The 15 Best Restaurants In Bar Harbor, Maine 2024

"This tiny bakery has tons of kitschy touches, like a display of decorative batter beaters and repurposed sewing machine tables. Most people line up for the palm-sized bagels, which are baked fresh daily and have a nice, fluffy chew. Order an everything with scallion cream cheese, and if you get there before 1pm, consider the cheesy omelet breakfast sandwiches." - anne cruz

Tasty baked goods in Bar Harbor! We loved the blueberry crumble pie. We also tried two bagels, which were not the best I’ve ever had, but were flavorful and loaded with plenty of cream cheese! They have coffee as well, but they only use Torani syrups which don’t always taste great. The ladies in there were super sweet, although the atmosphere wasn’t great, as I felt like it needed some quiet music in the background or something. Either way, I enjoyed the treats.

Google
Stopped in for an afternoon treat, the sweet choices were almost unlimited. We chose a slice of lemon poppy seed cake. It was delicious, as was the latte, hot with very tasty coffee. The service was friendly and asked great questions. Don’t go anywhere else; this is the place to visit. Sweet atmosphere, too!

Google
Absolutely a top ten worldwide bakery. The cheese danish actually has cheese in it. The blueberry danish has fresh blueberries and not just sugar and corn syrup. Don't miss out - they have different options every day.

Google
Lovely bakery and coffee shop tucked in a house setting in the heart of the bar harbor. Supports a very rustic ambiance and gives very easy and chill vibes. Also, they offer amazing custom cakes with a day or two heads up. In terms of coffee offerings, they keep it simple with a few basic ones and have a couple of different flavors. I like their Pain Au Chocolate with and without the raspberry filling and their blueberry muffin.

Google
Ahhh.... a Slice of Eden.... I wanted to say that the pies were made with so much love that the staff had nothing left to share which is why they were so utterly devoid of human emotions. However the bland blueberry pie was as disappointing as the spiritless workers. There are many other places in Bar Harbor. Keep walking East, West, North or South of Slice of Eden.

Google
Great coffee and bagel sandwiches! My husband and I placed a to-go order then took our haul up to Cadillac Mountain to enjoy breakfast with a view! I thought the bagel sandwiches were simply delicious. We also got a chocolate donut, chocolate croissant, and a blueberry coffee cake for the road, but I think Slice of Eden really shines more with the bagels. The baked goods were ok, the blueberry coffee cake was the best. I had a fun conversation with the gal placing our order, and would recommend a stop for breakfast! 🩷

Google
The person at the register seemed pretty unhappy to be there. There wasn't anything specifically wrong with the food - but it was just bland and there wasn't a lot lot to it. Both our breakfast sandwiches looked kind of sad. Seating area outside is kind of nice. We went elsewhere for a breakfast sandwich the next day and it was just much better.

Google
The best breakfast sandwich, blueberry scone & fresh brewed iced tea I've ever had! I was lucky enough to enjoy a beautiful afternoon snack at one of the outdoor tables. I ordered the "Western style" egg and cheese with turkey sausage on one of their homemade bagels. It was incredible! I love when a place offers alternatives to pork sausage. They have both vegan and turkey sausage. I had to have something blueberry and noticed that they only had one of their scones left. So I tried that as well... Wow! It was so delicious!!! Their fresh brewed iced tea was seriously good too! We had to take a few more baked goods back to our Airbnb. All of which were yummy. A must stop location when you're visiting Bar Harbor...

Yelp
Beautiful little spot with great food! Loved my bagel breakfast sandwich! Highly recommend the pecan sticky bun!

Yelp
Out looking for a hot latte and found A Slice of Eden. Look for the red door to find a wonderful coffee shop. Service was excellent. I chose my milk type and number of espresso shots (two please). Bakery items looked good, especially the sticky buns, but I only came for the coffee. The place was cozy with lots of patrons chatting and a beautiful sunny patio out front. Great stop.

Claire E.

Yelp
I paid $9 for an iced latte and it was horrible, it tasted super Burnt and bitter. It almost tasted like they had premade their espresso and let it sit and get really bitter. Definitely would not recommend.

Yelp
I thank the owners for providing a delish cup of coffee and a tasty lemon poppy seed doughnut. Their ambiance is warm, welcoming, and relaxing. I especially thank them for allowing me to sit on their patio after hours to take one of those "can't miss" calls. Given the number of coffee shops, bakeries, breakfast restaurants in Bar Harbor, I would return to spend my money with A Slice of Eden for food quality and outdoor seating. There is lots of space, a water bowl for our 4-legged friends, and flowers along the edges. The name is apt as they offer tranquility from all the tourist activities. Highly recommend as a not miss to recharge, relax, and re-orient oneself before planning more activities! I wish them a great season! Patrick Shaughnessy Chicago, IL

Yelp
Slice of Eden came highly recommended to my by a friend but it was very underwhelming. They were out of the vegan burrito option and the whole wheat protein bagel with vegan cream cheese wasnt that great. Ambiance was fine and they do have outdoor seating too- I wasnt very impressed with this place.

Yelp
Service was poor. The owner of the place, a woman, was not friendly. The way she spoke to costumers was baffling. I was shocked how she spoke to Asian customers standing behind me. A tip for the owner: if the line is so important to you, redesign the layout. Currently, the line order is not clear and confusing. Coffee tasted burnt and old. We literally got there the moment they opened at 6:15am. Pastry was good. Asked for mine to be warmed and the owner had some sly remark about that as well. Only came here because it was the only place open after catching the sunrise at Cadillac Mountain. Wasn't worth the hassle for the bad coffee!

Yelp
I only give this place one star because the cashier was incredibly rude for no reason. We were not difficult customers and knew exactly what we were getting by the time we got to the register. We spent about $250 and you would think she would be grateful for our business, especially in the off season. But no, she clearly wasn't. The food and coffee were absolutely incredible though.

Yelp
Best coffee and breakfast sandwiches around! Such a romantic little spot for early morning relaxation time to talk and enjoy. We parked right in front of the restaurant and went really early so street was empty!

Yelp
In any town I visit, I'm on the lookout for an amazing bakery. So even before I arrived in Bar Harbor, I had done my research and had my sights set on A Slice of Eden. When you walk in, it seems quite nondescript- there's no long line, there's no fussy decor- it definitely does not feel like a place that is trying way too hard to cater to the throngs of tourists meandering their way along Cottage Street. However, don't let that fool you- this establishment is putting out delicious baked goods. I tried a slice of their blueberry pie and their pecan sticky bun. Both were fantastic. The blueberry pie was the best I've ever tasted- the blueberry filling was packed with fresh, sweet blueberries- it wasn't too sweet, it was not jammy at all, and was filled with brilliant, natural blueberry flavor. The crust was a perfect consistency as well- not soggy, not overdone or crispy, just the ideal level of doneness / moistness. Even without any ice cream, it was sublime. The pecan sticky bun was also fantastic- it had notes of brown sugar/ caramel goodness, lots of pecans, and was an ideal pastry to try for anyone who is a fan of sticky buns, sticky babkas, or cinnamon rolls. The person I was traveling with also tried both the blueberry pie and the pecan bun, and independently confirmed that both were "wow....amazing!" and "the best pie I ever tasted." Given how delicious everything was that I tried here, I can only imagine how great the rest of their offerings are. When you're in Bar Harbor, definitely stop in and try something!

Yelp
This place was very cute and casual. Perfect for a fall morning stop in. We got an array of goodies. Note that they can sell out. The gal working the register, although thorough, wasn't confident with the technology. Why have the POS system if you also write down the order ticket on a piece of paper? Who knows. Loved the seasonal drink options and a day old bakery selection.

Yelp
Great blueberry bagels and scones! Feels very local and has a nice patio to sit and enjoy.

Yelp
Got a pumpkin cider donut, I believe that's the name, this morning and it was AMAZING. I also got an apple cinnamon turnover which was wonderful and two teas. Prices weren't bad at all and service was quick and friendly. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Every time I'm Bar Harbor I always make sure to stop here! The vanilla latte is delicious and exactly what I need for a fall/winter trip Down East. The inside is super cute but there is very limited seating available. Definitely the kind of place to take a coffee to go and stroll around Bar Harbor.

Yelp
Well, their espresso drinks are horrible. I ordered a espresso macchiato, pretty basic drink. They even told me they make a "traditional" macchiato not the Starbucks version. Ok. I get that, some folks might be confused if they're used to the caramel, milky version that Starbucks offers, but if you're going to flex on Starbucks you should have basic barista skills. Sadly, they do not. Mine was heavy in the hand, a quick giveaway that it's going to be bad, it got worse, so hot it burned my tongue, and the beans are way over roasted. Service is as if they're doing me a favor. That place had a line, which should give them hope, the first timers can keep you running. My $5 drink made it into the closest trash can. These are $3 to $3.50 in France, NYC, and Italy. Not sure there are better options in Bar Harbor, maybe try tea?

Yelp
Odd little place with service that is lacking warmth or care. That said I have been trying blueberry pies all over MDI and this place has a delicious pie. I would keep coming back even with the curt transactions for this heavenly pie.

Joel M.

Yelp
Made me a gluten free cake -- used much care to prevent cross-contamination in prep and packaging. Cake was DELICIOUS! Great icing, moist cake, and beautiful finish with icing flowers.

Yelp
Such a gem! I had a bagel sandwich with cheddar, eggs, and bacon and I wanted to go back everyday for another one. All of the pastries looked amazing but I decided to try the pretzel and it didn't disappoint.

Yelp
Good coffee actually the best I've had in Bar harbor but first day I got there at 6 am and the coffee was very hot. Second day I got there at 7 am and it was warm. It's in a big craft pump container so it most not be refilled often. It's a small bakery type of place. I had a blueberry and lemon poppy muffin. They were ok. Nothing great. The lady was friendly and I know it's early morning but she could be a little more welcoming.

Yelp
Giving this place a lower review because the workers were not very inviting or nice. We got some dessert to go - a peanut butter Whoopie pie and a coconut slice. The desserts were pretty good.

Yelp
Decent quick stop, but nothing special or memorable as far as I'm concerned. There is one picnic table available, but otherwise all takeout. The server working this morning clearly had no time for niceties but she kept the line moving so I'll rate service above average. I grabbed a medium roast flavored with hazelnut and it was definitely a nice blend. Very pleasantly smooth with no bitterness. I imagine they brew frequently to keep up with the lines. I also grabbed a slice of lemon chiffon cake and that was pretty meh. I expected more on the sweet front. It wasn't bad in terms of flavor. The lemon was bright but the cake was on the dry and crumby side. Next time I'm downtown in Bar Harbor I might pop into a different shop. Although I wouldn't mind another coffee from Eden.

Yelp
Good food with a Nasty Side of Tude. Waited 25 min for 2 takeout bagels. Owner finally said "can I help you?" Said nicely "just waiting for my order." Did she say "so sorry, we'll take care of it...." No. She shockingly snapped back with 9 kinds of defensive and rude. In our opinion - this was not customer service or even common decent manners. We truly understand - holiday wknd, staffing is hard, etc. Maybe she was already (before 8am) having s bad day, peace and love to her. The food was very good, but there is good food everywhere and elsewhere in this area, where the owners and servers are polite and treat customers like they want their business. Will Not Ever Be Back.

Lenora J.

Yelp
The custom birthday cakes we ordered were beautiful, delicious, and ready at the requested time. Even during the height of the summer tourist rush, they accommodated my special request and did so graciously and professionally.
google avatar

Amanda H.

Yelp
Small shop that's good for breakfast. My friends enjoyed the breakfast bagel and croissants. Not a lot of seating available though

Janae L.

Yelp
Biscuit breakfast sandwich was amazing!!! The coffee was good too. Nice fresh ingredients and very fast service.

Yelp
After an early morning sunrise on the harbor we were hungry for something light before the big breakfast at our inn. Someone walking by recommended A Slice of Eden & it was the perfect spot for a pick-me-up! I ordered a sugar free vanilla latte with almond milk & one of their specialty blueberry muffins. After all, blueberries are a Maine thing, so I had to have something baked with fresh ones while there! The staff was very friendly, the space was adorable, & everything tasted delicious. We took our morning treats with us to the top of Cadillac Mountain for an early morning walk & it was the perfect pairing.
google avatar

Penelope M.

Yelp
Oh, their Cream Puffs were the bomb!! Custard was smooth and delicately sweet, protected by their puff , then the puff was covered by a glazed chocolate. This beautiful thing is huge, so like a fool, I quartered it, deceiving myself to eat it gradually throughout the day... only to finish it in one sitting, sipping black coffee in between. I have poor self control with everything delicious. The mini vanilla cake, cupcakes and the Chocolate Bombs were also good. I ordered 2 Chocolate Bombs, but she only gave us one. We were staying in Gouldsboro, so it was a hassle to deal with that. But their Blueberry Smoothie was just fabulous!! People of Maine have a knack for making blueberry stuff so amazingly delicious!

Nishka B.

Yelp
Excellent pastries, cakes, teas, and fresh bagels. Ask for them well toasted. They have a few seats indoors and a nice large patio. I noticed they have quiches and ready made sandwiches that would be ideal for a picnic.
google avatar

Kathryn S.

Yelp
Excellent lunch sandwiches! Ordered them for our group. Delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies too.
google avatar

Sharon N.

Yelp
We ordered a breakfast bagel with a western egg with pork sausage and cheddar cheese and an breakfast croissant sandwich with a western egg, peppers & onions, Turkey sausage & provolone. When it came out, mine was missing the peppers & onions, but I was too hungry to make a fuss.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
I am an early riser and walked all through town looking for coffee. Even the coffee shops were all closed after 6:00am. I finally saw someone carrying a coffee cup and asked. She directed me to A Slice of Eden. The other early morning risers were there also. There was a short wait after placing my order of a bacon, egg, and provolone on a croissant. The staff was friendly and brought my order out to me as I sat outside. I appreciated that the coffee came first, which tasted fine. The sandwich was great. Delicious, buttery croissant with egg and bacon cooked to perfection. The restaurant itself is a cute little place with a large patio seating area outside. I would definitely come back. I highly recommend.
google avatar

Debbie G.

Yelp
The coconut chocolate bar was so good. The PBLT also had a great bun. Comes with a bag of chips.
google avatar

Felicia M.

Yelp
Go early and beat the rush! Coffee was great and the pastry was handmade. I scooted out of town but they had a small patio for dining.
google avatar

Sumana K.

Yelp
This review will be entirely dedicated to the chocolate croissant - that shocked my tastebuds. This is one of the few coffee shops that is open at 6am, so we stopped by after watching the sunrise ( or that morning - clouds) at the top of Cadillac mountain. I bought a coffee and a chocolate croissant that was right next to the register - very strategic placement I might add. The croissant was perfect- warm, light and crispy. I can only imagine how divine the rest of the selection of baked goods must be.

Donna T.

Yelp
Bagel tastes good, but VERY disappointed at how little spread there was, paid $3.75 for lox, capers & onion spread and there is like NONE on one side: how is this okay?? Cappuccino was just okay, but it was the only place open after coming from Sunrise at Cadillac/Acadia. My guess is since they open early they don't have to try very hard.

Christine L.

Yelp
Best pie I've ever had! Not too sweet, perfect with a hefty scoop of good vanilla ice cream.
google avatar

Tianna A.

Yelp
Just left the bakery...I don't think we will ever go back. Lady at the counter, maybe even the owner??? was atrocious To. Every. Customer plus the employees ... It is 7:30 am, no one wants to start their day with rude attitude.

Wdc E.

Yelp
I ordered a coffee black & it came to me w cream. When I let them know they had made a mistake & acknowleded/confirmed that the ticket said "black" she said that I would have to unfortunately purchase another order for the proper order. This is a not a joke. She said that this was their policy. What if they gave me the wrong meal? Would I have to re-order what I actually paid for? Eventually, after some back and forth they reluctantly and with great attitude made me a drink as I actually ordered it. I never leave bad reviews but the customer service policy at this establishment is corrupt & I have been associated with the service industry for over 25 years. You cannot legitimately, as a business, except an exchange of money for goods & then change the agreement of that exchange by providing something that was not agreed to. The feta scone I ordered was fine.
google avatar

Elaine M.

Yelp
We were short on time so wanted to grab a quick breakfast. This place really hit the mark. I had a bagel sandwich with egg, cheese and my choice of meat. Lot's of cheese choices and even a vegetarian sausage option along with the usual suspects. They even had a sign with many vegan options with multiple vegan cheeses for your bagel. For my coffee I had a choice of many different types of milk. Yum, I got a cappuccino with oat milk. Our breakfast was delivered quickly to our outdoor table. Currently masks are required inside the establishment. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Allison M.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast sandwiches! Loved the Western with veggie sausage and cheddar on a croissant. We noted the big range of vegan options, too. Super inviting place with adorable outdoor seating out front. Plus when we came they were one of the only places in town stocked with bottled water!

Yelp
I stopped by here earlier today with my wife for our morning coffee and breakfast. A Slice of Eden is open before 7 AM unlike some of the other coffee shops in town which was convenient for us. It's located on Main St just near the edge of the store area of town and is a nice little small store. They have two display cases full of pastries, a black and white checkered floor and bar stool seating for only 8 people. For breakfast on this day I decided to go with a cheddar bagel breakfast sandwich with bacon and cheddar on it. Then for my coffee I went with a coconut milk latte. The number of choices that I had just with these two items was pretty crazy as for the breakfast sandwich I had at least 8 bagel choices, 5 protein choices (my wife got sausage and had 3 sausage choices: pork, turkey and vegetarian), 5 cheese choices and about 6 different choices of milk for my latte. I tried my sandwich first and thought that it was quite good. The bagel was toasted nicely and the egg was one of the better ones I have had on a sandwich. Meanwhile the cheese was melted nicely and the bacon was crispy. What else could you want in a breakfast sandwich. My latte was also pretty good as you could taste the coffee part of it. The only thing that I was a little disappointed with was the coconut milk as if I didn't know that's what was in it, I don't think I could have told you. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Both my wife and I enjoyed our food and coffee here, so why not?
google avatar

Stephen T.

Yelp
Cozy and cute atmosphere. The French toast latte was very very good! Felt like I was in my grandmas house
google avatar

Irene H.

Yelp
Should be called a slice of heaven! Since Maine is known for their blueberries, we had to go around trying blueberry pie slices. We tried one slice - became obsessed bought three entire pies hehe. Be regrets - the crust is magnificent on these pies and the filling ... I don't know how to describe it without drooling. If you're in the area, give it a try! Super friendly, local, mouth watering delicious blueberry pies.
google avatar

Joseph C.

Yelp
Stopped in this morning at their still new locale when they were the only one open on west Cottage street. Super friendly folks with superb pastries and good coffee. With no prompting, sent me back to my car with a fresh treat for our puppy as well! I'll be back as COVID permits. My eldest will LOVE their hazelnut treats and the dark chocolate coconut brownie is a killer.
google avatar

Kristen Z.

Yelp
We went here almost every day on vacation because we wanted a quick bite for breakfast before heading to the mountains. It is super cute and inclusive and the best iced latte I had on the island! I appreciated that they followed Covid protocols. Everyone was super friendly and nice! :)

Swim S.

Yelp
Ordered a hot latte. Might have been the worst I have ever had. It's obv the beans they are using are burnt.
google avatar

G. P.

Yelp
Food options and overall quality was great. Service workers are not very friendly or polite at all. Especially the lady that runs the front counter.
google avatar

Giselle T.

Yelp
A slice of eden is truly a great brunch place! As a Vegan, I'm very pleased with their selection. Also their chai lattes are some of the best I've had. Although this place is mostly a order and takeout feel, I 10/10 would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for quick, yummy, and relatively cheep food!

Ashley R.

Yelp
We stayed in downtown Bar Harbor for 7 days and visited A Slice of Eden everyday but one. For breakfast coffee, bagels and cream cheese (favorite: salt and pepper bagels), pecan sticky rolls and pain au Chocolat. Many days we took something "to go" for a snack later in the day or on trails. Outdoor seating out front, a great staff and efficient kitchen - highly recommend.
