"On the tree-lined, pedestrian-only Española Way in South Beach, À la Folie offers a delightful escape to Paris with its cozy bistro feel and inviting backyard wine bar, Bar Derrière (a little speakeasy of sorts that specializes in natural, biodynamic, organic, and sustainable wines). Grab a glass of something chilled while savoring French classics like rich French onion soup and a crispy croque monsieur. The intimate setting is ideal for people-watching, and warm, attentive service adds to the European experience." - Allison Ramirez, Alona Martinez

Update 12/24/24: Apparently, this place is so popular that people wait outside before it opens. I came here after work to pick up an order. I also bought some breakfast items. In total, I got spiced apple cruffin, monkey bread, almond croissant plain, chocolate gateau basque slice, bahia cake, and macarons. -spiced apple cruffin 5 - very enjoyable to eat. Once you bite inside, you’ll be welcomed to caramelized apple butter and vanilla cream cheese oozing out. The outer layer has a good flaky texture. -monkey bread 5 - not too sweet. Cinnamon flavor is not overpowering. It’s a clean treat, not too sticky. -almond croissant plain 5 - my personal favorite and I heard this one sells out. I like the almond filling. You may need a napkin to eat it because of the powder. -chocolate gateau basque slice 5 - crumbly texture but firm where it needs to be. No dryness. Rich chocolate taste. -Bahia cake 5 - not overly sweet. You get the sweetness from the mango and tartness from the passion fruit. The Banana helps even out the flavor. Crust has a nice crunch every time you take a bite. ———————————————————— It was my first time coming to this pastry shop. It’s by the AMC movie theater on the left side close to MOD pizza. All of the employees were amiable and helpful. They do provide free samples but don’t be too greedy about it. We did a sample of the pumpkin cheesecake. It was palatable with a nice crunch at the bottom. Prices are a little expensive but the quality is high. -chocolate croissant 4/5 - it was good but it could use more chocolate filling. Too much of the croissant to filling ratio. -vanilla filled cruffin 5/5 - breading and filling ratio was perfect. Cream was very smooth, not sweet. -ham and cheese croissant 5/5 - very tasty snack or light breakfast. Croissant was light and crisp. -bahia 5/5 - smooth mango flavor. Very light snack. -peanut caramel bar 5/5 - not too sweet. Good brunch at the bottom. -pumpkin pie cheesecake 5/5 - one slice is definitely not enough. Creamy, flavorful, and the crust at the bottom has the perfect crunch.

I go here very often, honestly in my opinion - plain 🥐 croissant - cream croissant like the puff are the best. For sweet cake, I would recommend the ccoa chocolate one. It is less sweet ( maybe im a big fan of dark chocolate) compared to all other cakes. I know this place already cut down a lot of sugar but still pretty sweet in general even they recommended to me the lemon tart. Seriously, i wish they could make less sweet then it will be 10/10 🙂 Anyway thank the team for trying to make quality cakes .

Delicious and fresh pastries. One of the most high quality croissants you can get outside of Europe. They also have great service. We had an issue with one order and they were quick to respond and fix the minor issue.

Whenever I visit the attendants inside are super kind and patient and the shop just smells delightful. I've liked just about every pastry I've tried - and they have a lot - and there's such a freshness and lightness to all their pastries. They occasionally come out with new seasonal pastries. It's always best to pre-order those and it's given me opportunities to try new desserts. My favorite seasonal pastries so far are the blueberry tarts and the rasberry vanilla croissants. If you walk into the shop they'll often have macarons and croissants that you can buy in store but again it's best to pre-order. There's also a rewards program so you can save 5 or 10 bucks here and there depending on how often you frequent the shop. Overall always a great experience whenever I go and I've recommended A La Folie to countless friends and family.

Google
Croissants are to me one of life’s small luxuries. It is difficult to find a “real” croissant. Lamination, size, proper buttery layers…Well I found amazing croissants and more at A La Folie! This small shop contains a big selection of outstanding Bakery. The croissants and desserts sell out quickly for good reason if you like me crave quality, delicious, bakery, and desserts. This is your one stop shop. Bonus, the owner is such a lovely person so helpful so nice. This is the kind of business you want to support.

We have order two BAHIA for my daughter’s birthday. The staff is very friendly and helpful to guide me through the menu. And all our guests love the cake! Will definitely recommend this bakery and definitely will come back again!

Google
This was my first time visiting this place, and I know I will be back very soon. They have lots of flavors for their macaroons (all made from almond flour so gluten free!). I highly recommend the raspberry, hazelnut, and Sicilian pistachio. They have ice cream (and sorbet) in addition to pastries. They have croissants over the weekend (they sell out by noon, so make sure to go in before or place an order beforehand). I'd highly recommend this place. They also cater for events and can arrange items for gifts.

Google
Absolutely amazing macarons and cakes!! We got 3 slices: green tea, blueberry, and strawberry - all fantastic! All 3 macarons were a must as well: pistachio, lavender, and chocolate chip 🤤

Yelp
We got 4 pasteries to-go to share with the family. All the pasteries were delicious and the presentation was great. Bahia (10/10) : Everyone loved the flavors in this one. This was the favorite out of the four we got. Ocoa (10/10): This one is rich and chocolatey. Everyone loved this one as well. This was the second favorite out of the four. Opera: (8/10): Was delicous, reminded us of a tiramisu but some of us thought this was on the drier side. It would have been better with a little more moisture in it. Lemon (10/10): Lemony and delicious. Not a favorite but still very yummy.

Yelp
May just be the best croissant I have ever tasted! It is a little pricey but once you taste the quality of the ingredients you will understand why. Oh my goodness is it amazing and totally worth it! The woman behind the counter was also very sweet. Only thing that would make it a little better is if they had seating so you could sit and enjoy.

Laurence P.

Yelp
I honestly try to sample all of their new pastries, unless it is something I know I won't like! This is simple, but exactly what you would finger in France and absolutely delicious! A keeper!

Rebecca W.

Yelp
This was brought into my workplace for Customer Service week. There was an array of pastries - chocolate croissants, macaroons, ham & cheese croissants & more. Everything that I tried was delicious! I heard multiple people ask where these were from. I plan on visiting the store sometime on my own. The only suggestion I have is to label the boxes of what's inside.

Jamie G.

Yelp
Daughter and I came here to check out the macarons and were NOT disappointed. A little pricey but its Naperville. Its a very small location, no real places to enjoy your treats inside, which is too bad because we probably would've tried even more flavors! When we're nearby we'll visit again.

Yelp
Spectacular products. Not to be missed! Macarons and other delicious French pastries. Pleasant and knowledgeable waitstaff

MyKitchens L.

Yelp
Great products perfect executions! Way too perfect for my pallet but again I like to be spoiled.

Yelp
I was looking for a Galette des Rois and came across À La Folie. The galette tasted buttery and flaky, it was delicious. Having lived in Paris, their galette tasted very similar to those from French pâtisseries/boulangeries. My daughter especially liked the nice gold crown and the little chicken fève (wished they could have inserted the fève inside and offered a large size galette). Overall, very authentic French pastries, we enjoyed it!

Yelp
Truly the most authentic and delicious macarons one can get, short of flying across the world! Husband and wife duo Alexis and Jerome have brought France to Naperville and the proof is in the taste. Their macarons have the perfect balance of crunchy exterior and soft but not too soft, sweet but not too sweet interior. A feat which is extremely hard to achieve and yet they do, with intention and grace. Every detail, from the store aesthetic to the logo, is well thought out and seamless. Macarons have been an important part of our relationship and we knew they needed to be part of our wedding day. We chose to do a ''macaron exchange" rather than a cake cutting. Alexis helped us create a flavor profile that fit our personalities and also went well together in a custom tower. Our guests raved about the beautiful macaron tower and loved the fall flavors! With our order, they included a separate box of macarons for my husband and I, with a handwritten note congratulating us. Those kind gestures mean so much to us and truly set businesses apart!

Joe B.

Yelp
I have one word for this place! Outstanding!!! The Macaroons are heavenly and lemon gateau was delish, i can't remember the proper name for the lemon gateau the crust is like a super buttery and delicate shortbread and is filled with a lemon filling not like a lemon curd but just as delicious. It's an indulgence!

R R.

Yelp
Superb almond croissants that rival what I've had in Paris! Fresh and delicious days later. Friendly customer service, as well.

Bailey M.

Yelp
Still my favorite macarons, especially the Madagascar vanilla! If you get 8 or more they are packaged in a beautiful blue box. These would be great as a cute gift since it is so beautifully packaged and tasty! They have also expanded their hours since I've last been here which I was happy about! Now I can come more often when I'm in the area! In addition to expanding their hours they have more flavors, ice cream, and other sweets!

Cherilyn M.

Yelp
Some of the best macarons that I have ever had so got some additional gift boxes to take home back to Utah. Loved this cute bakery with so many delish treats and cute decor. The service was outstanding as well. The name means "Like Crazy" in French, and you would be crazy not to stop by when you are in the Naperville area

Amy R.

Yelp
I am obsessed with A La Folie and cannot believe we're lucky enough to have such an incredible bakery in Naperville. Now Naperville has lots of good bakeries, but my favorite part about them is they all have a niche that empowers all of them to succeed. If I want donuts and cheese bread, I'm going to DeEtta's. If I want decorated cookies and cupcakes, I'm going to Fiene's. But if I want fancy, impressive, sophistication - oh man, am I going to A La Folie. We've taken advantage of many of their weekly/holiday specials (Mother's Day, Father's Day, any week they make ANYTHING with raspberry) and everything we've ever gotten has been exceptional. These are the types of desserts you serve guests, bring to a fancy party, or grab any time you want to be impressive. Their looks are matched by their gorgeous textures and complex flavors. The staff are absolutely wonderful and ordering could not be easier. Get on their mailing list, order straight from their website, and go pick up at your assigned time. Not great at scheduling? No worries, they'll text you if you're running late. And when you get there, you may be lucky enough to find they have extras for purchase, or grab some macarons for your order too. I haven't been to their new location yet, but I assume it is as classy and understated as their old location was. It's such a treat to have A La Folie in our community and I look forward to returning again and again!

Shannon M.

Yelp
A friend bought macarons from this place and brought them to dinner; what a delightful dessert! And such well-crafted macarons, too: the batter wasn't tough so it hadn't been overworked, but achieved a soft (yet not mushy or collapsing) texture. All told the flavors we had were lemon, mango, peanut butter and jelly, coffee, hazelnut, chocolate, salted caramel, & raspberry. I tasted the mango (subtle but tasty), coffee (nice and I amnot even a coffee fan) and pb&j (really did taste like this, but realized successfully as a macaron). They also have beautiful packaging (boxes and bags) so these would make a great gift. Check their website because Tuesday is 25% off day! Can't wait to try more flavors -- it would be folly not to go back to À La Folie!

Debbie H.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious Macarons! These are true French & actually made by a French Chef. Don't miss out. Looks like they also have some great gifting ideas also. Definitely have to visit

Claire L.

Yelp
Finally there is an authentic patisserie featuring French pastries and desserts in Naperville -- and it is incredible! A La Folie, located in South Naperville near the intersection of Rt. 59 and 95th St., is a French pastry shop that features a nice variety of viennoisseries (e.g. croissants) and pastries (e.g. cakes, choux puffs, tarts, etc). We were anxious to try their almond croissant after seeing their online post about it (they regularly feature a different pastry each week) and finally made the visit to the store. The shop has a great atmosphere and features a modern, clean interior design with a light pastel blue theme - and immediately when you walk into the store, you're greeted with the wonderful scent of rich, buttery pastries and breads. Along with the almond croissants (which were generously portioned and had a lot of fresh almond cream inside -- excellent!), we also tried some of their pastries as well, including the opera cake and the peanut caramel bar. Both were not too sweet (which is very good!!) and had such satisfying and complementary flavor notes, including the chocolate/coffee of the opera cake and the nutty caramel of the peanut bar. Will definitely return back soon to try more of their selections!

Janet P.

Yelp
No! No. They are not open today until 5 o'clock as this posting states. So I just drove 20 minutes out of my way to go here to find out that they're not even open on Mondays at all. So maybe the time postings should be corrected on this. And my beef here is not with à la folie. I drove this far out because these are the most amazing Macarons that I've ever had. My problem is is that I drove 20 minutes out my way due to a posting on yelp that was incorrect. I'd like to review yelp thank you.

Anna T.

Yelp
I love everything I tried there!! That is my favorite sweet shop in Naperville!! The Paris Brest which I tried this morning was so delicious!!

Flo J.

Yelp
This bakery is one of the best I've ever been to. Their desserts are unique, beautiful and delicious. I love picking up something from here when we are invited for a dinner party or gathering. The ice cream is also wonderful.

Shari B.

Yelp
I only discovered A La Folie in mid-March. A friend brought them to a game night and they were amazing. I've had Laduree macarons in Paris and these were the same level- if not better. We took advantage of their curb side pick up on Saturday mornings and recently drove all the way to Naperville for these macarons (we live in downtown Chicago). Still amazing as ever! Worth the 80 mile round trip and gave the family something to do on a Saturday morning. My favorite is the raspberry while the hubby loves their peanut butter and jelly. My youngest loves the chocolate while the oldest loves the vanilla.

Maureen W.

Yelp
Everything tasted so good! Also the bakery smelled amazing! I will be back for sure!

J G.

Yelp
They have some of the best pastries and macaroons in Naperville. This place is especially great for a special occasion.

Anna H.

Yelp
We stopped in for a box of macarons as a weekend treat and really enjoyed each flavor! These are the perfect combo of crunchy and creamy. We will be back for more!

Caroline K.

Yelp
The desserts taste as if you were in France. Each item is also so beautifully done but the flavors are what make it so amazing!!

Vicky J.

Yelp
Such a hidden treasure! A web search for "macarons near me" led me to A La Folie and I'm so happy that it did. Thankfully, I had the day off so I stopped by in the afternoon. It is such a great place. I met Alexis, learned more about their selections/background of the shop, and even sampled a passionfruit macaron. Yum! I went with a build your own 16 pack because it was going to be hard to choose between the two assortments. I think I have found my new not-so-guilty pleasure. It's impossible to feel guilty when you're eating something so thoughtfully well made and absolutely delicious.

Ann W.

Yelp
No need to go downtown Chicago for the best Macarons! Their macarons have the best texture and flavors, I personally love the chocolate. Chef Jerome's macarons remind me of Pierre Hermé's. Glad to have the Parisian food experience locally. They offer curbside pick-up, which is very thoughtful in the time of covid. They have croissants too, which are to die for. Oh and the Saturday pastries! Every week, Chef makes a unique one. I have gone maybe 3 out of 4 weeks per month. These depressing times need a pick me upper, and my Saturday morning trips to A La Folie makes the days brighter. PS sign up for weekly emails- Saturday Pastry Updates! Love this place Like Crazy!

Edward E.

Yelp
I have had macaroons from all over the Midwest. I've also tried them in California and New York. Personally I have never been to Paris France so I cannot attest to how good they are there. Let me tell you without a singular doubt in my mind that the level of culinary artistry, creativity and taste is unparalleled for macaroons here. Other places may have a lot more flavors but they cannot even come close to the taste that Chef Jerome puts in them. As an elite yelper I like to give credit where credit is due and these macaroons are the absolutely best phenomenal Macarons that I have ever witnessed. I did ask what they do with their seconds thinking I can get them at a reduced price, but no avail the chef will not put his name on anything other than the most perfect Macarons you cannot get anything else other than the best. Keep in mind folks at either just cookies and yes I fully admonish the fact that yes they were a bakery item, but let me tell you the Macarons here are nothing short of works of art, edible perfection, I had a 20 minute drive this could turn out to be a serious problem for my family. Words cannot express how beautiful the packaging. I cannot recommend these any higher. Bon appétit.

Scott H.

Yelp
Amazing true French pastry at it's best! Silky smooth rich chocolate desserts and amazing crispy, buttery croissants!

Joel M.

Yelp
So if you're craving anything French Patisserie or French croissants look no further. The smell when you open the door and the flavor on your tongue transports you to the best in French culinary arts and flavors from the first bite to the last with anything from A La Folie.... Think we'll make this a destination on a weekly basis if not daily basis. Thank you Chef Jerome for bringing this quality and this culinary culture to SW Chicagoland...

Anika S.

Yelp
Their food was pretty good but very expensive. The service was good and the stores ambiance was luxurious and modern.

Michele H.

Yelp
Pastries amazing but croissants were all sold out by noon. I hope they make larger quantities for the weekend! Macrons were fresh and tasty and oh so good. The opera cakes were exceptionally delicious as were the miniature chocolate bombs. However at $6 to $7 a piece we easily spent $65 dollars there.

Jorge Jr M.

Yelp
Best Macaron I ever taste it. It soft and crunchy and delicious filling I order Madagascar Vanilla, Pistachio, Lemon, Hazelnut, is taste heavenly. It would be great gift for my friend birthday :)

Joeleen D.

Yelp
These macarons are amazing!! My favorite so far are the cassis. Ordered croissants for the weekend. So glad to have this bakery so close!!

Chrissy L.

Yelp
this is the best place to get free samples this is the best place to get a good treat, the ice cream is good and the macaroons is delicious and the customer service is very nice and every time you walk in the doors we feel welcomed, and this wonderful worker named Noelle is so great to us and makes us feel so happy.10/10 recommend

Mary Ellen M.

Yelp
I ordered the macaron tower for my daughter's bridal shower. She is a french teacher and is all about french food. She said the macaron's were the best she has had in the Chicagoland area. They were moist and flavorful! Thank you!!

Nataliya Z.

Yelp
Are you dreaming about the perfect macarons as you remembered them tasted in France in the patisserie, so unbelievably pretty and heavenly delicious that you would take a flight to Paris just to repeat this experience? You do not need to travel far! I found the same perfection in A La Folie in Naperville! After having tried every single flavor available, I can confirm the macarons are simply perfect! A well balanced bouquet of flavors, an impeccable execution and the highest quality ingredients create a unique palette sensation. The abondant creativity of the French pastry chef Jérôme Landrieu is translated in his Saturday specials, many of which I tried and could not help but wanting to come back for new masterpieces. I ordered already my 2 Bûches de Noël and cannot wait for the Christmas Day dinner to savor them. Thank you very much A La Folie for bringing the excitement of the happy anticipation to our lives. I will be back for your new creations!

Tiffany A.

Yelp
Delightful customer service. Beautiful display and delicious macaroons. Presentation was loved by the recipient!

Beth W.

Yelp
These have quickly become a household favorite. If you are near the area you must stop by to pick these up!

Jillian H.

Yelp
Absolutely the best macaroons! The exterior has the perfect light crunch and the inside is soft and moist. The caramel and vanilla are outstanding, flavorful, french perfection. I'm looking forward to trying all the other flavors.

jessica b.

Yelp
If you want something truly special, order from A la Folie! Macarons are incredible! I purchased 2 boxes as gifts, which were packaged beautifully. Wonderful variety of flavors and by far the best I have had. I highly recommend to order their specialty desserts when available - absolutely delicious! Thank you A la Folie!

Denise A.

Yelp
We're addicted. We live for the Saturday pastries. Professional staff and taste is authentic and incredible. No need to go to Paris. Thank you Alexis and Jerome.

Melissa P.

Yelp
I would have never known this place existed if not for yelp. I hope they bring the Saturday pastries back because it sounds like they were wonderful, but the macaroons are more than enough reason to seek this place out. We tried several flavors (the lemon was my favorite) and they were all delicious.

Stephanie S.

Yelp
The BEST macarons we've ever had. Crisp exterior, slight chew in the center, and the most fresh fillings you could imagine. Friendly and warm service. The packaging is also gorgeous, would make a great gift! Check them out!!

Kayla M.

Yelp
I got my mom a variety pack of macaroons for mother's day. I ordered online and selected a pickup time. Due to covid, they were offering curbside pickup. I called when I arrived and my order was promptly brought out. My mom LOVED the macaroons. So I'm quite sure we'll be back :)

Matthew W.

Yelp
The best macarons on the planet. Made with exact precision and passion, each flavor is incredible. Brilliant idea for a corporate event, gift, or to keep all to yourself! Great professional, family run business. Cannot recommend enough. Thanks À La Folie!

Megan d.

Yelp
Best macaroons & they also have different items each Saturday. Croissants are delicious as well! Also, a friendly family owned shop with beautiful packaging. Have ordered for many others & have gotten nothing but great feedback!

Linda D.

Yelp
A La Folie needs a 10 star rating!! From beginning to end an absolute class act. The owners are two amazing humans that have brought heaven to earth through their Macaroons. THE BEST product in the United States and we are so lucky to have had the pleasure of finding and meeting Alexis and Chef Jerome! TOP NOTCH service with exquisite, delectable Macaroons. The world needs to meet A La Folie!!! Thank you to this lovely couple for sharing your gift with us.
