A Bản Mountain Dew

"The lush garden complete with water features and a dining room decked out in colourful fabric are inspired by the nature and culture of northwestern Vietnam, Chef Phạm Việt’s birthplace. In the same vein, authentic Mông, Tày, Muong and Tai cuisine from the region dominates the menu resulting in a fascinating ethnic mix hard to find elsewhere. Rare ingredients such as snake, horse, buffalo and carp add to the exotic and eclectic experience." - Michelin Inspector

Ethnic mountain style cuisine, but don't be misled - this restaurant is no gimmick, the food and service are really excellent. Order dishes and share as a group. Perfectly cooked and exceptionally fresh local vegetables, deep fried fish as a starter (like whitebait), delicious grilled chicken with mountain herbs, and a wide selection of meat and fish. Great for overseas visitors as an introduction to a different and delicious Vietnamese cuisine.

The ambiance is FANTASTIC, and the service was great. But I go to restaurants to enjoy a meal and out of five dishes we tried I sort of enjoyed the rice, which was rice with nothing on it. All the dishes look great, but the flavors are very very difficult, we received little guidance when we ordered, but I’m not sure we could have made it work. Overall very expensive for Vietnam and disappointing for a foreigner. We unfortunately left hungry. The drinks were nice, but I would not trust the Michelin recommendation to indicate that you can freely order.

The restaurant esthetic was quite unique. The food on the other hand, not as exciting. We got two different buffalo dishes. One was steak strips and the other was smoked. The strips were good but could have been better. There was no flavoring to them whatsoever. The smoked buffalo was nothing to be proud of. There was no smoke taste or smell to it at all. After two dishes and the sticky rice were still hungry so I wouldn’t recommend either if you’re leaving full or at least satisfied with your meal. I have been to so many other restaurants in VN that could easily rate a Michelin star over this place. We were highly disappointed. The staff checked on us once. They also brought out our dishes at separate times so we would have been eating dinner at the same table 15 minutes apart from each other. That seems to be the norm out here so I can’t truly discount them for that but I expected this place be well above average in all categories and they simply were not at all.

Unique dining experience with flavour profiles and ingredients I did not expect. Really unique experience. We tried the smoked buffalo platter, carp and bamboo shoot soup, dry aged duck dish steamed veg and colourful sticky rice. The dishes were all outstanding. No English on the menu when we went so had to use google translate. Staff were helpful in making recommendations.

Wide variety of Northwestern dishes. High price but the restaurant’s decor and service are great. Food is good too, although I’m not sure about authenticity as I have never tried these dishes in its original region.

Good food and nice atmosphere. It felt a little touristy. The sticky rice wine was very strong. Total for two people was about 700k VND about $37 USD, not too bad.

Food was good. The soup was really savory. Should have ordered beer with the dried buffalo. Unfortunately i was charged twice in the credit card.
