The 9 Best Souvenirs from Paris

"One of a handful of famous cookware stores clustered near each other that are full of French kitchen tools and items; shopping here is as much about the in-store experience as the purchase, and it's a good place to hunt for high-quality items like Peugeot salt and pepper mills, prized for their durability and history." - Dayna Evans

This place is a gem! We came in twice in a day, first do check the selection of stainless steel pans, but we had to run some other errands first, and then we came back to purchase. It was a Saturday, sure, the store is pretty busy, but at both times we were met with friendly and knowledgable staff out on the floor, who did their best to help us with our needs. Yes, Bonjour when you meet and speaking French certainly helps, but they were helping people in English as well. We ended up with several items, including a stainless steel Mauviel 1830 pan which is listed at 214€ on Mauviel's website, but we paid 166€ at the store, so we cannot even complain on the prices. I've lived in Paris for over a year, I've been to several kitchen supply stores, this is my favourite so far. We are definitely coming back. PS I talked to the staff about having several staff out on the floor, and they mentioned they have a huge problem with people stealing products. I can certainly appreciate the staff keeping a watchful eye on clients in the store.

The sheer breadth of products is amazing... but the staff barely helpful and rather "blasé". We purchased over 500 euros worth of kitchen items and were met with no smiles, a timid thank you, etc... very good illustration of the "French cliché ". That is really too bad as the store is well appointed, with quality products that should be honored with equally quality staff...

I am so disappointed to be writing this as I was looking forward to coming to this store since the day I arrived in Paris. I just moved to the city and was looking for a high quality store I could purchase my kitchen wear in. From the moment I walked in (with my 60+ year old mother), we were treated horrifically. The staff were not only rude, but followed us around staring and rolling their eyes. After 20+ minutes in the store, an employee came up to my husband, grabbed our basket of goods out of his hands, slammed them on the counter and proceeded to ring up the items. Mind you, my family were not even speaking to one another throughout our visit due to how uncomfortable we felt. Despite the fact that we were still shopping they insisted we check out immediately. We spent over 600 euros in the store and got not so much as a goodbye. I left the store in tears. I will never be returning and advise anyone else who might be in the market for kitchen goods to go elsewhere.

Ive been to Paris twice and have had nothing but great and friendly experiences with people except at this place. I set my items on the counter and gave the lady (middle aged to older blonde) the best "bonjour" i could, and she ignored me while doing other stuff behind the counter. I was fine and just looked at stuff hanging up by the counter while she was busy. I didnt think there was a problem until after quite a bit of time had passed and another lady working there went over and said something to her and then the blonde lady started saying stuff with a very bad tone. I dont speak French, but I could tell whatever she was saying wasnt nice. I was a little shocked so I looked at a second worker standing behind her, and she looked at me uncomfortably. I then looked at the first lady, and she had an uncomfortable look on her face as well. I then asked the first lady if I was standing in the wrong spot or something, but she didnt speak English. Maybe 10-20 seconds later the blonde lady helped me, but it was obvious this was an unpleasant customer service experience. When I was shopping there, I didnt say a peep except to maybe my wife, so Im at a loss to what triggered her. I give this place 2 stars instead if 1, because it was a cool store with lots of great kitchen stuff.

Rude and impolite blond women, middle aged in her 50/60s. Can’t believe I ever bought anything here before. Felt agressed and not one kind word coming towards me, looking for an kitchen item.

Yelp
Everything is amazing in this little shop. When in Paris, you should stop by. The product lines (e.g. Mauviel) was amazing.

Yelp
Selection is amazing. Kitchen items that are not easy to find in the US. I thought prices were good.

Yelp
Do NOT trust this store. They will not honor their own policies. I bought a Vitamix blender from them. After trying to use it, a burning smell came from the motor. I took it back to exchange, which it clearly says you can on their own receipt. But they would not exchange it. They said because it had been used, they would not accept it. But how would I know it's faulty if I don't use it?!?!? No where on the receipt does it say the item can't be used for an exchange. Why else would you want to exchange it except for it not working? And how would you know it doesn't work? BY USING IT!!! So their policy is a lie. They don't honor their policy. They basically sold me a 500 euro broken machine and will do nothing about it. Thieves. Liars. And truly the worst customer service. Go ANYWHERE else. They steal from chefs.

Yelp
If you've been to A Simon recently you may have noticed the improved layout and additional items, like spices and specialty syrups mixed in with the kitchen appliances. Well I did some reconnaissance on a recent visit and found out that there has been a change in ownership and that the new owners of A Simon are G. DETOU!! That's right, the fabulous culinary specialty shop around the corner has extended its dominion! Can't think of a better succession story.

Yelp
I think they have the best prices! I got my copper 55 ml caneles molds here for 8.5 . Other nearby places were selling the same thing for up to double the price!

Yelp
A. Simon regularly makes foodie lists about where to buy cookware in Paris. In fact, within a 2 block radius, you'll find the other big names: Mora (more specialized in bakeware), Bovida (also cookware). So its relatively easy to go comparison shopping. On price point for the same item, A.Simon beats everyone including BHV when they are having a sale and even dinky restaurant wholesaler stores I've visited. More importantly, their customer service is outstanding. These shops cater to professionals and serious home cooks (which I am not). They stock top of the line products so it can be intimidating if you're not sure what you want. In the other stores, it's more of everyone for themselves. Here, a really lovely shop lady not only took the time to explain the different brands of pans, tried to understand my cooking style, space constraints in my kitchen, etc, leave me to ponder then come back to answer my follow up questions. There was no sales pressure and lots of attention even if it was clear I wasn't going to be big-time purchaser. Speaking to the quality of their wares, we accidentally left a glass pan cover on a turned on induction stove with a broken signal light for 2 days. Moving along from the massive fire bullet we dodged, the pan cover was in perfect condition. After being heated for that long, a lower grade glass cover would have exploded or at least cracked. Highly recommend going here if you are looking to upgrade and invest in quality in your kitchen, whether you're a casual or serious cook.

Yelp
A really fun store to browse--sort of an industrial version of Sur la Table, but, in true Parisian fashion, there are all sorts of tiny nooks and crannies with treasures to find, and stacks and stacks of things on every surface.

Yelp
Went there to buy an edge-guard for my brand new chef knife, bringing the latter with me (still in its packaging) for reference. The saleswoman wanted to open the packaging of my knife to see if the edge-guard would work, so she picked up a cheap paring knife and tried to rip open the plastic. I was so horrified, it took my a second to tell her to stop. During this second, of course she didn't manage to open it, but she did badly scratch my 100€+ knife. She then barely issued an apology, going so far as to say "it doesn't matter, anyway you're going to scratch it plenty of times during its lifetime!" (no ma'am, that's exactly why I'm buying an edge guard!). If you care about your kitchen utensils, do yourself a service and don't set foot near this bunch of amateurs.

Yelp
Love, love, love this store! Picked up an A. Simon Paris MacArthur Park serving dish with an adorable lobster, starfish and jellyfish design. Such a fun and innovative shopping experience!
