5 Restaurants to Try This Weekend in NYC - Eater NY

"Wandering around 99 Ranch Market in downtown Jersey City is one of my favorite ways to spend an afternoon. The massive supermarket is full of harder-to-find Asian groceries from lotus root to trout roe to pork buns. There’s an entire aisle for tea, tons of frozen dumplings and soups, and most of the items I’m sort of unable to identify because they’re not in English. The entire experience ends in a food court, with various stalls for dim sum, ramen, boba tea, a bakery, and buffet stir-fry dishes, all for very reasonable prices." - Eater Staff

Google
99 Ranch Market is a large supermarket that offers a variety of Asian and American groceries. I usually come here for the fresh produce.... there is always a great selection of fresh fruits, veggies, and herbs. There is also a fish market, meat market, and bakery. They also have food court with dine in options and also a Coco tea! There is plenty of parking, and the market is ADA compliant.

Google
Best produce with fair prices, better than any other grocery store in town. I’ll keep driving the 35 mins to come out here to get my produce. Keep up the great work, I highly recommend 99 Ranch Market. 💯 🔥 ✊🏽

Google
2 stars for the reasonable grocery prices. Customer service is unresponsive and horrible. The food court people will leave you standing there for 5 to 10 minutes like you don't exist. Their own employees will purposefully cut the line and block you from finishing a purchase. Worse customer experience I have ever had from a grocery store anywhere in the world.

Google
I used to enjoy shopping at 99 Ranch Market for groceries in Dallas, TX. When I discovered there was one close to NYC, I decided to pay a visit. I particularly like the food court and enjoyed a delicious lunch box with three dishes. However, I noticed that the prices of goods and food were slightly higher compared to Chinatown in NYC. Additionally, there's been an increase in products from mainland China. As a fan of Taiwanese snacks, I couldn't find what I was looking for this time. Maybe I'll have better luck next time.

Google
Many meat/tofu are noticeably old. Some items that I usually buy at other Asian grocery stores are selling months after expiration/ best before date at this place. I was truly shocked as other 99 ranches I've been in other states are much much better

Google
They have a solid selection of fresh produce. You can find most of your ingredients for Asian cuisine here. Tofu, rice cakes, dumplings, miso, seaweed, seasonings, dried anchovies, you name it. Prices are fair. There’s also a bakery as well as restaurants and a bubble tea spot.

Google
I love the variety of food but unfortunately I didn’t find a pork 🧠. Will definitely come back and check again, and if they have pork brain, I will become happy and maybe raise a five star.

Google
Don’t buy sea food from here spent 80 dollars on fresh live lobster cooked same day. After eat gave us FOOD POSING we called them they said bring the receipt and food back. When we got to the store they made up extra steps they wanted a medical report and other things. They did nothing for us not even a refund. Please save your money, time and health!

Yelp
They slightly revised the format of the buffet-type section. The $12.99 four-item was massive; anything who finishes it is a first ballot Yelp Elite. Highlights included spicy tofu and greens that looked straightforward but had a subtle mustard-wastabi influence (I'll revise if I find out what it actually was). The packaged beverage section remains a standout. At this moment I'm enjoying a Mr. Brown vanilla iced coffee.

Yelp
It's a good place to get Asian groceries, but be careful about the the expiry date. Today I grabbed some snacks and only when I got home I realized it's two months past expiration date. They should definitely be more attentive about the shelf inventory. Service is nonexistent - tried calling them but no one answered.

Yelp
Asian market located in downtown Jersey City. It has a decent sized parking lot and is easily accessed off of Grand St. This is a huge Asian market with an extensive selection for all types of Asian food. The produce section is huge with all types of Asian produce. Probably the best department in the store. They also have a large butcher department and a seafood department that has frozen and a lot of fresh and live seafood selections. There are a couple restaurants located within the market as well as a bubble tea store which is always busy. There is a food court if you want to eat in. If you need any Asian grocery items, produce, meats, or seafoods this is the place to go on Jersey City.

Yelp
Food (3/5): There is a solid selection of Asian snacks, food items, and other goods. Additionally, there are several restaurants inside the building and nearby with decent offerings. Overall, most of the groceries are overpriced compared to what you could get in Flushing. However, this is conveniently in Jersey City which is why I go here. We got items like mangoes, snacks, dumplings and so on. Overall the quality is good and as expected but the prices were higher. Service (3/5): Not particularly friendly service and they mostly try to get you rung up fast. Sometimes it is difficult to ask questions about where items are and get a good answer. Ambiance (3/5): Reasonably spacious asian grocery store. It's mostly clean but there could be improvements. Since it's the only major Asian store offering in the Jersey City area, there isn't really any other convenient option around.
google avatar

Yelp
Staffs are friendly. There's a variety of Asian food however, it is a bit more pricier than NYC Chinatown. The store is big with outside an parking lot.

Yelp
I wish I could visit this grocery store more often. There is a huge variety of food in this store to choose from. They also have a section for dine-in food like ramen, a bakery, boba shop (Coco), and a room for claw machines. Whenever there is something new to try that is introduced through social media, I think of coming here to see if they have it. They usually do. Prices are quite fair too. Try coming here for your groceries next time if you haven't tried.

Yelp
I love this supermarket. Its filled with Asian items and everything congregated into a nice and spacious spot. I loved that there are some food stores inside like bakeries, fast food stands, and other. I loved the experience. It wasn't crowded and it offered large variety of asian choices, condiments, meat, veggies, and other. Definitely a wonderful one-stop place to shop for anything Asian : )

Yelp
Funny. I'd written a review of this store weeks ago, giving them 3.5 stars with every expectation they'd improve. Just had my 3rd visit today, and improve they did. Originally, I did not see much of an advantage for choosing them over HMart Jericho, other than the proximity (About half as far). Then, yesterday, I saw a photo of a Chinatown roast duck option in their prepared foods area. Today I checked it out, and what they are providing is an automatic five star situation. In the past, to get duck like this, I had to go to Queens. A few suburban Chinese food places had duck on their menu, but you suspected it was not their specialty, and if you ordered it you knew the whole story. If there are not ducks hanging in formation, it just isn't it. 99 Ranch has just saved me 20 miles to get the food I crave. My only quibble is that the options were whole duck or half. A quarter would have done it for me, but the leftovers won't last long. Down the counter from the duck is a very appealing dim sum section - my wife raved about the sesame bean paste ball, and I cheated on my diet with a Chinese donut. Dim sum is priced at 3 items for $4.50. I'd say HMart is 60+ per cent Asian, with the rest being a regular supermarket. 99 Ranch is more like 80%, and that is fine with me. Their seafood department is obviously an important thing for them, and we've tried their salmon filet, giving it high ratings. This time I found the Chinese eggplant, which had eluded me before. We'd still like to see frozen seaweed dumplings, but otherwise, this store is a game changer, and they will be seeing lots of us.

Yelp
For those who love to cook, try unique foods, or have a passion for Asian cuisine, 99 Ranch is a great market to visit for specialty Asian foods, produce, and ingredients.

Yelp
I love ranch 99!! The best place to get your Chinese groceries!! I also love going to the food court to get their roast duck or roast pork!! So good!

Yelp
New Jersey always has a larger selection of Asian markets and items. Loved all the fresh ingredients and huge varieties of dried goods and snacks. My friend and I were looking for goods you don't typically get in a small traditional Asian supermarket: Singaporean, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean and Filipino. This place had a lot to choose from and temptation often got the best of us as we grabbed based on impulse buy. I even found my beloved Ube macapuno ice cream, durian mochi and Malaysian white coffees here. But like many human beings, you can only eat so much in a 2 week radius before your next grocery run. Next time I'll be prepared and to make room for those rare meat cuts you can only get here that's suitable for barbecues. Nom nom.

Pat S.

Yelp
I went grocery shopping and today again they overcharged me for items. If you shop at this place - go over your bill very carefully afterwards to make sure that the billing was for the correct number of items and the right price.

Yelp
My go-to Asian market in Jersey City. The selection of produce and the freshness is unbeatable here. There is such a huge variety of vegetables to pick from! Lots of frozen meals (dumplings, buns, you name it) and there's a decent fresh seafood selection too. Prices here are fantastic. Highly recommend.

Bonnie W.

Yelp
I shop here for fresh vegetables and particularly like the Bok Choy which comes in several varieties. The store is filled with Asian foods, not only from China but also Korean, Japanese, Thailand, etc.I love this supermaket and have told all my friends who go to Manhattan to shop to give this a try. The delivery service is excellent

Yelp
Giving this a review after going to this supermarket for 4 years now and seeing a few things change that are worth mentioning: 1. This is still the best Asian supermarket. It's clean, well organized, and offers a large variety of Asian groceries. 2. The produce section is very good, normally fresh, and most prices are reasonable. It's ironic though that common American produce here tends to be pricier than if you buy it in a normal supermarket. 3. There's only one aisle that sells some American staple foods, but the prices are jacked up. So you would be better off going to a regular supermarket for those. 4. They used to offer great sales on various items and frozen foods, but not anymore. anything that is on sale now is often not popular and usually not worth buying. 5. They predominantly have Chinese foods. With limited selections of Korean, Japanese, and Thai foods among a few other Asian offerings. 6. The seafood section has gone downhill. The prices are OK, and that dreaded chemical shy smell is light but present. They have some live seafood available like lobster and crabs, but you will often find old fish in the bins. So keep a close eye on your selections. 7. The bakery is just plain bad. While it has a lot of enticing-looking pastries at reasonable prices, they are often old and flavorless. Looks can be deceiving, just steer away. 8. The Ramen Green shop is a Chinese knock-off of the old Japanese Kitikana Ramen stall that was originally there. While the menu is a mirror image, the taste is not. If you compare both, you would find the ramen, Choshu, and karage are not as flavorful. It's not bad, it's just not touching the original. 9. The customer service department is great and fast. They didn't give me a hard time when I had a return. Overall, I still like Ranch 99 a lot, but not as much as before. It's still the best Asian market in the area, but at this point, if an H-Mart or Mistuwa like restaurant pops up, they could easily take the crown.

Yelp
PROS 1. Housemade Strawberry and Cheese Danish is Delicious! 2. Housemade Custard Bun is Deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelicious. 3. The Japanese Noodle Restaurant is Delicious. I love the Fried Chicken Noodle Soup. 4. Plenty of Badia Seasonings. I was Happy to see Ceylon Cinnamon Sticks which are Healthier than Regular Cinnamom Sticks. 5. Plenty of Mexican brand Seasonings. 6. A Huge variety of Exotic and Non Exotic Produces. 9. Canadian Beef Shanks are the Best in Jersey City. 10. A Huge variety of Noodles. 11. A Huge variety of Dried Sweets. 12. The Lee Kum Kee Premium Bouillon Chicken Flavor is Soo Good and Healthy (Gluten Free, No MSG and Natural Flavors) it has my kitchen and living room smelling like freshed cooked chicken but Im not even cooking chicken! Ha ha 13. BBQ Leg Quarter Chicken is Flavorful. 14. Vegetable Egg Fried Rice is well made. 15. Baked Red Bean Bun is perfectly sweetened. 16. Dark Chocolate Coco Pie is Delicious. 17. Alot of Goya Latin Brand products. 18. Boneless BBQ Pork was Tender and Delicious with some Steam White Rice.

Yelp
It's the only option Asians have in a 10-mile radius. I've been coming here for years. There is variety in groceries (produce in particular) but it's hit-or-miss on how fresh or how rotten they are. As others have noted, it's not surprising to find expired goods here. I want to voice a particularly disappointing visit I had over this weekend. I went to the fish section and ordered one of the "Live Tilapia." I put this in quotes because after returning home and making said fish in a dish, I realized what the fish cleaner gave me is likely an already-frozen tilapia this dude pulled out of the freezer. As anyone who's been here knows, the workers clean the fish behind an unviewable section of sinks and shelving. You can't tell what they're doing to the fish nor if they're actually working on the fish you selected. I say my fish was likely frozen because when I took it out of the fridge, the fish was rock hard. Unless fish experience rigor mortis when killed, I have no other explanation for how a "Live Tilapia" would all of a sudden be rock hard throughout. Even after I steamed this fish, the middle section was hardened and clearly not fresh nor tender. Deeply disappointing and honestly this is the kind of low-grade cheap tactics I expect from some 3rd world vendor halfway around the world. Not my local 99 Ranch. Such a joke.

Yelp
The food isn't good, it's very bland and tastes like it's not seasoned but if you want cheap food and a lot of it, then this is great
google avatar

Mel T.

Yelp
Prices are a little bit higher than Asian markets in Brooklyn/Queens, but it's the closest Asian market to Hoboken/Jersey City. You do get a larger selection of goods here though. Aside from Chinese products, you'll find some Japanese products, and a pretty big selection of Filipino products. For every $20 you spend, you get a $1 coupon to use at the food court. The food court isn't bad if you want a quick lunch. They have dim sum, Chinese BBQ, self serve buffet ($8.99 per box), ramen, jianbing, bubble tea, and a Chinese bakery. If I had the option, I'd still pick the markets in Brooklyn over 99 Ranch because it's cheaper. But I'll still come here just because it's more conveniently located to where I live.

Bonnie W.

Yelp
I shop at 99 Ranch on a regular basis for bok choy, tofu, ginger, and various Chinese condiments. The prices for these items are fair and fresh and are stocked at my local 99 Ranch Market in Jersey City. The bakery is always well stocked and the ready made food counter is appetizing. I would not buy toilet paper or paper towels here but you can't beat this supermakret for Asian food items.

Hoover L.

Yelp
So nice to have an asian market in JC! The prices are good, its clean and organized, the fish selection is good also..
google avatar

Damian D.

Yelp
Solid place. Some of the produce is terrific, but what I really come here for are the frozen food choices. Dumplings, scallion pancakes, shumai, that sort of thing. Great stuff to have in the freezer for drop in guests. Condiments too-soy, dumpling sauce, hot sauces, they have a whole aisle devoted to it. And everything is inexpensive!
google avatar

Jeannette L.

Yelp
REVIEW UPDATE: 99 Ranch Market in JC became one of our go-to for produce shopping over the past year. I've always been a fan of this asian grocery (see 2017 review - still holds), but it's proven to be a solid spot when looking for fresh produce and asian products and market items during Covid. Also, on every trip over there, we make sure to order boba milk teas to-go before heading out. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Amy N.

Yelp
Great asian supermarket with a variety of produce, snacks, and there's even a small food court inside. While I love the options, I would just be sure to check expiration dates and moldy produce. I bought a sleeve of garlic the other day and while the outside seemed fine, the bottoms and tops that were hidden was covered in mold making them unusable.
google avatar

Yelp
Groceries? Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. Not exclusively, but mostly. Despite being no more than 4 minutes down the road from my apartment, I never gave The Ranch the time of day. I never looked it up, never asked questions, and never went in. Until one day, not too long ago, where pandemic-fueled boredom and a desire to get out of the apartment brought me here to satiate a growing curiosity. Well, I should have visited a lot sooner. While the aisles were filled with so many things I never knew existed (and don't quite know what do with) I was blown away by the meat and produce. Carrots the size of my arm, fruits I wouldn't be able to find anywhere else, beef sliced so thin I could almost see through it, and a selection of fresh seafood that bests any grocery store I've ever been to. My first visit here sparked an appetite for homemade bibimbap, and every ingredient necessary was found with ease, including a gigantic tub of gochujang. Finding normal sizes of things was probably the hardest part, but at this point I now have enough gochujang for 20 more dinners and enough fish sauce to last a year. Much like Mitsuwa in Edgewater, there is also a section for premade food, and noodle bowls / ramen you can get to stay or to go. While I won't be totally replacing TJs or Whole Foods, the fresh produce, meat, and seafood are more than enough to keep me coming back. I'll also be back for more fish sauce, when I need it sometime in 2023.
google avatar

Megan R.

Yelp
My first time visiting this market. I was very impressed with the selection of Asian foods and snacks from different parts of Asia. The supermarket is very well organized so nothing is too difficult to find. I love the variety of snacks they have to offer especially. However, there seems to be a fly problem especially near the boba shop. Hopefully it gets fixed. Oh, and the bathroom was cleaned well.
google avatar

Jackie S.

Yelp
This place is like a Mecca for all your Asian food needs INCLUDING a food court. Their produce is great and they have the best selection of fruits/vegetables/products you wont find in regular supermarkets. It's huge, it's clean, and the prices are normal. My only issues are: 1. They have an insane pork, seafood, and chicken selection, but very limited in the beef and lamb department. 2. I bought bread from the bakery section once and it got moldy pretty fast.
google avatar

Teresa L.

Yelp
So excited to have finally come to this supermarket without having to go to Edison or to pay the Holland Tunnel toll to Chinatown! The supermarket is large and clean. There are typical vegetable and seafood sections. The meat section has my favorite kind of spare ribs that I would only be able to find in Chinese supermarket. And then there are aisles full of Chinese dried goods and sauces. Loved the bakery and fast food sections as well. Decided to grab some dumplings to go. Didn't get to try the Coco bubble tea since there was a long time. But you know that just meant that it's good and I would have to try it next time. There is a sit-in area if you want to have a quick bite. Ample free parking in front. Restrooms are clean. It's close to Newport if you want to do some shopping or to catch a movie at the AMC theatre.
google avatar

Yelp
I can't give more than two stars to a business that is dishonest or unscrupulous about its pricing. Especially if something is marked on sale on the shelf, seemingly more often than not, the full undiscounted price gets charged at the register. It happens way too often for it to be due to an occasional error. I'm sure lots of people end up getting fooled and scammed, especially when they're buying lots of items (as people tend to at grocery stores). If you decide to correct them on a price, they get a customer service representative to walk over and take the item back to match it up to the sale label on the shelf, then walking back to give approval to the cashier for the sale price. Meanwhile holding up the entire checkout line to do so. It's such a pain, I've even seen them ring me up for the wrong price and just let it go because I know it will be an entire inefficient ordeal if I try to challenge it. If they just had better systems to actually update item pricing at the time they are discounting them, then all this could be avoided. I suspect it's deliberate, so they can skim additional money from the unwary, and induce people to purchase full-priced items when they see the sale label (even though it won't apply in the computer register at checkout). Seriously, when someone corrects the price of an item at checkout, do they actually fix it for the entire system, or only for the customer who went through the onerous process of proving the discount? Sketchy.

Yelp
I stopped at this grocery store to buy snacks for a party. Their sodas and chips were a little pricey. They did have an extensive selection of Asian products so would be a good place to look for brands that you can't find in a mainstream supermarket.

Yelp
99 Ranch is one of several Asian markets in this general area and it quickly became a favorite place of mine to shop last year. When lockdown began, I had to limit my outings so it has been several months since I visited 99 Ranch. 99 Ranch is an Asian market that focuses primarily on East Asian foods, but there are some other small sections with selections such as Indian foods. When you enter you are immediately hit with sensory overload. Right beyond the cashiers are giant boxes and crates of impulse items (think everything from cookies to popcorn to candy and more). To the left is a high end cosmetics shop and to the right is a line of restaurants and a bakery. The store itself is aisle after aisle of Asian foods. Whether it's sauces, noodles, snacks, frozen goods or desserts odds are you will find what you are looking for. I have rarely come here for an ingredient for my Asian dishes and not found it! The restaurants off to the side include a bubble tea stand, two street food style stands and a bakery. Beyond that is a Chinese food station with a steam table buffet and traditional roasted meats. That said, during the lockdown period the meats are no longer hanging behind a window and the buffet no longer has food in the trays. Instead you have to order what you want at the cashier and they will bring it out to you (if they have it at all). All the way on the other side of the market is a fantastic produce section. I have found all my fave veggies including pea shoots, water spinach and mustard greens. Pre-pandemic the vegetables would be loose for you to bag and purchase in amounts of your choosing. Now however all the vegetables are pre-bagged in predetermined amounts (ex: one pound). Given the situation we all are living in 2020, I think this is for the best. The vegetables are still great and fresh. 99 Ranch is a fantastic place to visit for your Asian food needs. Check it out!

Yelp
The boba is good but problem is they take too slow the workers and argue or something sweet is very expensive like 16-18

Yelp
I needed ingredients to make a vegetarian dish we always have during the New Year and 99 Ranch was the closest Asian supermarket. 99 Ranch had everything that I needed and more - their New Year section was pretty well stocked and helped me decorate my apartment for the holiday. Their drinks section is VERY expansive - I found a lot of Hawaiian Sun favors that I've never seen before, and I've visited Hawaii 4 times! We brought some buns from their bakery section and they were all pretty good. I liked that it was buy two get one free! They also have a roast pork, duck, BBQ pig section, but we already had dinner plans that day so I didn't get any. I'm actually looking forward to going back and giving it a try when I'm craving it.

Yelp
** Shop for your groceries before you eat at the indoor food court ** They have a incentive shopping reward program here Every $20 you spend on groceries earns you $1 food court bucks (on weekdays this doubles; $20 = $2 food court bucks) They have a Coco bubble tea inside as well (does not accept food court bucks) The Chinese buffet style hotbar does not calculate your food by weight. It is a flat rate of $9 no matter how much food you stuff in there so as long as the lunch box can close. There is also dimsum, ramen, and an Asian bakery in the food court area Abundance of free lot parking This big Asian market is clean, and in a brightly lit space. There is often plenty of sampling tables set up throughout the store.

Yelp
Amazing Asian grocery store! They have such an extensive selection of all things Asian and more! Forget Disney, this is the happiest place on earth! Lol ! You can find anything you want / need and anything that you didn't know you need in your life until you come here!
google avatar

Yelp
Great asian grocery option in the neighborhood. I shopped here before COVID and definitely have been here more often since COVID. They do limit the amount of people inside the store at a time nowadays. Therefore, depends on when you go, you may have to wait outside for a few minutes. Lines usually move fairly quickly though. Being a chinese store, there are more chinese products. But there's still a healthy amount of Korean, Filipino, and even hispanic ingredients/sauces/stuff. There is free parking in the lot so if you're driving there should be plenty of parking.
google avatar

Sonia P.

Yelp
What an incredible variety of Asian groceries - from exotic vegetables and fruits to tea, rice, noodles of every variety, sauces, tofu, meat and fish, frozen dumplings, dried mushrooms to even serving dishes and cookware! Truly an Asian food lovers paradise! Prices are reasonable and they used to have a food court as well which isn't functional any more due to Covid but hopefully will be back soon.

Yelp
Great addition to the downtown Jersey city area. It took over the old Pathmark. And in some ways it's alot better. This place has a variety of items. Asian based store so you can get a pot of things that are from Asian countries. Even Asian potato chips. The produce section has a wonderful array of vegetables and fruits. Essential teas and Asian desserts. Sauces and noodles to make a wonderful Asian cuisine. The star of this supermarket for me is the seafood department. Unbelievable selection of fish. Fresh and at good prices. I get my salmon here all the time. It's always so delicious. The butcher is also one of my favorites as well. I love the pork chops and pork belly here. Cut even and always fresh. They also have a hot food department where food is ready to eat. And that is a great spot to have some lunch. Or bring some home for later for to heat up for dinner. ***Note. Some of the everyday items like milk, juice, bacon , cereal etc. Can be a bit pricey here so buyer beware of those prices. U can get it much cheaper in shop rite.

Yelp
I go there every other week for asian groceries and normally eat in the Tianjin place for pancakes. I really love the options and how they give bakery vouchers after spending a certain amount of money. 一般都去那边买鱼和小吃饮料啥的。煎饼真的好吃又划算,酸菜白肉煲赞爆。

Yelp
I got 99 problems, and 98 of them are parking in this insane parking lot. Definitely one of the most challenging and nightmarish parking lots in all of New Jersey. Yes I know that drivers can be shady here and it's every driver for themselves. But the way they zip into the little tiny spots and steal them from each other, and the complete lack of spots throughout the day, is maddening. And then don't get me started on the long long walk from your car to the store and back. Some people will literally not give a crap if they nearly mow you down. Other than the parking lot, the store itself is pretty awesome. They have a little bit of everything and I really appreciate it. They have a really cool food court to with four or five different restaurants, and a nice Bakery and a Coco franchise. Unfortunately unlike most Cocos, that particular location is not my favourite because they use pre-made milk teas, but hopefully that will change in the future.
google avatar

Wei S.

Yelp
I was very excited that there was a Chinese supermarket in Jersey City. This place definitely offered a variety of Chinese product but with a higher price than the supermarkets in Chinatown or Flushing. The bakery and hot food bar offered a good selection of items. They were definitely cheap. For $7, we got three roasted meat items (roasted pork, BBQ pork and pork tongue) with rice and vegetables. Both of us felt full after. The roasted pork was definitely a must, which had super crispy skin and tender meat. I just wish the pork was warm.

Yelp
4 stars b'cuz.... 1. It reminds me of home (LA) 2. Clean 3. Carries everything my Chinese heart desires 4. They clean and fry a really good fish 5. Cheap I don't really eat a lot of Chinese food anymore. Do I really trust the jar labeled ORGANIC without the actual USDA approved logo? Not really. But once in awhile I want the childhood comforts of a preserved duck egg porridge with chili bamboo shoots or my salt and pepper shrimp (with heads on of course) so I venture here

Yelp
Discovering this 99 Ranch Market in my neighborhood has seriously bumped up my quality of life! Unlike many other Chinese grocery stores that I've experienced in the past, 99 Ranch is very clean, has a huge selection of Chinese, Korean, and other products, and most importantly, has beautifully fresh produce! (This last one is huge for me because in my previous experiences with Chinese grocery stores in Boston's Chinatown, I always felt like I was sacrificing on quality, especially with produce.) Here are some other great things about this 99 Ranch Market: + Big parking lot! + They always have a large selection of their products on sale! + They sell fresh fish that they can prepare for you. See attached photo for all the different fresh seafood services they provide! (Options include clean only, clean & tail off, clean & head off, steak, and different frying or steaming options.) + They have a food court with a ramen shop, bakery, a dimsum shop, CoCo bubble tea, and other "cafeteria style" Chinese food options. + Not very busy/crowded! (This may change with time since they're still fairly new but compared with other grocery stores in the area with monstrous lines, this is fantastic!) + Did I mention the fresh, affordable produce yet?? (In general, I feel like the prices at 99 Ranch are very reasonable and competitive.) Tip: If you're planning on eating in the food court, buy your groceries first and you'll get a couple vouchers to spend in the food court/bakery--$1 for every $20 you spend. The food court vouchers usually expire within the week, so unless you grocery shop frequently, definitely try to use it in the same visit! Extra Pro Tip: I just learned this today by accidentally spending $80 in groceries. The cashier gave me eight $1 vouchers and I asked if they changed their policy so that it's now $1 for every $10 spent. She explained that on the weekends, if you hit $80 or more, they double your vouchers! (On the weekdays, the threshold is $60.) Sweet!

Yelp
Great market, have lots of things that can be difficult to find in the area. I am from NYC so these products were fairly close and easy to find. I am glad this place is around.

Yelp
Nice, bright asian grocery store. They have a bakery, Chinese BBQ, and milk tea stores in the same building too. Their fish section offers complimentary cutting and frying when requested though they take longer to prep your fish then fish stores in Chinatown.

Yelp
Just discovered this supermarket. It was fabulous! It has all the Asian foods available for me to choose from, as well as seafood that I love! Also. Try their food court. Amazing.

Yelp
This is such a great addition to the downtown jersey city neighborhood. We kept hearing about an Asian supermarket coming to this spot for quite sometime so I'm glad to see it finally. Came here on the opening day 4/21 and the place was bustling with people already. Store is huge and carries all the usual grocery fare along with the Asian stuff as well (yay). They did a great job with the layout of this place, it feels like they have literally taken a store from Chinatown or flushing and transported it over to downtown JC. Along with grocery needs it's also a great place for satisfy all those food cravings with a food court , ramen place and coco smoothie all onsite at this place. Coming to produce quality and prices , everything looked great and prices were great as well. Finally no more trips to ShopRite :)

Yelp
Picked up this platter for less than $8, the meat weren't so fresh but edible. They do have a coco inside to satisfy that bubble tea fix! The super market offer many things other small Asian supermarket doesn't offer which include large option of fresh fish and other seafood. They had a good amount of stands for food/drink samples! They carry this soy milk that has different flavors including coffee and green tea. Ugh super good and SO recommended!

Yelp
A serious Chinese grocery in Jersey City. While still missing a little of lamb (only one sliced leg throughout), all the basics and many of the better items are available here for fresh produce, fruit, meat, fish cleaned to your specifications and frozen and canned aisles. They have a hot deli section, dimsum, ramen, coco bubble tea, and a small bakery. Small appliances and more available, and today was the opening. Free bag and crackers for a receipt showing $20 of purchases today for the first 200 people. Normally, every $20 will get you a coupon for $1 to the hot bar or deli. Overall a good start and a parking lot. Can't wait to see if they can keep up the good pricing and fresh produce. I'll follow up with an update after a month or so.
