I love Winterlicious and trying out new restaurants, so when my friend chose Indian cuisine, I picked this place based on the reviews and its tier price.
Location: 3/5
A bit of a walk west from St. Andrews station on Wellington. If we hadn't bussed, then I am not all too sure where to park nearby. The exterior was not that decorated nor obvious to us until we were at the corner of the street.
Decor/Ambience: 3.5/5
We were seated right by the entrance, across from their bar, so we were closest to the unisex washroom. Usually, I would not be pleased with this seating arrangement, but this area turned out to be quite comfy and the doubled door prevented any coldness or noise from the outside to enter.
The calm, coziness of the place allowed us to have some deep conversations, so the lunch went by before we knew it..
Food quality: 3.5/5
Everything had a nice kick to it, but thankfully not too much that I could not enjoy my meal.
However, I was not too pleased that this restaurant had no substitute for their desserts, as they all had dairy and/or eggs in them. Thus, I needed my allergy pills.
I chose the dessert that had the least allergens, the fruit kulfi, which was caramel used winter berries, mango, and pineapple infused 'ice cream', but it was more of a block of fruit yogurt in my opinion. It was hard and not creamy at all; a bit disappointing. As shown from my photo, the ice cubes only filled about half of the bowl that it was served in, making it even more underwhelming...
Service: 4/5
Neither my beau nor I enjoy driving to or around downtown, so we took the TTC down. Unfortunately, the subway was closed on Line 1 between Finch and Eglinton today, which added half an hour to our commute. Luckily, the staff was very understanding and held a booth for us, since we made a reservation.
Otherwise, food came very promptly and every item per course came altogether.
Service was very prompt and straight to the point.
Value: 5/5
$23 fixe prix for a 3-course meal is very agreeable, especially since main came with both naan and jeera rice, chanaa masala, papadum, and salad!
Great portions. We were all full at the end and it did not cost us at all, even though my beau and my friend both had alcohol.
Overall: 3.5/5
Decent place for Indian if you are in the area or have plans downtown before and after; very agreeable prices. Good tasting food, too. I was surprised that this restaurant could seat 70-80 people when I asked a staff. It seemed quite small when I took a glimpse of the upper floor.
Not too memorable, but it was worth the buck.
