Absolutely incredible dining experience! The flavors were out of this world, and every dish we ordered was unique and exceptionally delicious. Each bite was a flavor explosion that left us wanting more. The creativity and quality of the food were top-notch, and the service was fantastic. We'll definitely be back to try more of their amazing offerings. Highly recommend!

Let me say that I absolutely love Indian food, North Indian especially. Well, well, well where do I start. This review is basically based on atmosphere as I did not eat anything in this restaurant. When I walked in a strong odor hit me and immediately I noticed the carpet was old, dingy and maybe not clean. OK, my food is not going to be served on the carpet and a lot of DC restaurants are very old. There was another customer ahead of me at the counter ordering and I waited my turn. I looked around to pick a table l would like to sit as we were the only two customer's. I look to the table on my right and OMG there's a big A roach right on top of the table cloth. I almost did a Matrix backing up. My turn comes and I let the young man behind the counter know I would like to dine in. I also mentioned the big A roach I had just seen. He said he would handle it. I pick a table closer to the entrance . I had one bottled beer, did not want to use their glasses. On the way to the bathroom there are these blue laundry style bags and just trashed. What I saw of the kitchen was not good. Two clear plastic containers with I don't know what inside on the counter. Yeah! I was done. The two stars is for the bathroom that was not terrible but had cobwebs with large insects in them. Paid for my beer and I was gone. The big A roach was still on the table on my way out. Yes DC has old buildings, but , I have been to many restaurants big and small and had a very pleasant experience. I just did not feel confident or comfortable enough to eat here. That's just me.

Overall I was not satisfied with my experience and will not return. The pictures of the full table show everything that was ordered. All together $80 for two. Butter chicken, extra rice, samosa, 2 naan and the chicken dish. The breads were $5+ each and the rice came out to like $10. None of the menu prices were accurate. The posted restaurant hours said they were open until 10:30pm, at 9:30 the waitress asked if we wanted dessert because they were closing. We denied and she quickly brought the bill. None of the items had prices just a total. Service was subpar, the waitress was awkward as was the environment. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. This dinner really annoyed me

I was visiting DC from New York and was getting disappointed by the food options that I found near the Capitol as they mostly lacked flavor, or were definitely not authentic but trying to appear authentic. However, Aatish on the Hill surprised me by actually serving authentic South Asian food, with the proper spices and heat levels. This is tasty food for the price and the quantity is also satisfying. The atmosphere, especially the front sign can use some work to attract more customers. There is room for improvement, because the food is already quite good, and can only be better if managed well.

I went to the restaurant around 5:30pm on. Tuesday. There was one couple in the entire place. I ordered Paneer Tikka Masala. Takeout. I tipped $3, as the young man that took my order was pleasant and efficient. I get all the way home(Navy Yard)and what did I get for $19.95? Big chunks of dry chicken in sauce and some rice. The order ticket was still attached to my bag. It said EXACTLY what I ordered. I don’t how they could get it wrong. I had a long day , and was too tired to go back to the restaurant. It’s just not worth it. I did call and they apologized and offered a full refund. For now I think I’ll keep going to the frozen food section in LIDL and get the Paneer Tikka Masala for $3.79. It’s better than what I received from the restaurant . And exactly what I wanted. I can say that the rice was good. I really hope things improve. I’ll try Aatish again in a few months.

I ordered a dish that is vegetarian at every other restaurant I’ve ever ordered from, off of the veggie section of their menu, and and confirmed it didn’t list meat as an ingredient. Food arrived and contained Chicken. Delivery was handled by the restaurant directly, so I can’t even blame a third party service. Would highly recommend that anyone with dietary restrictions or ingredient preferences never go here because what you order might not be what you get. Garlic naan was covered in sesame seeds, and tasted sour. The Somosa was good, but not good enough to make up for everything else.

My husband and I want to like this place because we love Indian food, it's near our home, and it has been around for a long time. However, it is an awkward experience every time we go. The decor is confusing (white tablecloths and stemmed glasses paired with outdated china, old chairs too low for the table, and dirty carpet), and the restaurant is eerily quiet except for conversations coming from the kitchen. The staff seems inexperienced and/or disinterested. The servers bring your food and occasionally fill your empty glasses, but they otherwise spend their time standing around in the back. This visit, the server was nice but kept asking us if we wanted drinks or desserts, and it felt like she was trying to make a big of a sale as possible on the only table in the restaurant. The food was okay. We ordered vegetable biryani, aloo gobi, dal, naan, and paratha. None of it tasted better than our home-cooked versions, unfortunately. I did like the naan, but I'm not going back just for a $5 piece of bread. With tip, the meal cost $80. There was another entree we wanted to try another time, but I don't know we'll be back any time soon. I wish the restaurant owner and staff well. I want them to succeed, but they'll need to step up their game if they want to compete with all the excellent restaurants in the neighborhood.

Google
The lamb rogan josh is so good my family's ordered it every week for 30 years. The lunch buffet is superb, especially on Thursday and Friday when they have goat and makhani chicken. The okra is fabulous also. UPDATE: Unfortunately there's no more lunch buffet :( Okra masala is really good here. They have their own fast delivery.

Yelp
Stopped in here after a few drinks in Eastern Market. It was pretty empty, with tons of to go orders being placed. We opted for a few appetizers to go since it was our first time trying Aatish. Their naan bread was really tender and the tandoori chicken was juicy, I enjoyed the samosas as well, they were pretty packed! Would like to check it out when some more customers are in store and see what's popular here.

Yelp
The food was fabulous! We had the most amazing soup and aloo paratha was divine. Well portioned so I have another meal. The place itself is meh. Bathrooms are nasty and the cook was taking a nap on the floor outside the bathroom! Yes, it was after we ate and between shifts. I recommend for take out!

Yelp
Aatish On the Hill was a delightful break for this first-time visitor to our Nation's capital. I arrived early; tired, with sore feet, and hungry. The low-key but attentive service; quick preparation time; and absolutely delicious food was a balm to my soul. While I agree with the criticisms that it was not spicy enough I am pretty sure the chef could accomodate bolder palates. I had pakoras, which were crisp and subtly-seasoned; a very tasty malai kofta which was on the mild side of the spectrum; and the mango lassi. I read reviews complaining about the lassi being watered down by the ice, but I found it refreshing and with plenty of flavor. I will be back

Yelp
Visited with the family on a recent trip to DC. We ordered samosas, Tandoori Chicken, Lamb Vindaloo, Chicken Karahi, and garlic naan. The green chutney came with pappadam, but was great on other things. Everything was delicious! The portions are filling and the servers were attentive.

Yelp
Ordered food for family event. Aatish is a staple and has been around for years. The food was hot, delicious and always quality. Butter chicken, aloo curry, Dahl, naan and goat were superb. I have previously ordered food for Eid. Love the late night and holiday hours. Service was on time and amazing. Love this restaurant!!

Yelp
This is my go to Indian takeout place. The portions are very generous and tasty compared to similar places in the area. The service is prompt and friendly. I haven't eaten inside yet, but it appears quaint and upscale and is on an active street with lots of life.

Caitlin ..

Yelp
Love Aatish - our preferred Indian takeout in DC. It's not Michelin star, but it's always reliably good, has fast delivery, and reasonable prices considering the portion size.

Yelp
A long time "go-to," this restaurant has not aged well. Always a reliable and delicious takeaway option, it now is sadly lost. The staff remains friendly and the ambience, well, you'll see, clean and bright but not appealing.

Yelp
Went into this place on a Monday evening. The decorations are a little older but we were promptly greeted by the waiter. Upon him coming over and offering my date and I food menus, he poured us water. Once he walked away, we noticed there's was something floating in both of our drinks and all of the utensils and plates were dirty as well. We sadly left moments later.

Yelp
We went to Aatish On The Hill for a Valentine's Day dinner. When we got there, the restaurant was empty, which makes sense, because they probably get most of the business from delivering food. As far as atmosphere, there was no music at all, the only noises we heard were the people in the kitchen yelling as they are preparing food, and the loan human being, who is at the bar with his computer and phone, making loud dinging noises. When we order food, it took a while for the waiter to bring us anything that we asked for, is matter fact, I had to go up, find him and ask him to bring us our drinks after we've been there about 20 minutes. We also had to ask him to bring us anything else we wanted such as to go bags the bill The tea that he forgot. As the only person on duty in front is clear that he really didn't have much training. While the food was tasty, neither dish was prepared to the spiciness level we requested. my lamb biryani didn't have much meat in it. I don't think we'll be going back, it was not a happy Valentines dinner. They didn't even try.

Yelp
I ordered food last week. Paneer dish was okay, nothing great. Mango lassi was diluted by adding ice cubes and had gone bad. Pathetic experience

Yelp
I just had the worst possible experience with this restaurant and would not recommend ANYONE to spend their money here ever. I ordered through GrubHub - remember, the restaurant chose to be on this platform. The food arrived and it was simply gross. The shrimp were mushy and flaky, almost as if they were not real. I wouldn't eat them once I saw the texture. The assortment appetizer was overly fried and no flavor. The saag was absolutely watery and bland. The naan was great. I contacted GrubHub to share this and they issued a refund. About 5 minutes later, the staff calls me from the restaurant and were yelling at me for going to GrubHub. Recognizing that's the platform I used to order, it's the platform I am supposed to use to dispute. The individual got louder and louder on the phone and had the audacity to tell me I was wrong and "how dare I refund his tip because he came out in the rain." GrubHub refunded the order as noted. I was going to let things be after GrubHub handled this, but to call me and demand a tip AND not once ask if the meal was ok or what happened... Please never support this business.

Yelp
Got this delivered, not authentic Indian food. We requested spicy but it was not spicy at all. Had no flavor. The naan we got was super soft and the butter chicken was decent. Otherwise I do not recommend.

Arjun S.

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic Indian food with the right spice level this is not the place for you. The karahi chicken was oily with no flavor, the chicken tikka masala was just alright and the goat biryani had a hair in it. The food was overall not flavorful, and it's nothing I would order if I wanted actual Indian spice and flavor. The garlic naan was the best part of the meal.

Yelp
My favorite lunch buffet! There food is great, ii order take out from them often and the staff is pretty friendly.

Yelp
A long-time staple on Capitol Hill, the delivery was just as it always has been, reliable kebab and Pakistani food. This is not a fancy-pants restaurant, but a family-owned business. They are well-know for delivery and that's what we got, on time and as expected. Under Phase II of Covid, they currently are not allowed to serve indoors. But frankly, delivery is their stock and trade. The fact that it has survived the food renaissance on the Hill is all the more reason to trust its quality.

Yelp
I've been picking up takeout from this restaurant for years. Good food, fast service, they don't try to up-sell you on stuff you don't want. It hits the spot. They also have a VERY worth-it lunch special for those weekdays on Capitol Hill.
google avatar

Yelp
I definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for authentic Indian comfort food in an unassuming mom and pop restaurant! Also: try their samosas. You won't regret it.

Yelp
I had to meet one of my good friend in dc for dinner and he took me at this place. I couldn't say no because he told me it's a really good Indian restaurant. We set their for almost 1 hour and I smell a weird smell continuously for the whole time and when I ask the server " what is this smell ?" He denied my question aggressively.they have full bar of liquor but they denied us to serve Alcohol , and when I ask why ? They said " we have our own reasons ! ( brings your own alcohol ) lol So we order chicken tikka masala and butter chicken with 3 plain naan and 2 garlic naan . You not gonna believe naan looks like they need more time to cook but took out early, chicken tikka masala #chickentikkamasala was taste less and cooked with really old chicken then I tried butter chicken and same thing with that. Sauce was tasteless and old chicken. I asked my friend how's the food so he answer butter chicken is good . Well that smell was bothering me a lot so I ask the server to bring my check and please call the chef ‍ as well ! So the chef " also the owner " came out with out mask and rudely ask me what's the matter ? I sign my check , paid full amount with extra tip ( then I find out this tip will not go to server pocket , owner will take all tips ) and then I told him about food , he look at my check and start yelling lol My stomach is still hurting since that day! I wish I could have 0 starts to this !

Yelp
Aatish has been on the Hill forever and sadly, it has been too long since we have gone. But...during this pandemic they are delivering and it is wonderful. We didn't bother with the app, we just called them up. They will ask you to sign so be prepared with gloves, however it is soooo worth it! We had the mixed appetizer, which was so delicious. They honestly make the best Butter Chicken (Chicken Makhani) in town, so creamy and delicious! Their Naan, hmmmm. Since we want our locals to be here when we can be back out in the world, order from Aatish, it is worth it.

Rebecca G.

Yelp
Best Indian food ever. The curries have so much depth and the service is always excellent friendly and fast. The meats are always fall off the bone tender. Top dishes are Malai kofta, chicken Tikka masala, chicken tandoor, lamb roganjosh. The spice levels are incredible! If you're looking for frills and trend go somewhere else. This Indian food is about the FOOD it is the real deal.

Yelp
This place gets my certified stamp of 'good food, better company.' I'm only in town for a short bit and hasn't eaten all day so I ordered like 8 dishes. And every dish was tasty and perfectly cooked. Cook times we're perfect, seasoning was well balanced and each dish had the right amolove and attention. Literally couldn't have asked for more. Standouts for me were the naan, mango lassi, daal, chickpeas, okra masala and this potato dish that really brought me joy.

Yelp
I just want to say that the charcoal grilled chicken dishes are very charcoal-y. They taste so, so good! I've been back here since my original review and while the restaurant is slow and usually empty when I'm there, I really like their food. It seems like mostly a takeout place. I'd really like to come back for the lunch specials and just haven't had the opportunity. But I nevertheless recommend the charbroiled anything from here!

Yelp
This has to be one of the worst managed restaurants i have ever been to. My family and I have traveled all over the world and i cannot at this time recall a restaurant experience which left such a bad impression on me. It was my first time being here. It was three of us. On entry the restaurant was almost completely empty at 7 pm except one other couple. It seemed like an old place, clean-ISH. The forks and spoons on the table had no shine to them at all and im doubtful they were cleaned well either. First, The three of us ordered a big kebab platter as an appetizer that had a pretty large portion. Then, seeing that the restaurant has a bar with the bottles visible from the table, we ordered a glass of wine. We were told they weren't serving liquor since 6 months. The waitress told us it was for religious reasons, which i found strange because if it was for religious reasons, why would you have a bar in the first place? We speculated that perhaps their liquor license is revoked. I am not sure about this but it was definitely fishy. When it came to ordering the entree, we wanted to order 2 entrees for the 3 of us and maybe a side dish. However, we were told and shown a tiny note on the last page of the menu that "YOU MUST ORDER ONE ENTREE PER PERSON". So if u had 3 people = 3 entrees, 7 ppl = 7 entrees! When we asked about this ridiculous policy we were told it had been like this for years and we had no choice. I was angry at this point and wanted to order just one entree just to show that customers have rights too. We argued for a little while and then settled on an entree and the big appetizer platter which was abt the same price as an entree anyway. The food was okay. Not bad but not too memorable either . But by this point, the horrible service and attitude and ridiculousness of this place's management had left such a bad taste that it wouldn't have gone, no matter how good the food would have been. We finished our meals quickly and got out of there. Thinking back, I actually feel bad for the waitress because she seemed terrified of her boss, the guy who was running the place. At times she almost seemed apologetic for asking such ridiculous things of her customers. I hope she finds a better job. Suffice it to say, I wouldn't recommend this place to even my worst enemy. STAY AWAY!

Yelp
We had a pretty good overall experience here. We needed to get dinner with our toddler and wasn't sure if we should keep walking to find a fast casual type of place or to just give in to our Indian cravings and eat here at Aatish on the Hill. I'm glad we did as it satisfied the curiosity! First off, the manager or whoever he was, with the beard and glasses, was not the friendliest. He stood at the bar most of the time seemingly watching/staring at our table. Our waitress on the other hand, was really sweet. We enjoyed talking to her about her life and where she was from. The food was very good, but I was shocked at such tiny portions of food for a really high price. We ordered the channa saag, chicken sheesh kabob, naan and a side of raita. It was all very good--chicken was moist, the channa saag was especially good, the naan was partly crispy partly soft. When the water came by and was squeezing lemon onto our sizzling chicken dish, a lot of the oil splashed into my purse which was right at his feet under the table. It wasn't a huge deal as it was tiny, but still this lack of detail would have probably bothered many others. Other than that, this place is a gem and really took us back to the old school days!

Yelp
The food from Aatish is pretty standard Indian for the DC area, but not as great as it could be for the price point. The somosas are a standout, but the tandoori chicken was noticeably dry. I have also had issues with delivery from this restaurant. Their online ordering portal through their website doesn't seem to turn off when they aren't open. This was really annoying when they decided to close during a snow storm. The portal accepted my order and charged my card, but our food never came. We repeatedly called the restaurant but unfortunately their voicemail also didn't indicate their status. We didn't know if our food was coming, it didn't, and it took over a week to get a refund.

Yelp
All the restaurants were closed on Christmas but we got lucky to find this lil gem open. The owners were very accommodating and the customer service was great. I would highly recommend the Josh Rogan platter. The lamb was very tender and the sauce was superb . ( "If you ever change your mind, let me know" - Me

Yelp
Why did I come here... Picked up a UPS package, came in to the empty restaurant.. was asked numerous times if I could leave my box outside.. No one is there mind you... No one. "Sir can you please leave the box outside". "Sorry, lady, I got a 2k drone in here, no one is here, can I just keep it with me?" She asks me to seat, my box, which otherwise would not have obstructed access to any of their other 18 empty seatings. Food, whatevs.. server seemed like she was in prison. Check my reviews, I tell it how it is, no sugar. Lucky I gave 2 stars.. IMO go elsewhere, will NOT be back.

Paula L.

Yelp
Came back to this old favorite again and was really pleased I did. Delivery was faster than the estimated time, the naan was luscious, and everything was better and more plentiful than some of the newcomers I have tried..

Yelp
A few years back in my pre Yelp former life, I found myself in Aatish more than a few times. I worked and didn't live far so I either stop by on the rare weekday I was off or hit up the lunch special on my break. Being honest with the restaurant, I found the food only average on its best days. Since then Capitol Hill Tandoori and Tandoori Nights have both closed leaving Aatish the sole spot repping the Indian subcontinent on the Hill. So if the food is average, what on earth brought me back? A lack of lunchtime options in a crowded field. With so many closures around Eastern Market and Barracks Row the area looks to be turning toward sustainable yet uninspiring chains. I didn't want Popeye's nor &pizza and I wasn't going to sit-down for a real meal District Soul Food or get a snack at Dunkins. I am not too big on CAVA so I did some walking in the sun and made my way to Aatish. When I finally made it, it was 30 minutes before the end of lunch and I was the only soul dining. Like Tim Robbins' character in Jungle Fever, I thought..."Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine!" My biggest gripe during previous visits was that I didn't care for the Tandoori Chicken which seemed to be their staple. This time I saw the Chicken Makhani a scooped that because I thought it was Butter Chicken. You may hip but I wasn't, it is! There wasn't much which doesn't matter because it was obviously late but to finally find the Butter Chicken had me assessing my previous views on Aatish. I did two turns at the buffet and turned down a third. Service was impeccable, I mean I was the only one but all in all, I left Aatish satisfied and open to a return visit. 3 Stars as a probationary measure. p.d. I might capitalize both A's in Aatish for samosa aesthetics, samosas which were all gone by the time I got there this go 'round.

Calvin D.

Yelp
Went to lunch today at 1pm. Two of the chaffing dishes were empty and never had food. No dessert on the buffet even though there was a sign for rice pudding. All of the other chaffing dishes barely had any food. The cook would replenish the butter chicken 4 pieces of chicken at a time. Not enough food for the people eating in the restaurant. Go somewhere else.
google avatar

Traci N.

Yelp
I would give the lunch buffet 4 stars, and take out 3 stars. The lunch buffet isn't run of the mill. In fact, there was no tikka masala or paneer dish to be seen. Featured were things like lamb meatballs and a non-standard daal. I'm sure the food selections rotate regularly. The only thing the buffet could improve on in my opinion is the naan. Take out, or delivery in my case, was good. Just not great. I remember being disappointed in the chicken tikka masala and loving the paneer dishes I've tried. Same thought on the naan--wish it were better. But, overall, I am a fan, and I will be back. It's convenient if you live/work in Capitol Hill, and a good option for when that Indian craving strikes.

Yelp
Great place with an amazing atmosphere and the vibes are purely cultural. It's a great experience. The ambiance is very welcoming and charming. Amazing wines, food and service. Staff are extremely knowledgeable and make great recommendations. When we think about celebrations, this is always our first option and it never disappoints. From the starter to the dessert the quality and tastes of everything was outstanding. Excellent food. Menu is extensive and seasonal to a particularly high standard. Definitely FINE DINING. It can be expensive but worth it and they do different deals on different nights so it's worth checking them out before you book. Highly recommended

Yelp
I was hoping this would be a good restaurant to do take out from. In the end, I would have rather ordered from other Indian restaurants. I ordered the chicken tikka tandoori, vegetable pakora, and gulab jamun. The chicken was dry and lacking of flavor. The pakora did have a kick to it, which wasn't bad. The gulab jamun was more firm than I expected and tasted like it has been out for a while. Save yourself the trouble and try another spot.
google avatar

Yelp
5 minutes in this place and you smell like you've been in the kitchen all day! Roughly 15 dollars a plate for these small entrees was not worth it. The chicken biryani was subpar. I won't be back at this place anytime soon..

Karen H.

Yelp
Aatish is my go-to for punjab region food on the Hill! Love the chicken korma especially and the samosas are bomb. Delivery is fast and quality is consistent. Definitely one of my favorites since I moved here in the mid '00s.

Yelp
I was really rooting for this place to be great! There aren't too many ethnic indi/paki restaurants in this neck of the woods, so that just means this place can slack off big time and unfortunately, it shows. We walked in around 1145 am on a Wednesday and 3 employees greeted us. There was not a customer in sight and only 1 other customer showed up after our work group of 5. For $10.95 for the buffet, we were greeted to some mediocre saffron rice (I doubt it was saffron, but maybe some tumeric rather), dal, okra and onions and tomatoes, some aloo with chicken pieces and huge chunks of potatoes, tandoori chicken (that was seriously underbaked in some pieces and overbaked in others), naan bread (looked overbaked as well), and a chicken tikka masala (tasty, but with bone shrapnel pieces throughout). It's sad when the best thing they offered was the okra dish. No spinach, no chickpeas, no butter chicken. It was a sad display of a buffet line. The decor was again stuck in the 80s, glass mirrors throughout with framed pictures and lots of pink and gold throughout. Granted, the place had nice china plates and white tablecloths, but other than that there wasn't much any redeeming qualities. Will I come here again? Unfortunately, it's a no.

Yelp
3.5 Stars. We rolled in last night at 9:40ish PM. They close at 10:30pm so we thought we were ok. After some back and forth with ither workers on whether we could be seated due to the lateness and the kitchen possibly being closed already we were seated. Our server was in a mad dash to take our orders. It began to get awkward at this point. LOL She ended up leaving right after. The owner took over. He was awesome. Very personable. Offered great customer service. The food was hot and fresh. Every one at the table was pleased with the food and they are offering half priced bottles of wine until they sell out. For the price of one glass we had a bottle for the table which was great! I had Tiki Chicken tikka masala (Medium). It was way more spicy than I thought it would be but it was good. The garlic naan is awesome. Make sure you get there at least 2 hrs before close. It's The Hill so street parking may be great or a pain in the butt depending on the day and time. I have lived on the Hill or Hill adjacent for 11 yrs. I can't believe I am just trying this place. Good stuff. I would give 4 stars but to be honest the service for the first 20 minutes was really awkward, rushed and slightly rude. So...3.5 stars it is.

Yelp
The times being what they are, I tend toward anything that provides a high 'comfort' factor and Indian food is in my top 3. Ordered Navrattan Biryani, Palak Paneer, Aloo Paratha, Chicken Masala, the obligatory tamarind and green chutneys, and extra extra rice because there is no such thing as too much rice. The delivery was swift. The food? hot, freshly prepared, DELICIOUS...and they even threw in a large bowl of the most delicious jalfrezi ON THE HOUSE, plus cooling raita for the tender-palated among us. The hands-down winner was the Biryani, with vegetables cooked to perfection such that they still had bite and good color. A delight! The only thing better is the fact that I have some left over and am getting more joy knowing how my rainy day lunch will surpass expectation. FIVE STARS. So happy.

Yelp
Worst Indian buffet I have ever had. Bad stale food..No taste, no salt total bland. Tastes nothing close to any Indian/Pakistani cuisine. And to top that when I mentioned that to the lady available she was just arguing and making excuses and not at all sorry for bad food taste. Oh and I almost forgot to add there was 2 hair strands in 2 dishes and when mentioned to then...again same argument. I wish I can give zero stars. Completely disappointing!

Yelp
First off, both Google and Yelp have the hours wrong; they aren't open all day but in fact are closed between 3 and 5. Not uncommon or unreasonable, but I sure wish I'd known about that before I showed up slightly earlier than 5:00 on a day when it was below freezing. Not the restaurant's fault perhaps. I'm fixing this on Yelp. Even when they did open, it was not a smooth experience. The servers were a tad hard to understand and background noise from carryout orders and other machinations was significant. The other early bird diners ordered samosas and got a perfectly pleasant looking pair, while we did and something went wrong. It took almost half an hour before they produced some of the saddest misbegotten samosas I'd ever seen, undercooked and falling apart. They did explain that they had some trouble with their fryer. If I was the sort of person who sends things back, I'd have done so. The actual entrees took even longer. The dumplings (malai kofta) I had were decidedly unimpressive; grainy and they might not have been cooked right either. The sauces for this and my dining partner's paneer dish were spicy hot, but lacking in depth of flavor. The rice was also very dry and I got a clump stuck in my throat (not really their fault). The only real positives were a competently rendered mulligatawny soup and a complimentary papadum with chutneys, which were also the only things that came out reasonably fast. I got the sense that this place didn't take their vegetarian options as seriously as most Indian places do, and there weren't that many of them nor were they labeled for vegans. They did, to their credit, try to explain and apologize for some of the negatives that were in their control, and brought us a rice pudding on the house presumably to apologize for the waiting and an off night in the kitchen, without any particularly overt complaining on our part. Customer service is worth something, and since they made the effort I gave them a three star rating instead of the lower rating our night up to that point might have merited. I could see giving them a shot to do better if I found myself in the area again, but that's as far as I'll go.

Yelp
I've been here numerous times and am still somewhat baffled. Walked in on a Saturday night, around 7:30pm, for dinner and the place was literally empty, begging for customers. Wazzup with that? While the service and reasonably-priced food is always tasty, this long-time Hill eatery needs a modest cosmetic makeover. Soon!

Yelp
I've been ordering delivery from here on a monthly basis for a couple of years now. I loved the food when I lived in SW and still do now that I'm living in SE. I can't speak to the majority of the menu, and I can't say I like their vegetarian dishes much (there's not a ton of flavor), but the staples, namely chicken masala and chicken tikka masala, are awesome. Delivery is always prompt and courteous. The food isn't super cheap, but I find the portion size to be quite good - I usually get at least two meals out of one entree, so the price doesn't bother me. As a disclaimer - I always get medium or hot spice, with "hot" being very spicy.

Yelp
I've worked on the Hill for about 2 years now, and for the longest time I would walk by this place and wonder why it was always so empty. From the experiences below, I can see why. However, when a coworker suggested the Aatish buffet for lunch one day, I decided why the heck not. I wasn't disappointed. For starters, I am very picky about my indian food. I grew up in the San Francisco bay area and have tons of indian friends whose moms cook the most unbelievable homemade indian food ever. Aatish's weekday lunch buffet--which with tax/tip comes out to around $11 is a darn good value. My friend adores their Okra, but I tend to stick to their lentils and the Chicken Makhni (one of my coworkers refers to it as butter chicken) with heaps of rice. Their ground lamb dish is pretty good too. However, the thing to write home about is their spongey, tasty, naan. I'm used to my naan being crisp but I have taken a liking to Aatish's particular brand of bread. I don't know if I'd pay $20+ for a dinner, but as far as lunch on the Hill goes, I am a fan.

Yelp
The food here was bad. It lacked salt, and the flavors were unbalanced. I would not recommend eating here. Also, it's overpriced.

Yelp
Really great delivery, especially during Covid. The food always arrives earlier than expected and is handled with care by their own staff. Great spices and good flavors. We sometimes get free bonus dishes from ordering so frequently. We love Aatish on the hill!

Yelp
Ordered for delivery. Tandori Salmon was not cooked properly, raw in places. I prefer fish to not be raw. Saag paneer was not good either. Garlic Naan was good. When I called, the merchant asked that I bring the poorly cooked salmon back to them tomorrow for a replacement. No thank you. Not ordering here again. Beware uber eats will not help at all if you order from their platform. Not even with photos of the food added.

Yelp
I ordered lunch for delivery. Had the lamb biriyani which was pretty good. I did not know it came with peas and I am not a big PRAS person. So I know to ask for it without next time. Also had the tea masala which was also good. You can tell the difference in flavors with the Pakistani influence. Reasonable prices for lunch.

Yelp
Ordered way too much food for delivery for just two people. But BFF and I wanted to try a number of things. We ordered samosas, pakoras, onion naan, chicken tandoori, and the lamb kebobs. We figured what we could not finish for dinner, we could each have some lunch the next day. The server taking my order was friendly, polite and thorough. Delivery arrived faster than thought, which was great! BFF and I were more than happy to start digging in sooner. I started with the apps first, while BFF when straight for the chicken. I especially liked the samosas. The onion naan had really good flavor as well. The chicken and lamb were nicely cooked and flavorful as well. By the time I got the entrees, I was getting rather full. There seems to be a lot more on the menu to enjoy. So I look forward to my visit.
