Economy Candy Is Opening in the Chelsea Market | Eater NY

"I report that A Taste of Economy Candy, a Chelsea Market sibling debuting on February 7, will be the shop’s first new location in its 85-year history; the abbreviated outpost will be slightly smaller than the Rivington Street flagship and will sell a selection of the same vintage candies and classics with a rotation of new treats each month, an expansion framed as fitting given the original shop’s founding in 1937 as we approach a possible 2023 recession." - Emma Orlow

Taste of Economy Candy is a delightful little shop that offers an impressive variety of candy in a small space. I was excited to pick up some hard-to-find Japanese candies, as well as some Haribo and Squashies gummy candies. Fair price points for imported and domestic products alike. The staff member was friendly and quite knowledgeable about the products carried in the shop. Definitely worth a visit when you're at Chelsea Market!

Not sure which "rude" employees several people are complaining about here, since the employee I talked to was chill enough. The reason I took two stars off the score isn't because of service or selection of candy. In fact, they have a pretty cool and sizable selection of imported bars from various regions, and for such a small place, that is indeed pretty neat. The issue is the pricing, because even for imported stuff such as KitKats, European chocolate bars, bags of chips, etc. they're far marked up above what they should cost. I get this is Chelsea, and rent is high, but cmon, you don't need to be charging nearly $5 for a small imported KitKat. That's almost highway robbery at that point. Otherwise, if you're in Chelsea Market and can stomach inflated prices, worth checking out once or twice.

What a great little shop in the heart of it all. All my favorite candies from when I was a kid. Love swinging by this place when I'm in town!

Very rude employee. I bought some candy and was asking for a bag since it was too much to carry. The very rude employee tried to sell me a bag for one dollar. When I told hin that a dollar for a bag is in no relation he starting laughing. Let’s be honest, it’s a tourist trap at Chelsea markets, most customers are one-time only so customer service is not relevant.

The prices are good, however I bought some nerds and checked later that they were past their expiration date. Not by much but still if it’s for this candy it’s probably for others. Cmon man.

All the employees are very nice and it is a very cute little shop and I really enjoy going there with my friends. They have tons of cool old candy and tons of sports cards. Would definitely recommend coming.

The employees at Economy Candy are consistently rude and dismissive. Each time I visit I am so appalled that it puts me off from making any purchase because they act like I’m inconveniencing them for being there. I strongly advise against spending your money there, as the overall experience is highly unsatisfactory.
