A Place Called Home is exactly what their name represents. My children have been members since they were old enough to attend. This organization gives so much to the community. They provide great resources for parents and make sure that their members have everything they need emotionally, physically, and also their personal needs. I have never been to an organization like this before, they deserve every sponsorship that they receive. Everything they do is really for the community and the employees are very kind. You can tell that they have love and compassion for their members. It’s a very positive and safe environment for children. They provide a lot of great programs for the children as well as community events so families who are not involved still get to appreciate their services. It’s awesome.💗💕 One day I hope to be able to give back to them.

if not for apch and the wonderful mentors I had there, I can't imagine where I'd be now. nearly 30 years gone by and I still think fondly on this place. it used to be a strange mix of celebrities looking to "do something good" and people who grew up in South Central and wanted to give back to their community. Some of the celebrities who came through or taught there were cool and as a kid it mattered a lot to see that people gave a damn about us. A lot of the time in the 90s, LA didn't feel that way. sometimes we had celebs who clearly were there outta some sort of obligation. usually to a friend or family member volunteering. One group I was in called "gangbusters" mostly functioned as "something to do". Our mentor was dope. she encouraged us, she went to the same elementary school I did and was from the area. she got us on good field trips and always had a new activities (arts &crafts, riddles, puzzles, etc) for us to do. sometimes our group outings were to the founder's (Deborah) house in West LA, which did always feel more like this lady giving a weird flex than actually being about us, but her pool was nice even if she was a little pretentious and showed me favoritism because I spoke "standard" English and rarely used aave, versus some of the other little girls. But we weren't there for her, so it really didn't matter to us.

2 years ago it was fun like I said to myself like "oh this place is great" I wish I stayed here forever". But today in 2025, for in my opinion, it's boring, all I want to do is just go home and play withy cat at home.

There is this trend going on on tiktok about people google mapping their childhood homes and all I can think of is about APCH. I literally cry because I miss it so much till this day. It’s been almost 20 years already and i think about apch all the time since i left! I started in 2006 and stopped going in 2013-14. I was heart broken LITERALLY. My family and i had to move out and i had to start HS somewhere else i would cry everyday in that school because of how much i missed apch. I missed the friends i made/had , i missed dancing everyday and performing i missed trying every other activity there was there just for fun, i missed the staffs, i missed the person i was at apch i missed the memories EVERYTHING. i still can’t believe how time has gone by so fast but being at apch felt like a dream . I don’t even say these stuff about regular school because i can think of is just apch. Going to school everyday but being super excited to get out so i can head to apch right after school was always something i was looking forward to. Ugh i can keep going and going about how much i love apch about the good and bad and everything just EVERYTHING apch has done for me. But it’s all memories now and i am now an adult but little me is forever grateful and will forever miss apch. Thank you for everything🤍

This place is not for all. They denied to give me a backpack today as they promised one. I took metro to take there as it is miles away from my house. I was on the summer’s heat for 2 and half hours. I couldn’t hold back my tears after they denied me. How poor dad I am as I cannot buy a good bag for my daughter and have to meet such people who humiliate me without any proper reason. They couldn’t prove me I am not one of the members of community. This is a disgrace. I never go back there. If I make enough money in future I promise to give backpack to my community without judging their races and personalities.

Became a member in 2013 at 16 years old and my life was changed forever! Love this place and my family has been very grateful because of the memories and opportunities available to the youth because of the work of apch. I got to travel and got my college paid for because of this place. 🖤🖤🖤

It's my second home. The perfect place for kids and teens where they can find many activities, like homework help, music, sports, art, scholarship opportunities, and more. This is an organization nonprofit that it's good to have in our community. It's a pleasure being part of APCH family

Yelp
A TRUE story! There's heartache, love, deception, all embroiled within this series in almost every episode! Worthy of a good binge! Delivers a warm, but expected ending, but really sincere. TIP: Have a good box of tissue at your side.

Yelp
I'm setting up my tripod and video camera when a little girl comes up to me with such curiosity. She's about 7 or 8 years old. LITTLE GIRL: What do you do? ME: I'm a video producer! LITTLE GIRL: So am I! I like to make videos and put them on YouTube! ME: You do? I watched some of the videos on your organization's YouTube channel. Maybe I watched one of the videos that you produced :) At this point I've already seen a good amount of the facility. Basic field lights for filming with white reflectors, c-stands, and cameras that looked as nice as the Panasonic HVX I was operating. I'm not surprised that this girl who is younger than my niece has created something amazing in the profession that I'm in. That's what A Place Called Home is all about. Teaching super-awesome creative skills with actual hands on experience to at-risk youth. Or at least that's what I got out of it for the tiny 4 hours I spent there. This non-profit organization can be better explained here: http://www.apch.org/about.php So why was I there? I was shooting coverage of the band Glitch Mob who was visiting the kids to teach them about music. (VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0N3fhwGxJM&feature=share&list=PLD77A27A19BFC23F3) This facility already had essential tools to create amazing things: Keyboards, guitars, and other instruments. Computers with Pro Tools software. Sound mixing boards. A full functioning recording studio. And guess what? These kids have the creative freedom to play with it all! After Glitch Mob taught the kids a few cool tricks of the trade, the kids got to show off their talents to the working professionals. Kids free-style rapped, sang songs, played videos that were uploaded, and played tracks that were recorded and mixed. They're stuff was GOOD! I was bobbin' my head to it! It looked like Glitch Mob loved spending time with the kids! They even asked the kids for demos to take with them! Mad props to Sabrina who organized today's event! She is the music instructor and studio engineer at APCH. What she does for these kids is provide them with the opportunity to do great things that will help shape their futures. Major HIGH FIVES to that!!! This organization seems like a really cool safe haven for kids. And these kids are eager to learn cool things from people that do cool things. If you consider yourself awesome and wanna share your mad skillz with a bunch of fun kids, check out A Place Called Home. Here's a cute photo of Glitch Mob with the kids: http://flic.kr/p/8RYrVd Video soon to come...

Yelp
This organization is extremely helpful for the kids in Los Ángeles and gives them opportunity to follow their passions and dreams. There are a variety of sports and clubs kids can be apart of. Including an art studio, and a music studio. This place is absolutely amazing. It allows for children to bond and make friends as well. Very friendly kid loving staff.
