Price is good! Variety of vegetables and seafood. Also, two small restaurants are my favorite! Especially one that has my hometown tastes. I drove an extra 25 minutes from VA to MD.

Went to get some Chinese takeout food since here is better. The groceries are slightly more expensive than other locations.

It's been years since I've been here but it was great getting reacquainted. I had forgotten the incredible variety of produce that can be found in Asian markets. Different types of mushrooms are readily available like oyster mushrooms (sliced and unsliced) and enoki, different cabbages, spices, and fresh herbs that are difficult to find in main stream grocery stores. There's lots of fresh fish, shellfish, and meats in addition to the produce. It's the first time I've ever seen a black chicken or a brick of pork belly. Even a broad array of desserts. I filled my cart with some frozen dim sum dishes and marinades and struggled to only pick one of the ube ice creams.

I recently visited this supermarket and had a very disappointing experience with one of the cashiers. Throughout the checkout process, the cashier was entirely unprofessional. She never smiled and was more focused on chatting with her colleagues than assisting customers. We had to ask a question three times before getting any response. When we asked if she could scan two 15lb bags of rice in the cart, she refused and insisted that we lift them for her to scan. However, when it came to counting a box of mangoes, she quickly came around to count them herself, giving us a disdainful look, as if she suspected us of stealing. Additionally, the payment process was equally frustrating. Despite informing her that we were using Alipay, she insisted it was WeChat Pay. This led to a failed transaction and no resolution or assistance from her. The overall experience was highly unprofessional and disappointing.

Google
A huge selection of asian snacks, groceries, and even medicine! I also love their food court—the steamed buns are VERY juicy and fresh, and I like the zongzi too. Their pastries are decent, but obviously not that fresh: definitely not the best you could find in the area.

Google
Be aware, the bakery sells expired stuffs. Bought two puff buns, first both have mold on the cake at the bottom (so glad I checked, otherwise I will be poisoned), and second the flavor is not the right one I asked for. If possible, I like to give it zero stars.

Google
A great west coast (US) institution is now in Maryland giving one of the best selections and cleanest Asian grocery experiences in the DC area. Seafood and fresh produce are well maintained and the hot deli and bakery give great quick options. You also get in store dollars as rewards to spend on deli items which is an plus. Other Asian groceries embrace the pan Asian variety (ie Indian, Korean, Japanese) while 99 Ranch is predominantly Chinese cuisine. Because of that they get Lays potato chips flavors from China or salted egg fish skins from Singapore. Nice to see that.

Google
Pretty decent grocery store with a nicely diverse food court area. There's a variety of produce, snacks, and hot foods. The seafood section sells out of some items fast, so make sure you shop early especially on weekends. The hot foods area seemed just ok overall. If you're willing to drive a little bit further, Great Wall Supermarket is still better in selection. For the grand opening they are offering $1 coupons for the food court for every $20 spent and $2 after $60 on weekdays and $80 on weekends. I still like HMart a little bit better for quality

Yelp
When the Taiwanese bakery and all the take-out restaurants are open (from whole roasted ducks to all the delicacies), this 99 Ranch is pretty good; good variety, clean, modern. They got the Taiwanese (not Korean) shrimp crackers Hsia Wei Hsien. And a huge version of that too (See my picture). Lots of Lays' chips in Asian flavors such as crayfish. And today I came across some jellies with pineapple and peach flavors. Very nice.

Ayah X.

Yelp
Clean, spacious, many items . Ready to eat food is also very tasty. I recommend particularly their fish and seafood department. They can clean and cut the fresh fish you select anyway you want it done.

Yelp
My favorite Asian market--on both West and East coasts! I was excited when this location opened a few years ago in Gaithersburg...previously I had only been able to shop at Ranch 99 in Southern CA. I love the prepared food shops inside the market where you can purchase take out (fried crullers, soy milk, giant scallion pancakes, and tea eggs at Lu's Dumplings are super yummy)... This grocery is spacious and well-stocked, with a huge variety of grocery items, including many interesting and hard to find sauces, noodles, teas, dried and canned foods, as well as kitchen ware, household necessities, rice cookers, and water boilers/warmers...there is also a large produce section, with all types of greens (many difficult to find in regular groceries) as well as a fish and meat counter and a sizable frozen foods section. Service is almost always fast, relaxed, and efficient. This is a fun place to shop and I'm super glad we have one of these in the area...

Yelp
Pros: Chain Asian grocery store - they have these in CA so product is pretty consistent Lots of fresh produce options Good location with easy parking Love the in-store food stands Cons: Narrow aisles Hard to find someone to help Pro tip: Pick up some goodies from the food stands for your next meal. So many wonderful options!

Sylvie C.

Yelp
I visited during late lunch hours with a friend. I didn't know 99Ranch has such a wonderful selection of hot meal bars and meals ready-to-go. I normally visit the location in Fairfax and I was reluctant due to my experience from last year. I am so glad I went today. I was floored by how much heaping scoops of bento box items I received for just $11. It gave me a choice of 4 items to pack!!! The box barely closed because it was brimming with food!!!!. I chose spicy eggplant, tofu with cabbage, fried fish cutlet, and braised pork belly. It was all delicious. Omg. No complaints. I also got to taste wonton soup, cold bean jelly, Beef chow fun, fried sesame ball, curry chow fun stuffed puffy thing, Shanghai steamed and fried pork bun, as well as a gigantic fluffy scallion pancake. Can you tell I went out with a wonderful Taiwanese friend because of this mass amount of food ordered?!?! LOL gotta love the feast style lunch get together! I am looking forward to returning again in the future with my husband!!

William F.

Yelp
A great Asian supermarket that crosses between where Great Wall and HMart overlap. Went instead of going to HMart. Missed the kimchi pancakes in the fresh section. But loved the multiple stand food courts (and the sushi stand). Has some things we had to go to Great Wall for. So all in all a great store.

Sarah C.

Yelp
4 stars for their dang bakery - y'all get me every time..... I can't quit you :p It's soooo hard to just walk away after purchasing my usual unnecessary pocky grabs, misc flavored taiwanese wafers, and the totally important hello kitty squishy marshmallows. I have no fave bakery goods since I just grab what I'm craving on the spot but I do look for their sliced loaves of coconut any-crack. Heck they all pair well with mah plain hot organic hojicha, ppl. Hopefully the pics are helpful. 99.9999% of the time I post foodporn. Photos are more informative than reviews imo. But I'll still post reviews if it helps somehow. Honestly when I'm searching for food ideas I look for visuals first. Always. Anywho I'll be back.

Yelp
Refreshing to find this market after the closing of Lotte Market in Germantown, MD. This market needs to carry Las pulpas de fruitas para hugo.

Sue C.

Yelp
Clean and wide aisles Asian Grocery store with many on-site quick order options of premade meals and bbq meats. Great selection of fresh vegetables and fruits. There is also a great selection of fresh seafood and will fry for free. If you are interested in getting fresh fried fish, I suggest placing this order before you shop the rest of the store.

Nishat A.

Yelp
I love this place you can get fresh fish cut cleaned and fried however you wish. I love the ramen selection and the snack they have to offer are very versatile. The service is average and the ambience is like any other grocery store.

Benjamin T.

Yelp
I come here for all my Asian grocer needs. The snack selection is wholesome. The seafood come with complimentary fry and steam. The vegetable and meat selection for hotpot and Korean bbq is awesome! Things have changed since covid. When ever I go it's late so the hot food areas seem to close early. One of the best Asian grocers in the area!

Kathy C.

Yelp
Came here to pick up a roast duck for lunar new year. Walked around the store and noted their prices seem pretty comparable if not identical to the Hmart down the block. What differentiates them is that they have a ton of little food stations here! There's the bakery featuring extra large egg tarts which I didn't know existed until now. They have a congee station and bbq station with roast pork (cha siu), 3 types of ducks and crispy pork belly. There was also a pay per pound buffet bar. Seafood area was very clean and well maintained. Have not personally bought fresh seafood here but was told by relatives that they also offer to clean and fry/steam your fish which is nice. Overall, I would revisit. The whole roast duck was delicious and a good value!

Yelp
I usually do not write reviews, but today I am making an exception. I know that discrimination is going rampant here in our country. I never expected to experience it so blandly in broad light. I went to get some fish, and there were about 5 or 6 customers waiting, including me. When it was my turn to be helped, the associate just skipped me and went to the next customer, an Asian lady. I kindly let him know then that I was next in line, but he just ignored me. Another customer told him that I was the next to be served, and he just looked at us and proceeded to assist the Asian lady. UNBELIEVEABLE! I then went to the customer service to explain what just happened. The associate went back with me to the fish department, and asked him a question, in an Asian language. The guy was just dismissive, in a very matter-of-factly way. I have never seen something like this before, and I guess today everyone, even in grocery stores, can chose to discriminate against Black people. I left the store without being served and will NEVER shop there again. I am just sharing to raise awareness, and we need to stand up for ourselves to stop this kind of discrimination.

Meggie C.

Yelp
This updated review is for the grocery store it self. Easily one of my top 2 favorite in the area. It's clean, has variety, the roast meat section is good, and price is average. They have a lot of trendy asian snacks that others don't have. Parking is good too.

Vera J.

Yelp
Tons of Asian veggies to choose from. Many items were on sale. Cashiers were friendly. Food court was authentic and delicious. Really wish this were closer to where I live.

Anne R.

Yelp
Clean, cheaper than HMart and has more food options. We are an hour away but so worth the drive. They have more Filipino snacks and food options here too. I was so excited to see a lot of the stuff we couldn't find at HMart here. Seafood and produce are fresh and well stocked. They also fry fish or steam crabs or lobsters. They do charge 5c per bag, so bring your own. They also have food stands inside. We got there close to 7 and most of them were closed or they told us they were closing. Next time!

Yelp
After a couple of friends recommended that I check this place out, I had to oblige. Its where Sports Authority use to be. Plenty of parking! As you enter, there's a TenRen place. I definitely needed bubble tea. I ordered one thai milk tea. It was good. If you give them your phone number, you can earn rewards. Yay! They also had shaved ice cream which look amazing. Thats on my to do list for a later visit. Produce seems decent. But there isnt too much of a variety as compared to other Asian grocery stores. I couldn't find strawberries or blueberries:( Seafood dept is where is at. No smelly stench here. Everything looks fresh. Theyll stream n cook your seafood for you. Yay for crabs!! They have live crawfish here. I havent worked up the courage to try them. They have a few restaurants inside that I cant wait to try such as their duck wonton soup or their pork baos. They have a variety of ethics products. However name brand sauces might be cheaper at Wegmans or Giant. Employees here are nice and barely any waiting in line. My next trip Ill stop at the bakery.

Yelp
This is the Chinese market of my dreams. An expansive food court with the typical Chinese fare but it's all so good and only gets better. There's also steamed buns! I had the Sweet red bean paste, vegetable buns and pork buns! I had all three for under 4$. My personal favorite was the Sweet bean bun but you wouldn't be disappointed getting a few vegetable or pork buns either. Every part of this market is huge and has everything. Fresh seafood, food court, grocer section, frozen foods, pastries, etc. Anything I need from east Asia, I'm coming here first. Tip: if nobody is at the counter in the food market, ring the bell

Nancy L.

Yelp
This place has anything and everything Asian that you could dream of. Groceries, snacks, produce, bakery, and a cafe with various options of delicious Chinese favorites. Unlike a lot of other large Asian groceries, this place is clean, organized, and doesn't have a weird smell. It was mind blowing how cheap everything was! I was most excited about the food court. My friend and I each ordered a humongous soup, and endless dim sum favorites for under $20 each. On the way out we even stopped by the bakery to pick up a bunch of fluffy breads too. Of course we weren't able to finish any of it so we took it home to share with others. This is my new GO TO store.

Joe H.

Yelp
Be careful to check your receipt! I got home and found two items on my receipt that I didn't purchase. I don't even know what frozen Goyoza chicken is and would never ever buy coconut juice but they're both on my receipt!

James L.

Yelp
If you're Asian (especially Chinese) and from California, then you know about the legendary 99 Ranch Market. I say legendary since after being established in 1984, 99 Ranch Market became one of the first large regional Asian grocery stores. Whenever I'm out on the West Coast visiting my relatives, I always have to eat Dim Sum in Monterrey Park, CA and then hit up the nearby 99 Ranch off of W. Garvey Ave. Open since late-April 2018, this location in Gaithersburg is not as large as some of the other ones I've been too, but I do like that the interior is bright and the aisles wide enough for two carts to pass by. Don't get me wrong, I also love shopping at Korean groceries like Lotte and H Mart, but my preference is to always lean towards majority Chinese groceries since they carry more of the stuff I like. Items such as: * A variety of Vita Soy box drinks, including the Chrysanthemum Tea * The always hard to find Taiwanese style "Long Life" rice noodles (https://www.99ranch.com/asian-noodles/sunlight-long-life-noodle) * the largest selection of Lee Kum Kee sauces Produce section looked fine and so did the fresh seafood, although for folks not familiar with Asian grocery stores, I can understand how the smell of fresh seafood can be overpowering. I will say that the frozen food selection was quite impressive. I counted at least 5 aisles of refrigerated cases carrying everything from frozen buns, to pre-diced lemongrass, and a large array of fish/meat/shrimp balls. But the real reason I love coming to 99 Ranch is the food court. This location has an AWESOME food bar where for $7.99 you can self-select a variety of items from lo mein noodles, fried rice, stewed pork belly, sauteed veggies, peel/eat deep fried shrimp, etc. And then there is also a section for roasted meats like Char Siu, crispy skin pork, and soy sauce chicken. For less than $12 I had quite the feast and left-overs to take home for the next day's lunch. There are also stalls for a Ten-Ren tea for Boba drinks, a Korean as well as a Taiwanese food vendor. If I lived near this store, I promise you I would be here at least 3-4 days/week for takeout meals. 99 Ranch Market currently operates in seven states (https://www.99ranch.com/stores) with this location being their first in the DMV. I only hope they expand across the border to VA soon!

Natasha S.

Yelp
I used to do my shopping at 99 Ranch when I lived in CA. While this location doesn't have everything some of the CA stores have to offer, it's still one of the best in the DMV! They have a great selection of produced, dried goods, fresh products, frozen products, meats and seafood. They carry more options versus H-Mart is mostly Korean. The food court has some solid vendors. We've gotten dim sum, hot pot and roasted duck from the vendors - and everything was good! During the pandemic, they even offered delivery through 3rd party vendors which was super convenient. Prices are reasonable. Store is clean. Service is good. Parking is plentiful even when they're at their busiest!

Jasmine G.

Yelp
Finally went to this Asian Market and they hooked this place up! If you are into asian food and items. This is the spot for you! I always cook chinese and filipino dishes so I love my asian markets!! lol Not only do they sell asian products they sell fresh produce as well. The first day I went the produce was "ok". Some of the items were not is good condition for the price listed and then some were at a very great pricing! The store was CLEAN! and easy to find things. I usually go to these markets for the fresh seafood. They don't have too many deals yet on the fresh fish. I know its always a hit or miss, but I got some Porgies and they only thing I did not like about the service is that they do not "BUTTERFLY CUT" the fish!!! Like WHY NOT? that is mandatory. HMART and LOTTE DOES! Ugh! That hurt my heart, but its whatever. lol I got some Taiwanese sesame balls from the restaurant section and those were so good!! They are HUGE! You can get 4 for like $3.80! Good deal! I also tried their pork and dumplings. Very good!! Parking is a sweet setup and they have carts everywhere so your good! Customer service was good on the floor but the seafood department can be a little friendlier. (I'm just saying lol) I definitely will go here again and try out some items from their bakery and tea shop! Its a nice store to hit!!

Thomas W.

Yelp
The size and depth of this Asian market is perhaps unmatched in the Mid-Atlantic area. 99 Ranch Market is a model for the variety of Asian food that most places should emulate. The barbecued meats are really exceptional. Asian food courts are not places that have been appealing to me, as Asian markets are usually places where I order take out. I suppose I can understand the criticism if one looks at 99 Ranch as a restaurant, but I would argue that you are missing the point. 99 Ranch offers a multitude of food really meant for you to bring home and make your own meal. For that I think 99 Ranch Market deserves much praise!

Tanya L.

Yelp
Ummmmmmm, yeah....I'm not going to lie. This is my favorite pan-Asian grocery store. It's super clean, has a crapload of variety, and I can get in and out relatively quickly (except for looking for things I completely do not need). The bathrooms are clean. People are nice. Quality of most of the produce is great. Sometimes it does feel like a CF and you do have to search sometimes for specific things you need. I can find most of what I need and hit Costco in the same trip (because I apparently am a glutton for punishment). Prices are cheaper to decent in comparison to other grocery stores. The parking lot has ample space. I haven't tried the hot offerings yet. I know from family members that they have enjoyed the food. JK, I lie, I forgot that I did get some steamed BBQ pork buns. My family did not enjoy them too much but we have high expectations of steam char siu buns. I'm sure others might like them. There's a TenRen in there too. All in all, definitely my favorite pan-Asian grocery to shop at (despite a Great Wall down the street from me).

Mapk L.

Yelp
This place is amazing. So many options, so many selections. Nice and clean. Very comfortable while shopping. There are food court area, very convenient and delicious. I've been here more than 20 times. Will keep coming back. Check out my trunk, good stuff!

Mike B.

Yelp
I've been to a lot of Asian Markets in the MD Burbs. Even more so since me and T have been going steady. And I can confidently, and unabashedly say that 99 Ranch is one of my favorites. It's not just the fresh produce. It's not just the wide selection of products. It's not just that it's particularly clean for a supermarket It's not just that they have a section with fresh treats like baos, shrimp stuffed eggplant, Chinese BBQ meats It's not just that they sometimes have Costco style tasting tables out. It's not just that the parking is easy It's not just that they have a little bubble tea stand (Ten Ren's) inside. It's not just that they have a really good selection of sliced meats and other menagerie for hot pot It's not just that the prices are reasonable It's not just that the cashiers are quick and efficient It's not just that I'd drive out of the way to go to this one over other Asian Markets. It's not just that the bathroom doesn't look like a murder scene It's that! When you spend a certain amount of money, they give you these fake dollars that you can go over and spend at the bakery. So I think you get like a dollar for 10 or 15 bucks you spend, and you go immediately use those Ranch 99 dollars. The last time I got a loaf of fresh bread. The time before that I got a scallion hot dog bun thing. I LOVE THIS! Why don't more people give me monopoly money :) So fun!

Ling B.

Yelp
The store is very clean. It has lots of Asian stuff and the quality is very good. It has some Asian stalls as well but when I went there on Wednesday night , many of them were closed. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to get Asian items here. The cashier was polite , not too friendly but she's ok . I'd go back when I visit the area.

Jess C.

Yelp
Only place I know where they will not only clean and cut your fish, but also deep fry them! We got the Japanese hamachi fish and opted for the extra crispy fry that was a bit too dry. We ended up taking hike a nicely prepared fish wrapped up in paper and handed over like a fresh baguette. The extra crispy fry option made the fish a bit too dry so next time we will try the regular fry. Pro tip-if you're going to get the fish, go ahead and grab a plastic basket on the counter behind the fish and tongs and/or plastic bag to pick up your own fish. The staff will come and ring up your basket I didn't realize it was self serve and ended up wasting a lot of time waiting for service. There is also a prepared food and dim sum section in front of store that we enjoyed. Each dim sum piece is 1.25 so we filled up on fish cakes and shu mai and fried tofu. They also have two types of banana leaf wrapped sticky rice - Guang dong style and Taiwanese style. Both were great. If you get the take out box of prepared foods- they have a combo plate or takeout box without rice. We ordered the medium size takeout box for ~$6/7 and they were so generous with stuffing it. I also was surprised they did not differentiate between meat and veg dish prices. We arrived shortly after the store open at 9, and they did not replenish the produce yet. It wasn't til 11am when they finally started to restock the fresh veggies.

Nixon Grace J.

Yelp
The grocery items are okay but not as many when compared to Houston TX branch. Lesser choices for cook meals only 3 choices and a bakery and food does not accept credit cards. Seafood choices are good. Produce is not as many in Lotte grocery which is about 2 miles away. But I will be back to this store.

Pamela H.

Yelp
Very clean, with bright lights, a great assortment, and very fresh produce I will be frequenting this store as I alter my diet this year!

Lisa L.

Yelp
This was our first visit to this Maryland location. We have been to several locations in Los Angeles before, and they are very popular over there. We used to stock up on our favorite food items before heading back to the east coast because the prices were very reasonable. I can now say it won't be necessary to travel far for grocery shopping any more, and we can buy everything we need in Gaithersburg, which is actually larger and cleaner. Prices are good as long as items are on sale such as meats, sauces, and cookies/snacks. This store is also better in terms of variety when compared to Great Wall Market and New York Mart.

Will C.

Yelp
99 Ranch is a solid option for Taiwanese-Chinese (Asian) groceries in the greater DC area, especially when compared to the Great Wall in Rockville. What stands out first about 99 Ranch is just the physical appearance of the store--large, airy, and fairly neat. It doesn't feel nearly as claustrophobic as the Great Wall in Rockville, and getting in/out of the parking lot is much easier. Overall selection is pretty good thanks in part to its larger size. The produce section is arranged pretty well, though the overall quality is comparable to Great Wall, so okay rather than great. Sauces and frozen dumplings are also areas of strong selection, though I agree with another reviewer who points out that the snack selection is rather weak. (I had a hard time finding pineapple cakes that I wanted to send to a friend) Prices are comparable to Great Wall, though there's variability by produce. For instance, frozen soup dumplings are about 50 cents cheaper than GW, but the green onion crackers I like are 50 cents more. There do seem to be a few more sales though, with a lot of them clearly marked and displayed in prominent places, which I appreciated. Biggest weakness with 99 Ranch is still the store organization, which was cluttered despite its size, making it hard to find things. For instance, in most Chinese supermarkets, noodles, tofu, wonton skins, etc--prepackaged items that need to keep refrigerated--are generally kept in the same area in the store. At 99 Ranch, there were at least two or three areas where these items were spread out, which meant that I'm still not sure if 99 Ranch carries Sun's packaged ramen or not. Similarly, canned drinks don't have their own dedicated aisle, but are placed on top of the open freezers for dumpling and seafood, which run the length of the store. So while I'd be surprised if 99 Ranch doesn't carry canned winter melon tea, I did not see it as I island-hopped from one open freezer to another. No full-fledged food court, unfortunately, but the takeout bento/BBQ/dim sum corner is reasonably priced and the employee was friendly. Customer service, at least based on this first, single visit, was decent rather than dismissive. I'm not sure how 99 Ranch Gaithersburg compares with its Fairfax counterpart or the GWs in Germantown and Fairfax, but it's closest acceptable option to me and it's good enough. I just wish the produce were a little better quality--cleaned, wrapped--and that the store was better organized.

Yelp
You spend any amount of time on the west coast, you know 99 Ranch as one of the giants of Asian supermarkets. Honestly they were never really my favorite back then, but they got the job done. I've been here long enough to learn of the giant known as H Mart, and while they have a lot going for them, their price tag is just too damn high. But not here. Everything I know from the classic locations are here. Wide grocery aisles, a fish section ready to deep fry my picks whole for home, and hot food that includes BBQ pork, dim sum, and to-go box DIY section. Stuff that's elevated even among Ranches include the bakery (they're okay) and Ten Ren Tea, a boba name I actually recognize. My thoughts for Ten Ren are the same for this Ranch - wasn't my favorite before, but out here it's a front runner. Biggest thing going for them is pricing and seasonals. I can buy a packet of sliced meat here without feeling I have to empty my entire wallet for decent quality. And in the recent moon cake season, 99 had multiple tables across and was pretty much the only place I could find some of the better ones. I hate making the drive to Gaithersburg just for Asian food shopping. But H Mart kills my wallet and I don't like the mosh pit that is the Great Wall Parking lot. For once Ranch has a leg up, and has my endorsement.

Cynthia L.

Yelp
If you love nothing else about this place, love that you get "coupons" for buying stuff you were already going to buy, that you can then redeem for free food at the bakery or prepared foods counter. Holla! Here's a breakdown of what I love (and don't love) about this chain: Pros: dim sum foods (for that craving you're having and when dim sum isn't open), prepared foods (stuff as much as you want cause it's One price for a box, as long as you am close the box!), food stands, fresher meats and better quality cuts of the same things that I've seen at other similar, local Asian supermarkets Cons: Limited selection of canned and dry goods as well as vegetables and fruit, compared to other similar, local Asian supermarkets Totally worth checking out if you ask me

Ann C.

Yelp
So with Kam Sam and Meixin closing, I figured I had to hike out to Virginia to get my Asian supermarket fix (or at the very least, head to HMart on Georgia Avenue). Was excited to hear 99 Ranch has found its way to MoCo. It's a nice location and big, and while the hot bar needs a little work, I love having the option of a decent Asian supermarket in our neck of the woods.

Mia S.

Yelp
I'm going to be honest, I had to walk around once to get familiarized with the store and find out where everything was because this place is massive! It's located by Lakeforest Mall where the Sports Authority use to be. The grand opening was recently so parking can get full but still plenty of spaces to park. I visited 99 Ranch for their eatery not so much for the grocery part. Upon entering you will pass the bakery section towards the left which I had to stop of course. They had a lot of choices from pastries, mini and regular sized cakes, and even egg custards! Walk a few steps further, you get options for food. Beef noodle soup, dim sum, hot pot, and a mini self-serve food bar. Warning: many of the employees at the food court had a difficult time communicating in English so just point with your finger. I did the self-serve and got a little bit of everything. Food was decent (fried fish was delicious). They don't weigh your container so feel free to get as much food as you wish. My parents had to-go dim sum from their previous visit so I had a chance to taste the egg plant with brown sauce and shrimp balls before actually coming here...delicious! The seating area is small so just a heads up. I walked around from aisle to the next and landed by the bubble tea section. I didn't get a chance to try it but saving it for my next visit. When you buy a certain amount of groceries they give you vouchers which you can use that same day anywhere in the store. My parents handed me two $1 vouchers and I used it at the bakery to get a chocolate croissant. It was surprisingly good! They have plenty of deals for their groceries and prices seemed reasonable. Glad it's near home! I'll be back x 100.

Yelp
I was thrilled when I found out that 99 Ranch was opening in this area. I've only ever been to the Jersey City location so I wasn't sure what to expect. When I arrived the day after their grand opening, I found the place packed to the gills. Apparently, I wasn't the only one who was excited! The store is clean and well-organized. They have a nice variety of Asian goods from what I can tell. (I'm usually looking for Filipino items. I was pretty pleased!) The prices are on par with the area, and they have some excellent grand opening deals available through 5/3/18. Most non-perishables are organized based on the type of item, not on the region or country. So if you're used to just going to the same one or two aisles, that won't be the case here. I bought some produce and shrimp, and honestly can't complain about anything. In the seafood section, you can purchase fish and have it cleaned, steamed, and fried on the spot. (Can we say "easy dinner?") Samples were available throughout the store. Not sure if this will be a daily thing or only available during the weekends going forward. This made it even more difficult to navigate the store. I would recommend shopping weekday evenings or early mornings to avoid this. In addition to the grocery store, they have a food court area selling dim sum (3 pieces for $2.85), Ten Ren bubble tea, a bakery, Tofu Town (soondobu), and Asian Kitchen (congee and noodle soups). I didn't see a place to sit and eat so I'm assuming everything is for takeaway. I tried the dim sum, and most of it was just okay. Probably the best thing I ate were the fried shrimp balls. The shu mai was dry and the sesame balls were slightly underdone and definitely underfilled. Oh well! For the most part, I'm happy with my experience, and I look forward to coming back for my favorite Filipino goods!

Yelp
This store is pretty fun to shop in. I find myself coming here when I'm looking to pick up a few things, but usually need to make a stop elsewhere to finish my list. The left side of the store is a food court. There are several stations with it's own cashier selling ramen, dim sum, a bakery, and a station or order roasted meat. The dim sum bar was first on the list to try. It has a decent selection. I love that you purchase it by the piece, rather than having to order several of one kind. I've tried it twice now, and both times was disappointed by the quality. The items taste dry, as if they have been sitting a bit too long. It would also be nice if they would label what each item was. The bakery is worth a second look. I picked up a few of the mini cheesecakes and they were delicious. I will definitely pick up something from this area again. The seafood department has a great selection. They have options where you can have the fish prepared for you. The tanks are clean and the fish seem "active", I hope it stays this way in time. The produce section is where I have a lot of trouble with this store. The vegetables are hit or miss with freshness and they have a very limited amount of fruit. It's pretty difficult to purchase what you need for the week when there are several staple items (most recently broccoli) that are looking old and shouldn't even be on the floor. Hopefully this place works out the kinks, the food court area is really well done compared to some of the other asian markets in the area. It really sets 99 Ranch apart. Oh p.s. ... its "99" because they are open from 9-9. You're welcome.

Yelp
This is a much cleaner Asian market than every other one in the area. Bright, fresh and smells a lot better. There is still a little bit of that funk smell when you walk in, but nothing like usual. Also, as others have mentioned it is organized in a much more logical way. You don't have to guess if the sauce you are looking for is in the Chinese, Japanese, Cantonese, Philippines, Latin or Vietnamese aisle... everything is all grouped together. Seafood seems on par with other Asian markets. There is a good selection. Some of the stuff still seems weird to buy by the pound (clams, crabs, etc) as I'm used to seeing them by count. But there is a full selection. Oysters were $1 each, which seemed high to me as you can get them for that price shucked, on ice with cocktail sauce. Again, be nice to see a per-dozen or box price. There was no indication of where they were harvested from either. The food court has nice options but there is not enough seating. I went in to try it out this week for lunch and all tables were taken or being saved. You could wedge yourself in between groups but it wasn't a welcoming plop yourself down environment. Seating area is wedged back in a corner as opposed to being open in front of all the eateries. Kept me from trying it, although the stands look nice.

Yelp
I prefer 99 Ranch than any other Asian market in town. Both VA & MD locations are more clean than others

Yelp
It took a family member to come visit us to find this market. We've been to one in another state and it has a lot of items you can't dine at your average market. Items typically from Asia. We came here hoping to find Assam Black Tea. Unfortunately, we didn't not find it. The one in TX has it so we thought it would carry it. I hope they add it to their inventory because we'd purchase them regularly.

Yelp
The $7.99 self-serve lunch was an excellent deal. Pretty much rice/noodle and your choice of anything else that can fit in the container. The braised pork belly and fried fish were really good, but the sesame chicken was cold, tasted old, and mostly breading. Definitely worth getting again

Yelp
This place is so clean and smells good - I hope it stays this way for a while! It has a lot of great stuff from many different Asian cultures. As a mostly Japanese food shopper who doesn't have any big local grocery stores yet, this place may slightly surpass Lotte and Hmart for options. That being said, there are both pros and cons to this place: Pros: - The LaoMa dry hotpot is so delicious!!! They have a lot of options of mix-ins and even if you accidentally buy a lot, it makes great leftovers. The la and ma of the dish really hits the spot. - The pastries are actually pretty good. The Asian-style cupcakes are fluffy and mild, and the cakes are fairly tasty without being overly sweet or artificial like some Chinese bakeries. - As others have mentioned, the organization to not segregate by country makes way more sense and makes it fun to discover similar, interesting items from different cultures. Cons: - I haven't tried the live seafood, but the sushi grade fish isn't great. I got some ikura as it was placed on the shelf and ended up with very bad digestion afterwards. - The dim sum is okay, though a bit large and oily. Pretty tasty though and not the funkiness that I've had from dim sum from more questionable places. - As others have said, there's somewhat limited produce (especially fruits!), which might prevent this place from being a one-stop shop. Overall, clean place with lots of options, but stay wary of freshness. I look forward to seeing how it'll evolve over the years!

Yelp
Living in DC, I am so thankful for this place, though I do wish it were closer - 45 minute drive. This place has become my Asian Costco, and since it's quite a drive, I definitely stock up on everything. I can find everything I need that sustains my Chinese/Taiwanese/Japanese/Korean food cravings. They also have live lobsters/crabs/shrimps/fish, and they will steam or fry them for you. Great service always, and grateful for their hard work.

Yelp
Finally!!!! 99 Ranch has come to Maryland! For those that don't know, 99 Ranch is a Chinese grocery store, similar to how H Mart and Lotte are Korean grocery stores. This 99 Ranch also has a Ten Rens and food court area where you can get roasted items (duck, pork, chicken), dim sum, dry spicy hot pot, and a la carte cooked items. There's also a bakery to get cakes, buns, and breads. Gotta love it when everything is new, shiny, and clean! Hope it stays that way for a while.

Yelp
99 Ranch will always be a special place for me as it was my go-to Chinese supermarket when I was living in Los Angeles. From Alhambra/San Gabriel to Irvine or Cupertino, 99 Ranch always offered clean/affordable goods, as well as tasty food/pastry options. This was my first visit to the Gaithersburg store and my first time going to any 99 Ranch in several years. Without a doubt, I absolutely prefer 99 Ranch over Great Wall--especially since the one by Mosaic SUCKS... Talk about some poor quality meat and a really depressing shopping experience. We are really looking forward to the grand opening of 99 Ranch Fairfax (old Super H-Mart)!!

Yelp
I work right down the street from this Asian grocery store and for the longest time I assumed it would be a dollar store. The "99" really confused me and this chain doesn't exists where I'm from. For the first time in a while I was excited to be extremely wrong! I have to admit I was nervous about how well 99 Ranch Market would do in Gaithersburg. Between H-Mart, New York Mart, and Lotte there's a lot of players in the Asian market game in this area. However; after visiting 99 Ranch Market I have to say it's in the top two...it may be the best one. The first thing I noticed was how much parking there is. I pulled into a spot right away without problems. Once inside everything was so shiny and clean! Obviously 99 Ranch Market is still new but employees are definitely keeping it clean. When you walk in you'll find the bakery to the left. Keep going and you'll find yourself some small food stalls. I'm not 100% sure when the stalls stop serving but at 7:30pm (Wednesday) the stalls were empty and being cleaned. There is a Tea stall that was still open to the right when you walked in. The store itself offers a lot of options, I found my favorite Japanese snacks, Korean baked goods, and the best Chinese steamed buns. I also noticed that every section (meat, seafood, produce, frozen) were large and in charge. I was able to find everything I needed inside which typically results in a trip to two separate stores. This is a great option for anyone grocery shopping. There's deals and sales located throughout the store that are clearly marked for customers. I'll be back and am hoping to try some food at one of the stalls.

Yelp
99 Ranch is a great grocery store. They sell so many items. I will have to get seafood next time.

Yelp
This review is solely based on my experience with their food court since I didn't buy any grocery there yet. The three roasted item bento box (三寶飯)I got had lots of BBQ pork and tons of duck neck BUT no duck meat!! (I understand a few duck neck is okay but they are all neck like really?!) and the dim sum I got turnip cake the first bite into it I saw white powder (raw flour?!) This is not okay to serve half cooked food... I gave them 2 star only because overall the staff are pretty friendly but I probably won't return for their food court food.
