10 Best Places for Fado Music in Lisbon | Condé Nast Traveler

"A gritty grotto in the true tradition of fado tavernas, Tasca Do Jaime is a local favorite set far from the tourist circuit, not far from the Feira da Ladra market. The singers have been known to improvise and perform spontaneously—not necessarily the most refined expression of fado, but definitely one of the most enjoyable. There are only 24 seats, so either book in advance or show up early; after all, this a salt-of-the-earth experience matched by few other Fado clubs in town." - Todd Plummer

Popped in for a wine and beer with Fados sing by (male) owner and woman with quite a vibrato! Yes magical as most are locals, silent (many mouthing the words) until the singalong choruses. Cheap litres of good wine. Stand up by bar if only drinking so can get busy during singing. Mixed age crowd too! Looks like a lot of respect for local traditions and not a tourist ripoff at all! Two beers and a wine for €8. Vids on other phone, no pics but others’ pics say it all!

How can you not love such a traditional, genuine spot. Time seems to have stopped here. I went sunday at 4:30pm and I had a beer, a chorizo assado with some bread, and a pasteis de bacalhau. But the food is not the protagonist. The owner suddenly started to sing Fado with the sound of two highly skilled musicians, and everything became magical. The place is very small so if you are sat at any of the table you will enjoy the Fado very close to the performers. I kind of get what people said about the place in many reviews: they can be a bit insistent with food recommendations and can be not completely welcoming at first, but the place is def worth a visit if you’re just looking for a traditional experience.

Don’t miss the fado shows they put on, very unstructured, after 4 pm. From our understanding it’s both professionals and amateurs that just drop in to sing. We really enjoyed the show and the nibbles as well.

This was my first experience listening to fado and although I didn't understand the language, it was beautiful. Especially when it brings tears to your eyes. The owners were very sweet and even gave us a kiss on the cheek when she left. The food was awesome as well as the green wine and the singers were amazing. 👏👏👏👏💖💖

Beautiful tasca, super gentle, we went late to eat something and lunch time was over but the ladie offer us some bolinhos do bacalahau and a tapa with queijo and presunto. Excelente bolinhos.

I didn't have any food, but a glass of wine while listening to Fado. Something you all ought to try. 😍

The music is wonderful but it is not "free". As per other reviews you are forced to pay 15€ for a plate of ham and cheese, then you are forced to take cod cakes. The wine is listed at 2.50 a glass but we asked for 3 glasses we were served a jug, which cost 24€. The bill for 4 came, and it was 80€. I would prefer them to charge an entry fee instead of trying to take your money by stealth. Its a shame because the people who sang were amazing and I would have been happy to pay for a seat!
