meagan J.

Yelp
The ambiance was aesthetically pleasing and inviting. Bright, colorful, and fun to be honest. The service was great and the waiters were attentive. However, the Singapore noodles were very salty which is probably due to the sauce that was on it. I wasn't pleased and returned it. The portions were very large. I then tried the dumplings and wasn't really feeling it. It was doughy to me. Would I go back again? I'll give it another try for dinner and not brunch.

R O.

Yelp
Come with an open mind, leave with a full heart. Excellent food. The bar has great choices of unique takes of drinks

Lorena R.

Yelp
We've ordered from here twice through doordash. Loved everything! The lunch bulgogi tray was so flavorful and I loved all the options. Can't wait to dine in!

Jackie L.

Yelp
Delicious food! The cocktails were amazing! Very nice atmosphere and the service was superb. A definite must visit in Columbia!

Raul V.

Yelp
Excellent food near SC campus! If you are near SC campus and want great Asian food at an excellent price, be sure to stop in at 929!!

Desiree R.

Yelp
Delicious food and good customer service. Don't hesitate to experience their menu! Good place to go with even your vegan friends.

Briana Y.

Yelp
You definitely won't leave here hungry. The portion sizes of the food are huge. I started with a mocktail. I appreciate that they serve these because so many customers abstain from alcohol but still want a "nice" drink. I had the nachos, which were a good fusion appetizer to start the meal with. For my meal I had the pork bulgogi bibimbap. It was good overall. The gochujang is served on the side so that you can choose your own level of spice.

Brittney T.

Yelp
Fantastic meal, fast service, and great ambiance! I highly recommend checking out 929 Kitchen & Bar
