The Best Korean Restaurants in Santa Clara | Eater SF

"The South Bay has no shortage of Korean fried chicken chains, like the ubiquitous (and sure, quite excellent) Bonchon shops, but 99 Chicken has been providing a solid local alternative for well over a decade, since, well, before very many non-Koreans even knew about the other KFC. The chicken is twice-fried and often sauce-slathered and bracingly spicy, and dine-in customers can help themselves to as much rice and pickled daikon cubes as they like. Fair warning: Leave the weak of appetite at home, as there’s a five-piece-per-person minimum to sit down and eat at the restaurant." - Luke Tsai

Google
We dinned in and ordered the combination. It comes with 10 large pieces of chicken. I ate 4 pieces and was full. When you dine in, they will give you a plate for salad and rice when they serve your chicken. The salad bar has radish, spring mix, coleslaw, cabbage, jalapeño, and salad dressing. Water is self serve. Flavor wise, it was all pretty standard. The fried chicken (2.5/5) was crispy but doesn’t have that usually airy crunchy texture I get from the fried starches when I eat Korean fried chicken. The meat was a bit bland to me, I felt like it could have been seasoned more. The honey chicken (2.5/5) is just the fried chicken with honey over it. The spicy chicken was more of a sweet and spicy sauce (2.5/3). The sauce chicken (1.5/5) was a bit sweet and tasted a bit like reduced ketchup.

Google
I opted for the sampler flavors. Korean sauce, plain, honey and last soy. And I also searched for a to go faster in out stop. A combo of legs and wings. I found it good quality chicken, but I will try other flavors for a better test. Price was a bit steep, but what isn’t. 10 piece and came up $31. As always post wherever your palate takes you.

One of the best korean fried chicken I can find. The salad dressing is special and delicious.

Damn, their fried chicken is hella good... Definitely one of the best Korean fried chicken places in the Bay Area. Easily beats out chain stores, like bb.q, with the only "downside" being that you can only order chicken in quantities of 10(~31$/order). Even for ~3$/piece, however, the pieces themselves are massive, and all of them are exceptionally juicy. The sides, like radishes, rice, and salad, are unlimited and free, which honestly is just a fantastic gesture of goodwill(and makes sense, that stuff ain't expensive anyways). My recommendation, go for the flavors that aren't super sauced up. Those flavors just aren't as crispy, nor do they pair as well with the sides(inherently sour), compared to their other options. They ain't bad, but they aren't my first or second pick.

Google
99 chicken is located on the koreatown street of El Camino. Parking might be difficult in front of the store but if you go further in theres a lot more parking. They are known for their sitdown chicken as you get unlimited rice and side dishes. (However only take what u can get cuz u can’t take it to go) Chicken itself was pretty good, the honey garlic chicken was nice and had a good aroma to it. I wouldn’t recommend #3 their sauce chicken as it just tasted like ketchup and bbq sauce. Overall a nice sit-down eatery and one order can feed two ppl.

Google
First timer 3.5* - Don't know why I was thinking they served the regular-sized chicken wings but these are actually very big as they should be for $28 for 10. To be honest, there were 2 smaller sized wings though but the drumsticks were big. Ordered half & half soy garlic and honey garlic and they pretty much tasted the same-a bit sweet but could've saved a bit more soy sauce. They were straight from the fryer piping hot. You do get access to a free AYCE salad/condiments bar with seasoned daikon, broccoli, spring salad, shredded cabbage and steamed white rice which helped offset all the fried chicken. 1 unisex restroom in the back and about a dozen tables inside. Service was friendly. You also get plastic gloves at your table and a metal waste container.

Google
The Asian guy (maybe he’s Korean) who cooks, he’s very rude!!! One of the salads (the leaves) were empty already, and when I asked to refill the salad, he got into an attitude and argument with me. I do not recommend this place since it got taken over by new owners. However, I liked the original owners. Also, they take out all the sauces that were on the tables, and they charge extra for the sauces now. Also, they charged 30cents for each box, no matter if it’s a small box. I do not recommend this place.

Dominic Apana

Google
I've been coming here for years, and this place is going downhill fast. Super cheap with sauce on the chicken. Looks like they put what little sauce you get in the box first, then put the chicken on top. Rice portions are a joke. Definitely the last time I ever go here, and will actively tell people to avoid this place from now on. Not worth the money anymore, what a shame.

Yelp
Hands down, one of the best fried chicken in the area, the chicken is large, seasoned well, always crispy and pipping hot, like literally what fried chicken is about. This is definitely portioned for take out if seating for one however it's definitely for a family night. Place is small with just enough seating

Yelp
This place has been on my radar for a while. I wish I enjoyed it more. The restaurant has a parking lot in front but it does get really busy. There are a couple tables inside but if you have a large group you might need to wait a while. If you dine in, you get access to their unlimited salad bar. It includes rice, radish, broccoli, salad and some other stuff. You can't take stuff from the salad bar as part of your to go container if you have leftovers. You can also get stuff from the salad bar after they give you paper plates. After we ordered it took about 5-10 mins to get our food. They give you disposable gloves as well. Honey garlic chicken: 2/5, The chicken wasn't super crunchy. They also give a mix of drum sticks and chicken wings. Their sauce didn't have a strong garlic flavor. It just tasted sweet. I also wish there was more sauce. Korean sauce chicken: 2/5, the waitress described the flavor to be similar to gochujang. We got mild so it wasn't spicy at all. It had a slight sweetness. The overall flavor was just okay but it wasn't my favorite. These wings had more sauce but the wings were not crispy. Not sure if I'll be back. I think there are better Korean chicken spots in the area

Yelp
What I got: Honey Garlic Chicken : 3/5 Soy Sauce Chicken : 3/5 So I went here after going to the climbing gym, and I decided to try this place because my friend recommended it to me. So that being said, I felt like the flavoring for the place was all right. I think I prefer bbq chicken or vons. But that being said, the crispiness of the chicken was very light. It didn't feel super oily, which was surprising because it's fried chicken. The service was pretty good. I really enjoyed this place because they have a salad, rice and radish bar. Honestly, I'd come back for how much radish I was able to get. The ambiance was very casual. Nothing to write home about. I would prefer to just take out the chicken and eat it at home. But then you wouldn't get the unlimited radish. Would I come back again? Yeah, I think so, but I think I would first bring up bbq chicken and vons first lol

Yelp
The chicken wing sizes are decent. My partner and I got full after 3-4 pcs so the 10 pc is perfect for two. Theres unlimited rice and salad bar. Ketchup lovers should choose the red sauced flavors. I wasn't really a fan and the honey chicken is literally just fried chicken drizzled with honey. Would probably come back for the fried chicken to-go and make my own sauces at home.

Yelp
Pleased to say that the Korean fried chicken here still hits. Customer service is mid. They've gotten stingy with their salad bar and access is limited lol. They give you 2 paper plates for the salad bar when your order comes out to your table, so you don't start eating from it before your chicken comes out. The red sauce that used to be complimentary is now an extra charge (inflation). I love getting the red sauce and honey on the side, with the original chicken. So good!

Yelp
Came in on a Friday night for the first place and waited a few min before being seated- there's a 5 piece min per person for chicken and unlimited salad/rice. Chicken took a while to come out but there was a big party at the same time as us. We ordered the soy garlic and honey chicken- the skin is crispy but flavor was quite bland. The honey chicken was coated in honey and the soy garlic didn't taste very garlicky. Overall it was an okay experience not sure if I would go out of the way to come back

Yelp
Love coming here for some quality Korean fried chicken. There's not a whole lot of flavors compared to some other big kfc chains, but that's okay because they have the classics and that's all I really need. I recommend the soy garlic and the honey chicken! The chicken is well fried and the wings and drumsticks are huge. Crispy, juicy, and the glaze is super good. I recommend dining in so you can take advantage of their side bar too. It's nothing crazy- rice, salad, radish- but considering other chains will charge you for these basic sides this is still much appreciated. Will be back for all my kfc cravings!

Yelp
99 Chicken is the OG of the Korean fried chicken in the South Bay, and can't believe it's taken me so long to finally try it! Huge drums and not too overly sauced (minus the spicy version) and can really enjoy the fresh fried goodness of the chicken. Garlic soy is my favorite and it was really good! Also tried the honey one which wasn't too sweet! Great quality fried chicken!

Yelp
I've been coming here for almost 15 years and in MY opinion, it is hands down the best place to get Korean Fried Chicken! Besides coming here to fulfill my fried chicken cravings, which could be twice or thrice a month but who's counting! Every time I have visitors that aren't from around here, this is a go to place I would take them to eat. If you decide to dine in, they offer an all you can eat salad bar and unlimited rice! They serve drumsticks (not drumettes) and whole chicken wings. I say that this is hands down the best Korean fried chicken because the flavor is present throughout the whole chicken. My go to order is Soy Sauce Chicken half spicy half mild, and their hot honey chicken. The service here is great. They used to have pictures of their guests on the walls but they've renovated since then and the look is more modern. But they've remolded still have remnants of how it was before like the newspaper articles and some pictures. 10/10 Will continue to keep coming back to eat here and would recommend to anyone who loves fried chicken!

Yelp
Hit up this SJ staple on a Saturday night around 7 pm. Place was pretty empty, but I've been told it typically gets busy. My boyfriend and I ordered the half honey garlic and half spicy korean fried chicken. I believe each flavor came with three drumsticks and two wings. Chicken 8/10--crispy but the texture felt a tiny bit off for some reason. If you're unsure what to get, honey garlic is a classic. The spicy Korean sauce has gochujang in it so it has a bit of a kick. Rice 11/10--maybe it was scooping it directly from the rice cooker or the large batch cooked, but this was the BEST rice I've ever had. Rice at home never tastes as good. Salad 9/10--fresh and crisp: sweet ginger dressing is an acquired taste Pickled radish 6/10--would've liked it sweeter and less salty Really affordable, hole in the wall vibes for some of the best comfort food. Would definitely come back, highly recommend.

Yelp
The place was clean and felt welcoming. The service was fast and straightforward. For newcomer, they provide clear instructions on what to do. The food was delicious and chicken was much bigger than expected. It is on a pricer side for chicken, but they compensate it with an all you can eat vegetable and rice area. I wish they had more option for vegetables. Overall, a good place to grab some delicious chicken!

Yelp
I've had 99 Chicken a few times, YEARS AND YEARS ago!! Prior to today's visit, I've only had it via takeout. TBH, I wasn't ever really blown away by the food or quality. The only thing that stuck out from my visits was the salad bar open to dine-in customers- generous on the owner's part. After a fun filled morning in Santa Clara, I made the decision to stop by here and give 99 Chicken another go. Our family and I walked in for lunch and were immediately seated after confirming our party size. The menu is pretty straightforward. Each meal offered consists of 10pc chicken and you decide on what sauce(s) you'd like. There are 6 sauces available on top of the original [naked]: Spicy, Sauce, Honey, Honey Garlic, Soy Sauce, & Korean. Additional 5pc orders are available for an additional cost. If you are indecisive like myself or would prefer an assortment of flavors, order #5 or 8 is the way to go. Lunch for us 2 adults, 1 toddler ended up being the Combination Chicken. Between our 10pc chicken we are given 4 different sauces [one being naked]. Food: The chicken is served fresh and oh so very HOT! Every piece was thoroughly cooked- still very moist inside and contained a nice crunch at its exterior. The original [naked] could have used some flavoring [or maybe some ketchup!!] and the spicy sauce vs sauce tasted the same without any bit of heat. Honey was my favorite of the 4 variations provided in the combination. Salad bar isn't anything overly exciting but you can't beat that FREE.99 cost. Pickled radish cubes are the only things I ate but there are leafy greens, broccoli, and jalapeños provided. Rice is also complimentary so the business asks that you are mindful in only taking whatever you can consume. 3.5 overall. Staff could be a bit more welcoming as opposed to just being very dry and short but I bumped the rating to a 4 just because 99 Chicken is so generous with the complimentary salad bar.

Yelp
I just got home and honestly feel the need to leave a bad review so others can avoid dining here. Good luck with your business Loll I used to be a loyal customer before they switched to this awful new owner. Tonight, I went in to dine and had a terrible experience with a young Korean woman (looks like she's the owner). Her attitude was absolutely unacceptable. I placed an order with her. I went to the salad bar and check. Then I simply asked for a paper plate for my salad, and instead of handling it professionally, she yelled at me. Apparently, their store has some ridiculous rule and you must follow that shit : you don't get your plate until your chicken is ready. Basically, You are not allowed to ask for one. She explained tons of shit and rules when you are placing your order with her. Fine. But I politely asked if I could just get the plate for my salad first -- and her reaction? She raised her voice and snapped, "I already explained that to you. You get the plate after you get the chicken!" Seriously? What kind of logic is that? She acted like a power-tripping robot, more focused on enforcing her "rules" than showing even basic respect to a paying customer. She could've easily explained it nicely, but instead chose to be rude and aggressive. I didn't pay to be treated like garbage. I paid for food and decent service -- not for her horrible attitude.

Yelp
Don't even get me started, this place is everything you could want and more. Go in and get a plate of chicken & indulge in the AYCE Korean starters bar. The service team is incredibly friendly and helpful! It a "hole in the wall" in the sense that it's lowkey and amazing! Go support this small business!!

Yelp
Best of cluck! Experience (3/5 stars): *Food: I haven't been here in years, totally forgot how big the wings are! Got the fried and honey garlic. Chicken was crispy, hot, and juicy. Salad bar and rice were unlimited. Get some Cass to drink on the side! *Price: $30 for half & half *Service: self-serve Overall, solid place but I'd rather go to bbq chicken.

Yelp
The best Korean fried chicken spot!! I have come here so many times back when I was in highschool. I was sad to see that they renovated the interior and had to take down the pictures on the walls of other customers (now displayed as a slideshow) The fried chicken is always fresh, juicy, made to order, and huge! Go to has always been the soy sauce chicken but now I will have to throw in the Korean sauce chicken into the mix. You also cannot forget about the self serve salad bar that is AYCE to all diners! Best way to cut down all the protein and have a balanced meal. They do require a minimum order per headcount but I think it is fine. Prices are pricey but I can't complain with the quality and quantity you get! Service can also be a bit spotty but I have never experienced poor service personally - it's always a great time with friends and family here.

Yelp
99 Chicken remains my favorite fried chicken throughout the decades. The fresh crispy chicken and flavorful sauces are unbeatable in my book. My favorite is their soy garlic and my bf likes their new flavor honey garlic. If you dine in, the salad bar is unlimited! I do miss their hot tea they used to provide. Service is quick and very minimal (which I don't mind at all). The place is small so if you need something during your meal, it's not too much trouble to wave someone down or walk over to the counter. The main con is the parking lot during dinner time. The parking lines are barely visible and coupled with bad drivers... well it's not a good combo. Aside from that, this is a yummy budget friendly meal!
google avatar

Yelp
this is me and my boyfriend's go to. the chicken is always hot fresh and crunchy. we always get the friend chicken half spicy soy and half soy since i can't eat spice. the staff is very friendly and attentive. they give you two plates for sides like lettuce, cabbage, rice, etc. they limit you to two but you can always reuse your plate to grab more. MUST TRY THE PEANUT SALAD DRESSING, it's the darker colored sauce next to the ranch. it is soooooo good, i eat so much cabbage with it. honestly i dip my chicken in it. it is their very own store recipe! i wish i could buy a bottle for myself.

Yelp
One of the first Korean Chicken Offerings in the area, I have much respect. My go to is the Garlic soy.

Yelp
Came with a party of 4 on a Friday night and luckily got the last open table. The space is cozy but not overly loud, considering it was a full house. A worker was quick to help us out and explain the menu. They have free self-serve white rice and a salad bar. I noticed they changed the rice while I was there, so it's good to know it's always fresh. We got two half-and-half's: 1 half spicy and half soy garlic, and 1 half spicy soy garlic and half honey garlic. Chicken was freshly fried, crispy, and juicy. All the flavors were so good, and the chicken wasn't overly dressed (which I personally favor). The spicy soy garlic definitely stood out to me as the best flavor, so I recommend that. Would love to come back and try their different flavors, and to try their chicken sandwiches!

Yelp
Don't waste your money here!!!!! Enter at your own risk! SOCIAL MEDIA hype this place up and miss out telling actual details! The people here our extremely rude the moment you walk in red flag! Ambiance is worth a one star and most importantly the food is overly priced!! It's 30 bucks for a 10 wings with no fries, nor drink! I ended up going to BBQ CHICKEN which is few minutes down the street and best decision ever!

Yelp
Just went today to get some Chicken to go. Wanted to try something different than my usual go-to fried chicken places. I ordered the Honey Garlic and the Soy Sauce (half&half). It came with around 10 decent size parts. 5 per flavor. Plus a small side of pickled radish. Total was around $35 including tax. Estimated time was 15 minutes to get my order. The smell was good. I tried both flavors and I like the Honey Garlic more. It says it's one of their newest flavors. I like how it does not have heavy breading. Sometimes, I just want to enjoy the skin of the chicken, which I did in this case. I wonder how the other flavors taste, like a spicy one. I'm gonna try again next time. It's just a smaller restaurant, but there's a good number of tables that sits 4 people. P.S. We're so hungry when we got home, that I forgot to take photo of the chicken.

Yelp
How is this place a 3.5 star???? My friends and I came in on a Wednesday night around 7:30PM. It wasn't too crowded and we were able to find a table. Our host was very nice and friendly and informed us that there WERE peanuts involved in certain dishes (huge because 2/4 of us are allergic). So we ordered accordingly. We ordered 2 ordered of honey garlic and 1 order of the Korean spicy chicken and both were off the charts fantastic. We also ordered a soju cocktail and split it and it was sooo good. The chicken is very crispy while having a heavenly sauce. Usuallly I worry about soggy wings but not the case at all. Piping hot crispy wings that ALSO have flavor is a perfect combination. It was serve yourself with rice and salad and there wa sa minimum of 5 pieces for each person which was a rule we did not know about but it didn't matter cuz we ate so much hahaha The order for us came out to about $30 a person including tip. Such a great spot and honestly very deceiving in terms of help reviews. I WILL be back

Yelp
BAD ATTITUDE -YELLING AND POINTING FINGER AT CUSTOMERS !!!!!!!! HOPEFULLY,UR BUSINESS IS STILL ALIVE WITHOUT SUPPORT FROM CUSTOMERS . I usually don't rant too often about bad service at a restaurant but today I went to 99 chicken over in Santa Clara, our go to spot for Korean chicken and their side bar with veggies and rice. Usually I'd get a few plates of sides to eat with my chicken but today they yelled at my wife and me for getting more than one plate of veggies. It was so off putting and I didn't want to eat anymore. There's no sign saying one plate of sides per person, it's an open salad bar basically. THE KOREAN GUY, with bad behavior (around40-50year old) pointed his finger at my wife and was yelling that this isn't a salad place. We've never been this rudely treated ever before. So it's the last time we're going here. Just a disappointment, no wonder the place was so empty when we went in, they used to not be rude.
google avatar

Vinh N.

Yelp
Last time I'm going to this place. Lost the welcoming vibe and fun place to eat Korean fried chicken. $5 for sauce on the side???? Random restrictions and super expensive pricing, just not a fun place it used to be.

Yelp
order: soy garlic wings SOOO YUMMYYYY!!! ONE OF FAV KOREAN FRIED CHICKENN PLACESSS. haven't had in so long, have just been eating leftovers from my brother whenever i'm back the chicken pieces r huge and they r crispy!! sauce is soo declious, like not overpowering but also not bland idk perfect balance. they have like a topping bar with pickled radish, coleslaw, and salad. pickled radish was okay, not as crunchy as i liked but they tasted good. the dressing for the salad is soooo good, it's kinda sweet but idk i haven't tried smt similar. workers r super nice too, very sweet HAHAHA. overall super good and def recommend yummy rating: 10/10

Yelp
My bf and I loved coming here to get Korean fried chicken but the last time we went was a miss... We spent about $45 on chicken, 1 order of fries, and side of spicy sauce. The chicken size has gotten smaller. Plates are limited now and we have to wait to get plates to start the salad unlike before. Before when we would dine in they would give us plates right away and there was no limit on the rice/ salad bar. However we were told that some customers took advantage of the salad, as a result, they limit each customer to 2 plates.

Yelp
This is an OG spot for korean fried chicken that I've gone to for years. Absolutely hits the spot every time. There's a small salad bar with some shredded cabbage, spring mix, and pickled jalapeños and pickled daikon, as well as rice, all of which are unlimited. They used to let you go up and grab your own plates but recently they changed it so that they give you the plates when your chicken comes out to the table. My group got the spicy soy garlic and korean sauce chicken. Their sauces are really good and hit all the right flavor notes. Their chicken is fried really nicely, crispy on the outside and juicy inside. I really like that they use drumsticks and the whole wings here, although this is purely personal preference. Service here is not the warmest, but I wouldn't say it's unfriendly just minimalistic. Of course though, the food absolute ly makes up for it.
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
This used to be our go to spot after every hike, which was pretty much every weekend, but ever since their new ownership, it's been going straight downhill and suffice to say we won't be coming back unless the rude service is significantly improved. They now have an extremely strict policy on the salad and rice bar, which was never the case in the past. I totally understand they need to make a profit but if they are so concerned about the cost, maybe change the business model instead of making the customers feel like they are begging for food that they paid a fair price for. They also charge for to-go boxes and everyone can only eat off of 2 paper plates, a large one for the chicken and a small one for the salad, which was weirdly specific. We had a couple pieces of chicken left and didn't want to pay for a to-go box so we put the left over chicken on our allocated paper plates to bring home, to which the waitress promptly yelled at us telling us we cannot do that. They only told us we couldn't take the leftover salad/rice home, which we weren't doing, we didn't even have any salad/rice. I honestly don't need to be yelled at when I'm paying a fair price for my well deserved chicken, there are many other good chicken places in the area, this one is now a hard pass unless the customer service gets better.

Yelp
This place looks expensive at first glance of the menu, but honestly it has so much value! $30 for 10 pieces makes it out to be $3 a piece, but these pieces are HUGE. In a party of 6, we got 4 plates which turned out to be about $23 each since we split it evenly which is pretty good since I was stuffed at the end! They also provide rice and a mini salad bar but emphasize that you should only get what you can eat and not waste food. Service was really friendly, we had a younger girl around our age take our order and she was super friendly, understanding, and easy to interact with! Our food came out really fast and was super yummy. I think I just prefer more skin and crunchier and moist skin (is that an oxymoron?) at that, and the chicken did taste dry sometimes but.. my boyfriend loved it so.. preference! Will be back though, a staple for korean fried chicken in the bay area!

Yelp
Still my favorite Korean fried chicken joint. Set up is still the same. Unlimited rice and salad. Pick your chicken and sauces and go to town. I miss the photos that use to be on the wall.

Yelp
I had no idea there was a shift in management, but the food quality still remains the same to me! However, a few changes did confuse me. There seems to be a 2 plate policy per guest for the rice/salad/sauce bar. My partner and I were confused if we were only allowed to grab things from the bar twice or if we could visit the bar as many times as possible with the two plates given to us. We were both a bit shy to ask, so we only visited the bar once. Nonetheless, chicken was hot and juicy! Service was nice :) I didn't have any issues with our server and was happy my chicken came out within 10 minutes of ordering! Cheers to the 2024 year~ First yelp review of the year and paying my respects to the glorious Korean fried chicken. :P

Yelp
If u have not been here since 2021i advise u not to come back They now have a minimum of 5 chickens per person so if u have 3 people eating your fkd cuz you'd have to order 20 pcs to sit and eat there ! the pieces are so big and they now charge extra if u leave any left over rice or salad. they need to go back to 2021 to improve service!! also its $30 for 10 pcs!!!!! only 3 of us ate and we are left with 11 pcs to bring home!!!

Yelp
No matter what people say, I love the customer service we have received here in the last year, with the change of ownership. We have eaten here 2 times in the past week, nothing has changed, we still love and support 99 Chicken forever! Owners are great. It is frustrating to have a family-run business and have people take advantage of the rules and policies - they are justified in their reinforcement of the salad bar rules and 5 chicken per person rules. Had a wonderful experience taking friends here. We will all continue to be back.

Yelp
The Korean Sauce Chicken was bomb! Seriously, I saw this guy on ig say it was the best he ever had so why not give it a go? I happened to be in San Jose for business related purposes & I knew just where to go once I was done. Restaurant had a lot of regulars, conversing, they came in groups or even couples. I came by myself, they had a small table for people who come alone, I didn't like that but no biggie. It's $30 & some change for a 10 piece... a gigantic 10 piece. Is it pricey? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes. You figure you pay $23-$25 for a 10 piece of regular sized wings at wingstop. These were big, the sauce was so good & it comes with a free salad bar. The salad bar isn't much to be honest, I just really needed the rice to go with the sauce on the wings. Other than that it was just salad, dressing & a few vegetables. It took a while for my wings to come out but that's how you know they make them fresh. They give you a couple pairs of gloves so you won't get messy, I loved the hand sanitizer at every table, I believe all restaurants should have those. What could be improved is actual plates & silverware instead of paper plates & plastic spoons. Other than that, I recommend this place for all who crave flavored chicken any day. I really enjoyed my meal, I got full off 7 of the 10 wings, and I'm one who can eat a big meal. They charge for any left over rice but they give you a fair warning on the menu, and it's only $3 to take rice to go. Please come try this restaurant, good food & cool ambience. Enjoy everyone!

Yelp
It's been years since I've returned to 99 Chicken, but I'm happy to say that nothings changed. Except maybe their two plate rule (only allowed to use two plates) and not having hot tea anymore, but I'm not mad because #savetheearth. I love that they still have the self-service salad bar, rice and water.

Yelp
Compared to the other korean fried chicken spots in the area, it just doesn't quite match up. It's crispiness isn't quite what the others are. The sauce itself is actually decent, but the chicken is absolutely drenched in sauce. The problem with this is that because the chicken isn't very crispy, the extra sauce it's smothered in isn't satisfying. The flavor is decent, but so much of the appeal of the chicken typically is the texture as well. The chicken flavor itself isn't anything special.

Yelp
I would never have really considered myself a Korean fried chicken kind of girl when I was younger (I liked neither chicken nor spice) but, you know, you have to grow up eventually. I came with a family friend who's been going to this place for probably almost as long as I've been alive -- he says he's gone so long that he's even seen a new set of owners. And I can see why he keeps coming back. The chicken is juicy and the sauces are flavorful! We ordered a plate of combination (for me to sample) and a plate of just normal fried chicken (for the young ones). My favorite was definitely the honey chicken -- something about the sugars in the honey combined with the crispy, hot batter just makes the texture absolutely divine. The sauce chicken was a little bit heavy, but the spicy one was really good. I'd definitely come back to order a plate of half honey half spicy sauce in the future!

Yelp
New owners and a renovated restaurant! My boyfriend and I have been coming here for years when we're in the area and during our last visit, we were surprised to see a newly renovated space! Gone are the old polaroids from old patrons, which is what made this place very mom-and-pop. When we asked one of the employees what they did to the old photos, they mentioned that they digitized all the photos and put them up on a digital picture frame. The renovated space is refreshed, modern, and clean but the chicken remains tried and true. In addition to the price increase (not surprised) and new space, there are some new menu items: fried chicken sandwich and two new sauces for their chicken - Korean Sauce and Honey Garlic. We didn't order the sandwiches, but if you wanna try, you can order a regular fried chicken sandwich, a spicy one, or a sauced one. We did, however, try the new Honey Garlic chicken. Here's my updated rankings from most to least favorite: 1. Honey Garlic 2. Honey 3. Soy Sauce 4. Chili 5. Fried Chicken Next time I come in, I'll be trying the Korean Sauce and one of the sandwiches.

Yelp
I'm so glad this place never changes. I haven't been here since I was a kid and when I went back recently, I'm happy to say that it still tasted just as I remembered it. I always get the half order of spicy sauce chicken and the other half with the soy garlic (my absolute fave flavor). Both pair well with fresh cooked rice that you serve yourself from the big rice pot at the salad bar. I always have to get pickled radish too whenever I come eat here. Service is just average because all they do is really use bring out your chicken and other dishes for you. There's already utensils, plates, gloves and everything else you need to self-serve at your table. I do like that they bring out your chicken super quick. Hopefully this place continues its legacy in fried chicken.

Yelp
Update from my review 10 months ago: I came here last weekend as my boys and niece & nephews wanted KFC on our way home from the city. We arrived here and were seated immediately as the restaurant wasn't too busy. Our orders were taken right away, and bc we had 2 adults and 5 kids, we needed to make a half order. We ordered the following: 1. Spicy/Spicy chicken 2. Soy Garlic chicken 3. Korean sauce chicken (1/2 order) It was a hit for the kids! The salad bar and rice are complimentary and self-serve. The chicken is still as crunchy and moist inside. Doesn't taste oily. Today, we tried the Korean sauce chicken and Hubby & I loved it! Best flavor for us as we both love spicy. The staff that assisted us was the daughter of the owner. She is very friendly and sociable as we had a good discussion on K-pop, esp BTS. The restaurant is a decent size and has tables enough for parties of 8-10 to sit together. There is alcohol there as well in the fridge. Great pairing with KFC, though I didn't have any as we were driving kids around. Now that my boys have been here, I am sure they'll ask to come back again next time instead of Bonchons.

Yelp
Called in for take out and the prices on yelp is NOT THE CORRECT PRICES. 10 pieces of chicken came out to be $33 and not the $20 listed on their yelp. Waiter said they don't use yelp so prices aren't accurate even though I got their number to call in from yelp... Chicken itself has always been good but for the price point I personally feel like you can get a better bang for your buck elsewhere.

Yelp
This place is always such a great place for wings! They have amazing chicken with really good flavor. I often find myself here after a sporty day and I'm super hungry! Love that the rice and the veggies are self serve. The chicken is always super big in size and 2-3 wings fills me up. The service is quick and the inside feels home-y. Always will come back to 99 chicken.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday with my family really nice service. We sat down inside where you can grab unlimited sides and rice with the chicken. The chicken was super crispy and juicy inside. We tried a spicy one and a honey chicken order. The inside is a comfort food environment lots of families inside. Parking is very easy in the parking lot in front.

Yelp
99 Chicken doesn't disappoint! Their chicken came out still super hot, crispy, and well-flavored. They do have a minimum of 5 wings ordered per person, so keep that in mind. We ordered a combination chicken plate and half honey garlic, half soy sauce. There isn't too much variation in their flavors, and I wish they had more options. They have a salad bar with rice, pickled radish, and of course, salad. While I love pickled radish, I wish they had more varieties of sides, like kimchi. We came on a Wednesday night, so it wasn't busy at all. Overall, I enjoyed the food but would love to see more variety and options to choose from.

Yelp
Got the #5 combo which had regular, sauce, spicy, and honey garlic. I enjoyed honey garlic the best. The sauce and spicy had way too much sauce on them. I had to scrape off a tick layer of sauce. The chicken was pretty dry in some parts. They offered a free unlimited salad and rice bar, but only to the customers who order a 5 piece of chicken minimum. 2 people from our party ordered the chicken sandwich and they were not allowed to participate
