If you’re in the mood for a sophisticated yet friendly wine bar experience, A2 is where to be! On Friday night, they had a Gypsy jazz duo playing live music, which really added to the ambiance of our wine and charcuterie experience. The flight pours were generous and the presentation of the wine was unique to each flight. The Mediterranean board was large and served our party of four beautifully. The owner also provided an extra pour of the wine we enjoyed most from our flight, which was a nice surprise! We had so much fun at this spot, we spent a total of 4 hours just sipping and enjoying ourselves. Don’t miss this place!

Adorable new wine bar! I love the atmosphere, it is elegant and classy. It’s not loud like the dirty bars, and you can peacefully chat with your friends without having to shout. Wine here is good, but they don’t have non-alcoholic drink options right now except for sparkling water. Charcuterie board is great. The only time it is a bit louder is when they have live music on Fridays/Saturdays! The musicians are always incredible here.

We checked out this new wine bar in downtown San Mateo! I love the ambience of this place- it’s warm, woody and cozy. And I especially enjoyed the board with hot Camembert and honey. They have live music on Saturday evenings, and the atmosphere is beautiful!

A2 is the perfect addition to downtown San Mateo! They have a great wine selection, generous flights, and impeccable service. They told us they have jazz nights on Saturday evenings so we’ll definitely be back for this! Hoping that more people discover this place so they can extend their hours later into the evening :)

Great service and delicious wine. The owner, Annie, served us and she cared greatly that we enjoyed the wine, ambiance, charcuterie & the overall experience. Cannot wait to go back again! Pro Tip - It's hard to find! It's hidden to the right of Philz.

If there's anything you need to know, it's that you need to pay a visit! Wine: Balletto Estate Gewurtztraminer As recommended by Annie, we ordered a bottle of the Gewurtztraminer which was perfect for our evening. It is a dry white wine with nodes of lychee - something I would definitely try if you're just getting into wine like me. The bottle, shared by 4, was enough for two glasses each (5/5). They also have small bites that you can order, such as a charcuterie board, but I'll need to visit again to try that. Service: Went here on a Thursday night at ~9pm and was warmly greeted by Annie. Although we were a little close to closing (10pm), they still treated us with so much kindness and made sure we were comfortable. Annie kept refilling our waters/Chex mix to snack on (thank you once again!) (10000/5) Ambiance: Low-lit, warm, and a mixture of modern rustic/industrial/Japandi interior with art displayed along the walls - this place nailed the classy vibes of a wine bar. It is a little on the smaller side, but it is a great place to have a conversation/catch-up as it's so cozy in here. (5/5) That being said, I would arrive a little earlier to secure a spot if you're planning to have a larger group (most tables sit 4 as a standard). Parking: Best bet is to park in Main Street Garage as it is the closest one by A2 as well as one of the bigger parking garages in the area. Ever since DT San Mateo closed B Street off to cars, street parking has been tough! They have live music on Fridays, and sometimes Saturdays, so I will be visiting again to see that!

What a lovely place! I love the ambience here. So cozy and inviting. Was greeted by Boynton who was friendly and kind to us! He was chill and had great knowledge about the wine. Great service! We each got the white classic wine tasting flights as well as the bubbly flights. Love it! Great wines all around. I also love that we were given Asian party snacks on the side. We needed multiple refills because it was so good! They have food selections if you are also hungry and they look amazing! Would definitely come back. Again shout out to Boynton again!

An aesthetic new wine bar in downtown San Mateo. From the moment you enter, you're warmly welcomed by the two owners. I really appreciated the aesthetics, the seating arrangements, live music, and ambiance of this place. They chose a neutral decor with plants and art pieces throughout. The wine selection may be smaller than other wine bars, however everything was well curated. They gave generous pours and were very thorough on educating us on the wines we chose. I'm a club member at multiple wineries in Napa, and I was even impressed with their selection. They also have charcuterie boards made to order. Excited to try those next time we visit. Hours now are 5-10PM and I was told they are considering outdoor seating when it's warmer. They also have a private room that they plan on renting out for events!

A2 is a hidden treasure in San Mateo. Once I walked in, I felt so comfortable, cozy, and relaxed. The wine is good. It is a perfect place to chill. Annie (the owner) is so nice and friendly. They also have a live jazz performance on Saturday evening each month. It is definitely a cool place to hang out with friends. Here are some photos I want to share. Such a wonderful find with the great wine selection and fantastic Charcuterie boards to compliment each glass of wine 'Nectar'! Annie and Asia have done a great job with this space as well as featuring local artists!

I went here randomly last night for a girls night. We were walking in downtown San Mateo and found such a cute looking bar for us to hang out. They have wine and charcuterie. The wine flights are very generous, and the combinations for the charcuterie were amazing. Our favorite was definitely the goat cheese they have that comes with jam. We were able to meet Annie and she was so sweet, funny, and wonderful. She loves what she does.

This place was a pleasant surprise! We were waiting a while for our original dinner reservation and decided to get a drink here. We tried a few of their wine flights and they did not disappoint. The serving sizes for wine flights were bigger than expected and tasted delicious. Annie was very informative, friendly and made our entire experience one to remember! The charcuterie board was amazing and the goat cheese with blueberry jam was definitely the star of the show! We begged Annie for the recipe lol. The place itself was very cozy and clean. Great place for a romantic date or a night out with the girls! Thank you so much Annie!

Popped into A2, a new San Mateo wine bar that is in its soft opening. The space is nicely renovated and centrally located on B Street, next to Philz and across from Kajiken. It used to be a flooring company. We were the only ones there on a Thursday evening, so they really took care of us. Menu is still in progress -- they have a selection of wines (still in flux) and snack/charcuterie boards. Great addition downtown! Hopefully they have an official website or social media presence soon for hours, menus, etc.

Pinot Nior was to die for- Kat & Annie were such a treat. I seldom find myself at a place that has both quality spirit & service simultaneously . It was easy to get lost in the fun here. Great wine, & even better company. Cheers

My friend suggested we check out the soft opening of this wine bar, A2. We were the first to arrive in a rainy night so we got VIP treatment! There was an organic wine that I enjoyed (a bit too much). The wine bar also has a private room that can be rented for events or karaoke The owners are so nice and shared that it had taken 9 months of renovation and waiting for the city to let them open. They even brought in consultants to make sure everything from the wine to operations is on point. It's hard to run a small business these days so I'm rooting for them! #winebar #femaleowned

As a wine lover and artist. I'm very glad there's a new wine lounge they provide not just good wine but also friendly service. We opened private event there with good price. Owner also invited us to theirs local artist painting and wine tasting event. That was so great day to meet lots of new friends who also loves art and wine. I strongly recommend this vintage wine lounge! Must go place in Bay Area!

A2 Wine Bar on B Street in San Mateo is a hidden gem!! Perfect place to meet up with friends before or after an event. Great wine choices and the combination flights are excellent. You can also enjoy a nice array of charcuterie broad. I have never been to a better place with such great customer service. Annie (owner) just wants to make your visit at her wine bar a great experience. In addition they have live music on Friday or Saturday nights. Can't wait to go back!

It's the best Wine Bar in San Mateo! No question about it! The wine by the bottle is very reasonable priced. The owners are really cool and friendly!

The exterior of this lovely little wine bar belies the beauty of the artwork and clean, relaxing feel of the seating inside. There is a tasty private label rose that we tried they had a nice floral, sweetness to it, but what really knocked my socks off was their sangria. Unlike a lot of sangrias I've had in the past, it was not overly fruity or sweet, but had a very smooth, easy to drink, refreshing flavor--almost like spiked spa water. We will be back to check out the live jazz they have on Fridays.

Really enjoyed my visit here with a girlfriend. The staff are very sweet and catering to guests. Coquito is full of knowledge about the details of the different wines we tried and pairing. The ambiance is lovely and the space is very chic. Happy to see this establishment in San Mateo and will definitely be returning.

We savored a delicious champagne flight, although the red flight looked good also. Delicious nibbles and charcuterie, knowledeable and friendly beverage director, and fun Friday night live jazz combo got our weekend off to a fabulous start!

Cheerful, knowledgable, and welcoming owner. Nice charcuterie options. Looking forward to going back on a Friday to check out the live music.
