"Inspired by the nature and culture of northwestern Vietnam, this restaurant serves authentic Mông, Tày, Muong and Tai cuisine. The name A Bản uses the Mông tradition of placing the initial of a man's name first; the word "bản" means "ethnic village ". The lush garden and colourful dining room reflect the region's rich heritage. Rare ingredients such as snake, horse, buffalo and carp make for an exotic dining experience. The young sticky rice wine, cơm rượu, is divine." - Michelin Inspector

Very nice looking restaurant, but unfortunately we were dissapointed with food. Apetizer with buffalo skin - not good taste, should be crispy, but wasn’t. Protein bomb - very good. Duck - very ordinary. Chicken - the texture quite tough and difficult to chew. We have ordered rice and water - didn’t recieve it, staff was friendly, but not speaking english very good. Paid 1,5 mil. for two people. Maybe good for local people, but as a tourists we were not happy with this choice.

Ethnic mountain style cuisine, but don't be misled - this restaurant is no gimmick, the food and service are really excellent. Order dishes and share as a group. Perfectly cooked and exceptionally fresh local vegetables, deep fried fish as a starter (like whitebait), delicious grilled chicken with mountain herbs, and a wide selection of meat and fish. Great for overseas visitors as an introduction to a different and delicious Vietnamese cuisine.

Truly authentic northern / countryside traditional Vietnamese cuisine. Extremely well put together Menu with dishes you can’t find anywhere else in Hà Nội and definitely not once you leave the City…unless you’re going out into the countryside. A Menu standout is the traditional Buffalo Salad. Highly recommended.

The ambiance is FANTASTIC, and the service was great. But I go to restaurants to enjoy a meal and out of five dishes we tried I sort of enjoyed the rice, which was rice with nothing on it. All the dishes look great, but the flavors are very very difficult, we received little guidance when we ordered, but I’m not sure we could have made it work. Overall very expensive for Vietnam and disappointing for a foreigner. We unfortunately left hungry. The drinks were nice, but I would not trust the Michelin recommendation to indicate that you can freely order.

The restaurant esthetic was quite unique. The food on the other hand, not as exciting. We got two different buffalo dishes. One was steak strips and the other was smoked. The strips were good but could have been better. There was no flavoring to them whatsoever. The smoked buffalo was nothing to be proud of. There was no smoke taste or smell to it at all. After two dishes and the sticky rice were still hungry so I wouldn’t recommend either if you’re leaving full or at least satisfied with your meal. I have been to so many other restaurants in VN that could easily rate a Michelin star over this place. We were highly disappointed. The staff checked on us once. They also brought out our dishes at separate times so we would have been eating dinner at the same table 15 minutes apart from each other. That seems to be the norm out here so I can’t truly discount them for that but I expected this place be well above average in all categories and they simply were not at all.
