22 Incredible Restaurants to Try in South LA

"Florence-Firestone is slightly north of Watts and the home to the barely-year-old A Huevo Cafe. This is a purely daytime spot where Cinnamon Toast Crunch milkshakes and Mexican hot chocolate are precursors to A Huevo Cafe’s outstanding chilaquiles, wet breakfast burritos, huevos divorciados, or asada quesadilla — all served in a bright and whimsical room." - Mona Holmes

We went on a Tuesday at 11am, We got seated right away, it wasn’t packed there was only 2 waiters/ waitresses. It took like 7 minutes for someone to take our order. We got Ice Coffee Flight, The drinks were 1. Cinnamon Chessecake Latte 9/10 2. Frutty Pebbles Latte 2/10 3. Lavender Matcha Latte 8.5/10 4. Don’t remember the name of the last one. We got a Breakfast Molcajete 10/10 Wow this was so delicious it the perfect size for 2 people. The only reason I give it 4 stars. Is base off all the reviews from everyone else and their experience. Honestly I would only come here on a weekday when it’s not busy, because the parking here is really bad. You’ll struggle for parking if this place is packed on the weekend. To be honest idk how the service is on the weekend. My recommendation is to come on a weekday.

I’m pretty disappointed because I really wanted to like this place. My first experience here, I called in for a takeout order. I was put on hold, which is fine, but while being on hold, I could hear the employees talking about how people don’t wanna come in no more and complaining about a phone order. I ordered a breakfast burrito with Machaca and paid $25. It was a 30 minute wait, which is fine. I love breakfast burritos, but this is the worst breakfast burrito I’ve ever had. I know the Machaca is a special request but they do serve it on the menu. However, this Machaca, I’ve never had Machaca like this before. Looked nothing like Machaca and tasted nothing like Machaca. Tiny little bits of meat cut into squares? You can see this in the pictures. Like what is that? Not Machaca for sure. Those little pieces of meat tasted really dry and bland. I just don’t even understand this. The breakfast burrito is originally $17, which means I had to pay at least an additional $5-6 for whatever that was. Ridiculous. There is also overall discrepancies in their advertising. Online pictures, show the burrito with beans, this burrito had no beans. I also asked the employee while I was making the order,” the burrito comes with beans right ?” and they agreed. Overall It had no flavor, tasted like burnt egg, no salt, and greasy potatoes. The burrito was dripping grease. They also forgot to provide a salsa. Who can eat a burrito without salsa? Good thing I had a Cholula packet on me. I’m currently pregnant, was super hungry and I was not about to let $25 go to waste . I had found all this out after the fact, drove away and was halfway across town. Extremely disappointed as I had wanted to try this place out for a while now. It’s sad to get a breakfast burrito so wrong. Maybe they favor people who dine in, but this is such off putting experience I kinda don’t wanna try my luck and money on the rest.

Outstanding customer service! The food, hands down, one of the best choices that anyone could make. The atmosphere is bright and family friendly - the art is so beautiful and unique! This is one of the best food places in LA by far! Prices are fair and you are getting more than what you pay for! I hope this place never changes! Please do not stop by (more for us) 🫶🏾

Google
It's too over hyped in my opinion. Went with my girl, she got the Burger with the Egg which is pretty basic brunch burger and I got the birria burrito and let me tell y'all it was bland, little to no flavor and mad lacking seasonin on both orders. The only thing that was well seasoned were the fries, will I go there again? No. Did I waste $60 on 2 basic orders? Yes.. You pretty much paying for the aesthetics.. Also that weird music is super loud you can't even hear yourself think. (Over priced) (Flavorless) (unseasoned)

Google
It was good, our coffee and bread were decorated with details and the sandwich was too big, enough for 1 person and the chicken was really crunchy and juicy,. I will come back ... Recommended.

Google
Great place! 1st time there and I'm glad we found this place. Food was delicious. Cafe de olla was great. Everything was great.

Lindsey

Google
The food was delicious! They had a lot of mocktail and refresher options! Restaurant was clean and staff was friendly. We will be coming back!

Yelp
I never make the time to leave reviews, but when it's GOOD food you make the time! I ordered chilaquiles with the habanero sauce, and added chicken tinga for the protein. Hands down, delicious!

Yelp
I came here on a Sunday morning with my family. We got seated pretty quickly like less than 5 minutes. Ana was our server, she was super friendly and attentive to anything we needed. The food was good. I loved their lattes, we had the horchata and dulce de leche. I actually really liked their cafe de olla and I'm not the kind to drink black coffee either but I loved the cinnamon in it. Def recommend for brunch. They have a lot of cute signs for photos. They were playing reggaeton and latin pop so I was def having a good time singing to Bad Bunny, Karol G and Maluma. I will def be coming back to try everything else.

Yelp
This is the place to eat in south Los Angeles. My cousin and I came to have breakfast and it exceeded our expectations. Firstly, the outside is inviting and vibrant so I was immediately excited for this restaurant eggsperience We were quickly greeted and seated. Our server Miss Ashley B. was friendly, sweet and had a pleasant disposition. We both order medium rare steaks and eggs. The food was perfectly seasoned although A-1 sauce was offered and we accepted it was not needed. I could appreciate the steak more without the sauce so before you drown your steak taste it first then you'll know what I mean. The steak was so tender with a little marbel which we thought made it tastier and the eggs were sunny side up and that's how it looked on the plate; like two suns. The homemade potatoes were cooked & crispy on the outside. The meal came with toasted sourdough bread. Needless to say but I will say it, the food was delicious!! The steak and eggs were $24 but definitely worth it. The coffee oh you gotta get the signature mocha coffee you will not be disappointed trust me. Btw I'm from LA but I live in Philly so food is a culture there so be sure to come for a delicious breakfast that's hot and tasty with a chill ambiance.

Yelp
My sister and I decided to have brunch! I had some chilaquiles with mole and my sister had a steak with fries! Our food was very tasty and delicious out server was Ms. Ana she had such a beautiful Costumer service and was so nice, kind and very welcoming! If only more people were to be the was she welcomed us that day! We had a pleasant day with her beautiful service! GIVE THAT WOMAN A RISE

Yelp
I was expecting really good food here I gave them a try so I order the pancakes with fruits they tasted very stiff and dry. What save the pancakes was the fruit , and the honey cup was too small for 3 giants pancakes. This place is just a hype.
google avatar

Veronica S.

Yelp
Decided to try this new place close to my house, and the food didn't disappoint, our waiter Anna was really nice, and the service was fast. The coffees are unexpected with a milk foam egg on top that was the cutest thing ever. Definitely glad someone opened up such a spot in this area

Yelp
My husband and I live in the area and we passed by the cafe a few times. This morning we were thinking about where to go for breakfast and we decided to come in with family. This place is really adorable on the inside and the service was great. Cathy was really sweet as our waitress and there were a few servers that came to our table to check on us throughout the meal. We ordered a variety of drinks and dishes and they were all delicious. The cafe de olla late was amazing and I'm not really into coffee. The huevos rancheros, avocado toast, huevos divorciados, and mini pancakes were all great and the portions were generous. We will definitely be coming back to try more dishes and the drinks on the menu all looked really fun..I highly recommend coming in. Parking is a little scarce but we were able to park in the lot. Come try it out!

Yelp
I wanted to enjoy this place, but the food quality was weak and the drinks lacked flavor. My boyfriend ordered steak and eggs ($24). Over the phone, I asked for medium and they ended up cooking the meat medium well (written on the to-go container). The side of bread was rock hard. Additionally, his order came with no sauce/condiments. I had the carne asada chilaquiles (red salsa) and they were okay. Definitely a dish you want to eat at the restaurant. For drinks, we ordered the Horchata Latte and Fruity Pebbles Latte. I recommend the Horchata Latte although both drinks tasted watered down. We had the drinks fresh. The service could have been better. As feedback, it would have been nice if the person who took the phone call repeated the order to ensure it was noted correctly. Additionally, salsa/condiments for the dish we paid the most for would have been a plus.

Yelp
This place is so amazing. Food is so delicious! Amazing service and always give great food recommendations. Highly recommended. Too good to take a pic of the food. Sorry not sorry

Yelp
HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I loved this place. Whether you are visiting from out of town or a local, you MUST come to this place and enjoy their wonderful food and drinks! Ashely took great care of me and made great menu suggestions that really satisfied my mood! I loved it here. The art is amazing as well! Beautiful colorful art and atmosphere. Definitely coming back

Yelp
I live 10 min away from here, I'm used to having to drive further for a cute cafe so I was so happy to have found this restaurant, the servants speak English and Spanish as most of us Latinos living here, it helps us feel right at home when we walk in. The restaurant itself has such cute funky decor, very lively , the food was very delicious as well. I ordered the chorizo burrito and the coconut refresher. The drink was a little too sweet for me, although I didn't want to return it because I hate being rude to the servers, I politely let them know I didn't like the drink and they gifted me another one that was a better fit for what I was expecting. It was perfect . I will definitely be returning for the French toast and pancakes I didn't get to try ! (Not because they didn't have it but I was craving the burrito more for today)

Yelp
Back again, this time the wait wasnt as long but was a still a little annoyed with the music being super loud. We ordered the Birria Ramen, Burger and Consome with 2 tacos. Birria ramen was pretty good, a good amount of ramen and beef, the burger was ok, the cheese they used seemed like the spicy nacho cheese my kid couldn't eat it because it wasn't your regular american cheese this was a little spicy not recommended for a small kid. Everything else was good, highly recommend the Birria Ramen with an ice cold Mexican Coke.
google avatar

Janeth S.

Yelp
It was better then expected I had green chilaquiles/asada. Asada had good flavor and the green sauce was good I hope this place adds abit more to menu but overall it was good do recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Felt this place was very "for the aesthetic" instagram worthy coffee pics. Service took a while, at least 35-40 min. The parking is minimal, so we had to park across the street in a different lot. Food is good but nothing out of this world. Its just pretty. I wanted to try it since I live like 10 min away but its not somewhere id go to again. I also asked for the eggs overhard and had runny yolk. Didnt feel like waiting any longer than I already had so i ate around it. $56 for this felt like way too much.
google avatar

Mskitty K.

Yelp
Food was good cold fruit drinks were very sweet Our server was great Ambiance was amazing
google avatar

Josr M.

Yelp
I order some bombas French toast and some Guacaegg for pick up but they forgot my side toast
google avatar

Pether M.

Yelp
I don't like to complain about restaurants, but the food from this place was super bad. The service from the waitress is good Ana was our waitress and she was really nice but when I got my food it was cold which sounds normal after a 45 minute wait. I sent the food back for them to heat it up a little bit waited for about 12 more minutes and when they brought it back it was still cold so the kitchen people need to get better at this and I hope they do, because this place has a lot of clientele it would be a shame if they don't do better but personally I'm not giving this place another try.
google avatar

Maria G.

Yelp
Walking into the restaurant it was pretty the decor was very earthy with flowers all over the room & great for taking aesthetic picture , they were playing very mellow cafe music We ordered a cafe de olla & an iced cafe de olla latte both tasted great For food I was able to capture a picture of my chilaquiles with salsa verde & birria . The chilaquiles sauce was great & paired well with the birria however I was not able to get a picture of the mole omelette , we thought that the chicken inside the omelette would be covered in mole sauce however it was only put on top of the omelette & the chicken inside was plain with some sort of red seasoning , the house potatoes that came as the side were cold & tasted like they had just been reheated. Overall our waitress was extremely nice & attentive to our needs , if we were to go back I would possibly try their birria ramen

Yesi D.

Yelp
Service wasn't that great. They took forever to bring out our food and didn't even come to see how we were doing
google avatar

Lynn D.

Yelp
The food is amazing and the waitresses are friendly. Literally wanted to try everything on the menu! Their mocha orea is amazing and their sunny side burrito was incredible, their steak is water mouthing & their French toast is to drool for! Need more places like this in our community! Will definitely be back, A huevo que si!!

Yelp
Very very good! The food, the coffee, the inside! I decided I wanted a solo brunch. I google searched brunch and A Huevo Cafe popped up. In my head I wanted a place to sit, eat, have a nice coffee, read a little, write a little. This is the perfect place. It's a Mexican Brunch place. I got the Chilaquiles with chicken tinga, and an horchata iced coffee. The original coffee I wanted didn't come iced (bummer but no biggie) The iced coffee came and it was sooo good. Aesthetically it arrived really pretty. The horchata is thick with a really sweet cinnamon flavor. The coffee is strong and adds a Smokeyness to it. So so good!!! The chilaquiles!!! So so good. I got red sauce. The chips stayed crispy. The sauce had a nice kick to it. You can really taste the flavor. The tinga alone could use more chipotle to me, but mixed all together, it was so good. And the eggs were perfectly cooked! Definitely coming again and definitely recommend coming here. It's really dope!

Jose L.

Yelp
The food wasn't that great. Some plate lack in flavor, where others had an overpower flavor ex. Garlic. The only good/nice thing about it is the food presentation it was really aesthetically pleasing. The staff was really attentive and kind. I wouldn't recommend coming For overpriced food that only looks good in photos.

Glenda P.

Yelp
Ashley gave us great service and food recommendations! Great customer service! Thank you Ashley
google avatar

Jocelyn G.

Yelp
Ana V was great at attending to us while we were there! The staff is very nice as well! Our experience was overall great! The environment is nice & the food is very delicious! Everything is worth the price of what we ordered. I was not expecting the food to be a huge portion! & let me say it was amazing! Deff. will be back! Thank you!
google avatar

Marisela M.

Yelp
Really tasty food Siento que la mesera pudo ver sido un poco más amable! La comida muy deliciosa
google avatar

Jasmine R.

Yelp
You must try the cafe de la olla. Don't underestimate it! It's simple yet rich and delicious. The chilaquiles verdes did not disappoint and the eggs were nice and runny. They had so many photo opportunities for you to take while you waited for your food. Music was just a tad too loud and made it difficult to hear our server who happened to have a soft voice but over they were attentive.
google avatar

Bianca C.

Yelp
Visited this spot on a Saturday morning, it was super busy! We waited about 8 mins which was not bad at all. As soon as we sat down, we were greeted and handed menus by our waitress. The ambiance of this restaurant was amazing, it's definitely a family oriented restaurant. Their art on their walls were beautiful and creative. We ordered two cafe de la olla iced with no whipped cream, some chilaquiles, red and green. The food was amazing. Next time I will order green chilaquiles only, the red ones were a little spicy and had a strong flavor of tomatoes. I watched as other guest food came out, and everything looks delicious! They get very creative with their beverages which is cool. Definitely will be back to try more things on the menu! Definitely an affordable place as well. They have gender neutral restrooms on both sides of the dining area. I will also mention their parking lot is pretty small and full, we parked in a nearby neighborhood and walked, it worked out perfectly!
google avatar

George S.

Yelp
I loved the food it was so bomb and it was really good This rating is coming from my 9 year old daughter that is very picky. Definitely a good vibe and outstanding service, food WAS bomb thou!
google avatar

Mary R.

Yelp
I ordered Los Chilaquiles green with chorizo. When the food arrived to my table the only thing that was warm was the chorizo not good at all. I also ordered a cafe de olla that was good. My husband got the steak and eggs that also arrived cold. Overall the food was okay nothing to wait 50 minutes for. If my food had arrived hot I could see myself going back. We paid $66.81 for 2 people. The place is roomy and they have nice decor.
google avatar

Emanuel V.

Yelp
This places is a hidden gem! When I found it here on yelp I wasn't really sure about coming because it only had 3 stars on the reviews so I thought food may not be good. But the place really surprised me on a very positive way. I love trying new places and I usually look for them on "nice" areas and all I can say it's that a huevo cafe it's way better than many of those places I've been in. Food it's delicious, service it's good, drinks are really good, and the place it's cool and creative. I will definitely come back.
google avatar

Perla S.

Yelp
Food was very good. Big plates Service was awesome , employees are very welcoming Cute decorations around the whole restaurant love the idea of the lights out of a egg Try this spot you won't be disappointed
google avatar

Joselyn R.

Yelp
The service was great. The server was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. The presentation of the food was good (pancakes were already cut into by me; so photo isn't posted), but it did not taste good. Like others have said, the pancakes were dry and hard. The place was cute, and very picturesque. We came due to tiktok posts, but it definitely feels like they were paid posts. I'm sorry, but it simply isn't good. I couldn't even force myself to eat the food (and trust me, I tried). My mom and I ended up taking the food to go, and then tossing it then, so the chef wouldn't feel bad. I would consider going back again in a few years, maybe their recipe will have advanced by then.
google avatar

Julien B.

Yelp
Try. This. Place. The mole omelette was everything. With the chicken tinga inside, the pickled red onions as a topping, the home style potatoes, the sourdough toast and "a mole runs through it". No, not the blind critter, the sauce, that sweet, black sauce that baffles with its provenance. What is mole sauce? I could quickly google it, but I prefer to leave it a mystery for my taste buds to pick apart. Mind you, this is the only dish that I've had, but I will be back for more. The avocado toast caught my eye, the huevos rancheros, the burritos and birria ramen? This place is doing it right. The service was friendly and fast, the restaurant is bright and beautiful, I really recommend it.
google avatar

Lays C.

Yelp
Food was soo good. , i love chilaquiles and these made the list! the ambiance is cute it's big and have music playing. the portions are huggeee ! i recommend. It's a hidden gem here in south central

Ivan P.

Yelp
Food was 1 out of 5. Ordered chilaquiles with chorizo. The chips were regular tostada chips, and the salsa tasted as if it was poured straight from a can. Eggs had no salt or flavor. Salsa was room temp. The chorizo was burnt and slightly under cooked. Giving it a 2-star review because of the service and great cafe de olla. Threw this away. Dont bother.
google avatar

Dave O.

Yelp
South LA's hidden gem - this place has tasty and creative breakfast fare. Service is good too - they were super busy when we were there and food came out quickly.
google avatar

Ana G.

Yelp
super cute brunch spot but you're def paying for the name and place here. food was average, your typical americanized mexican breakfast, service was ok, waitress came to check on us once, and it wasn't busy, she placed the bill at our table and was waiting for us to take out our money,i work at a restaurant, this is not how we check out our guests. giving 2 stars for the decor

Angie R.

Yelp
For being the first time here at A Huevo Cafe has been the best experience I have had, the food was great!! My husband enjoyed his coffee yum was soo good. I order a matcha strawberry bomb. We will be back for sure. This order we place with the server Anita was the best she offer was great!!! Anita Muchas Grasias por su consejo estubo al 100%.
google avatar

Nana M.

Yelp
This restaurant has delicious food and the inside decoration is nice and cute. I got the chilaquilles plate and oreo mocha.
google avatar

Andrea C.

Yelp
The service was amazing ! From a simple greet ending the day with laughter. I got a sunrise burrito !!! It had a lot of flavors and the amount of food was excellent not too much not too little it was worth it . SHOUT OUT TO MY AMAZING SERVER ANNA YOU WERE AN ANGEL GOD BLESS YOU . I drove an 1 hour and 10 mins from San Bernardino and let me tell you this restaurant didn't disappoint. My best friend got enchiladas with BIRRIA !!!!!! Mouth watering !
google avatar

Adriana O.

Yelp
google avatar

Jorge F.

Yelp
Restaurant has been opened for two months on a former Salvadorian restaurant. The food and brunch / breakfast concept is great. I don't believe there is something like this is in the area. The food is flavorful and fresh. Music was on point! (Hehe, think there's needs to be a drag show or some sort of love show). The service was also very kind and attentive.
google avatar

Elisabeth B.

Yelp
The food was amazing! A lot of reviews saying their food isn't good but all of our plates were very flavorful. I will definitely go back for the strawberry pancakes! The portions are huge which I love for the price. Our server was very nice and attentive , great service overall. The ambiance was a bit loud but from everyone enjoying themselves so all good vibes.
google avatar

Joe P.

Yelp
Have been wanting to check this place out for a while. Let me tell you guys, it didn't disappoint! Our server was awesome! She was going above and beyond throughout our entire stay. I really wished I could remember her name. I ordered the breakfast burrito! Talk about a hearty meal! You eat one of those bad boys, and you're pretty much set for the rest of the day! It was delicious! Wet burrito style, chorizo, eggs, potatoes, cheese and cream! What more could you ask for?! Restaurant is very spacious, and can accommodate small and large parties. We were a party of 6 and were sat within minutes, no problemo! The coffee americano is pressed and brewed to order! But heads up, you only get one free refill on coffee orders! If you're ever in the LA Hood area, and are looking for an amazing breakfast, check this spot out. Will I be back? A Huevo!
google avatar

Jasmin H.

Yelp
I'm going to give my 100% honestly I'm giving it a two star because the place was nice and the costumer service was ok, but I look at reviews to see if I should go eat there or not and this time I did not but let me say the food looks good but as they say look are deceiving because the taste wasn't so great let me start off with fruity pebbles pancake they looked amazing but the batter was off it didn't taste to cooked and I couldn't taste the cereal I also got the mole chilaquiles the super over flowed my chilaquiles with sauce and the tortillas where super chewy and hard I also got a hot horchata coffee and the taste of it was just watery didn't have flavor but it taste like water my partner got a ice one and that was the only thing that we got that was actually really tasty. I only go back to try their drinks but the food was disappointing
google avatar

Alexis M.

Yelp
El servicio perfecto bien lindos todos los que trabajan. Y la comida déjame decirte que 10/10. Los waffles con fruta espectacular!!! Y los lattes bien ricos!

Skitts P.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying that the coffee is from italy and to die for! Even the straight coffee with no cream or sugar was delicious!! My aunt had the chilaquiles and the salsa is fresh and super tasty. I had the veggie omelette. Our server was super nice! The place inside is clean. Be warned that parking is tiny. So come early. We will definitely come back! We highly reccomend this place!
google avatar

Liliana V.

Yelp
The food was pretty good I ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken was delicious and the waffles were hot and fluffy. My boyfriend got the birria ramen and man it was a huge portion for him personally. The drinks were also really good. The menu had a lot of variety and isn't too long which is great. As for the service I went on a Saturday morning at 8:20 ish so 20 minutes into them being open and there was a good amount of people there already. The ambiance was great. The restrooms were super clean and the whole place looked and smelled clean. The only reason why I deduced one was for two reasons. 1. The parking lot is really small which I get isn't their fault but can be an inconvenience and 2 the waitress didn't check up on us at all once we received our food. Other than that it would of been a 5 star.

Yanet A.

Yelp
Really good! the service was really friendly and with great energy! the ambiance was so chill and relaxing! good vibes

Randy C.

Yelp
Food is super good, no complains. Customer service could be better. Waiting times wasn't bad, we waited 15 min to be seated and 15 min to food after ordering. The place inside is really nicely decorated but located in a horrible neighborhood. Drug addicts and bums sit outside the entrance . $63.50 for 2 plates, 2 coffee drinks and tip.
