I came across The Journey of the Hours while walking through Rossio (Praça Dom Pedro IV), and it immediately caught my attention. Unlike the surrounding classical buildings and traditional Portuguese pavement, this modern sculpture feels bold and slightly futuristic.
The structure combines mechanical and artistic elements, playing with the idea of time in a visual way. It stands out against the historic square, almost creating a conversation between Lisbon’s past and present. I liked that contrast — old architecture framing a contemporary piece of public art.
It’s not a place where you spend a long time, but it’s interesting to stop, look closely at the details, and think about what it represents. In a city filled with centuries-old monuments, seeing something modern and symbolic adds another layer to the experience.
For me, The Journey of the Hours was a small but memorable detail in Lisbon — a reminder that even in historic cities, time keeps moving forward.
