"Cured salami dangling from the ceiling, endless shelves of chianti, chicken parmesan, cans of anchovies, and cannolis galore make up the experience at A Taste of Italy. It’s like you’re in a piazza in Milan, but you’re actually in a converted Kentucky Fried Chicken on College Road." - D.R.E. James

Google
This was my first time in & certainly will not be my last. The experience was great from start to finish. We placed our order and glanced around the place - tons of jarred products & goods for retail sale. Grabbed our sandwiches with some pasta salad and had a great time. The food was amazing, and the BREAD!!! Will be stopping back soon

Google
The italian beef & sausage sandwich is one of the best things I ever ate! The pasta salad has been a must order for years too.

Let's start with the things I like, it is a big sandwich and will fill you up. They piled on the meat and it was hard to get my mouth around it. The downside is that I didn't find the meat flavorful it was kinda dull and very Subway like. They do have a nice variety of chips. Unfortunately instead of fountain drinks they have bottled ones.

Google
The food was delicious. Unfortunately I went at lunchtime when it was crowded and I didn't have enough time to check the entire selection of the menu. What I did get - meatballs (sensational) and Italian "Wedge" (as they call it) which was very good. I don't think there's much of a "market" for the Italian foods in Wilmington NC so they've got that covered. It'll do.

Finally made it to A Taste of Italy and it was worth it. I had an eggplant Parmigiana sub. It was excellent. My son had a meatball sub. He loved it. Ate it so fast I was unable to get a picture. My daughter had cheese steak sub. She liked it a well. Definitely will return.

I'd never been here before today but when I'm in this area, I'll be coming in again. I was surprised at how packed it was, but the line moved quickly. The Chicken Alfredo was amazing. I recommend the blackened chicken over the grilled. The sauce was probably the best I've tasted at any Italian restaurant.

Google
I was visiting the area and wanted a deli sub. Well this place did not disappoint. I ordered a Turkey and provolone sub and it was so delicious. They had so much more to offer outside of the menu items to include wine. They have a few tables to sit and enjoy your meal but I got my order to go. The only reason I did not give full stars was because the checkout process was very busy and a bit unorganized but then this was my first time whereas other patrons who’ve been before knew what to do. There is parking available but can be tight for larger vehicles and they are off of a busy hwy. I would definitely recommend and plan to visit again in the future to try other items on the menu.

Google
Easily the best NY style Italian sandwich spot. They also make some parmigiana dishes and (in my opinion) have the best pasta and macaroni salad in town. Also, one of the only spots I know of in town that have mortadella. Amazing desserts and Italian cookies as well. I’ll sometimes go just for their wedges (Italian bread) because I can’t find anywhere else in town with that specific NY style bread that I miss and love so much.

Brendon N.

Yelp
An excellent Italian deli and market that has a little bit of everything. I am a cannoli fiend and will glad stop in anytime I am around to pick one up. Do yourself the favor and just get the large one. They have tons of classic Italian sandwiches, hot and cold, as well as pasta dishes as well. Attached to the deli is a little market with a variety of imported Italian goods such as wine, pasta and cheese. Definitely give them a visit if you are in the mood for something Italian.

Christopher R.

Yelp
Great sandwiches especially the Wedges. Friendly staff excellent food. Like a trip to Genoa. Not the easiest entrance nor exit from parking lot

Tom S.

Yelp
What a great deli! Large assortment of deli sandwiches. They offer rolls and sub sandwiches. The bread crust is nice and crunchy, just the way I like them. A standard lunch for me is either meatball parm, chicken parm or eggplant parm. I've also had their turkey sandwich, which is also good. Want to take something home? They offer many Italian foods including hot, sweet, and chicken , all of which they make. Lasagna, and many other Italian dishes and salads. Try it . You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Absolutely great small cafe/italian grocery. Food is delicious and they have prepared foods to take out, catering or you can also eat inside. The service is great, they keep the orders flowing quickly so the wait is never long. We had the sausage/beef sandwich today and it was soooooo good coated in sauce and topped with some cheese. Highly recommend this place for all.your italian cravings and supplies

Meg V.

Yelp
I've been craving a REAL sub for some time and haven't found a place that really hits the spot. This place did it. The inside smelled amazing and I knew it was going to be a winner as soon as we walked in. The girl at the counter was very sweet and patient with me while I browsed the menu before placing my order. Everything was so fresh and delicious. The amount of meat on the sub was incredible. I went with a simple turkey wedge this time but can't wait to try other options next time!

Phillip R.

Yelp
Love this place. Authentic Italian food and great carry out. Highly recommend their meatballs.

Michael A.

Yelp
Be prepared for some price increases since last month. Yesterday I ordered a salad I've been getting for months and was a little shocked to see it had gone up over 20%. Most other items are up at least 5% also.

Paige H.

Yelp
I have never had a bad experience at Taste of Italy! Great little spot with fantastic owners that obviously know what they're doing!

Monica P.

Yelp
DH brought me here today for lunch. He's eaten here before with a friend. I wasn't in the mood for a sandwich, although the menu had some nice choices. DH ordered the chicken parmesan with fresh mozzarella cheese. I decided on the Shrimp Fra Diavolo over pasta (penne). My lunch was excellent! Not overly 'fra diavolo' but just the right amount of spice for me. The sauce was so flavorful and slightly chunky with onions, garlic and seasonings. There were five large shrimp that were very tender, not overcooked. I had a couple bites of the chicken parm. The chicken was ever so lightly breaded and topped with fresh mozzarella. I would definitely order this for myself, although would split it. It was huge! It was much better than the Italian deli further north in Hampstead (too much breading on very thin pieces of chicken, plus a very soggy hero roll). There are several tables to have lunch; or you can do take-out. There's a grocery section with pastas, canned sauces, gnocchi, canned foods, and a refrigerator section with prepared pastas. I wanted to buy a couple to have at home but had some shopping to do, so we'll go back another day and pick up some meals for dinner.

Jim O.

Yelp
Fantastic authentic NY Style Italian deli, fresh stuff (mozzarella etc) and delicious entrees/cutlets...best by far I'm Wilm!

Mike H.

Yelp
I have been going there since the late '90s. What started out as having a chicken salad sandwich back then..has turned into a chicken parm and Philly cheesesteak obsession now. They have a wide variety of fresh deli sandwiches as well as some amazing Italian food. It's a small place...so dine-in is tricky sometimes..but the food never disappoints. The staff is always friendly and helpful.

Josie S.

Yelp
If you're in the mood for a tasty and filling sandwich, you can't go wrong with Taste of Italy. This local deli has a wide selection of cold sandwiches that are all freshly made to order, and I was blown away by the one I had. The sandwich was flavorful and delicious, and I was impressed by the quality of the ingredients. The bread was soft and fresh, and the fillings were generous and well-balanced. I particularly loved the cold cuts, which were sliced thin and packed with flavor. What really stood out to me about this sandwich was how filling it was. Despite being a cold sandwich, it had a hearty and satisfying quality that left me feeling full and content

Melissa G.

Yelp
It looks somewhat unappealing from the outside, but do not let that dissuade you. This place is legitimate and it is delicious! We went for lunch on an unusually cold day and it warmed me up and put me in a much better mood. The selection is pretty remarkable and I tried a dish I'd never even heard of. I don't recall the name, nor could I pronounce it, but it's pasta with mushrooms, pepperoni, and olives and it was freaking amazing!!! My husband had a wedge (sub) with lots of meats and peppers and onions and it was also delicious. They have pre-made meals, meatballs, and salads that you can pick up to cook at home - which we will be doing! The best part though was the chocolate mousse and Tiramisu that we brought home. Seriously, I didn't even think I liked Tiramisu but I loved their's! Both were phenomenal! Honestly, we are anxious to get back and eat more of their food!

Yelp
When you have Italian friends, you're always on the lookout for the best Italian food no matter where you are. Thankfully, I found this place! A Taste of Italy feels like you are among friends...a place you come to often and are always welcome. Good food, good convos, good times. My first visit was overwhelming because of all the yummy food choices and selection of Italian groceries. You can tell those who come here have been coming for years, and they keep coming back because it's that good. While standing and looking at the menu, several long time customers offered suggestions and shared why they love this place. They made me want to order the whole menu but I'll leave some for next time ;) I ended up with an Italian wedge (a favorite), a meatball dish with penne, some sliced mortadella, and an armful of various pastas and Italian goodies. The wedge was meaty and even with the generous layer of meats, the cheese stood its ground. I've never tasted the cheese so prevalently on an Italian sandwich! The paper it was wrapped in was oily perfection - always a good sign. The bread was fresh, chewy and held up to the meats, cheese, veggies and oil/vinegar perfectly. This was a very, very good sandwich. The mortadella was sliced to perfection. Good flavor. Perfect to put between some focaccia or bread of choice, or just eat it plain! The meatball and sauce.... it was good and hearty. Who wouldn't love a huge meaty meatball covered in delicious sauce with pasta?? But, even though I don't have Italian roots to claim (only lots of friends and brother in laws family!), I prefer my own sauce to theirs ;) If I could claim Italian blood, you could say that's spoken like a true Italian cook haha! Their own is always better than their neighbors ;). But I would never say no to a plate of this delicious meatball-y goodness! Great food, feels like home atmosphere...who wouldn't try this place and go back? I'm happy this is so close by and I'll definitely be back to sample more of the menu :)

Robert W.

Yelp
Chicken Franchese lunch... $12 is highway robbery though. C'mon this is disappointing...

Brett R.

Yelp
Been coming here for nearly 20 years. Always good food. The staff is always on point. A MUST SEE & EAT!!!

Kate L.

Yelp
Bring cash. They charge you more if you pay with a card. But this is the only place in town to get authentic NYC Italian goods. The breaded eggplant is solid and you can get it by the pound if you want to use it in recipes on your own. The frozen ravioli and pastas on the store side are great. Order ahead if you want sandwiches or take out because the lines can get pretty long during peak hours and holidays.

Cori B.

Yelp
This place was great. I tried the meatball sub and the antipasto salad... I'm from NY and very picky about these two things. That meatball sub was to die for, truly I've thought about it and when I'm in the area again I'll get it again. The salad was very good too, all the goodies in there. My only complaint is the setup it's kinda confusing. At least when I was there, there was ppl standing every where. There are about 8 tables and they fill up fast. Friendly staff.

Joy B.

Yelp
Consistently the best eggplant parm in Wilmington! This deli/grocery never disappoints.

Chris C.

Yelp
The food and customer service are amazing, the sandwiches were great & huge. Definitely worth the drive and the wait!

Clorinda K.

Yelp
Excellent authentic Italian food. Great service and reasonable prices. Nice selection of Italian specialty foods in the store as well.

Frank M.

Yelp
Coming from the Northeast, this place is a Godsend. Great selection of Italian delicacies. They make the best sandwiches. Lastly, their Eggplant Parmigiana for take home and heat is the bomb!

Natalie K.

Yelp
Yum Yum take me home .. I was craving for a real chicken parmigiana sandwich & darn I struck gold.. The sandwich was fantastic, then I saw the macaroni salad that my BFF from my childhood that her family would make at all the gatherings Yes Italian Yes Real Food.. I hate to admit it but I ate all that I bought LOL and walked for days to make sure I didn't gain the 10 pounds that I ate.. Desserts real deal.. They actually had the flour I use which is from Italy and is different then ours in the USA . Are wheat is considered hard meaning much more gluten. In Europe they have soft wheat which has a lower gluten content. Which is why when we go to Europe & can eat pasta & not bloat or feel bad this the reason.. So I make my own noodles.. it's not hard to make pasta or does it take a long time.. They also have pasta right off the boat.. It truly is an Italian deli.. they have everything you need or want to make or order to eat if you want authentic Italian food this is it no need to go any further or any other place. There are other places but they just don't have that family feel because family runs it. If I could give you 10 stars, I would give you 10 stars .. Thank you for take me "Back to the Future" yes a pun LOL

Michelle T.

Yelp
Great authentic Italian deli. The subs are the bomb. All the delightful Italian grocery staples and pastries make for a great reason to visit!

Denise P.

Yelp
We always buy out cold cuts from them They do a wonderful job The cold salads are very good too The staff very friendly

Dino R.

Yelp
We were in the neighborhood for a Trader Joe's Shopping trip. Just up the road is TOI - so what the heck... When you walk in, it smells like an Italian kitchen (trust an Italian). The bread for the wedge was wonderful! The bread alone, is 5 star. I had the eggplant parmigiana and my wife had meatballs - both were very good. I cannot wait until the next excursion so I can try other menu options.'' Definitely a place to try.

Chris A.

Yelp
Best Sandwich around! Great Meats, Apple Annies Bread. Piled High! Can't go wrong.....

Jenn P.

Yelp
Update the business hours on your front door and train your employees to care and provide proper business details. Called to ask if you carried two items, was told yes, then confirmed that you were open until 7:00... drove across town, arrived at 6:10 to locked doors and your staff mopping the floor. Called and spoke with the rudest individual. Doesn't matter if you offer great food or products if you are treated as an inconvenience and given wrong information. Easily can take our business elsewhere.

James H.

Yelp
The people who said this wasn't anything like NY Italian probably aren't from NY and probably think Olive Garden is Italian.....This place is really amazing and made my wife and feel like we were back in NY. You can even get a bacon egg and cheese on a roll in the morning.

Cassie C.

Yelp
After seeing so many great reviews we decided to give it a try. Being from NY we're pretty picky when it comes to Italian Delis. We've been trying to find a good one since we moved here. We both ordered the Italian combo. The sandwich was decent but nothing to write home about. I wish the bread at least had a crunch to it. Maybe I'll give it a second chance and try their hot food.

Linda D.

Yelp
Being I am from NYC, visiting here for a few days. I needed a beach sandwich. I didn't go with my normal Bronx sandwich which is mortadella, fresh mozzarella and fried eggplant. Because I honestly didn't think they'd have it, but I am pretty sure they did when I went in. So I went with a turkey club type. Turkey, provolone lettuce and tomato with bacon. It was a good sandwich nonetheless! Filled up!

Kristen H.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious subs so big that I could even finish a half of wedge! Tons on deli meat and made just the way I liked

George F.

Yelp
First time I stopped in I had high hopes but we got off on the wrong foot due to their bread naming. They offer a roll and a wedge. It was busy and I had to decide quickly. I went with Chicken Parm on a roll and was disappointed to learn that was a round, bulkie roll. Makes sense but I would have never guessed a wedge was a sub roll. Anyway, several visits later and I'm finally seeing them for who they are. Today my wife and I picked up and split a Chicken Parm and an Eggplant Parm. Both were good sized portions. I thought the Eggplant Parm was outstanding. Loaded with Eggplant Parm, just the right amount of sauce, and plenty of flavor. The chicken Parm was very good but seemed to have been in sauce for a while and some spots could have used a little pounding. We really enjoyed them. This is a great place using top quality ingredients and driven by integrity, pride, and passion. Just like the places that I grew up on in RI so long ago.

Ken M.

Yelp
Stopped by what we thought was a restaurant and boy were we surprised. Being from Boston, Sicilian and well traveled throughout Italy (we drive and stay local, not the Rome-Venice-Florence Disney Italy) this place is for real. Imported products for sale, super high quality sandwiches, pastas and cold cuts took us back. Everything was amazing and will be back. They even had the main ingredient for Pasta con Sarde! Very lucky this place is close to our new home.

Clarice W.

Yelp
Have never been disappointed here. Yesterday, I got the special- an Italian beef with sausage. It was delicious! Don't forget to check out their shop with a large selection of pasta and other Italian specialties.

armien f.

Yelp
Taste of Italy, is definitely authentic Italy food. Reminder me of NYC restaurants. Good service

Matthew Y.

Yelp
Best sandwich I've ever had in my life. The deli meats here are on another level.

William R.

Yelp
I have heard of this place since we moved. Awesome Italian Deli/Market. Had Chicken Parm and Eggplant Parm and it was like being back in Little Italy. Great market too! Great selection and top quality. Top recommendation! This will be a go to! So Happy we came!!

Alison R.

Yelp
Stopped here on my way to the beach. There's something about eating a delicious sandwich on the beach that hits the spot for me. Boy let me tell you I was not disappointed. It was full of tasty meats. The amount of items they have for sale is incredible. My foodie heart was very excited. When you walk in you get hit with the smell of delicious cheeses and Italian food. I can't wait to try the other items on the menu!

Michael D.

Yelp
Best Italian food south of Newark . Customer service is awesome and the deli is spotless . The family that owns it are very helpful and accommodating to all of your needs. Ordered trays of food for a party and the food was amazing. Highly recommend

Curt F.

Yelp
I am originally from the Philly are of PA where I grew up on good sandwiches, and this place is the closest to that! There chicken parmigiana is fantastic and their eggplant parmigiana is amazing! I won't eat eggplant parmigiana any place else because all I would do is constantly compare to TOI, and nothing compares.

Jen P.

Yelp
I'm so often floored by how people run their businesses these days. We ordered 3 subs. My father picked the order up (he didn't know what we ordered, so he couldn't check to see if it was correct). We received 2 subs. I called to ask why we didn't get the third sub. Answer: "Yea he forgot to make it. We didn't charge you though." No apologies. Just a "who gives a %#*^ shrug" on the phone. Also, if they "forgot," how did they know not to charge my father when he paid? I would have been fired for this kind of "before closing laziness" when I was young. I guess places like this are so desperate for workers that this is what they accept. This kind of thing should have consequences, but sadly I'm sure it won't.

Jeff W.

Yelp
Best deli in the Carolinas. Being from New Jersey, this is the closest thing to being at home that I have found here in Wilmington.

Pat D.

Yelp
Always good. Pulse a small assortment of speciality items, of an Italian sort, that are tough to find elsewhere. Give it try, you will Almost certainly enjoy what ever you order- Chicken Parm or an Italian sub ... it's all tasty

Maylon K.

Yelp
It was the worst red sauce I have ever had. It was very lame and was lacking in flavor. I ordered the baked ziti with a meatball and bread. The meatball was like eating paper and the ziti pasta was mushy and on the cold side with way too much ricotta cheese. Then the piece of bread that was served with the ziti was some type of sprouted grain bread and was anything but Italian. However, the best experience of my visit was the clean and pleasant surroundings.

Hffreek V.

Yelp
OMG! The best. If you are from New York and grew up with deli's that made egg sandwiches on poppy seed rolls and great hero's this is the place to go. Had a egg sausage and cheese on poppy seed roll (They didn't ask salt, pepper, ketchup like the old days lol) sandwich was great. Went back on last day of trip for Italian hero. Picked up some pasta, hot sopressatta and extra sharp provolone. Ma-DONE! Try the dry farva bean snack too.

Rose L.

Yelp
If you're looking for a classic and delicious Italian sandwich, highly recommend A Taste of Italy. What is lacking in curb appeal makes up in their selection of delicious ingredients. We ordered the Italian Combo wedge and split it between two people, it was the perfect amount of food. We took our sandwiches to go and sat outside at Wilmington Brewing Company, which made for a perfect combination.

Kristen D.

Yelp
We have medical reps that bring in Taste of Italy a few times a year. Everyone at our office is always so excited because it's so good! The chicken Alfredo with broccoli is to die for. And I don't know what is in their balsamic but I could eat it on anything.

Cassandra T.

Yelp
Fantastic food!! They had so many options and a cute little grocery store. Will definitely be back!
