Crazy to think this place has been around since 1926 and I had never even heard of it! We had dinner here with friends, of course we ordered a ton of food, and I loved pretty much everything I tried.
Service was impeccable from start to finish. Our waiter checked on us constantly, drinks were topped off before we even finished the ones we had, plates were cleared immediately, water was filled non-stop. Seriously AMAZING service.
They give you a fresh loaf (like straight out of the oven, burn your fingers hot) of french bread with butter as soon as you sit down, and they aren't shy about bringing more (still piping hot) if you want it.
Appetizers - Hamachi Crudo & Meatballs. These were both solid, tasty appetizers, but not mind blowing. I preferred the Meatballs to the Hamachi (and the Hamachi is the one I wanted the most), but I honestly feel we could have skipped the appetizers and not missed anything.
Starters - Caesar Salad & French Onion Soup. I had the salad. When it was set in front of me I thought it looked dry, but it wasn't. Each piece of lettuce was coated just enough with their yummy caesar dressing, and my favorite part was the fried capers that topped the salad. This was large, I split it with the table and we didn't finish the whole thing. I tried a bite of the French Onion soup and that broth was phenomenal! So rich and delicious. I was jealous of my friend who ordered it and got to eat all the melted cheese!
Entrees - Salmon, Halibut, Bone-in Ribeye, and Hanger Steak. The steaks were delish, cooked to perfection. Loved that they serve them with a whole head of roasted garlic to spread on the meat. YUM. I tried a bite of the salmon and it was good! My halibut was great, absolutely loved the lemon risotto, saffron beurre blanc, and artichoke hearts. I though my meal was excellent, and I didn't leave any behind to take home.
Sides - Bistro Fries, Potato Puree, Grilled Asparagus, and Cumin Roasted Baby Carrots. The fries were fine, but what made them was the truffle aioli served with them. Bummed to find out when we got home they didn't include any sauce in the to go bag, will definitely ask for that in the future if we get it again. Potato Puree was sooooo good, I seriously could have eaten the entire ramekin. So smooth and decadent! Asparagus were great, some of the thickest I have even seen! Carrots were good, loved the roasted almonds on them for texture.
Desserts - Apple Cheesecake & Corn Madeleines. I had one bite of the cheesecake and it was good! A bit too light for what I expect of cheesecake (not dense at all) but the apple flavor was nice, like an apple pie. The Madeleines were the hit of the desserts, and maybe my favorite thing I had all night! Savory like cornbread, with a hint of sweetness, crunchy on the sides. They are served with berries and fresh whipped cream, I did think the cream was very good, but I could honestly pop those babies in my mouth with nothing on them, they were crazy good!
Dinner was about $150 per person, but we also ordered a lot of food, and many drinks...probably 8 glasses of beer/wine/cocktails. Parking is valet only, $7 and they accept credit cards.
I'm so glad I found out about this place, I will not hesitate to come back. Great ambiance, delicious food, and excellent service. No wonder they have been around so long!
